foreign business deals did boom after then-vice president joe biden attended key dinners. we've got breaking developments on the biden family corruption scandals. oversight chair james comer joins us tonight the on all of this and also talking to us about a potential biden impeachment inquiry. and house judiciary investigates why special counsel jack smith's top official repeatedly met at the biden white house before former president trump was indicted. more in the media and democrats too are calling this a, quote, pile-on. and a new poll, most gop voters say, yes, trump can beat biden. plus, evidence grows the u.s. is heading towards recession. steve forbes calls it a state of, quote, walking pneumonia under biden. and we also have actor kevin sorbo on the serious problems of biological males competing in women's school sports. i'm elizabeth macdonald, "the evening edit" starts right now. ♪

♪ elizabeth: okay, let's get right at it with house oversight chair james comer. congressman, thank you so much for joining us. a lot of coverage, obvious, of hurricane idalia, a terrible storm, category one hurricane landed as a cat three, widespread damage, at least two dead. let's get to this news out of your committee. oversight is investigating the white house response to the deadly wildfires in maui. why? >> well, anything pertaining to the tax dollars we want to investigate. we hear and we've seen where anytime after any type of destruction you have a lot of shysters that roll in. we know that the biden administration was slow to to the scene in hawaii, and the lower the government takes to get there, we've pound the more

corruption exists -- we've found the more corruption exists. we want the tax dollars to go to the people who need it the most, and i don't believe the people in hawaii feel like the government has got their back thus far in this crisis. we just want to probe and make sure tax dollars are spent where they're supposed to be spent. elizabeth: chair comer, will -- let's move on to this -- will house are republicans launch an inimpeachment inquiry into president biden after labor day? >> i feel pretty confident we will. i had a long conversation with speaker mccarthy yesterday. you look at what we found just in the last 10 days with respect to not only the president hiding pseudonyms in 54000 e-mails, but also copying his son in some of them pertaining to ukraine. that ties joe biden to hunter biden, to firing the prosecutor for no good reason in ukraine, only to save hunter from being investigated for corruption this ukraine. we also have learned that hunter biden flew with his father on

air force two 15 times at least. this hasn't been something that joe biden has admitted to in the past. he's only said a few times did his son fly on air force two. so the the evidence continues to pile in, and one reason that that we've waited thus, this long on impeachment inquiry is to make sure we had as much evidence as possible. getting this evidence is like pulling teeth. no one in the biden administration is cooperating with us, the government is obstructing, but yet we're still able to to find more evidence. and i think everyone in the republican conference sees now that we have no choice but to move towards impeachment inquiry. elizabeth: you and congressman byron donalds are demanding the national archives release biden's travel records on air force two and marine two when he was vice president. why do you want those records? >> because the president hasn't been truthful about anything pertaining to his son. he said his son never got any money from china that. we learned that was blatantly

false. he said he never spoke to any of the crooks who were wiring money to the president's son. we found that he spoke to all of it. now we found that he was traveling with the president, then-vice president, to these countries to try to help these people who are sending money. i don't think anyone this america believes that these foreign nationals were just sending the bidens money to their shell companies out of thed goodness of their heart. these were all people who were being investigated for corruption in their countries whether it be romania, ukraine, russia. all of these people that were sending the bidens had one thing in common, they were in trouble. they were bad people in trouble in bad countries. they were paying hunter biden to help, to receive help from joe biden through the administration to help them get out of trouble. and what we've seen in ukraine, what we've learned in the last 10 days is that actually happened. joe biden actually delivered on manager. he delivered on firing the

prosecutor -- on something. he delivered on firing the prosecutor, and creating this narrative that viktor shokin was corrupt. why no one ever questioned that back when joe biden flew to ukraine to withhold the foreign aid for, in return for firing shokin, i don't know, but we now know that the obama secretary of state's office sent shokin a letter praising him for his reform efforts. so there was never any evidence that shokin was corrupt. elizabeth: yeah. >> this is all new information we've found in the last 2 or 3 weeks. elizabeth: we've got "the washington examiner" reporting that hunter biden's business boomed after vice president biden sat down at key dinners with hunter's business partners from ukraine, kazahkstan and russia a starting in 2014. is the national archives, are hay going to release the 5400 e-mails and records where then-vice president biden used fake e-mail accounts and aliases? they already had at least the 20 shell companies that you found

to take in cash overseas, so why the fake i maul -- e-mail accounts? >> yeah. how ironic is this, that the guy who created 20 fake companies to receive pun from foreign nationals that would then be laiderred to their family members also have at least 3 fake names, 3 pseudonyms that he used in receiving official government e-mails. and the most concerning thing is we found that hunter was copied on them which ties joe to hunter and to the shady business dealings. that's why we want to know how many times they flew on air force two, so we can figure out who all they met with while they were in these -- elizabeth: so -- >> but at the end of the day because the e-mails happened during the obama administration, president obama has to to give us permission. he has to grant the national archives permission to let us have those e-mails. he has 30 days to review those e-mails and decide. so in one week, we've got three more weeks waiting on whether or not obama will grant us us

permission. that's where we are with respect to those 5400 e-mails and the pseudonyms. elizabeth: it could be argued biden waived his privacy rights when he basically broke the rules on keeping public business,you find that, out of private e-mails including fake e-mails that he set up. let's watch msnbc and why they think house republicans, why msnbc thinks the reason house republicans want to do an impeachment inquiry of president biden. watch this. >> so kevin mccarthy is saying he's getting his ducks in a row for impeachment. it's ridiculous, they're going to impeach biden for being old -- >> for existing. >> -- and being named biden. elizabeth: because he's old and for existing? what do you think, congressman? >> i can't say on tv what i think about joy reid, but let me say this: they impeached joe biden the first time for calling zelenskyy asking if he knew about -- elizabeth: you mean trump. >> yeah, they impeached trump.

yeah, they impeached trump for simply calling zelenskyy asking if he knew about corruption with biden. now, what we found is there was corruption with biden. and what the democrats claim they impeached biden over was a quid pro quo. the quid pro quo many ukraine was joe biden. it wasn't donald trump. joy reid should feel like a fool. rachel maddow should feel like a fool. everyone on msnbc that continues to defend the indefensible should feel like fools. that's why joe biden's tanking in the polls. not because he's old and decrepit and a weak leader, he's tanking in the polls because he's corrupt9. every american knows it's not normal to have 20 shell companies. every american knows it's not normal for your granddaughter to receive wires from foreign nationals, and everyone knows it's not normal to lie about meeting with all these people who sent your family all this money. joe biden lies every day about his involvement and his knowledge in his family's

crooked business dealings, and the day has come for the press to step up and accept responsibility that they got the story wrong and joe biden does deserve to go through an impeachment inquiry to find out 100% of all the crimes that were committed by his family. elizabeth: we have to move on to this, house judiciary led by chair jim jordan sent a letter to a.g. garland asking why did special counsel -- also it looks like you are on this letter and ways and means chair smith, why did, you know, special counsel jack smith's top aide, jay bratt, meet repeatedly with the biden white house before indictments were handed down and deliver and pushed through by jack smithsome so what's going on there? final word. >> we don't know. there should be no reason for that special counsel's office to meet with the white house. the only thing that that we can think of is they're coordinating. we believe that the white house

elizabeth: well, look who's back with us, economist e.j. antoni with the heritage foundation and nancy tengler. it's great to have you both on. nancy, steve forbes says the u.s. economy's in a state of walking pneumonia. are we in a recession? because both gdp and that adp jobs growth came in much less than expected, 177,000 jobs for august, gdp flatlining at 2.1%. are we in a recession? >> well, i think we're slowing, for sure, liz, and we may be on our way. we do know that the jolts number came in which is hutch more reliable number, that's the job opening number, came many in at 8.8 million versus 99.5 million.

so -- 9.5 million. so moving in the direction of a softening job market. we've also seen salaries for new hires roll over somewhat. and i think even though gdp was revised down, we've got that gdp now number for the third quarter that's coming in pretty robustly. but i'll say this, the pro-cyclical fiscal spending that the government has been engaging in, the average american might call that profligate spending, it has been a tailwind to the economy, and it's now starting to slow down. and i think that may happen in tandem with monetary policy which has been very restrictive really kicking in. and i think steve may, in fact, be right. instead of jutte getting a slowdown, we'll end up in a recession. elizabeth: whoa. that's not good for bidenomics, what nancy just said, e.j.. i just want to detail it for the viewer. corporate profits dropped an annualized 6.5% in the second quarter. that's an acceleration to the

downside. first quarter was a 1.8% drop. this is the worst drop since the pandemic, e.j., and all these initial government reports keep getting revised to the downside practically every month since january. it's jobs, new home sales, housing starts, industrial production revised to the downside. what do you think, e.j.? >> liz, i can't remember the last time we had the jobs report month after month so consistently revised downward. this may be a record. so what we're seeing, and take today's gdp report as a perfect example. we are seeing the private economy shrinking and the public economy, in other words government, growing. consumption was essentially flat in terms of the revisions. meanwhile, investment was revised down. but what's growing? government. government is actually growing even faster than initially estimated. elizabeth: you know, to what e.j. said, they keep thinking they're going to reinvent the wheel,ing nancy, in government. biden's been in there since the

nixon era, right? why does he always think top-down government manipulation and market controls are the way to go? and you know, nancy, cnn and msnbc, they're now citing biden's age as a worry for voters in 2024. watch. >> but i'm talking about his age and his stamina and his ability to do the job, and you're talking about the record. and i understand why you'd rather talk about the record, but i'm talking about what americans see when they turn on the tv and and they see, you know, joe biden's been in politics literally since before you were born, and like that he's -- >> okay. all right, well -- >> he's aged. as we all do. >> let's talk about this. and you all talked about this. back when we were marking the one-year anniversary, right, of the war in ukraine, the unprovoked war by russia, what did the president do? he went to kyiv, and he was there with the alarming blaring in the back, and people were so impressed that he was able to be will there and look strong and

represent, represent the american people in kyiv in a war zone country. and that's what you saw. >> it's not that he's not able to walk, i'm just saying -- >> no, but you're talking about his strength, how he's looking right now -- >> i think the average american male only lives to be 77 or something. >> president biden, showing his age is a significant concern for voters ahead of the 2024 election including among democrats. elizabeth: what do you think, nancy? [laughter] >> well, i'd say that biden's been in office almost since before i was born, and that's actually saying something. i think that a failed policies that we keep getting pushed in front of us from this administration is, are not from biden. we have a lot of members of congress who should probably hang it up. i mean, you've got dye a january feinstein who's 900, steny foyer who's 84, nancy pelosi, 83, i think it's -- and mitch mcconnell who's in his 80s. i think it's time for a new

generation and really a redressing of policies that we know have worked. these failed policies have been rewarmed up over and over again -- elizabeth: yeah. >> -- and president biden, unfortunately, has been on the wrong side of almost every major policy decision since he entered congress in 1972. elizabeth: yeah. so what nancy just said, what do you think, e.j.? because trump is leading with gop primary rotors in swing -- voters and swing states, and democrats' new answer to inflation that's compounded nearly about 16.9% under biden, it was about half that under trump the, they're now touring the u.s. talking about jon fees. what do you think? final word. >> oh, goodness, what are americans losing more of their money to, junk fees or inflation? hands down,s it's inflation. in fact, to put this in perspective, liz, for the audience, the average a american worker last month actually paid more on his hourly wages in the hidden tax of inflation than he did in federal income taxes.

elizabeth: okay, the biden white house was asked about this very important issue for parents and their children as their children head back to school. it's about biological males competing many women's school -- in women's school sports. hillary vaughn is at the white house with the story. hillary. >> reporter: good evening, liz. well, republican presidential candidate and former governor nikki haley calls in the women's issue of our time, whether or not biological males should be allowed to compete in women's sports. the white house, though, is caught mt. middle, it seems -- in the middle, it seems, between protecting women's rights and standing up for transgender athletes. does the the president agree this is a women's rights issue? >> so we've talked about this many times, this is the title ix specifically. look, and, again, we've talked about this multiple times, it's

a complicated issue, and there are a wide range of views on this. >> reporter: -- does he care that girls are allowed to the to compete in sports -- >> i just, i -- >> reporter: does he think it's fair for girls to have to compete against biological males in. >> i just answered the question, it is a complicated issue. it is truly a complicated issue with a wide range of views, a wide range of views. there is no yes or no answer to to this, it is complicated. >> reporter: for many american, it's not complicated. they've made up their mind. nearly 70% of americans say transgender athletes should only be allowed to compete if on sports teams that match their birth gender. nikki haley reacting to the white house sidestepping my question on fox yesterday. >> the biden administration is wrong to say this is a complicated issue. it is the not complicated, and we're not going to have to make our daughters get used to the fact that biological boys are in that their locker rooms. it's actually pretty simple. bio biological boys play in boys' sports.

stands on women's rights in sports. and, you know, they say you as women putting in your time, your blood, your sweat, your tears, or all your energy and effort to be the best you can possibly be in your respective sport doesn't matter to to us. and here's the deal with other women in the sports, why women like professional women in the wnba, whatever it may be, women's hockey, why are they not standing up and having a big ier voice on this? it is -- bigger voice on this? this is absolutely crazy, what we're doing. and, parents, take your kid out of that sport. find another pool. have your own race outside of the school system because it's crazy what they're doing right now. and putting these women and really vulnerable spots. because a lot of women are getting hurt out there. there was just something in, like, ultimate fighting or something, the woman just got knocked senseless by this obvious man that says he's a woman. they've got to stop doing this, guys. it's crazy that we're doing this. elizabeth: kevin, you know, peyton mcnabb, high school athlete, serious injured, a

serious head injury. she says she condition play again. we're increasingly getting reports many to our studio about women athletes getting injured and hurt -- >> sure. elizabeth: -- by biological males. there's also the issue of indecent exposure in the locker rooms that you don't want your school children having to endure that. you say let boys be boys, let girls be girls and let's stop, quote, chopping down men. what do you mean? >> well, i've got a book that just came out. to me, it's like let boys be boys, let girls be girls, let 'em grow up and decide what they want to be when they're adults. let them grow up and have a life. i mean, what i like -- look, you see pride flags out there, you see transgender flags, you see black lives, you see all these flags out there, but we're kind of forgetting what the american flag is all about and the constitution, what our founding fathers set up. what we're doing right now makes no sense, and i think it's higher than 70, i really do. i think the vast, majority of people many in this country are

too afraid to come out and talk about the it because they're going to get canceled, people are going to attack you for being this, being that that, transphobic, homophobic, whatever it may be. they love their labels, but they never have anything to back it up other than their anger and hate. elizabeth: what do you make of the california state attorney general suing a school district in chino valley outside of los angeles because the school district does want to notify parents if their child is talking about changing their gender identity at school? you've got california attorney general rob banta basically saying this school's policy would endanger students by outing them to their own parents. what do you think, kevin? >> well, i love what the president's doing. congratulations to her for standing up for the parents in the district. you know, i commend her for taking a stance like this, because she's taking, you know, because our kids should be learning about math and science, arithmetic, playing sports. that's what i had when i was in

school. there was nobody telling me about, you know, gender ideology or how to vote or not to believe in god or believe in god. teachers back when i was there -- [laughter] taught the subject they were paid to teach, and this should be inspiring, certainly, to christian conservatives, that somebody like her -- who's risking her job, her reputation, she's standing up saying, you know what? the majority of parents want this for their children, and we are going to stand by the parents. elizabeth: got it. kevin sorbo, thanks for joining us. >> my pleasure, anytime. elizabeth: more polls coming many, most, the majority of gop voters say, yes, trump can beat biden. we're going to break it down. and is we have a missouri times op-ed now -- new york times op-ed now says the trump indictments are a, quote, pile-on. democrat ro khanna says there is concern over the timing of the trump trials with the campaign next year, saying the election should be a, quote, fair fight. also top democrats now criticize the white house over the biden border crisis effectively saying

the federal government, the federal government must fix it. but biden white house criticize ises new york saying you're botching the handling of biden's own border crisis. 100,000 illegal immigrants pouring in to the big apple. lydia a hu has been breaking stories on this, she's all over it, she's got the story live now with us. >> reporter: hey, liz. lots of finger-pointing on the democratic party side, and now governor hochul is headed to washington, d.c. to meet with white house chief of staff. that meeting, we understood, was scheduled to the start late this afternoon, and we are sand thing by for any updates -- standing by for updates coming out of it. she cranked up the heat with demands for money and expedited work authorizations for migrants in new york. new york city has taken on more than 100,000 asylum seekers since last spring. the city has already spent over $1.7 billion through the end of july and forecasts spending as much as $12ing billion over the

elizabeth: well,ing look who's back with us, gop strategist ford o'connell. we've got reports that former president trump may pick vivek ramaswamy as his running mate. what do you think? >> well, i think it's a long way until that occurs but definitely, look, if president trump, when he becomes the the nominee, if he becomes the nominee, he's going to look for someone who can honestly be a super press secretary, who can push back on the mainstream media narratives and not let them fester, and i think that's what he's looking at more than anything else in a vice presidential nominee. elizabeth: also the former

president posted on truth social about how routinely and frequently top democrats challenge election results. he talked about joe biden, kamala harris, hillary clinton, nancy pelosi, barack obama, claiming that they challenged the 2000, 2004 and 2016 presidential elections as stolen. what do you think of that? >> well, it's time that americans mow the truth about the democrats and their deceitful ways. look, since -- in the 21st century the democrats have challenged every single republican victory, 2000, 2004, 2016. they claim that those elections were stolen, they tried to block certification, and not one of those democrats has been indicted, unlike president trump. elizabeth: so we also have this story, a new york times op-ed e now says these trump indictments are a pile-on and, ford, we also have democrat ro khanna, he says there is concern over the times of the trump trials next year. he's saying that the election should be a, quote, fair fight.

what do you think? >> i'd like to think that a ro khanna's saying this out of the goodness of his heart, but i think in all honesty he's saying the quiet part out loud. he realizes that this is going to boll sister president trump, and if president trump -- bolster president trump, and if president trump comes back into office, democrats are going to wish that they didn't do this. remember, we are talking about 91 charges and 700 years in jail. and nowhere in those 91 charges is insurrection, rebellion or incite. elizabeth: so how does he do this and run for the white house? i mean, we're talking at least 12 million documents that the trump team has to look at to properly prepare for, you know, for trial. is this a due prostitutional problem here? >> absolutely, it is. it's election interference. and not only is it election interference, liz, but it's also the fact that you're having all these -- you're daisy chaining these cases. there is no way that anyone -- an average client would get two years if they were actually

going through this, and instead you're going to put these four or five cases on president trump all during the election? it's making him out to be a very sympathetic character with the american public. the more they learn about exactly how the democrats are abusing the legal system. elizabeth: you know what's really interesting, trump is closing in well above 50%, even 60% of support among likely republican primary voters. we're talking swing states like georgia. also looking at polling out of south carolina, new hampshire. and, you know, let's stay in new hampshire because we've got the new hampshire attorney general's office is looking into whether to stop former president trump from being on the 2024 ballot in that a state. talking about section 3 of the 4th amendment. 14th amendment, anyone who's engaged in insurrection or rebellion. now that we've got new hampshire in on the action, your word on this, ford. >> this 14th amendment argument is dangerous and a never trump fantasy. even jonathan turley has said that this is the most dangerous
