diesel prices higher. right into the is this with chuck devore and senior analyst phil flynn. good to see you. the price of regular is up $0.07 in august, the price of diesel was up $0.42 in august. diesel expects the price of everything. wise diesel up so much? >> combination of factors. the main reason is lack of heavy oil to refine diesel at the highest level. sanctions in russia and in venezuela, lack of that oil plus the demand for diesel globally is stronger than people fought for. when we disrupted russian supplies, provider of heavy diesel to europe.

then you have 15% more average for this time of year. dave: when we were energy independent it was a wonderful moment in our history. we didn't have to rely on the saudis and russians to set oil prices. now we are at their mercy or is that going too far? >> it is a bit complex. that is one thing. the biden administration promised they would go to war against american domestic energy before the election and they did. we've seen some of the policies these green energy policies that punish the reliable and affordable natural gas. other things we are seeing are the consequences of president biden's foreign policies, buttering up to the terrorist state of iran while distancing himself from saudi arabia. we don't have a friend in riyadh like we used to because of president biden's policies.

biden inflation, pumped trillions into the economy without boosting productivity and you will have more expensive. dave: then we have venezuela. maduro is our friend? does the biden administered in -- they have heavier oil. it is dirtier oil. that is the heavier oil, better with diesel but couldn't we get that ourselves in the united states? >> we should. one way to get more is if we didn't kill the keystone pipeline. there's a lot of heavy oil that comes out of canada that normally would be moving through that pipeline keeping prices down but going back to chuck's point he is right. when you talk about biden's foreign policy with saudi arabia, that production cut was a slap to the biden administration. they are raising prices to us

consumers. today directly to us prices of saudi oil that will hit everybody at home. dave: i want to bring it back home to our production at home. mckinsey and company had a great report a year ago saying health oil, oil in the gulf could produce an extra 1 to 2 million barrels a day if we wanted to. it is a cleaner burning fuel that comes from any other oil base and around the world and the biden administration is cutting back. couldn't that be something democrats and republicans could agree on? >> you would think. not only that but texas and oklahoma and north dakota. you may recall when president biden turned our strategic petroleum reserve into the strategic political reserve and withdrew a million barrels a day last year while he was combating the high prices, that

acted to dis-incentivize domestic production. we drained it to the lowest level that has been since 1983 while suppressing domestic energy production in the process. dave: we are refilling it now when prices are higher than they were. doesn't make a lot of sense. thank you for clarifying a lot of it for us. all eyes are on gop senator mitch mcconnell. the senator will hold his first news conference in two hours since freezing up twice at prior events. chad pogrom is on capitol hill with that and more. >> reporter: mitch mcconnell froze up the last time senate leaders met the press corps in late july, the first chance reporters will get to ask about his health since then. most gop senators stand behind mcconnell. >> i trust the doctor's

railing against the agent health of president biden. some see inconsistencies with defending mcconnell. >> don't think you can have it both ways. if you are concerned about the president's ability to do his job, and i am and a lot of republicans are, you've got to be concerned with somebody from your own party. can't be sauce for the goose but not for the gander. >> is he able to do the job? do i think he should be leader? no. >> reporter: mcconnell only referenced his health problems in passing yesterday. we will see if he fields questions about his health later today. this comes as the senate faces a hectic schedule to avoid a government shutdown in october. dave: good to see you. senate republican whip john thune says mcconnell has his support to continue as leader. something echoed by other gop senators. let's ask foreign service member mark wayne mullen what he thinks, great to see you. thank you for being here.

it is a very busy time in our history and our economy. a lot going on. do you have confidence mcconnell conserve in that role as republican leader in the senate? >> i do. i had multiple conversations with him. sometimes we agree, sometimes we don't. 's competency level has been higher speaking on the floor, speaking on conferences he will be speaking to the party in just about an hour. we scheduled lunch together and every time i've spoken with him he has been clear and very precise on what he is talking about. i think there are other health issues, neurology, it is funny the media is focusing on mitch mcconnell, we have a president who gets lost when he is at a podium and you've got to have a conversation about both but when you have a clean bill of

health there is senator mcconnell. dave: we are covering all sides of the issue of the competency of our representatives but i understand what rand paul is doing, what was causing those freeze ups, it wasn't a stroke. didn't explain what it was. >> i encourage -- he talked about having polio. i'm not a doctor, don't pretend to be. a lot of people who had polio, the ones looking to survive, the polio came back, all types of pain. just looking at him, someone who has dealt with a lot of pain, sometimes hinting and looks to me it is hinting and

he's holding on, holding on to get through it. i talked to him afterwords, he was perfectly okay, we were in communication on the phone. he was fine and the polio affecting his nerves, just speculating, i give him the benefit of the doubt. i'm not here to defend mitch mcconnell. i'm just being truthful. dave: let's move on to the issue you are dealing with, the possibility of another government shutdown or partial government shutdown. we've seen it before. it is coming up quickly. the time is passing fast and the chances of partial government shutdown are good. what do you think? >> hope not. we can avoid it. most of us, this is time to shut down being so aggressive.

we need to be invested in the military, we got to be responsible got to cut spending, we are doing that. i think the house is trying to do the best they can for america at the same time. republicans only control the house. we don't have control of the senate. whatever mccarthy passes, the house has to get through. chuck schumer has to sign it. all of us are working to avoid that shut down and it is a process of what can we do? you and i can both agree we are looking at short-term cr. dave: continuing resolution which solve the problem in the short-term. i want to ask about spending on ukraine. there's another billion dollars. i understand arguments in favor of funding ukraine but i am wondering is there any limit to

that checkbook? >> there has to be. we have to get responsible for spending. at the same time you are aware of january of 94 when we agreed to help protect ukraine. if ukraine would give up their nuclear weapons. you and i can sit here and agree and would not have invaded ukraine if ukraine still had nuclear weapons. in that treaty, that agreement, we said if an invading force were to attack ukraine or invade, we would be there to defend. you and i and everybody else are only as good as our word and we did agree to that. at the same time, we've got to be responsible for the dollars we are sending to them and something the biden administration did not do is talk to us about the money they want to send and how it will be spent. i get that they can't go public because it is more but i sit on the senate armed services and they come in and brief us and in tell us how the money will

be spent so we can be accountable. dave: very quickly i want to talk about china banning the iphone use for the government phone which might amount to hundreds of millions of phones. they are cutting their reliance on our tech products while stealing blueprints for those products. what do you make of that? >> what a communist regime does, they control every aspect of us, the communist country of china and the people who live inside. it is about more control, controlling their technology, every country, every business does business in china understand you will lose your intellectual property. they don't create anything on their own. they take it and dissected our intellectual property and we have known this for years, we have to hold them accountable. dave: i want to ask about oil.

jeffries in the house. the point that kristin sinema has brought up. dave: local leaders pushing back on a proposal to shelter asylum-seekers at the atlantic city airport in new jersey. republican mayor laura fromberg joins us. i want to be clear, it is egg county in which the airport is located, right? >> the town in the country. dave: how many migrants does the department of homeland secret he want to send to the airport? >> they gave no information and potentially 60,000 migrants. dave: 60,000. they haven't mentioned how long they would be in the airport. >> they mentioned nothing. this came out on a new story and we took it from there. dave: have you called the department of homeland security

to find out what is going on? >> i have not but members of our organization have. nobody has answers for us. dave: do they put you on hold? they must respond in some way. >> we are a town of 50,000 people and they want to bring 60,000 people in here. makes no sense whatsoever. dave: i am sure they would say in any public declaration that the federal government would take care of it. there have got to be expenses that spillover into the township, right? >> we have to educate everybody who comes to the town. the cost of educating students $20,000 in this town. we are the whole town and airport. between that, security, police, infrastructure, this whole area would be overwhelmed. dave: what part of the airport

to they want to use? an old hanger or series of hangers or what? >> there is an active airport and back areas of the airport itself is under control of the state of new jersey but there is a lot of federal land because we have an airbase and technical center. the bottom of sending them to an area that's classified is mind blowing. dave: you mention a word the temp important word that's overlooked in these conversations, unvented. we know now from our experience in new york city, from other cities the lot of the people being forced to house and feed et cetera have not been vetted. some turn out to be criminals. a case in new york city where of venezuela was arrested six times for violent crimes, released, that's part of new york's problem but a lot of these migrants have not been

vetted and might have criminal backgrounds. that's the fear of many of your constituents. >> the fear of a lot of people in this area because we don't know if anything is coming but we don't know who they are, what they are. not having a policy on the border leads to this. there is so much fear and uncertainty in these times. our job is to protect our citizens. dave: some folks are blaming texas governor abbott because we know he sent buses of migrants to new york and into the northeast in general but in total the total number of migrants abbott has sent to new york is 7,900, a fraction of the 60,000 or more, new york says it has 100,000 migrants. clearly this, the vast majority of these migrants are being sent by the dhs, right? >> correct, that is what i understand.

dave: we got to run but it is just extraordinary nobody at dhs is contacting you and they are not responding to your questions. what are your options in terms of getting answers from the department of homeland security? >> our options are making a lot of noise. jeff van drew has been doing that on our behalf. communication works. they want to affect the individual citizens, they need to let us know what the plan is and they don't follow their own plan. they don't follow the rules on the border. a big thing to start. dave: it is an acceptable for them not to contact you or respond to your attempts to contact them. thank you. we will continue to report on what is happening in your township. please come back anytime. appreciate you being here. masks might be making a comeback. some schools businesses are bringing back covid restrictions.

dave: welcome back to coast to coast. the nasdaq just dropped below its 50 day moving average indicating a bearish trend down 11/3 of 1%. david wagoner is here to talk about this. i understand it is a slow month but are we moving into a trend now? downward trend? >> it seems investors specifically for the nasdaq and the s&p are not buying the dip today. thinking back to 2,020 one, every time the market had a 50 day average we would have buyers come into the market but now that it has dip below the

50 day moving average and headed into a seasonal month, the data came out this morning was very eye-opening. they came in stronger than anticipated. if you look at the four constituents, the new orders and the business activity, inflation continue to go higher and that rang true of the cleveland inflation cast which showed inflation for the up and coming month is 0.8%, much higher than we have seen the last 2 or 3 months. dave: a lot of inflation for managing we've not seen yet, talking about diesel oil prices, 40% in the month of august.

these will show up as inflation too. >> 100%. look at crude it is up 27% in the last 3 months. the performance of the energy sector versus a discretionary sector. we see the uptick in crude, the energy sector has followed suit but that has a damper on consumer discretionary sector which found a lot of weakness. consumer spending if you're spending too much money at the pump or overextending on the budget you are probably not going to be spending on services, that is what the discrepancies between those sectors. dave: you are not a political guy, but on the other hand you can't avoid it sometimes. the approval, the disapproval rating by the american public is pretty large, a wall street journal poll this weekend, 59%

of the public disapprove of bidenomics, only 37%. is that playing into these market calculations. >> i would think so. the election battle last four elections. and it has taken personal savings rates, the job data, what we have back, jolts come down but unemployment jumped to 3. 8% off% off of the heels driven by increase in labor participation rate. more people are coming back into the economy, getting jobs to keep up with inflation. maintaining their lifestyle. dave: and we talk about credit card debt which is up to

historic lies, people using their cards to pay off loans and paid for in cash or checks. great to see you, thank you for being here. rising mortgage rates and high prices are not stopping the average person from buying a new home. what kind of surprises do we have? >> reporter: a lot of factors at play. what we are looking at today, all of this impacting the investor. we are seeing a huge pool back from investors in the real estate market. real estate investors are buying 45% fewer homes compared to a year ago. that was the biggest decline since 2008. it outpaces the drop in overall home sales of 30%. the market in general is pulling back. mortgage demand fell to a 27

year low last week. that impacts some real estate investors. many of them make cash offers. the other factors on the investor side, high home prices along with limited inventory and economic uncertainty. this could mean an opportunity for families. seven in ten investor purchases aren't single-family homes. with less of them in the market, there's more space for families to get into single-family homes. >> 1000% it opens the door for them. there were many times i was heartbroken having to present what was a clearly better offer from an investor two years ago knowing it is in their best interests but knowing a family lost out on a great home because of it. >> reporter: potentially some good news. the market feels expensive.

mortgage rates, we saw it deepening but over 7%. if you can afford a mortgage and the high home price you are in luck. the reality is inventory is a huge struggle for those buyers. less competition for the families, potentially good news but there has to be a home available and still struggling. dave: if this inflation does kick up as a lot of people fear the price of diesel oil etc. that means there may be another rate hike coming, we could see rates over 8%? >> there's talk of an 8% mortgage rate in the past several -- dave: that would freeze up the market. thank you very much. getting get to the bottom of the east palestine train disaster residents one dancers and now a hearing set for this month, we are learning more from the congressman leading the effort right after the break.

respect the office of the president. no matter who is sitting in that office, for the president to come to a community like east palestine to show that he cares or she cares, that's an important touch and it would be received very positively. i will not hold my breath. dave: after so many months we had donald trump go back in february to look at the situation, the president has been on so many vacations over the past year. i just wonder how well he would be received. isn't there resentment building up among the people of east palestine? >> i heard the clip that you played earlier. certainly the residents are smart people, they see for themselves, they see the

president going to the bridge collapsed disaster over near philadelphia. they have seen the president go to maui. he should have gone to both of those, not saying he shouldn't have gone but he should also come to east palestine. it is remarkable that the administration has not had time to respond to governor mike dewine's request for emergency declaration. outside of the federal epa which i believe the epa administrator has done an admirable job in responding to the cleanup and the disaster. outside of that you haven't seen a lot of response from the president and his administration. dave: i have to ask, what is the biggest need right now for the people of east palestine? >> the people of east palestine want things to return to normal.

the biggest need they have is to get the cleanup done, get the trucks off the road, get the contaminated soil out of their, let that community return to some semblance of normal and beyond that, what we are looking on with victim compensation for residents and businesses, the railroad, i feel confident the railroad is going to do what they committed to do which is to be there for the long-haul. i've been there. i lived there for the first three weeks after the derailment by self, i am back there every week that i'm in my district and i will continue to do so and this hearing on the 22nd is part of that. let's take a look at the stakeholders in the local community and see what they are saying. dave: we will be following it. thank you for being here today. mask mandates are coming back at schools, businesses and

dave: bill gates is betting big on a bud light comeback. he has acquired 1.7 million shares of anheuser-busch. the president of operations anton ferrick's is here. is bill gates making a mistake? what do you think? >> bill gates is making a mistake. he made $900 million mistake when he invested in their largest rival earlier this year. since that investment, it is down 10%, brought markets up 10%. i was looking for advice on software companies, tech companies, might go to bill gates. he has a great track record on investing in winners at this point. for the company sake they would be better off if they were everyman type of person.

not necessarily somebody like bill gates who doesn't resonate with the common man. dave: is anheuser-busch betting on its esg woke ideology? >> at this point they have yet to come out and say who they are brewing there beer for. they have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders. to look at great products and she soldier services for their shareholders, i found a company called strive asset management for shareholder value. another camp, the vanguard camp that has anheuser-busch focusing on staples, not necessarily focus on shareholders but activists, political organizations and others. the ceo of anheuser-busch saying we are moving forward. serving great beer that is cold, has football for customers or getting involved in these political issues. i hope moving forward they will

focus on shareholders to get start going in the right direction. dave: bud light, disney, many examples of companies of not done well for their shareholders as a result of these esg woke policies. you mentioned your own company, if you heard of it before, no offense to you, it was cofounded by someone running for president, vivek ramaswamy. you passed the $1 billion in assets point so congratulations to you. it focuses on non-esg style companies. >> that is it. we started strive asset management to solve a fiduciary breach. you had large assets investing in client capital, nonfinancial interests. environmental issues, social issues that have nothing to do with companies making money.
