to madison alworth in simi valley california already with the very latest. madison. >> we are here at the reagan library and of the second gop hosted by fox, though set to take the stage wednesday night their goal to convince america that they should be the next president of the united states. the incumbent president facing tough news out of this weekend talking about the polling that you mentioned there. the washington post abc poll released sunday shows if the election were held today trump leads biden by double digits. trump not set to be here this week, the seven that have qualified will also be making the case that they should make it out of the primary because they have the best chance of beating the democrats come 2024. currently former carolina governor nikki haley as one of the strongest cases to make in that regard. nbc pulled into the by five points against the president.

incumbent president by 10.52 - 42%, democrats call it an outlier none other than hilary clinton feeling good about 2024. listen to this. i feel good when the democrats are and where president biden and vice president harris are. ashley: i guess you can say what else is she going to say. how did the latest numbers shake up the race for the white house or do they at all. joining the gop side independent women's forearms patrice and on the democrat side strategist fred hicks. patrice to you first. democrats are calling that nbc washington post pull a complete outlier. having said that, recent polls show people are not happy with the president's performance on the economy, the border, they're worried about his mental abilities at this point. what do you make of that and how concerned should the democrats

be? >> good to see you i think they absolutely should be concerned no matter how you spin this and whether you call it an outlier or not there's enough polls across the spectrum that point to a heated match between president trump and president biden. that said president biden should enjoy the incumbency and advantage of this point in that bidenomics had been working as well then he should not be worried where voters are. unfortunately this poll indicates for the first time 41% of americans say they're worse off financially during his time in office. when you look at the marks on the economy and immigration, your expensing presidency low ratings from voters and is underwater by 19 points from his approval. there is a lot of ground that the president would have to make up and his policies would not get him there. ashley: fred, let's get into it.

outlier or not there is concern among democrats now that are saying is joe biden the right candidate, can he go the distance, many asking whether he can fulfill a second term, let's say you. >> first i want to say that democrats never assume their 2024 is going to be an easy election. this data in new pool why i do believe we can get an outlier just requires us to double down and happening in america. the other thing about this poll, these are national polls and secretary clinton is really not how we do things. donald trump lost the national vote in 2016 and 2020 and lost the election overall in 2020. with that i'm going to say for viewers to understand democrats thought this was never going to be easy in the national survey but that being said, this should

sounded alarm and cause alarm bells to go off inside of the campaign to say listen, people have been talking forever about highly communicated and the impact of your administration. and communicating that and they have to do a much better job coming down the stretch and we're going to have to move up the time schedule, we cannot wait until after the primary. the case is to be made right now. honestly, the better and more polls that we see the better it is for donald trump and the more it invigorates republicans and moves people into solidify behind them. i think the democrats chaos is better so we need to keep this. ashley: let me bring in patrice. go ahead patrice. >> chaos is better, is that why we have massive influx of illegal immigrants at the southern border and spanning across the rest of the country to create chaos. i can understand how that

philosophy is. got it. i will say you have to look at the demographics as well when you see softening support for president biden among blacks and hispanics, hispanics in particular, when you see the loss of support of blue-collar workers, the workers that do not have a college degree but roll up their sleeves and get to work every day suddenly you see the realignment of voters particularly when it comes to the key demographics and the recognizing that bidenomics is not going to play well now or in the future. bidenomics drove inflation and cause that to increase interest rates and folks to spend more to pay for their mortgage and try to find a house today. bidenomics is not would be the solution. unless president biden has another solution it is not going to go well for him. ashley: very quickly, go ahead and respond, quickly. >> democrats have not particularly done well with noncollege educated brothers anyway. so preaches lantus as a

realignment that's not really what is happening here. what we see in the pool within the judicial democratic base there was a problem with the working-class voters in a working problem with working voters and minority voters but were not talking about the people are trained to decide whether or not they're actually going to vote in how they feel right now. that is a huge issue. that is a fixable issue of the administration with the campaign decides to alter and reconfigure other communicating and operating. ashley: very quickly patrice. very quickly i want to mention the fact that nikki haley is saying with the struggles of joe biden you looking at president kamala harris, is that a good strategy. >> i think for some republican voters they worry about kamala harris and the ability to present herself and be a leader and that she's failed and somebody job she's been given whether you're talking about the borders are, now she has a new

title about gun policy. she does not demonstrate that she's been a strong leader in delivering the goals and voting rights for example on the goals that she has been tasked with. nikki haley saying this is the president you're going to have it would be enough to scare a lot of conservative voters give trepidation to democrat voters who were looking at her saying she should be doing more. ashley: we have to leave it there. fred and patrice, stay there. we have other stuff to talk about. i want to move on to an issue that has both parties and the whole federal government on edge into minus five days a government runs out of money and there will be a shutdown unless congress can pass a funding bill. republicans are aiming to advance spending measures early this week but house speaker kevin mccarthy in a precarious position as some of his members are opposed to any short-term options. south carolina republican congresswoman nancy mace joins me now, great to have you with

congresswoman. how does this play out. mccarthy certainly has a split within his party. you have a handful of the lawmakers that say were knocking to go with another cr input a financial patch on this. we've had it. how does he get everyone on board. >> we have had nine months to work this through. we were promised regular order and we would not do washington as usual and we would be different and have 12 separate single subject appropriation bills and none of that actually happen in the first nine months of this year. that's where we are today, that is a 33 trillion-dollar question because that is the amount of debt we are proposing to democrats that our nation and its children and our grandchildren go into debt over. this is a looming fight and we do not know how it ends. we have a 50/50 shot whether we have a government shutdown.

ashley: do you think republicans take a blackeye for that? >> it is always going to be blamed on the republicans. but if you were watching and paid attention to what the federal government and congress is on the last 20 or 30 years you would know this was created by both sides of the aisle and if you avoid a shutdown in ob because republicans teamed up with democrats to spend more money than ever in the history of the united states to keep the government open. that is where i have a lot of concern that all of this could've been avoided with leadership on spending. ashley: very quickly, while i have you. house judiciary committee chairman jim jordan telling fox that the special counsel appointed to the hunter biden case will come before congressional committee next month. do you know and can you confirm what committee that might be.

ashley: take a look at the market trying to kick out the final trading week of september on a positive note. a lot of green but modest. all 3800 major embassies on pace to have a negative month the dow followed over 2%, the nasdaq plummeting over 5% as you can see. i was 5.5%, let's get the latest

read from asset management cio scott martin. i have not talked to you in a while, great to see you. look at this, you two. the month of september has been pretty poor we have a lot of headwinds coming out as of course the uaw strike that could expand. we have perhaps student loans being repaid, that could hurt the economy all sorts of things going on in the government shutdown. where do we go from here there is a big wall of worry. >> it's good to be volatile, historians have drawn the october is not a good month because of the crash of 87 and some other things so there is push and pull on the market but as a money manager manager and investor myself one as a steward of client money, this is exciting this is times when the market presents opportunities. when volatility kicks up stocks

overcorrected the downside meaning prices go too far down and then we get set up for a nice back and fourth quarter rally once we get past october and the notion that you mentioned earlier with a slowdown, shutdown, strikes and so forth then we get into an economy that has a federal reserve that gets the point that they need to lay off and stop the interest rate hikes and let the economy grow in interest rate stabilize and let the consumer continue to be strong. >> it begs the question where are some of the opportunities in your mind. >> great question very good question at that. that i think is an interesting part for investors as we speak to clients on a daily basis. things that don't look that great and that i'm not done well this year located oil stocks and energy stocks in an integrated part of things and also looking at financials. these are all companies and stocks that have not participated on the upside like

tech has. we like tech but it's time to take a few chips off the table and buy things that even laggards because as volatility kicks up those names will hold in well and they'll be part of the next rise up. ashley: as long as the treasury yield especially the tenure which is the benchmark about 4.5%. as difficult especially the growth stocks like tech. it feels strange seeing those numbers have put up for a half% on the basis points today it is scary stuff but the reality this is a normal level ironically if i could look back in history when we have a growing economy and consumer strong and high employment like we do now. there is a reason rates are up and the fed has done a fair job realizing inflation is not something transitory and needed more work but were getting towards the end of the tunnel when it comes to the fed stepping out and going into an election year next year so we

will see rates stabilize. when rate stabilize they don't necessarily need to go down but when they stabilize that's when stocks do the best. >> very quickly are you concerned about the consumer is a consumer driven economy almost two thirds 70% people are racking up debt the housing market has stumbled and is not in great shape is that a concern. >> it is a little bit here and there, the consumer is bifurcated these days there is a consumer doing very, very well and better and better and it consumer that is doing worse and worse you start to see the split but if you look at the breakdown some of the bar we numbers are a little bit scary the cost of interest and leverages going up that should stabilize and be a little bit more predictable going forward. two if you look at the consumer numbers, a lot of the high-end consumer as they have before keep the economy going and i believe they will do so here.

i'll just give you a feel for what's going on. you see the picket line at stellantis park facility. there is a guy that has been sitting there in his truck for maybe 20 minutes or so they will not let him in. in addition if we go this way you see a big truck coming in these are all about big parts and parts coming in for the folks that create the parts. this is warehouse where they ship them out to dealers. when people take the vehicle to the dealership to get repaired and they don't have the parts to repair them. that could change the support for the strike, this is a broad-based support based on the polling among the u.s. populace, that has happened where you cannot get your are fixed that mike change. the presidents week this week at the strike, but president biden as you mentioned informer president trump will be here

this week. biden on the picket line and president trump is going to an auto supplier to make a speech. at the same time the folks that want to be him in the gop primary will be debating. we will see how that turns out. what else can i tell you one final thing, speaking of parts, the transportation secretary was on the interview program yesterday, pete buttigieg saying that he admits electric cars will take fewer people to make them but he thinks it's an opportunity for growth. listen. >> tvs are better vehicles including the sense that they have fewer moving parts and they don't break down as often. they also represent a huge growth area for america to reclaim more of the sector. after manufacturing recession after the last administration we see a manufacturing boom under this administration. this could be a win win win. >> we will see if it's a win win win. right now it's lose, lose, lose.

accusations and they are just that, accusations but could this change things could a door be slightly opening. >> it certainly seems so certainly menendez is doing his party and his movement in the benefits right now by staying in his office and his seat. new jersey is a solid blue state but that's not to say republicans have not made inroads and you have a republican governor there and you see some interesting things happen so it would not surprise me. it is an embarrassment to say the least. ashley: what do you say to that fred. menendez says, i'm guilty, i'm not guilty until you prove it, he had an explanation for the cash in the gold bars but what have you, what is your take on this. >> it is certainly not ideal when you think about the pot of money each party has to spend on elections the pot is a large pot

is a finite pot of money so as i mentioned in the lead this takes away resources from people like sherry brandon ohio and jon tester and also limits our ability or restricts our ability to push up other places like were trying to find a candidate for florida and other states we look to try to pick up ground and this also feeds into a larger narrative. i'm sure republicans will take on all the other things that are happening in the country and try to create a narrative around democratic leadership so it's not ideal from that regard either. he did offer up an explanation so we will see it is october 20, 2030 but i think most democrats would feel more comfortable if there was another nominee running that seat. >> it is so narrow in the senate isn't it. it is a one seat difference.

how hopeful are you going into 2024 that the gop can turn it around in the senate? >> i'm hopeful conservatives can do that. i think the benefit of taking the house is a number of oversight hearings that we have had not just on the big headline issues but also the labor issues in the century of other issues that republicans have been able to shine a light on that they would not have the opportunity. imagine when we take the senate in 2024 and deepen the strength of the house, that allows hopefully conservative president to be able to bring the country along on a journey and turn it around from the path that president biden has it on right now and send it in a different direction. that said there's big issues that republicans and democrats, conservatives and liberals are avoiding that his entitlement and until we have a discussion on both sides of the aisle our country cannot go far and moving away from the deck cliff that we

as we see the near governor on the right-hand side calling from help from the national guard. talking of eagle pass that's where we find griff jenkins, he is live on the ground with the very latest. >> the situation in eagle pass has never been this bad it's ground zero and i solid announcement by new york governor kathy hochul saying additional 150 bringing the mission to more than 2200 national guard dealing with migrants in many who passed right through here i wanted take you through the drone footage. what happened here slowly throughout the morning 50, 60, 70, 80, 100 or more migrants into hundred or so were gathering after the river in mexico on the banks of the river here in eagle passage a little beyond where i'm standing right now. they could not get through the wire and the temperatures are

headed towards a hundreds and the women and children suffering from heat exhaustion, at 1.15 or 20 minutes ago the border patrol putting some women and children that were toddlers three years aged under onto the boat taking them to be processed, what's going through they've cut the wire the wire was put in there texas dps folks trying to deter the migrants but is not working, border patrol in a very difficult position because they have a humanitarian crisis on their hands and they can't leave those people continuing to build on the other side of the wire. it's an absolute crisis here right now. his numbers they've never seen. after this weekend we have more than 4000 migrants walk right past and these are many migrants from venezuela that are not deterred by razor wire, they

come for thousands of miles, another coming across here now because this is the administration chosen to favor catch and release, they know if they could get the treacherous journey over with through the wire that they will likely be released. many will head to places just like new york that is a life situation right here right now. will send it back to you. ashley: very good, bring get us right up to speed on what's going on eight eagle pass. swarms of migrants crossing the river coming into the united states. cities and states are being forced to deal with the border crisis and housing migrants. there are estimates that show 33000 veterans across america are still struggling with homelessness. the next guest runs a nonprofit for veteran homelessness for helping with the transition to civilian life. veterans inc. president and ceo then perrone joins us now.

they say 33000 but there are those that say it could be higher than that. why is that the case why do vets have so many problems transitioning from the military into civilian life. >> thank you very much for having me today, i appreciate the opportunity to talk to you. 33000 veterans that are homeless is a point in time survey. it is something that we should understand. that number comes from veterans who self identify as being homeless. so if the veteran has not self identified in a veterans clinic or hospital to the va population. they are not included. for example if you were kind enough to put me up for a couple of weeks on your couch because i

was homeless and trying to find a place to stay i would not be counted. the national coalition for homeless veterans considers the numbers to be two times more than that. we're talking 80000 plus veterans that are homeless. ashley: i get this question asked of me and i don't have the answer. why are veterans who have served the country and come back to this country how can it be 33000 minimum and probably a lot more than that as you pointed out how can they be homeless shouldn't they be at the head of the line to be helped out with the transition. >> absolutely right. i was on active duty when all of this started for me and i helped to build the fifth quote unquote homeless shelter for veterans of america back in the early '90s and we opened our doors in the

winter of 199229 homeless veterans. i truly believe that we will be through this program, the community service program and 3 - 5 years. here it is 30 years later we've served over 100,000 veterans and their family members and we average about 6000 terrains in the family members a year through a myriad of services that we provide. ashley: very quickly -- go ahead. what is the big issue. >> to answer your question more specifically when a veteran comes out of the military if they are struggling there is a certain level of pride and they don't like to try to get help, they like to fix it themselves. the va and the government is doing a better job on that. but that has been a challenge for a long time. ashley: vin, we have to leave it
