place. strong employment report this morning, the market went down, then came back, down again, now your dow is down 45, and the nasdaq's up 21 points. where's big tech? it was harp lu lower across the board -- sharply lower across the board, now it's higher almost across the board. only loser there is amazon at 125. check the 10-year treasury yield. that keeps moving up. quite some move up there, you're up 10 basis points. i keep saying this, doesn't sound like much, but in the bond market that's a lot. 4.82, is the yield. that means that mortgage rates could be edging higher again fairly soon. that's the markets friday morning. now this. let there be no doubt, donald trump nows how to cam pane. he's very -- campaign. he's very good at campaign politics. he's just thrown himself into the speaker election. he's playing the role of kingmaker. that's my opinion. trump is enthusiastically backing jim jordan. he wrote, quote: he will be a

great speaker and has my complete and total endorsement. trump sensed the opportunity to jump into a a highly charged political moment. he's going to d.c. next tuesday, the day before the speaker vote. he tells fox, i've been asked to speak as unifier. they've asked me if i would consider taking the speakership until they got someone longer term. i'll do it if necessary. is so next week it's all trump and the speaker vote. will begin concern anyone give much thought to the other candidates in the gop? they're all desperate to break out. but trump commands all the attention. there are two declared candidates for speaker, jim jordan, steve scalise. they face off tuesday in a candidate forum. the vote is wednesday, and trump will be at the center of it. scalise is very well liked and a prolific fund undergoing chemotherapy for blood cancer.

of autoworkers, and they're all striking because with life is unaffordable. and that's when strikes happen. look back through history. and the administration if has no solution for it. they've got yellen saying, oh, things are pretty good. are they? are they really? if you've got this many industries right now, i don't think that's a sign of things being all right. stuart: he's got to get out there and try to sell bidenomics because that's a main feature of his re-election campaign. the fact that people are not buying it is a problem for it -- >> he just can't sell this though, stuart. stuart: what can he sell? what's he got to sell? >> he can't sell anything which is why gavin newsom is out there looking like he's running for president. what he's saying is the president can't sell what he's doing, like it or not, at least i'm the guy that can get out there and mistake if it sound somewhat plausible. lauren: and the industries that align with the democratic candidate for president are striking. stuart: that's right. decaf, young man. perfectly normal, isn't it? >> it's about making money. war you can find -- wherever you can find opportunities. stuart: next one, the ticker symbol is bil. what's this? >> this is called safety, stuart. i mean, look, banks are really running into some trouble here. bank of america's down 25% in just the last year, citigroup is trading where it was in 1992, and i'm really worried about the bank, stuart -- banks, stuart. i mean, three years ago the 10-year yield was under 1%. now it's almost 5 president. 5%. that's a massive increase, and it's going to put a lot of these banks under even more treasure. -- pressure. it's an text etf that just owns treasure ily bills. it's the safest one you can find, you can sleep at night. stuart: bil. i shall remember that one. one more for you, merger arbitrage the etf. >> yeah. the headline number this

morning, employment number, stuart, news about exxonmobil and perhaps a takeover of pioneer resources. is so there's still a lot of merrier and arbitrage going on. arb is one that we like at capitalist pig.com and, basically, this is a strategy that buys the acquirer and sell the acquire'. so they basically bet on these mergers going through. it tends to be a steady -- not spectacular, but steady return: the risk here, stuart, is government. if government starts breaking up these mergers, this stock will suffer, but i like it for the long term. stuart: jonathan hoenig, good stuff. >> be well. stuart: see you next week. the billionaire investor ray dalio does not think that politics will settle down anytime soon. watch this. >> so we are going to have a great political conflict over the next year, two and three. we are going to have, in my opinion -- i may be wrong -- we are going to have debt and economic issues that will play

into that. stuart: okay. ray dalio will be on "coast to coast" on this network, 12 noon today. bring back lauren. looking at the movers, pioneer natural resources -- lauren: you can't ignore it with a 10% gain. reports that exxonmobil in advanced talks to buy this shale producer in a deal valued at about $60 billion. that would be exxon's biggest since the late '90s, and it solidifies its position, if it happens, in the permian basin. how much cash exxonmobil sitting on? $30 billion. is so put it to work. and take a look at pioneer's peers in the permian basin like devon energy, occidental, they're all up on this report. stuart: think about that, exxon's got $30 billion cash, apple's got $200 billion -- lauren: okay, when you put it like that. stuart: isn't that that something? amc, oh, or this is about taylor swift. lauren: yeah. the movie about her concerts is, like, selling out like it's, you know, "star wars" franchise.

♪ ♪ stuart: backlash for the white house over plans to restart the border wall construction. the president simply said, look, i've got no choice. roll tape. no, we don't roll tape. wall, now he's going to oversee the construction of more than to miles of it -- 20 miles of it. >> one question on the border wall. the money was appropriated for the border or wall. i tried to get them to reappropriate, to redirect that money. they didn't, they wouldn't. and in the meantime, there's nothing under the law other than we have to use the money for what it was appropriated for. i can't stop that. >> reporter: do you believe a border wall works in. >> no. >> reporter: aoc pushing back hard on the president saying, quote, the biden administration was not required to expand construction of the border wall, and they certainly were not required to waive several environmental laws to expedite the building. the president needs to take responsibility for this decision and reverse the course. while visiting mexico, biden's dhs chief says congress is to blame, not the white house. mayorkas did an about face on the border wall after saying there is a, quote, immediate need to build one. the white house comms team rushing into high gear saying, quote, the funds were about 20

miles of border reinforcements and were appropriated in 2019 before the president took office. he called on congress to reappropriate the funds for smarter, more fetive enforcement uses -- more effective enforcement uses. congress failed to do so. it's only a few months from now. now, of course, in the past when the white house had some problems with some laws in this country or perhaps a judge's ruling, they had no problem saying they were going to fight that in court. we've not seen that here, of course, and as we've seen with abortion, student loans and other issues, stuart. stuart: lucas, thank you very much, indeed. we have a related issue which i really want to report on this morning. i want to bring in todd benson. todd, texas rangers seized control of this 170-acre island in the rio grande river. it was complete, i believe, with cartels, gang mens, sniper nest- nests, weapons. take us through what you saw

when you went on this i'm going to call it a raid with these texas rangers. >> right. well, these were special operations units of the texas rangers and also texas military forces. this island had been occupied for 15 years by cartels, two different cartels are fighting over it, extremely dangerous territory especially right on the other side of the river. and we went in with atvs, convoys of atv iss. there was, there were, you know, security folks that were in the brush in advance, and we went in and we took the island and spread out throughout it and made sure that the other side understood that everybody on our side was extremely well armed and that there would be a lot of problems if anybody opened fire. thankfully, they did not. stuart: what do you think in this island was used for by the

cartel? >> right. this is a notorious with island in the region of fronton and roma that has been used to smuggle hard drugs north into the united states and also human beings more recently and cash ask weapons south -- and weapons south. it's also a place where cartel -- yes, sir. stuart: i just want to know what kind of weapons did the people on the island have? did they leave pretty fast when you showed up with really big weapons? >> well, the troopers, the troops that i was with thought that maybe the day or two before they had vacated that island. but on the other side of the river, they have sniper nests on a height. they have the strategic heights over there. they have buildings that clearly mark the names of their cartels and also the gulf cartel both

stuart: well, this is a very changeable market, isn't it? we opened up at 9:30 eastern time this morning, everything was in the red, every stock group was down significantly. two hours later they're all up. the dow is up 118, and the nasdaq is up 54 points and rising. in a market like this, with we've got a few movers. lauren's got them, and we're going to start with, yeah, you've got to start with microsoft. lauren: up they go. they're aiming to close their $69 billion deal to buy activision blizzard, call of duty publisher, in a week, on friday, october 13th.

swim squad at roanoke college in virginia is fighting to keep a transgender athlete, a biological male, from joining their team. david spunt has the story. all right. this trans-athlete recently competed for the men's team, didn't they? >> reporter: that's exactly right. and several of the women's swim member few that team member. members of the women's swim team are upset, they're calling on the ncaa to make changes and do it now. according to the team, the trans swimmer originally on the men's team. some of those swimmers knew they were on the men's team. now, former college swimmer or riley gaines, an advocate for keeping women's sports teams made up of biological women, joined the team at roanoke college yesterday to state their concerns to the public. >> this was a mediocre man who is vying to compete with the women's team and then turns into this record smasher. it's a abysmal, and i think it's nothing short of criminal, to be

totally frank with you. >> reporter: virginia governor glenn youngkin said we're committed to fairness in women's sports, i stand with roanoke college swimmers, their request is reasonable. it's common sense. the school released a statement because roanoke college can is committed to the success and well-ing being of every student and because this was the first time roanoke if college had encountered this situation, the administration launched a process to help inform our decision on transgender student athlete participation in all sports at the college. now, stuart, that process included a meeting of the board of trustees who ultimately decided to follow ncaa guidelines which call for influence collusion of transgender athletes -- inclusion to be determined by the national governing body of that short. -- sport. the ncaa reiterated the position but did not give more specifics about this case. stuart? stuart: thank you very much, indeed. tomi lahren with us this morning.

what's your reaction to this, but my real feeling is this just keeps on going, going and going. it's it's obviously not fair. >> it's not fair, and here is the bright spot of this: americans actually agree on this issue overwhelmingly. republicans, democrats, liberals, conservatives, independents agree that women's sports needs to be protected. you know, i work over at outkick as welsh we've been covering this story, paying a lot of attention to this because this is really important to us. riley gaines, of course, on outkick as well. listen, this is common sense. and i'm sick and tired -- and i represent a lot of americans, by the way, not just conservatives -- sick and tired of an entire team of women having to sacrifice their accomplishments, their achievements, their titles because one person feels entitled to take that away from them. why are 99% of americans bowing to the 1% who feel that their feelings and their identity should be coddled? it's enough of this. americans agree, let's have a consistent policy. if you want another category, that's fine.

but protect women's sports. it'd be nice if feminists were having this battle, but they have been so far silent. stuart: the world swim meet in berlin, i think, berlin, germany, they put aside a special category for trans-athletes. nobody showed up. >> right. stuart: what does that tell you? that tells me that a man transitioning to a woman doesn't want to compete with other trans people, they want to compete with women so they can win. >> right. stuart: where am i going wrong? >> and you don't see theerer reverse of this. i'm sure there are places, but you don't see a lot of women trying to compete against men, right? because they know they don't have the advantage. a lot of this feels like attention-seeking. we can be sympathetic to the trans cause without saying women's sports has to be the sacrificial lam for all of i it -- lamb. protect women's sports, spaces, safety. it's also a safety issue. americans agree, let's put this to bed. stuart: did you see what the

prime minister of great britain said? a man is a man, a woman and a -- a woman is a woman, it's just common sense. >> breaking news, a man's a man, a woman is a woman. stuart: the prime minister of britain says it. one more, the media with is whining about students having to pay back their loans. it could dip into their fun budgets. oh, the horror. [laughter] okay, the media's whining. what about the students? >> oh, it's safe to say students are also whining. not all students, but a lot of students who don't want to dip into that. when this was all going on, there were poll after poll showing that the vast majority that were getting this forgiveness, they were spending this extra cash on vacations, on designer clothes, on eating out. they were having a good old time, and they think that the american taxpayer should foot that bill? i don't think so. it's time for some conservativism to come back to the younger generation. if you don't have the money, you don't get a fun budget. i'm sorry, that's the way life works. tour constituter what about your fun budget there, brian? >> i think paying your loans is

fun. becoming an adult is fun. capitalism, building wealth is fun. let's have some fun and pay our loans, stuart. stuart: i'm with you. you've got to pay it back. the idea that you're with whining because you can't go on that vacation any longer, that just doesn't work, does it? you've got to pay. >> it doesn't work. and, you know, i don't think paying bills is fun, but paying other people's bills, brian -- lauren: that's less fun. >> not my fun budget. >> and i would also argue in the words of riley gaines, criminal. stuart: that was a very strong word that riley gaines used there, criminal. and and she's talking about biological men competing with women. that's what she was saying, that's criminal. now, that's a bit strong, isn't it? >> i understand her passion for this. think about how this is going to impact those female athletes this though. this might take up their spot, it might mean scholarship money, it might mean accolades, achievement, nil money for them. there's a lot of things on the

line for women, so i don't think she's going too far by calling it criminal because you're robbing people of something that they've earned. stuart: okay. is there anywhere, any sport where the rule is written down men compete with men? women compete with women? if that's it. where is that happening? >> there have been some sports groups that have tried to make that dictate and that mandate, but it just varies so widely when you add in all the colleges and now the high schools. pretty soon this is going to go all the way down into, what, elementary school? i'm not sure where we go from here, but we have to reverse this trend now because it's getting worse. there has to be a discussion about this, and there has to be people that are doing this for the attention. they have to realize the attention you're going to get isn't going to be positive, so don't try the it. stuart: gotta go. tomi lahren, always appreciate it. we toll you earlier in the week that nancy pelosi was removed or asked to leave her private office in the capitol. but, ashley, i don't think that's going down well with liberals, is it?

stuart: markets total turn-around. we're now up 200 on the dow, 115 on the nasdaq, up 28 on the s&p and rising. and then there's this, major airlines grounding some planes after discovering their jet engines were equipped with fake parts. uh-oh. ashley webster's with us. how many planes have fake parts, ashley? ashley: well, that is the disturbing, frightening thing, stu, or we don't know. we do know that so far these questionable parts including everything from screws is the and boltses to more vital units have been found in 126 engines across several airlines, american, united, delta and southwest airlines have all pulled jets from their fleets for further inspection. how did this happen? well, a little known broker of airline parts, a u.k.-based company called ark og, is accused of forging safety certificates to sell its engine parts to airlines. they're supposed to undergo stringent safety tests to insure they are airworthy.

fair enough. each part comes with a certificate that can be used to trace the component's origins and inspection records. but even more disturbing is the revelation that the most affected engine model in all of this, the cfm-56, holds the record for the most engines ever sold to airlines, so it's common. it is currently in numerous jets across the world, most notably boeing's predecessor to the 737-max and the original air bus of the, both very common in flights across the world every day. those engines, by the way, were unwittingly made by ge in a joint venture with saffron. both of those companies suing this parts maker. aog also faces allegations that it faked employees and was using tock photographs for fictitious -- stock photographs on linkedin, it gets worse. airlines say they are quickly identifying the affected engines which they say may cover only a fraction of their total number, and they claim that safety,

passenger safety has not been compromisedded. we did receive a number of statements, this one from delta airlines who told us in part, quote, working with the overhaul provider, we are in the process of replacing those parts and remaining in compliance with all faa guidelines because safety is always our priority. stu, bottom line, the shocking act sayings raising serious questions about the effectiveness of safety oversight measures in the air aviation industry with so many people asking how on earth could this happen. how could someone make parts, allegedly give it a fake certificate and on you go. very disturbing. stuart: got that right. thanks, ashley. now this. i've got something else for you. a fedex plane landed at chattanooga airport. take us through it. lauren: there's an investigation underway after a fedex express cargo plane crash landed just before midnight last night in chattanooga, tennessee. there was an issue with its landing gear. if you watch video of this, it
