israeli defense force entered the gaza strip, not necessarily the start of the ground offensive. what we are getting is information that this is specific to people taken captive, 150 people killed by hamas or islamic jihad and this is an effort to rescue some of those people. is really cemented the gaza strip, members of the army entered the gaza strip, not necessarily the start of the invasion. the exodus from gaza city is very much under way. the defense force told the palestinians to get out and some of them, despite the fact that hamas told them not to do, many of them are heading south out of gaza city. 1 main rd. is the primary way to get south out of gaza city and along the beach, 1.1 million people trying to make that trip right now. all the people, major exodus, headed south out of gaza city.

indeed headed south. we had this remarkable scene of leaflets being dropped over gaza city. that's how israeli defense forces communicate with the population of gaza. the leaflets saying they have 24 hours to evacuate the city and head south, the population centers in the middle of the gaza strip, night has fallen, we are waiting to see if we get more rocket fire out of the gaza strip. we've not seen any yet. the artillery banging away as the israeli army continues to soften on the battlefield in advance of an imminent ground invasion. adam: we mentioned this idea that leaflets, israelis to say get out and get out of gaza and separate reports that hamas is telling civilians not to evacuate. are there fears that hamas is going to force that issue?

>> there are reports that hamas was physically stopping people from fleeing south, that doesn't appear to have materialized. people are moving south and moving south under their own power. i've seen images doing what they can to get out. there are also messages from the hamas leadership discouraging people. this is a remarkable thing to do. this speaks to the idea of using the population as human shields, telling them not leave, one of the most powerful armies of the world coming in. jack: q for that. incredible reporting. gary kaltbaum is looking at these markets, we chatted about this in the past through so many crises. this one is unique in that what you think would happen didn't or hasn't, not meaning to say

we can't still have serious ramifications, frozen money and all the rest. what do you think? >> oil prices up $3.5 today. i think the market is oversold, bounced a little bit. i have been saying this in every report, the underlying market is so much worse than the indices show. we are way off the lows of last october a year ago and in the last week, underneath the surface, a lot tougher out there and earnings tell a tale here. i've been talking about yields, they stay up, that is troublesome, debt has been skyrocketing to the government which is unimaginable, how much debt they are incurring.

and they are 30% from two years ago. still plenty of head went out there, it is good to see the market, in the first inning. neil: i don't know if it fits this category, and that might materialize here, markets follow what the fundamentals are that justify buying or selling right now. the consumer confidence figures that tumble inflation expectations, the highest they have been on the part of average folks who are getting skittish. a lot of this, all of this is data prior to the israeli attacks.
