it's now at 4.91, getting ever closer to 5%. that's a negative for stock stocks, look at the 2-year where, well above 5%. in fact, it's at 5.22. that's the markets and now this. 2023 is a most unfortunate echo of 1979. the carter presidency then and the biden presidency now, both challenged by the mullahs of iran. in the '70s jimmy carter bent to pressure and told the shah of iran he could not forcefully put down the revolt led by the ayatollah khomeini. the is shah went into exile. how maney called america the great satan and took american diplomats hostage. that crisis wrecked the carter presidency. he was defeated in a landslide by ronald reagan. iran is now challenging biden. it could wreck his presidency a too, and we got here because

biden showed the same kind of weakness that jimmy carter showed all these years ago. january 2021, biden walked into the oval office and ended america's energy independence. he played all the green cards to cut back on oil. that play played right into the hands of iran which wanted to raise its own oil production. do you think they care about co2 emissions? then biden tried to go back to obama's nuclear deal where trump had stopped cold. and to persuade the mullahs to may ball, he allowed the oil sanctions to collapse so the iranians spent the revenue propping up their proxies, hezbollah and hamas. they attacked american bases, and biden hardly responded. in short, biden appeasedded our enemy. we are where we are now because iran cannot be appeased. it can only be subdued by making them afraid as trump did. the question now is, how will biden respond if and when iran attacks and kills more americans? their proxies have already

speaking with bob dietz last week, dana and bill spoke with him, and i jotted down something that he said because he said every u.s. president who extends his hand the iran gets it slapped. i think that's very true. we certainly saw that with jimmy carter. and i think the interesting dynamic that's going on right now is that iran saw what happened during the trump administration. they saw all of these alliances growing with the abraham accords, with the arab states and potentially even with saudi arabia. all of that was isolating iran, right? so, and i think that there was a reason and an intention to the brutality of this attack, because it incites so much anger on the part of israel and the part of the united states. and now we see what's happening. we see the arab states, some of which have become, you know, we've built alliances with over

the past few years where they're also now chanting death to america. so iran, which became very isolated, is now feeling a little bit of support from its arab brothers out in the rest of the region. and that is a problem. and i think what an american president needs to do the at this point so to remindal all of those countries why they wanted those alliances. there is good and bad despite religious differences. there are terrorists and there are non-terrorists. there are actors in all of these countries who want a future. saudi arabia wants to be central to that future. they wanted israel to be in that with them. and iran is, i think, having some success with the fact that they have had this amazing uprising of outrage, right, that they have provoked from israel and the united states and justifiably so. stuart: well, do you think that iran -- i'm sorry, do you think that israel is losing the pr battle over that hospital blast?

>> i think ultimately they will win it. if i think that the evidence that they can show that the, this bomb was launched from inside of gaza saw, i think that they have already begun to show video, and i think that they will eventually be able to prove that this was a gazan armament. stuart: will they convince arab states? >> they'll never convince hamas. it's too strong of a propaganda point for them. it is heartbreaking to see what happened at this hospital. it is, i think, a mistake for american congress members to come out and draw conclusions -- stuart: so quickly. >> -- before we have evidence, you know? how dangerous. no one needs to incite this situation more. than it already is. it's bad enough without members of congress starting to shoot their mouths off before they have an honest assessment based onst u.s. intelligence of what

actually happened. very, very dangerous. stuart: we're going to be watching you at 3:00 eastern time only on fox with martha. >> thank you, stuart. stuart: good stuff today, thanks. back to the markets, please. we've got the dow off 170, half a percentage point, nasdaq down about 1%, three-quarters of 1% down for the s&p. heading south after the president's presentation. mark tepper with me. in fact, he's here for the hour. later this afternoon we're going do -- to get earnings reports from tesla and net this flicks. tesla, what do you expect? >> it's always tough to forecast what's going to happen with tesla's stock price because with it tends to trade on sentiment more than valuation. investors are going to be focusing on the downward pressure we're expecting on their margins because, as we know, demand weakened or softened a little bit, and they've had to begin cutting prices on a lot of their lower e level models. we'll see what happens there, but the consumers have become

quite a bit more price conscious over the course of the last few quarters. stuart: i was astonished to hear the price of the model y is 25% lower than a year ago. >> that' deflation, not inflation, right? [laughter] stuart: which other product has been cut by 25% in price? deal with netflix, please. >> netflix is interesting because, you know, obviously with the actors' and writers' strike, some of the criticism on netflix is maybe they're in the going to be able to roll outed good, high quality content which they normally do. but i'm actually looking at the flipside of that argument where now since they haven't really had to spend much money on content, they've been able to make recycled content work. suits is a show they released in the middle of the summer. that show came out in 2011. is so they released it in the middle of 2023, and it broke a bunch of streaming records. so i'm actually expecting that netflix could surprise to the upside based on the fact that content spend was likely down,

subscriber growth and revenue still good. stuart: quick comment on what i think is the key issue of the day, that's rising interest rates. i've got the 10-year treasury now yielding 4.91. that's the highest yield since 2007. and i'm looking at the 2-year at 5.23. >> yeah. stuart: that's not good for stocks. there's just no way that's a positive. >> no. i mean, investors do have an opportunity, certainly, to buy treasuries. and i think on the 10-year, i think it's going to go up above 5, 5.1. it's heading in that direction. but this stock market overall, look, if you went into this year positioned for a recession which everyone in the world predicted, you got your face ripped off. ly, i feel like -- similarly, i feel like if you go into 2024 positioned for an economic boom, you might suffer the same fate. investors have to make sure they're buying all-weather stocks that can perform in any economic climate. stuart: look at that, 5.23 on the 2-year --

lauren: that's a 17-year high. stuart: lauren, you're looking at visa and mastercard. that. lauren: yeah. "the wall street journal" is reporting that the federal reserve is preparing a proposal that would lower the fees that the merchants pay to card companies and the banks when you use your deck can bit card. a meeting is next week the vote on this proposal, and that would mean that the card issuers make less money. both stocks down over 1 president. stuart: -- 1%. j.b. hunt, freight carrier. lauren: net profit dropped, they're not shipping as much because customers have bloated inventories and is are bringing this less new products, down 8%. stuart: spirit aerosystems. lauren: so they make the fuselage for some of the boeing planes. this is been quality control issues with that. spirit now has a deal with boeing that would include some price increases for them and a cash advance. so its main customer, boeing -- which is up almost 2% -- is helping spirit through its

♪ stuart: as of now, president biden has concluded his 7-hour trip to israel, and he's on his way home. peter doocy with me. the president just made two public announcements today. but what i want to know is what's going on behind the scenes? >> reporter: apparently, there's a lot. so president biden didn't have a ton to say at the microphone about rescuing american hostages that are held in gaza, but he suggested that there are a lot of moving parts that we can't see. >> we're working with partners throughout the region pursuing every avenue to bring home those who are being held captive by hamas. i can't speak publicly about all the details, but with let me assure you, for me as the american president, there's no higher priority than the release and safe return of all these he'sages. hostages. >> reporter: the president has also seen intel about the deadly bombing at a hospital in gaza last night that makes him believe hamas is wrong and the

on this trip? >> i think he is. i think he is quite a bit with because, you know, when domestic issues fail or to you fail domestically, you go overseas -- you and i have talked about this for years -- or vice versa. and presidents, wartime presidents tend to win on the popularity if it's a successful prosecution of a war. woodrow wilson, fdr, look at wartime presidents over our history or wartime leaders. so i think he's staking a lot on this politically. what is the benefit of going to israel? he's invited by bibi net an a ya i hue, i understand that. abdullah is not meeting with him, the palestinian leaders are not meeting. he's not going to el sisi. they tried to float this idea, excuse me, of the president taking the middle east one-on-one and dealing with it, and he just isn't. stuart: we are told that he's going to be speaking a aboard air force one with abdullah in jordan, well sissy in egypt and -- with el sisi in egypt and

jordan. it looks like 4 of those holdouts will vote against jim jordan again in a few minutes' time. i think the vote has already started. this is not good for the republican party, david. >> look, at this point -- and i'll draw the difference between consensus on a leader and consensus on legislation -- when it comes to legislation, you get christmas trees. everybody wants their piece of the my. here you have a group from the appropriators, the defense hawks and some many biden districts that have voted against jordan when you break down who the 20 are, they chair committees. with the jordan vote, it's consensus on moving to the next step, and then you can work towards legislation. look, it's messy, it's dirty, i don't like the way it was done. i was not a fan of mccar they're, but the -- mccarthy, but the republicans need to get it together. a vote for scalise goes nowhere, mccarthy's not coming back if anyone else someone may want to support. stuart: the democrats are going to have to step and elect a

mark tepper, what do you think of this total chaos over the speaker vote, what do you think that does to the markets now or eventually? >> right now it seems like the markets really don't care much about it. it seems almost as if investors are now -- they have an expectation there's going to be dysfunction in d.c. not to mention the fact that i believe as a country we've, a lot of us have have loft confidence in the -- lost confidence in the u.s. government doing the right thing whether it be censorship or the fbi spaying on the parents of school children, we've lost a lot of confidence. in the long run though, stu, look, i think this is good for our economy to really tray to instill some sort of fiscal discipline. we've got $33 trillion in debt. 50% of that comes due in the next two years. it'll have to be refinanced at higher rates. our interest costs are going up. that's going to hurt our economy, so if we can get the ship righted, that will be good for us in the long run. stuart: i'm trying the make sense of the vote that's on the screen right now. at the moment they've not finished, heavy got three minutes left.

telling you. -- a combo. let's turn back to israel. president biden wrapped up his visit and is now on his way home. trey yingst on the ground in israel. all right, trey. since the president has now departed, does that mean we'll see the ground invasion soon? >> reporter: yeah, stuart, good morning. it's much more likely. and just moments after president biden was wheels up, there are air raid sirens sounding once again in central israel. hamas and islamic jihad firing on major population centers. i do want to show you the skyline just over my shoulder, stuart. you can see in the distance some black smoke rising up as the sun sets here in southern israel. that is coming from israeli airstrikes along the gaza strip. we have watch throughout the day as the israelis have targeted gaza. we do have some more information from inside the strip on that hospital explosion yesterday, but first i want to get to some video we shot and a report from along the border with gaza. we were able to enter one of the communities where hamas kerr took place last saturday.

we were with the israeli military, and this is what we saw. it's a ghost town. pieces of life are scattered amid the charred remains of death. the few civilians still here only returned to gather belongings and look for their pets. >> i can do whatever to help and keep me sane. >> reporter: what should the world know about what happened here? >> i can't speak about it. finish i haven't, i haven't realized the situation til now, sorry. >> reporter: in the distance, israeli airstrikes pummel the gaza strip. black are smoke spewing from the horizon before the next explosion. i want to show you the fence here. this is where militants broke in, slaughtering so many civilians and taking hostages back into the gaza strip. this small community along the gaza border was known as a paradise in the south. special needs children would come here to play. there was a dairy farm nearby.

when hamas militants entered last saturday, they killed as many people as possible, doing what they could to create hell on earth. you can see here many of the homes were burnt down by palestinian militants 12 days ago when i think entered this community along the border. families were in bomb shelters trying to hide from the gunfire and the executions outside. and when these militants couldn't breach the shelters, they burned down the homes. as we find out more about the communities along the border that faced these massacres by palestinian militants, i do want to draw your attention to inside gaza. we've been gathering more information from the hospital explosion last night. the israelis telling us today and providing evidence that an islamic jihad rocket misfired, landing in that hospital yard and killing many palestinian civilians. this is in contrast to what we were toll by hamas officials who

claimed it was an israeli strike. all of this taking place as tension rises along the northern border9 and the lebanese militant group hezbollah continues to get involved in the fight. stuart? the. stuart: that evidence is very important: trey the, thank you very much for joining us. we will see you again later. the u.s. military intercepted several drones that were targeting a military base in iraq which houses american soldiers. former ambassador at large nathan sales joins me now. mr. ambassador, this, a drone attack on a base in iraq? housing american soldiers? sounds like the war has already started to widen. what say you? >> well, stuart, this is a page right out of iran's playbook. iran does not want to risk an open confrontation with the united states because they know they would get their clocks cleaned. so what they do instead is hide behind proxies like she that militia groups -- she -- shia militia groups in iraq who they

train and arm. what this attack says to me is that iran is not deterred the. they are not shying from a fight. and, frankly, i don't -- it's easy the understand why. over the past two and a half years, iranian pox says in iraq -- proxies in iraq have launched i think 83 attacks against american soldiers there. guess how many times we've responded? four times. that is not going to establish deterrence. stuart: what should our military response be if hezbollah attacks israel and looks like it could overwhelm the iron dome? what should our military do then? start firing shots in angersome. >> no. -- in anger? >> no, or we should be strategic and deliberate about the american response. the most important thing we can do right now is peace through strength. demonstrate resolve, demonstrate our commitment to assist our ally, israel, so that iran calculates that it's not going to be worth it for the them to unleash their proxy hezbollah in the north.

if hezbollah -- if the worst situation comes to pass and hezbollah opens up a two-front war, the maneuver response is really going -- the american response is really going to depend on the specifics. is it just a couple of fighters? is hezbollah activating there are the cells across the world including in the united states? we'll have a bunch of different options, but it's really going to depend on the level of violence unleashed in israel. stuart: we've got these drone attacks. we have widespread unrest on the west bank. we've got continuing rocket attacks coming out of gaza, still going into israel. that's -- it looks like israel is now surrounded on all sides and certainly on three sides by pressure from its arab neighbors. i i means -- i mean, at what point does america's military respond? you say not yet. >> stuart, that's exactly right. and this is all part of iran's plan. for the past number of years they have been encircling israel with proxies in the north, in the south, in syria as well.

the american response here has to be clear, we stand with israel, full stop. and, you know, the president, credit to him for going into israel to show solidarity, but there's really confusing signals coming out of his administration about this. you have a white house spokesperson if saying that the reason the president went to israel was to ask the hard questions. that is not why the president is there. that kind of statement shows that there is daylight between the ideals -- the united states and our ally, and if iran thinks this is a gap they can exploit, they will exploit it. increasing the risk of miscalculation and escalation. america is israel's closest ally, we need to act like it, pull stop. stuart: mr. body, thank you very much, indeed, for joining us. i know you jumped in at the last minute, we do treerkt -- appreciate it. >> thank you, stuart. stuart: right now the speaker vote is about to begin in congress. jim jordan needs 217 votes. last time he only got 200. we'll keep you up to speed on
