5:01 pm
biden white house gives iran more money, iran is stepping up executions and human rights abuses of its own people. this story, are voters blowing off trump indictments? we've got another new poll from market, trump lead biden voters and independents and is the white house talk ago big game? are they really going after anti-semitism as schools because florida is. why did it take five years for u.s. attorney david weiss to buckle down and launch a probe and changing title 9 rules and warning these rule changes will harm women student athletes. and twitter rapidly trying to put out the fires of elon musk backing an anti-semitic post, but people like keith oberman are getting roasting saying the government should shut down twitter all together. i'm elizabeth macdonald and the evening edit starts right now.
5:02 pm
joining us now, retired lieutenant colonel, she's a former green beret, the colonel served on combat tours in afghanistan and iraq. colonel, great to see you. let's please first get your reaction to secretary of state antony blink r here. watch this. >> i don't hear the un cry for hamas to respect international united law. for hamas to maybe get out of the buildings and hospitals and schools so the civilians aren't in danger. for hamas to surrender. that would help civilians immediately. i'm not hearing anyone say that. elizabeth: colonel, he make as good point about hamas. why is the white house appeasing iran, hamas' biggest backer? they just gave iran $6 billion in a hostage swap, they unfroze $10 billion for iran, idf is now again hitting hezbollah targets in remember anne donovan and
5:03 pm
israel and -- lebanon and israel and syria. >> thanks, liz, first of all i think the secretary is spot on when he talks about calls for hamas to regulate its behavior and violations of law, land warfare. that's exactly the right thing to call for. but then to turn around and provide further financial resources to the very sponsor of that surrogate makes absolutely no sense. they are a state sponsor of terror and intricately involved in this operation as well so to make those kinds of overt claims while supporting iran, it make nososense at all. elizabeth: so, thank you, can he remember, for that. bring in retired major general dana patar and served in the military for 30 years and iran is continuing public executions including by hanging, hanging women and also human rights abuses. we've got an independent news
5:04 pm
outlet focusing on the middle east and iran executed 114 people since the 10/7 hamas terror attacks on israel, on dubious charges of things like corruption or enemies. what do you think of this, general? >> first of all, good afternoon. i'm not surprised. there's been protests it in iran over the treatment of really some protesters on democracy and issues like that. the regime feels threatened and so they are not only arrested people, but they're executing them at a rate that's unbelievable, even for iran. elizabeth: colonel, the israeli military -- let's move to this. israel reigns leading covered the body of a -- recovered the bodty of a second hostage murdered by hamas. a 19-year-old military corporate. idf recovered the body of a 65-year-old woman. she was discovered in a house near the hospital complex in
5:05 pm
gaza city. colonel, there's a lot of reaction about israel going into the hospitals in gaza, that israel is apparently not doing the right thing here but, colonel, do you believe that hamas has been using the hospitals and schools and more to basically hide their tunnel network, hide command center? reports are coming in and that's not been verified hamas' military command center is in the hospital, but israel continues to plum the depths of the places. >> you break it down from the overt to more indirect and they took hostages and that's a violation of law of land warfare and leveraged those hostages to get what they want. then they've executed them inside of gaza. you know, that alone right there warrants the kind of surgical strike that israel is launching into gaza and i think they've been doing a very diligent task of showing in near realtime what they're finding as they go. i think in this cycle where we
5:06 pm
worked and want information so fast, we expect them to produce more strategic results from a raid that just happened. i suspect that we'll see that. i suspect they'll continue to show evidence of that, but it's certainly not going to surprise me when it comes forward. elizabeth: general, final word, what do you think, general? >> well, what i think is what israel's doing is what they have to do. they have to eliminate hamas. it's not exactly a surgical strike what they're doing, but they're doing it very deliberately. and it's something that they must do, and we must remember hamas is the one that is putting civilians in danger by hiding behind them. elizabeth: general and colonel, thank you for joining us the only thing. good to see you. >> thank you. >> thank you. elizabeth: u.s. national security pros and 9/11 respondents and the white house are shocked and really upset. who would have thought we'd see the day when teenagers on social media site tiktok is applauding terror master mine osama bin lad
5:07 pm
and he's behind the 9/11 attacks that slaughtered nearly 3,000 30 innocent americans and injured thousands more. tiktok is aggressively taking action, but will it be enough? hillary vaughn on capitol hill with the story. reporter: good evening, liz. republicans and democrats on capitol hill have a common enemy: tiktok. bipartisan call to ban the app or force sale to a u.s. company are growing lauder as they're getting caught up in continue verse reigns leading and being accused of using algorithm to pus anti-israel and pro hamas platforms. >> the communist chinese party has say so of the cal gather rhythm and trying to use that to promote antiacademic activity. reporter: tiktok denies they're in com of the content saying it's driven by users saying tiktok does not promote one side of an issue over another. our recommendation algorithm does not take sides, but tiktok is in more trouble after that
5:08 pm
disturbing trend where tiktokers were praises osama bin laden, tiktok says content praising osama bin laden violates our rules on supporting terrorism and says the content is not unique to tiktok. but lawmakers say this is proof it's time to act before it's too late. >> for someone on tiktok to somehow suggest this is america's fault or that bin laden who killed thousands of innocent americans was right is absolutely disgusting and further evidence that we need to ban tiktok or force a sale. reporter: any congressional action on tiktok might have to wait till after the holidays into the new year and tiktok's parent company byte dance is not wasting time and trying to buy time by ramping up the lobbying efforts so far this year they've spent $7 million on federal lobbying and that's a record high for the company. liz. elizabeth: great reporting as always, hillary vaughn. thanks for your coverage there. joining us now is the editor of national review, rich lowry.
5:09 pm
good to see you again. what do you think of this story? >> it's so depressing. it's like an snl skit, a parody of vacuous and morally corrupted youth. i'm not in favor of tiktok and a ban would be great for my purpose of national security reasons. this is not a tiktok problem, it's a american youth problem. i exaggerate and not every kid under age 25 thinks this, is there enough kids thinking this to make this letter go viral? it's turning your stomach. elizabeth: biden's 2024 campaign team now weighing whether to join tiktok. it's also -- the white house is also really slamming what's going on on tiktok. they're saying this is horrendous. there are also 30 jewish hollywood celebrities and influencers, rich, they confronted tiktok executives in a conference call saying you've got to stop this flood of
5:10 pm
anti-semitism. >> yeah, the problem is, liz, we saw this in the third republican debate and vivek and nikki haley going back on this, tiktok is a cancer and terrible and bad influence in all sorts of ways, but hugely influential, hugely influential. we're talking about what some id i can't tells are saying on -- idiots are saying on tiktok. that's why the biden campaign is considering going on and that's why vivek is on and otherwise you're missing out on the huge conversation and the root of the problem at the end of the day and they corrupted the minds of our own youth against our own society and civilluation. no other society or civilization has done that in all of human history. only we have done it and the irony is these kids hate the west but thoroughly westernized and no other society with idiots with purple hair banning against their own society. try doing it in iran or gaza and you wouldn't last very long.
5:11 pm
it's a western phenomena we couldn't tolerate and self-hatred in the country. elizabeth: anti-semitic content soared more than 90% on twitter. it's up nearly 30% on facebook and soaring on tiktok since the 10/7 terrific r terror attack by ha has on israel. you'll see reaction from actor michael are rapapore. watch this. >> they were reckless and ignorant and osama bin laden didn't die enough for me. this is the most evillist man to ever walk the earth and killed over 3,000 members of -- that didn't go home that day, that didn't go home to their families. those people still many of them, haven't had closure. >> some of you actually all of a sudden are considering osama bin laden a freedom fighter. elizabeth: yeah, really?
5:12 pm
she's a freedom fighter, really? where does this go? >> yeah, that's all very well said, but again, the problem is we have created these kind of kids that think this way. it just -- think about the proversety of it. there's a horrible attack in israel and worst since the holocast and their reaction -- holocaust and the reaction around the world is tide of anti-semitism. what sense does that make and speak to a deep irrationality and evil and it's frightening that it's here and not just in the middle east anymore. it's here in our society too. elizabeth: got it, rich lowry, thanks for joining us this friday night. good to see you. still ahead, congresswoman monica de la cruz and sam dewey and parents defending education president nicole neily and messager columnist joe concha and biden education secretary really going to crack down on colleges over antisemitism?

5:19 pm
the breaking news late in the day and the new york judge on the new york civil fraud trial just rejected trump's motion for a mistrial and trump leads biden with voters overall and with independents and also biden is trailing nikki haley and ron desantis. >> certainly. i don't think that's any surprise as soon as you start looking at the economic numbers. i'm not talking about the talking points that are coming out of the white house, but the actual data. and that makes it painfully clear how much financial pain american families have been going through for the last two and a half years. as soon as you start sifting through some of those numbers, it's no surprise that people favor all of these other options over president biden. elizabeth: we have a new emerson college poll, half of registered voters in ohio, 50% bactrim p versus 38% for biden. you know, let's listen to the president admit a set back to bidenomics, watch this.
5:20 pm
>> i angler acknowledge there's a disconnect between the numbers and how peight now. elizabeth: what do you think about a disconnect between the numbers and how people feel? >> i find it appalling because that is the quintessential gaslighting right there from this administration. you know, mr. president, i'm sorry but the reason people feel so terrible about your economic policies is because they are terrible. they have terrible effects. look at typical american family for example. the typical american family is now effectively $7300 poorer than when president biden took office. there is a reason why people feel so terrible about the economy right now, it's because it is terrible. elizabeth: then you have this story, you know, the biden white house is not acknowledging any of the government waste, fraud, and abuse; right, we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars on a check that went out the door. now we have this, the president struck a deal with china to shut down fossil fuels in favor of
