i believe we lost alex, i'll go to you, this idea that she is trying to have it both ways, do you think she's trying to have it both ways? >> to some extent nikki haley doesn't want to cross a line on donald trump where she's offputting to his supporters or to trump himself where she is positioning herself to be not embraced by the republican party, i think what she is doing is fine trump is on the path to become the republican nominee. nikki haley is consolidating support among the people who are not trump supporters of the republican party in getting support among republican leading independents but for now trump is going to secure the nomination and she is positioning herself so if trump were to have to withdraw she is saying she's going to pardon trump and keeping it open so she can bring these voters back into the fold in the think she's fine

running in the republican primary, she could reverse course this last week in your future is at stake in what she should do is embrace donald trump, give the guy a hug, say i love donald trump, i would jump his bones if i could, he was a great president he made america strong. neil: you don't think there is something there, i understand what you're saying but you don't think there's something there for a candidate who's tapped $50 million in campaign funds for his legal bills that that's a legitimate issue in these other bills he's facing he might do so all over again or he gets sidelined that this is a legitimate issue? >> is a legitimate issue and she probably has the right side of the argument, i'm just saying it won't help voters see the donald trump republican primary has

been persecuted and this is part of the price that trump has paid to lead us and protect us from washington. there get a gift trump the benefit of the doubt, she should hug donald trump, embrace him in the strategy which is get up close, embrace him and say we love donald trump, joe biden cannot be impossibly ever but donald trump could be donald trump. if you want to vote for donald trump in tuesday on my home state, do it. but if you want to vote for donald trump and win, vote for me. neil: i don't know about the hug thing but i want to ask you about the impact of all of this because obviously she has nothing to lose staying in the race i understand what alex is saying that there many argue that soon everyone argues around donald trump the better but were

early on in the process and you need 12 or 15 delegates to close the deal and you donald trump it is little more than 60 and she's a little less than 40 that's a long way to go, what is the harm staying in and fighting and out. >> i think nikki haley has to make these and point out that donald trump is spending an exorbitant amount of his campaign funds on his legal bills, what is she doing saying in the presidential race if she's not going to make the contrast between her and trump and if she's not going to wage attacks on him and his candidacy, one to the point that she made a few times and she's not attacking trump broadly speaking but there's a chaos that follows him in the ongoing legal battles in the spending of campaign funds to expand his ego battles, these are legitimate points and is part of her argument as to why people should support her rather than trump. if she were to not capitalize on that argument in the information it would be doing a detriment to her campaign. you could argue as alex just did

that is not a detriment to donald trump in this campaign in any of these attack lines because he enjoins overwhelming support so far among republican primary voters, that could change as this campaign goes on, maybe not that that is the differentiator here, what she is attempting is to try to dislodge that support from voters that we overwhelmingly really love the former president. she might have a legitimate general election words much more challenging what do you think of argument. >> i think voters are good to give donald trump some slack, republicans feel he is being put in this position of having to defend himself against a million legal charges and forums because he protected them from washington. it's not his fault that he's in this, it is to his credit and

neil: the markets as you know for presidents' day are closed this was a last peek at them last friday, the losing week, the first one we have seen after five winning once in a row. in case you are counting, 14 of the last 16 have been positive for the major markets, that trend remains very much in place, kevin hassett the council of economic advisers chairman under donald trump my return to a similar capacity or higher in the future one, kevin, it's always good to have you. i want to get your sense of the run that we've been seated the markets, your old boss said in an interview that he thinks the market is getting excited for him returning with all the tax cuts in the business news, what do you think. >> there is a history of this, something that i wrote my first paper about an 0 four when there

fed is going to be open cut rates, i think the inflation numbers are staying pretty high, we had weak data last week in january is a crazy month, half of the country over the alaska doesn't have sunlight and that's with economic data is like for january. my guess, the fed will not cut rates, the market is adjusting to the fact that they were too optimistic about that. the other thing that i been writing about and reading about, i think artificial intelligence is starting to be visible in the data, i wrote an article of the national review last week that show companies across a wide array of industries when they bring a.i. are seeing big productivity gains in a month or two, it could be that there is something else going on with markets in nature and analogy of 96 were netscape navigator came in the market kept getting surprised by all of these games that companies were having as they wired up to the internet. i think we might be seeing something like that once again.

the a.i., if you look at what eric schmidt and bill gates are saying it is a bigger thing than the internet. it's probably going to be faster. i could also be affecting markets. neil: this is more personal question, if you will indulge me, great respect, if you're a genius one thing. your also, double-headed guy. i asked a lot of former cabinet members, key officeholders under donald trump what they make of him coming back and you quite rightly point to policies and productive and inspiring but he does piled up a lot of crazy comments, he is criticize nikki haley husband for not joining her on the campaign and admitting there were some problems there, of course he is in military service. he called her birdbrain and talked about stalling aid for ukraine, he has criticized nato and encourage the nato country to be invaded that doesn't do that, the reaction to that is overdone. he has yet to comment one way or

the other on alexei navalny staff. he has been very, very kind and comments regarding vladimir putin. i could go on to say how he routinely makes tacky comments about people he doesn't like. his demeanor almost seems childish and offputting. i would not deliver either of those qualities or personality traits to you, but how do you juggle that with a guy who had very good policies but who can sometimes appear nutty, what do you think. >> the thing that you have to understand is that he is out there every day speaking for hours and hours as opposed to a guy who ran against him hiding in the basement who now doesn't really ever take questions from smart people like you. the thing is there is a private site that i wrote about in my book, the drift to president trump that actually happened a couple of weeks ago, sadly you might've noticed the former

trump administration official mike gill was killed in a carjacking in d.c. while it was not public or anything the president reached out to try to contact the family through a friend of mine and is very personable person when you are with him and i think the american people see through the things that happened that he says as you just pointed out perhaps a little challenging to listen to but he is out there talking all the time and he is authentic, that is a reason why he's popular. people are tired of politicians that are scripted and don't even bother to take questions anymore. neil: when you hear the staff, i hear what you're saying into the same point, but when you hear some of these comments and some are pretty tacky and rude and even crude does that give you some pause that this guy could take the most powerful office of the world again?

>> i have seen his actions in the oval office for almost three years, i have seen his policy choices be great. i understand the decisions that is making, the pressure that is trying to put on the europeans to spend thereto for under 2% on defense, i think he has effective means of getting things done. neil: you also heard how he's treating the former top officials, but you also hear he treated a number of officials who were unceremoniously duped or tweeted out of their jobs and said awful things about them and he chose them, do you ever think of yourself if you were to join the administration that could be you? >> no, that's an honor to serve your country whenever you can and the thing that businessmen unlike politicians, can you think of anybody that biden has fired frankly? that means everybody who he hired has been absolutely magnificent employee? i think the businessman, they pick people go through them and sort through them and keep the
