larry: so apparently, with harris, lee carter independent voters, watching the debate, swung heavily towards donald trump now, isn't that interesting? and more interesting, elizabeth macdonald up next. liz: [laughter] you know that new york times poll the independent voters are moving more toward trump in that poll too it's really interesting stuff thank you so much larry

have a good weekend. welcome to the "evening edit." i'm elizabeth macdonald. tonight the news is coming in the debate did not convince undecided voters to go for kamala. we've got it and the verdict across-the-board, the abc debate last night flopped. so do a second debate, as a do-over. there was little policy debate on voter priorities, and how trump and kamala want to fix america. it was heavy on bias and yesterday's grievances. little pushback on how kamala and biden's policies drove the border crisis, and drove inflation sky high to begin with. everyone's favorite joe concha and jason chaffetz fired up and ready to go, also tonight, a brand new read on inflation, a weakening jobs market, but little from abc moderators on kamala about that. tonight, we've got the double-digit increases on essential items americans need to get by. this is now hitting the race. plus there's this.
5:02 pm
>> i was a victim of crime in san francisco back in 2008. i was robbed and my skull was fractured in two places and i had about a dozen staples in the back of my head and nearly lost my hearing in the left ear. the guy that did it was an illegal immigrant that should have been in jail. liz: yeah, but then, d. a. kamala harris let that person out of jail so why the media also is doing this including abc last night. they are unfortunately getting it wrong, wrongly claiming crime is going down in the united states. they are miss reading the data. also this is happening amid new accusations of gangs taking over yet another building. this time, in texas. also tonight, the justice department revealed yet another assassination threat against us presidents. this is happening right around the 9/11 anniversary. this is a real threat to democracy. congressman greg stubbe here to

react but first we've got this. voter polls coming in reaction coming in, they are upset after the economy took a back seat in the abc debate last night. even though inflation is the number one issue for voters. madison alworth live in new york city with the story. madison good to see you. reporter: you know, only 13 minutes of last night's debate was spent on the economy. it was the very first question of the debate, but the answer was mostly a deflection. >> when it comes to the economy, do you believe americans are better off than they were four years ago? >> so, i was raised as a middle class kid, and i am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of america. i believe in the ambition, the aspirations, the dreams of the american people and that is why i palo alto networking in and have actually a plan to build what i call an opportunity economy. reporter: but harris was not pushed on the specifics of what
5:04 pm
that opportunity economy entails, or what her tax plan be , instead, the vp took aim at trump saying he would raise taxes. his response. >> everybody knows i'm an open book. everybody knows what i'm going to do. cut taxes very substantially and create a great economy, like i did before. we had the greatest economy. we got hit with a pandemic. she doesn't have a plan. she copied biden's plan, and it's like four sentences, like run, spot, run. reporter: much more of the 90 minute debate was focused on issues like the war in ukraine, abortion and january 6. there was nothing really about the energy policies of the two candidates. moderators failing to ask harris about energy positionses she supports like the forced transition to electric vehicles. something that former president trump asserted has led to the decrease of manufacturing jobs here in the us and let's take a look at that. those jobs we lost 24,000 manufacturing jobs last month
5:05 pm
and have lost an average of 1 1,000 manufacturing jobs per-month over the last three months. now, liz, a lot of americans were hoping to hear how both candidates would make their lives financially better. their plans for that, and we didn't get many answers last night. liz? liz: we sure didn't thank you so much madison alworth good to see you. again the voter reaction coming in based on what madison just said. reuters, the new york times, undecided voters still not convinced about kamala. cspan they did a snap poll on twitter 76% say trump won but abc moderators criticize for not debating the statistics on what voters say are their top priority, the economy, inflation, the cost of living, the border crisis, crime, social disorder, drug overdoses even. their questions were tilted left, and were more confrontation to trump. let's bring in fox news vick out

contributor joe concha. >> i was taking notes, and it was a disgrace by the way if you want to know my initial reaction as far as the moderators were concerned. first number is five. the number of times abc moderated or s fact checked donald trump. the second number is zero that's the number of times that kamala harris was fact checked by abc, despite having numerous opportunities to do so, when she lied time after time. the third number is six. that's the number of times that donald trump was asked a follow-up question and the fourth number, liz, is zero. that stands for the number of follow-ups of kamala harris. abc should never host a presidential debate again, especially when its top executive is only best friends with kamala harris. so you knew this was coming but this was even worse than anticipated, liz. liz: yeah, you know, when watching it, i mean trump did get punching through to get the last word as he tried. he needed a fluid rehearsed denouncement of her. senator marco rubio is saying
5:07 pm
this was an embarrassment to journalists and senator graham said the abc moderators might as well be on the dnc payroll. it's being called the worst moderated debate in history. let's go again how kamala dodged and played and manipulated the abc moderators. watch this. >> do you believe americans are better off than they were four years ago? >> i am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of america. i believe in the ambition, the aspirations, the dreams of the american people and that is why i imagine and have actually a plan to build what i call an opportunity economy. liz: okay so she started saying i'm the middle class child. so throughout the debate, when she was asked a tough question, she went for the identity simi valley path it play again and again. i'm a middle class child. she kept talking about her identity. you know, she came off as rehearsed. she did exceed low expectations, but she wasn't pressed on why she simply did not implement her
5:08 pm
vision over the last three-years. trump missed opportunities to hit harris on that. he did it at the end but you're right about the falsehoods. show those that kamala said last night. go ahead, joe. what do you think? >> oh, sorry i thought you were playing a sound bite. yeah, look. when she talks about how trump wanted, wants a national abortion ban, no he doesn't. when they say that or kamala said that oh, he is banning ivf. no he isn't. oh, he said it be a blood bath on day one. no he was talking about the markets as far as if he does not win and you see it all here on your screen right now and they could have so ease it it fact checked her and they refused to do it even once. now, kamala harris performed well last night, liz but that's the keyword. all foam and no beer. too rehearsed, too canned and on substance the public still has no idea how she's going to lower the cost of living which is far too high for most so if i'm
5:09 pm
grading she did not resonate with the people that matter, independence in wisconsin, north carolina, georgia, nevada and that's why you're seeing lee carter reporting that independents were not swayed and she performed that reuters panel that they took a look at independent voters and asked who are you voting for six said trump only three said harris, one undecided this didn't go the way people thought it did as far as kamala harris having a slam dunk last night. liz: you know, it's going to be really interesting to see how the polls come in from this. right? >> absolutely and we'll know in about two weeks when they usually bake themselves in. liz: joe you're terrific thanks for joining us tonight. >> thank you, liz. >> there's no question i'm in favor of banning fracking. >> do you ban plastic straws? >> i think we should. >> his quest to build a vanity project called the wall. >> senator harris you have said you would take executive action on guns within your first 100 days including biden saying there's no constitutional
5:10 pm
authority to issue that executive order when they say i'm going to eliminate assault weapons saying you can't do it by executive order anymore than trump can do things when he says he can do it by executive order. does the vice president have a point there? >> some things you can. many things you can't. >> let's let the senator answer? >> i'd just say hey, joe, instead of saying no we can't, let's say yes we can. [laughter] >> [applause] >> let's get constitutional. >> my values have not changed. liz: just one question last night about her flip-flops and nothing more. no pushback on the manifold flip-flops from kamala harris. david muir, and his co-moderator had no fact check for her. when she said last night "we're not taking anyones guns away you saw that sound." it was david himself who asked the same thing at the 2020 debate. kamala harris said yes she would get rid of guns and eliminate assault weapons joining us utah congressman jason chaffetz.
5:11 pm
what was your take on what you saw last night? >> um, look. i think she's a fake. i think when she says her principles haven't changed, i happen to agree with her. when you listen to bernie sanders, say in essence look, kamala harris will say whatever it takes in order to win an election, and let's remember, she didn't get a single vote through the primary, and let's also remember that when she ran for president, in 2020, she started off great, raised a lot of money and then voters on the democratic side of the aisle figured out she was not worth anything and they had her in sixth place in her home state of california and had to dropout of the race because she was polling behind andrew yang, so she may have been able to put on a little bit of performance, but look at her own words and contrast them now and what she's telling you, i just fundamentally don't believe her. liz: you know, yeah, and she kept talking about her "plan for things like the economy" but again, largely sailed along in the same unspecific promises about the future. let's show voters talking after
5:12 pm
the debate. you know, cnn is saying the majority is saying overall harris won but trump won in the economy. you know, we're going to look at what happened with voters and what they said after the debate. watch this. >> we've had both of the candidates in office before and we've gotten to see what they do and when facts come to facts, my life was better when trump was in office. the economy was higher, inflation was lower, things were better overall and now with kamala's administration things haven't been so fantastic, and she's saying she can fix the problems that her administration has caused but i just don't know if i can afford to take that risk. >> she wasn't very specific went asked certain things. >> i didn't really know a lot about her other than she served as vice president and today unfortunately she didn't get to talk about her policy. liz: so here is what's going on when we watch the coverage today, right? there is a new york d.c. media bubble, this beltway echo chamber, a hen house echo
5:13 pm
chamber, we're seeing a lot of coverage that trump lost the debate, trump lost the debate, but when you go out on main street america, and you hear what voters are saying, what they are saying is far different from what you're hearing the media report on this , because they have to live day-to-day with the policies that come out of this biden-harris without. >> yeah, she's full of platitude. she goes out an says oh, crime is so much better but here in manhattan, what 75% of the crimes that are committed, the police are reporting are from illegal immigrants that are here in this country? when she says oh, i have a plan, i have a plan. well guess what a lot of the people go back to the website and there's not going to be a plan because she doesn't actually have one. liz: all right jason chaffetz, a pleasure always to have you on. good to see you. >> thanks, liz. >> my prayer for today is that open hearts and open minds. i can't tell you how many times we've seen violent acts taking
5:14 pm
place in our restaurant. i can not tell you how many times i've heard from our district attorney that we've reduced charges. we're letting them off. liz: all right this is really heartbreaking and emotional testimony today from crime victims and families speaking out on capitol hill. it happened in d.c. today. coming up, we're going to show you more from that hearing and why critics say the media is getting it wrong, saying that us crime claiming that crime is going down. seattle radio host jason ranted is here to react we're bigging in, also, tonight, accusations of yet another gang taking over yet another building. this time, in texas. it's so bad they had to shut that building down. he's wondering what's happening to america and why is there not more outrage about it? meaning trump and gop lawmakers have been loudly ringing the alarm bells about this. plus, we got more on the anniversary of 9/11 and this.
5:15 pm

mmm! the more you know. >> these violent crimes and acts that happen in our restaurants and within our homes, st. paul was my home from the time i moved there except for a short time i was in minneapolis. we moved after our car was recently stolen, house was broken into. my son's daycare in st. paul, minnesota, recently had young kids stole a car again. this happens day in and day out in our community, and nothing is being done about it. i can't tell you how many times i've listened to st. paul police officers. this man has been arrested over 50 times, brian. i'm sorry. there's nothing we can do. he got back out. came back. burglarized us again, got back out, within 24 hours i'm told, and burglarized us again.

so we can talk about data. we can talk about how you can manipulate data. we can talk about political parties. none of that means anything to me. what matters to me is that my community is safe. liz: that was a voter from minnesota testifying about violent crime today. joining us now, seattle talk radio host jason rant dis: david muir was wrong last night, and david muir says crime is going down based on the fbi's national crime data that reportedly the fbi does not trust because it's missing so much data. jason the data do not include more than 6,000 law enforcement agencies and police precincts that do not report crime data into the fbi. that's a big one-third of the nation's 18,000 police agencies. david muir really botched it last night. >> he really did, and it was disingenuinous because even if you were to look at the data and
11:42 am
manipulate it to say violent crime is down, yet technically it's down if you compare it to the historic highs that it hit, because of criminal justice reforms that were passed in 2000. now, the only reason why you're starting to see those numbers actually go down is because the cities that defunded the police, or banned vehicular pursuits or said we weren't going to put bad guys in jail, they reversed course and they almost immediately started to see the actual results. liz: you know, the justice department's national crime victimization survey shows a gigantic increase in violent crime from 2021 to 2022. show kamala harris' tweet back in 2019 saying, end cash bail, when she was a senator from california. you know, why an abc moderators didn't ask about that and her inflammatory past statements like the deadly 2020 riots should not stop or her tweets to help bail out 2020 rioters?

>> yeah, because it would have actually helped donald trump and they were very clear they had no interest in doing that. they were there to sabotage him and made it difficult for him to get out of the debate to make all the points he needed to because he had to worry not about going against kamala but going against the two moderated or s. when it comes to crime they have been pulling this nonsense for the longest time and they don't want to shine a spotlight on the fact that it was their policies that were to blame for the crime crisis and yet, they have the audacity to try to take credit for when the numbers start to go in the right direction, because we reverse course. liz: jason rantz, always a pleasure good to see you. >> thank you. liz: again we're staying on that. where were the questions last night about jobs, inflation, the policy detail, the policy to debate to fix all that? real policy that will help americans, senator mike braun is with us. he's going to react next. >> i want to talk about the peaceful transfer of power. you told your supporters to march to the capitol. are you now acknowledging you

priorities like jobs and inflation, look who here, senator mike braun, why was kamala harris given a safe space by abc moderators on the weakening u.s. jobs market. >> well, that begs the question of many other things, jobs that are over reported, each period, are made up so much of government jobs, unreported feature of the sugar high economy is a federal government is now a roughly 25% of our gdp, where it has never been more than 20, you are over reporting the jobs. the jobs that were getting most of are government jobs and money that we borrows and spend to help particular industries, picking winners and losers, mainstream economy has not benefits, she talks about helping malbusinesses -- small businesses, she would be a

disaster for those jobs. i elizabeth: creating higher inflation. >> yes, the government jobs are not producing anything, they are putting money into the economy american public needs to know that mostly, what they have engineered over last 4 years is bigger government, a very weak mainstream economy, you can't measure it by what wall street is doing, and jobs, when you misreport them most of them are government jobs. elizabeth: when you talk the bls statistics and headline grabs initial job number then they quietly cut that number. nearly 820 thousand j jobs just vanished, we have each revisions, we're counting i think 18 out of last 24 months of revisions to down side. when you look at other household survey, it looks
