gave update on second assassination attempt against former president trump. in just over two months. let's get right to fox news david spunt standing by live with in washington with the details. reporter: hey, liz. wrapping up a news conference in west palm beach, florida. the suspect facing federal firearm charges, two of them. but i'm told more charges are from the justice department, meaning federal charges are likely coming. these two charges are the quickest way to keep him behind bars to not get out of custody. they're possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with oolite rated serial number, one that's scratched off. records place him at the scene for the chain link for almost 12 hours, 1:59 a.m. to 12:59 p.m.. here's ronald roe. >> we are evaluating that threat and need to rach it up

additionally, we will. reporter: according to producers in court, he was las vegassing and looking around and he said he understands the cha charges d more charges are possible and secret service, justice department and fbi all taking different pieces of the pie. fbi investigating ralph himself and told his cell phone, a camera at the fbi lab in quantico and fbi speaking to family, friends and colleagues in north carolina and hey where he once lived. the secret service, liz, no surprise looking in the mirror and doing self-reflection about how this happened and several u.s. officials told fox news point-blank the service is not staffed to handle donald trump the way that they handle joe biden or kamala harris. the reason joe bidenen is the sitting president with nuclear launch codes and kamala harris is second in library to that position. at that news conference, acting secret service director said it may be time to rip up the secret

nominee. he's also got threats, not just domestic but also from foreign adversaries including from iran. so he should be at the highest level that there is. whether that mirrors the presidential level or exceeds that, it doesn't matter. it should all be based on threats and because it's not, they're missing thicks on the outer perimeter. we are having the same conversations right now that we have in butler, pennsylvania. recording the outer perimeter and we can't always rely on this inner perimeter detail that's assigned to the former president full-time. to catch this every time, they're being set up for failure. the secret ser needs to build deterrence and the outer president covered and no way he should have been embedded for 12 hours waiting to attack. liz: he reportedly waited for 12 hours outside of a golf course. that's a long time to be at the

perimeter and is it odd is that he knew trump would be at the golf course? we're hearing it was not on the public schedule because if it wasn't for the secret service agent, that one guy that spotted the gun, trump may be dead. lawmakers like elise stefanik asking how can he get that close to trump, about 400 yards away with assault rifle and scope. >> that's the question and in terms of how did he know to go there and trying to gain probabilities. that is even it was an off the record movement, it was still a favorite location of the former president to go golf. any time he was in west palm beach and it's predictable and whether it's on the record or off the record, predictability is the adversary of the secret service. what he did was set up and lied and wait opportunistic the off chance that the former president would come. and let's make no mistake about it, whether it's a current president or former president, with the protection that the

5:10 pm
before president trump's first attempt on his life, biden tweeted, i want to get his words correctly and not sit and summarize but "donald trump is a genuine threat to the nation and threat to our freedom and democracy. he's literally a threat to everything america stands for". then couple days before the attacks on trump's life. putting in a bullseye. weeks after first attempt, tim walz said trump was a threat to democracy and fascist that will put people's lives in danger. we saw from kamala harris a number of times and look at twitter feed and call him a threat to democracy and a so-called dictator who threatens the lives of americans. look at jazmine a second time before the atemporal integration, it was a threat to him domestically and even after the attempt on his life, democrat leader posting on x demanding that supporters stop the extreme maga republicans.

this is a democrat following we've got to chill out. they've got to treat people as if they're humans and not spark this kind of violence, which we're seeing again and again and again and it's been going on sings let's face t the republican election back in 2016. liz: let me stay on that for a second. you're nailing it and hitting it on the head. we've retracted and dug into it. deputies want to impeach trump before he sat down in the oval office and talking about impeaching him in 2016 and launched 12 impeachment resolutions about six months in on things like the monument clause and businesses and stormy daniels they're going to investigate and no high crime in misdemeanor and doing ten years of awful anti-trump rhetoric for a very long time and it is poison and now there are four investigations into the aidoo tempted assassinations and secret service, fbi, congress, and now florida governor ron desantis saying wait a second, we're not having it.
5:12 pm
florida is going to do its own investigation because basically the state of florida doesn't trust what the federal government is doing, the secret service improbing the first assassination attempt and now this. >> absolutely. i'm glad florida is doing it and i think more attention should be on this. it's shocking when you see some of the media just having kind of fyi on their websites and not the lead story because you know, liz, if this was happening to a democrat happening to biden and harris you'd see it everywhere. they would be putting together the dots but they're not. they're completely ignoring it and glad that florida is going in and having their own investigations and it's pretty sad when you have seen the doj and other federal agencies that have been so politicized and talk about the threat that trump causes, the threat that he poses, it's not to democracy, it's not to americans, or to american values, it's to the bureaucracy that is used to getting its own way and democrats feed into it.
