historically bizarre higher-than-expected half point rate cut. bigger than economists expected. it's usually reserved for downturns or recessions when inflation is still stuck by the fed's 2% target. criticism pouring in. are we in a downturn? was this political? was it because three democrat senators led by elizabeth warren pressured the fed to go big? will this help kamala? it's just a month and a half to the election. let's get this straightened out with edward lawrence. he's at the federal reserve with more. edward? reporter: well, liz it was the first move the federal reserve made in eight consecutive meetings and this was a big one. the markets asked for it and then they finished in negative territory today. the fed chairman says they needed to make a deeper cut today to keep the labor market stronger, he says, this was timely, hinting they had seen all of the data or have they seen all of the data today in july, they would have cut at that meeting . the fed chairman says politics played no role. >> how do you respond to the criticism that will likely come that a deeper rate cut now before the election has some

political motivations? >> yeah, so you know, this is my fourth presidential election at the fed, and it's always the same. we're always going into this meeting in particular, and asking what's the right thing to do for the people we serve, and we do that and we make a decision as a group and then we announce it and that's always what it is. it's never about anything else. nothing else is discussed. reporter: he went on to say the cut starts a recalibration for federal funds rate. federal reserve members told me they see the eventual target between 3.5-4% which begged this question. reporter: it's basically an entire generation experienced dear auto or near-zero federal funds rate, and something heading in that direction again. whats likelihood the cheap money is now the norm? >> my own sense is we're not going back to that but honestly we're going to find out but, you know, it feels to me and

the neutral rate is probably significantly higher than it was back then. reporter: this was the last meeting before the election. the fed has forecasted now, two more rate cuts if they go 25 basis points, and they have two meetings left. liz: edward lawrence thank you so much, edward appreciate it. let's get to wall street pro scott martin. he's a real good expert on the economy from kings view wealth management. scott this is a really bizarre rate cut. i want to dig into it. are we in a downturn because these size rate cuts are usually reserved for recessions. we're in a slowing job market. how do you read this? >> i read it as confusing. i agree e-mac. i think you said well. the economy is so great. we're doing so well. yet, the economy needs a 50 basis point rate cut? and maybe e-mac another 50 by the end of the year so we have two more meetings left we will put two more cuts in the barrel hear so i don't get it. i think this is totally political. it's a turn from the fed because jay powell has been one to go to his own drum or his own beat, one to take in the data and kind

polls. it's not by a lot but this is after months of the media not grilling her as expected, and voters are looking to see which candidate is truly a change agent, ford. >> yeah, that's exactly right. look trump is up on harris nationally by 2 points and actually up with independents by 9 points in terms of favorability so if you're donald trump, these are really really good polls and not only that this is the highest point he's been in favorability in either even over 2016 and 2020. liz: so gallup also finds kamala harris is dropping with in voters, only 30% have favorable rating versus 44% of independents saying that for trump. i mean, gallup says trump is currently viewed better at a similar point in either the 202d then when you look at the swing state polls, it is neck and neck. ford, trump mentioned this at a recent rally. he is saying that this reminds him of what happened in 2016 where people came out of
5:11 pm
the polls in the exit polls and said that it's none of your business who i voted for. do you think people are just not telling the pollsters how they really feel and they are going to vote for trump in the booth? >> yeah, look. i do. he's polling better right now than he actually did in 2016 and we know that he tends to outperform the polls. i think the greatest thing in the swing state polls is you find these up by 3 in georgia and if trump wins north carolina, georgia and pennsylvania he will be the 47th president of the united states. liz: okay ford o'connell thank you for your analysis. good to see you. >> thank you, liz. >> several things being said shouldn't be said. all democrats in congress -- >> trump has been called hitler, called a nazi. liz: you know, those are trump supporters in michigan speaking out about how stupid the rhetoric has been against former president trump. we don't use that word lightly. but it has been intense and not very sophisticated coming up we'll take you live to his rally on long island, new york. authorities now on high alert after that second assassination

attempt. plus, trump campaign senior advisor corey lewandowski is here. there he is, he's going to give us insights on why the former president is saying there are holes in his security. also tonight, former president trump debuts a brand new tax break idea. you know what kamala harris is thinking? >> we will have no tax on tips, something which they copied four weeks after i said it. she got up and said no tax on tips. liz: how trump's now tax break idea could help taxpayers, you know, will kamala try to copy this some economist here to react and plus a new report on where exactly migrants have settled in the united states. how many are in counties biden won or trump won? what does this mean for the election? we've got new york congressman mike lawletter here and also democrats still with not dial back their own rhetoric. >> how many more assassination attempts on donald trump until
5:13 pm
president and vice president and you take a different word to describe trump? >> i actually completely disagree with the premise of your question. the question that you're asking liz: why are you disagreeing the evidence is out there. radio host jason rantz is here to react and also our timeline of the democrats intend to push their attack to get trump. it's going on eight years now, starting before he sat down in the oval office. we're going to talk about how this has broken historic norms and setting bad precedence for america. tomi lahren is here with us we've got a lot of news stay with us we've got more after the break. >> we all know kamala harris. her quotes, where she says, trump, "trump is a threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms." she said this over and over again. not just before the first attempt. even after the first attempt on president trump's life, there might have been a two or three-day pause and then they went right back to it, in fact

liz: welcome back. former president trump, he's about to start his rally in just a couple of hours. thousands are already lining up in nassau county, long island here in new york. security measures are tight after two attempts an his life. let's take you live to the scene. fox news bryan llenas standing by, with the story. whatwhat's going on there, bria? looks happy and excited there. reporter: liz, good evening, yeah, there is expected to be 16,000-plus folks here at the nassau colosseum for tonight's rally. the former president making a stop in manhattan just moments ago about the last hour at the only bitcoin bar in the city called pub key and there he was asked about the teamsters union and the fact the rank-and-file voted overwhelmingly for him and he called that a great honor and a big thing that the teamsters
5:20 pm
union decided not to formally endorse a democrat for the first time since 1996 despite the fact the rank-and-file is for the former president. you mentioned high security here at the rally in new york. airtight, given the latest assassination attempt begins the former president. a lot of questions as to why the former president would choose new york to hold a rally and not a battleground state. the campaign says look, this is the number one media market in the country. this will play out in all the battleground states and then some but also it's key that new york has three congressional districts that are up in the care. they were flipped by republicans in 2022 and now republicans are trying to hold those seats, including one right here on long island in nassau county. one big thing that the former president teased yet on truth social was the fact that he wanted to get rid of the salt cap of $10,000. that is the state and local tax deduction. that is a big deal for new
5:21 pm
yorkers, one of the highly-taxed states in the union if not the most highly taxed people here, besides california and new jersey. getting rid of that cap could help a lot of new yorkers so we'll see if he expands on that, liz. we'll also see if he expands more on that critical teamsters union vote 60% of their membership voting for the former president. liz: it's the blue collar vote bryan llenas thank you so much great reporting we'll be monitoring that rally throughout the show. joining us for reaction trump wore senior advise or corey lewandowski. first to the story the teamsters rank-and-file, the teamsters blue collar workers want trump, the teamsters did not endorse kamala harris. they withheld any endorsement. what is your read of that? >> well, liz the reason for that is because he's rank-and-file people to wake up every single day. they are trying to put food on their table. trying to fill their vehicles with fuel and they see what the kamala harris/joe biden, tim walz regime has done to them
5:22 pm
economically. they continue to be crushed by this economic calamity they have put us in. every single thing we go to buy is more expensive and donald trumped will take us back to where we were four, five, six, year ago when he was the president of the united states where people had more money in their pockets so the rank-and-file people, the people that get up everyday and go to work want donald trump back in the white house and that's why he won this vote by some 27% of the rank-and-file members. liz: let's move on to this. so former president trump said his personal security detail that they have been asking for more manpower for a while now, even before the first assassination attempt on his life in butler, pennsylvania. what do you make of the acting secret service director saying that the secret service's moving to increase manpower and already enhanced security posture. what's going on? >> well liz it's a little late don't you think? we've now seen two assassination attempts on his life. one-time he had a bullet strike his ear. the second time only because of the hard working men of the secret service and women, did they prevent that from
5:23 pm
happening, but look. on multiple occasions, particularly like when you see evenings like tonight. 60,000 people are turning out to see donald trump tonight. 16,000 people of those are going to have the opportunity to get inside that arena but that requires secret service to provide other things, and they have been very good at making sure they are protecting the president of the united states and the vice president of the united states and that's fine but you can't short donald trump from the opportunity to have a safe successful rally and so now they are finally giving him the resources necessary. liz: you know, florida is, they are doing their own state investigation. they really want to throw the book at this second attempted assassin. the golf course perimeter has been unsecure for a while. its own photographers could get in there and take voters of the trump. they want the president to be safe. let's get your reaction to this sound, corey. an american nurse, chelsea walsh, told jesse watters she
5:24 pm
knew the second attempted assassin were in ukraine together, she says, and she says he often talked about harming world leaders and that she had red flagged him to the department of homeland security. she called the government and the government never called her back. corey let's listen to this. watch. >> all the time. he wanted to kill most world leaders. i don't remember. its been over two years since i was with him but i definitely he always talked about wanting to kill putin, kim jong-un, he developed plans. he talked about biden and trump, i can't wreck exactly what he said, but he did speak frequently about harming world leaders. liz: okay, so that guy's out there right on the radar screen, corey, and then he's at the golf course for 12 hours where this security of the perimeter was not, you know, basically watched. i mean, when you were with the former president, when you were out there, how do you see the security detail? is he safe? >> he has to be kept safe.
5:25 pm
liz: but is he safe? do you see it? do you see holes in security? >> i'm not a security expert but i mo know the men and the wn on the plane will lay their life down to protect him. but what chelsea alerted the opportunity to of this lunatic is not the only person whose done that. look when he came back into the country they flagged him as well and never followed up and that's why we're in this situation on sunday. liz: corey lewandowski thanks for joining us good to see you again. >> thank you. >> it's just funny that biden and kamala are not getting any a terms towards them. it's only trump. >> someone is going to destroy the country and going to ruin democracy. i think it's just the language that is put out there. liz: okay, you know, this is an election unlike any in modern us history. we're seeing more and more trump voters speaking out like those in michigan you just saw,

liz: you know, welcome back. there's a big backlash growing with vice president harris talking about how she grew up a middle class kid and an opportunity economy. there's a lot of taxpayer funded bail outs in her plan and crit beings say this is primarily going to be just about you having to pay for her agenda. not letting the us economy do it on its own and grow. let's get right to hillary vaughn with the story. hillary? reporter: good evening liz. well vice president harris is envisioning a new economy under her presidency, an opportunity economy, but a common fix in a lot of her economic plans include taxpayer-funded give-aways. >> the price of groceries still too high? yes. do we have more work to do? yes. and i will tell you, i do

believe that i offer a new generation of leadership. my plan is that no family, no working family, should pay more than 7% of their income in child care. >> we're going to eliminate medical debt from being on your credit score. part of my plan under my opportunity economy is to give first time home buyers a $25,000 down payment assistance. reporter: republicans say harris is focused on spending her way out of a problem she's already spent herself into, blaming out of control government spending for rising inflation, putting the crunch on everybody's budget. >> we went federal bureaucrats in washington to determine what the cost of eggs and milk is in your local store? it's crazy. president trump labeled her as a marxist in the debate and it's an actual description of her philosophy. reporter: because harris' economic plans rely on new government spending it's up to congress to ultimately get it done. if she tries to act on her own she could be challenged in the supreme court. liz? liz: always terrific reporting
5:34 pm
from hillary vaughn, thank you so much hillary. now, the election battle is about whose got the economic policy. former president trump, he just debuted yet another tax break that he would back if he is re-elected let's get right to trend macro chief investment officer don luskin. he's so smart about the economy. don it's great to see you so trump now says he would lift the cap on state and local deductions beyond 10,000 that it is now. it's going to expire that cap at the end of 2025. along with the other trump tax cuts do you think this one makes sense? even senator chuck schumer is going along with it. >> well what do you mean even senator schumer? this is basically a bail out for new york and i'll bet the california senators are for it too. this is a bailout for high tax blue states. this allows the ability to deduct the high state tax rates, the high property tax rates, makes it possible for those governments to spend
5:35 pm
and spend and spend and become even more disastrous examples of the liberal marxist paradigm for governance, so i think it's a huge mistake for trump to endorse this. i think it's kind of a, you know, a form of pandering. it's pandering for kamala harris to have all the give-aways you reporter just talked about. she's imitating trump by wanting to cut taxes for people who make tips, and now, trump is imitating cumulatives by saying he wants to restore the deductibility of state and local taxes, a deduction that goes primarily to democrats. big mistake. liz: so we hear you loud and clear. it's aiding and a betting really fiscal wrecklessness in these states. you know, she talks about an opportunity economy. it seems devoid of any substance or detail. it's really masking her tax hikes and federal price controls too. i mean, economists are saying she would do basically price gouging of americans, with her tax hikes. let's get to what your reaction to trump is talking about.
5:36 pm
we want to see what you have to say about kamala wanting a tax on unrealized paper gains. we've never seen that. it's an unconstitutional wealth tax. let's listen to trump here, watch. >> unrealized capital gain tax. that will drive every business out of the united states. so what that is is, i don't know how they can possibly administer it. the only ones that make money are appraisers and accountants, so they are taking a business, might not have a lot of money but might have great land and valuing it and what was it this year compared to next year? you got to put down a value and then you got to go out and have to pay tax even though you haven't sold anything. it's the craziest thing i've ever heard. i want people to pay fair taxes and all that but she's going to be raising your taxes to 50, 60, 70%. liz: what do you think, don? even europe thought it was so bad they said no to this. what do you think? >> oh, it's just ridiculous idea and you know, trump's

reporter: great to be with you tonight, liz. 45,000 workers could walk off the job in less than two weeks time if they don't get a new contractor they work at the port container, the container ports across the east coast and the gulf coast. that could have major consequences for the economy and the everyday consumer when you consider that roughly 43% of all us imports are handled by ports along the east coast and the gulf coast, and a strike, liz, could mean higher shipping costs when prices are already elevated due to the conflict in the red sea. shipping costs are currently 162% higher than they were last and a strike could mean that they go even higher. as you can imagine business groups are very concerned. the national retail federation sent a letter to president biden yesterday that was signed by 177 business groups.
5:39 pm
they write this. "it is imperative that the administration engage with the parties. a strike at this point in time would have a devastating impact on the economy especially as inflation is on the downward trend" and as you mentioned, liz, the white house says president biden will not take action to stop a strike, but it also seems like talks are at a standstill now. there are no further negotiations scheduled. the employers say they want to get back to the table to continue those negotiations, and the bargaining process, but the union says they expect a landmark deal, even if they have to strike on october 1 to get it, hopes for an opportunity to avoid this strike, liz, seem like they are fading away. liz: what a story great reporting as always from wonderful lydia hu. now this. a new generation. that's what kamala harris has been talking about when she's been the incumbent for nearly four years. a new way forward more of the same. again saying you grew up middle

>> he's absolutely correct. listen nobody wants an ev mandate. we still don't really have a clear answer from kamala harris herself on how she actually feels about an ev mandate or any of the other tenants of a green new deal she once co-sponsored and supported. i think that's why a lot of auto workers and a lot of working americans especially union members are very concerned about a kamala harris presidency because they don't really know where she stands and they fear that because she hasn't really given us any indication of where she stands definitively they don't know what will happen to their industry but liz, ev's are great. i think a lot of people want to own one but the reality is that a lot of americans can't afford an ev not just because they are expensive but also because of the reliability issues. i live here in tennessee. if you try to take a road trip with an ev you'll have a difficult:getting from point a to b. that's the reality of the matter we don't have the infrastructure

to support a mandate. right now the gas-powered and fossil fuel powered vehicles is where the demand is and you can't mandate your way out of that. liz: this is such a debacle, you know, why not do hybrids first? why go all in on electric cars? ernst & young is finding only about a third of customers want to buy an electric car down about 40% versus last year. look at the car makers pulling back on making ev's so this is disaster for bidenomics. they said we're going to takeaway your gas cars and force this down everybody's throats final word. >> right just look at california, as an example. of course they do have what they want to enact as an ev mandate in the coming years and they have nowhere near the infrastructure to support that when you have hot days, you can't run your vehicle. in fact your governor tells you you have to stifle your energy use. take a lack at california. don't california you're america my new friends. liz: that's a new line from tomi

let's welcome to the show seattle talk radio host jason rantz. jason, what we are finding are serious departures from d.c. norms by the democrats, and it involves powerful and well-funded democrats super packs and billionaire donors to go after him. they have been digging and digging and digging to find crimes to do a takedown of trump. are you worried they created dangerous precedence here that could be deployed against other people? >> i mean, yes. if th they can do it to donald trump they can do it to anyone. i suspect this is going to be maybe a little bit more directed towards just donald trump, but i don't think it's going to completely go away. look they have been very clear they see donald trump as the enemy. they see him as this threat not to democracy but actually to their power so i think they are going above and beyond what they might normally tok try to destroy an enemy but to be clear i think if this were any other republican they be going after

that person, perhaps maybe not as much as they are going after donald trump, but i do think that this would still be i think it should be seen as a direct threat on anyone who may want to get into a position of power and actually do some good if it actually conflicts with what democrats want. liz: constitutional lawyers and scholars like alan dershowitz, he wrote a whole book at this , that this is an unprecedented push. a twisted and likely violated due processed rights, right to counsel, free speech and trump's other constitutional rights. trump is not a politician. he's a real estate guy. we've known him here in new york city and seen footage of him saying fake news, dating back to 1970. he said that to mike wall as, other people here in new york. he's known to new yorkers. so when he said things like i'm going to drain the swamp, did that basically put democrats on fire and to like nancy pelosi to say you know what? we're going to stop him and they have been doing that now for eight years, and they are still doing it. >> i think it's even worse than

that. i think they just see this guy as an outsider someone whose not like them, someone who is an entertainer and just a real estate mogul. that's who they see this person as , and he's not supposed to have this position. he was never supposed to get into the white house and he certainly was not supposed to get in a second time and i think the very idea someone who was an outsider might gain that kind of power and influence over the american people and then ultimately over politics, is something that they are not going to be able to just cope with, and that is the direct threat that i think donald trump poses these folks. liz: jason rantz its been a pleasure thank you so much. next up this is a really interesting report from bloomberg on where exactly they have settled in the united states so how many are in counties biden won? how many are in counties trump won? what the does this mean for the election? we have new york congressman like lawler reacting next, stand by. >> i've got elected in 2016 because of the border, but
