strategy tonight. but first this, let's take you right to haifa, israel. fox news international correspondent mike tobin standing by live9 with the update on iran's missile attack on israel. mike, what do we know now? >> reporter: well, we know that there's going to be a response, certainly one promised by israel. we just heard from prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying iran made a big mistake, and they will pay for it. that big mistake, this unprecedented ballistic missile attack. some 10800 -- 180 ballistic missiles making the 12-minute trip here to israel in a couple of different waves, most of them intercepted. some of them crashing down in central and southern israel, the shrapnel also crashing down causing some impact. we just had confirmation from an idf spokesman that one of the pieces of shrapnel crashed down in the town of jericho and killed a palestinian man. but with all of the israeli
5:04 pm
leadership, they have a unanimity of message right now, and that is simply this second missile attack coming from iran cannot go unresponded, and they will respond in the time and place of their choosing. one of the latest to speak is u.n. ambassador danny danon. >> tell you one thing, it will be noticed, it will be painful. and i think that the people of iran who are watching us understand that it's not against the iranian people, it's against the radical regime that dragged the iranian people into this situation. >> reporter: the iranian leadership continues to taunt, the supreme leader, ayatollah khamenei, just sent out a tweet in hebrew clearly meant for the people of israel reading the blows of the up uprising front will become stronger and more painful on the worn and rotting body of the zionist regime. now, all of this follows a long prom from iran to respond --
5:05 pm
promise -- particularly to the death of the hamas leader who was killed in tehran. they promised then to respond, but they had already fired a missile barrage, and like this one, it didn't really have much consequence. since that time there has been the exploding pager attack, the walkie-talkies, the assassination of hezbollah leader hassan nasrallah and the entire command echelon of hezbollah. and iran hasn't been able to respond. what they have done so far is to repeat the otherwise harmless missile attack at it israel. so they've clearly provoked the situation, but they haven't necessarily harmed israel. and one of the things that israel did yesterday is they launched a strike on yemen and made the point of saying it was the same distance to tehran. so as you have these israeli leaders promising that there will be a severe retaliation, they go back to that and say they can travel the same distance to the strike wherever they want. liz? elizabeth: mike tobin, great

for 20 the years on the war on terror, if they understood that, iran would have never done what they did tonight. 181 ballistic missiles, liz, is the most that's ever been shot -- elizabeth: yeah, and now we're hearing possibly a hyperconnick -- hypersonic missile. even "the new york times" in 2019 said that trump's sanctions on iran meant hezbollah fighters would not be getting paid. the biden-harris white house acts like they're the smartest people in the room, but they've given tens of billions of dollars in sanctions relief to iran, and this is what iran has been doing. secretary of state just said we are geopolitically stronger and jake sullivan said last year the mideast has been the quietest it's been in two years -- two decades, rather. you know, senator, this is a catastrophic failure of this biden-harris white house in the mideast, and now we've got multiple if october surprises. now at least 142 dead, entire towns wiped off the happen from

hurricane helene, millions of homes and businesses without power. you know, trump went quickly to the southern states and, you know, georgia. joe biden hasn't gone yet. he's going to go tomorrow. he was at the beach. kamala harris hosting fundraisers in california. when you see all this -- by the way, let's show the footage of kamala harris refusing to take questions about fema relief efforts. she's accused of staged photo ops. these are multiple october surprises and chaos and disorder. it's going to hit the vice presidential debate tonight. >> right. well, what you're seeing a is a crumbling of a fake leadership role that kamala harris and joe biden has been putting out. they've been saying words thinking the american people will believe what they say, but what we're seeing is the cards are falling. you're seeing it in the middle east, your seeing it in our -- you're seeing it in our energy prices, their lack of leadership and disaster -- what you saw with president trump is he immediately took a leadership role because it's who he is. he showed up and he started

actually making things take place. even contacting elon musk and saying, hey, can you pout put starlink up? we need connectivity. they can't reach people. we don't even know if they need help because cell phone taurus are knocked down. that wasn't biden or harris making that phone call, that was president donald trump making those phone calls. elizabeth: yeah. you know, that was the beginnine biden canceled a government contract for starlink earlier this year, $900 million u.s. government contract for elon miss elon musk's -- elon musk's starlink. we know fema has been putting up links for people in these half dozen states when you see what's going on, the beginning of trump's comeback, his stunning comeback, was when he went to to east palestine, ohio. that was the beginning of his turn-around. he is talking about showing up. they're not showing up. they're saying we're helping, but they're not showing up.
5:11 pm
>> well, part of your job is showing up. and what you're seeing is true leadership too. i tell this story quite a bit, liz, about how donald trump showed up for my wife and i when my if son got hurt. it's because he cares about people. he shows up in these places not because he's trying to be a politician, it's because he truly cares, and that's what a leader does. elizabeth: all right. senator mull opinion, thank you for joining us -- mull ifen. we've got another major october surprise, a massive strike at our east coast and gulf coast portses. it's going from maine to texas -- pores -- right as supplies are needed to help the the states hit hard by hurricane helene. nearly half, about 40% of ocean imports halted. it's expected to drive inflation and grocery prices and more much, much higher. now wall street is ballparking a major hit to the u.s. economy. let's get right to grady trimble standing by live in the port of baltimore, maryland, with more. grady, good to see you. >> reporter: you too, liz.
5:12 pm
and what you're seeing behind me, these picketing workers, i they don't want automated machinery replacing their jobs. i want to give you a look at the port here because you can see these big cranes in the background. these are the cranes that these workers would normally be operating, and at this moment they're at a standstill. we've seen some trucks pull up to the entrance here, some carrying cars. this port, by the way, one of the biggest for car imports and exports in the u.s. and these workers have blocked them. you mentioned the economic impact.
5:13 pm
by some estimates it could be up to the $5 billion a hit that the u.s. economy takes every single day that this strike lasts. and here's how some industry groups are describing how you and i could feel the impacts. >> i think the first thing americans are going to see and feel are in the grocery stores. and then beyond that you're going to see electronic components, cars, any number of building materials. things are going to be the harder to come by, and they're going to get more expensive if the strike goes on too long. so certainly businesses and consumers are going to feel the pinch. >> reporter: and that's why a bunch of industry groups representing retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and a well host of others are calling on the biden-harris administration to do more to stop this strike. they want president biden to invoke the hartley-taft -- or taft-hartley act which would essentially force these workers back to their jobs while negotiations continue, but
5:14 pm
president biden has said he doesn't believe in that law, and the white house press secretary, karine jean-pierre, reiterated today again that they're not going to invoke it. so for now what that means, liz, is this strike is going to continue, and the longer it lasts, the higher the risk that a stores across the country will be impacted. elizabeth: that's great information, grady, you know? because i think george w. bush invoked the hartley act in 2002 to stop this. grady trimble, great reporting. thank you so much. >> but look at where kamala harris is today. she's only leading by 9 points. that would be the worst democratic performance in a generation, 10 points off the mark of joe biden who, of course, won four years ago with sort of that union guy, union joe, right? she's 10points off his mark and the worst in a general ration. that was cnn reporting that polls show kamala harris is on track for the worst democrat performance in a generation with union voters. that that's the democratic voting base.

there's also this, let's get to it. americans for tax reform president grover norquist. okay, this story that commerce secretary gina raimondo -- good to see you, grover -- she's, quote, not very focused on the port strike? really? when we need those supplies for hurricane helene victims in the southern states? >> well, president biden has promised to the union bosses that they can do anything they want. he has the legal authority to say keep the ports open so that we can get aid to north carolina and the areas or that are affected and the economy can keep going. do your negotiating but don't shut down the ports. the law is made that way because you don't want people to be able to abuse these kind of bottlenecks. and biden says, i promised the union bosses they could do anything they want. they've put billions of dollars into politics in the last two two years, and biden is not going to stand with american workers around the country, he's
5:16 pm
going to be there with union leadership. elizabeth: and by now the majority of the teamsters are going for trump. you know, this is the issue too, this is all happening as the southern states are literally underwater. biden's poll numbers and harris' poll numbers have been underwater. the job market continues to slow. this friday we're looking at maybe just 140,000 new jobs, grover. the 346 month average is about1s about 116,000, the lowest since june of 2020. this is massive disorder. this is major chaos under this biden-harris white house. how how do you think that's going to hit the vice presidential debate tonight in final word. >> that will be very interesting because one of the things that walz is going to have to do, the governor of minnesota running for vice president, is defend his tax and spend policies as governor. he's raised taxes tremendously and just spent as much as a you possibly could taxing gasoline, taxing cars, tagsing middle

when -- bedford. what's your take on what's going to happen at the debate tonight? >> well, i think it's going to be an uphill battle for tim walz, frankly, because he is facing a tougher political stand scape. the risk for him is that he reinforces this perception that he and kamala harris don't stand for anything, that they don't have any concrete beliefs, that they've shifted all of them for political ec period yen city. and the fact that his personal biography has been riddled with misstatements really also reinforces that perception that they're sort of a shape-shifting ticket on the democratic side is. for vance, i think his risk is potentially coming off too aggressive when it comes the doling with someone who might look like an elder statesman on that stage next to him. certainly, i think walz has the toughest challenge. elizabeth: okay. so there's also this, i mean, jon, we've got now a wider war between iran and and israel. we've got a port strike that'll drive prices higher including for groceries.

he's been blanketing traditional media and nontraditional media alike while walz has been kept kind of in a bubble and running a really risk-free campaign just like kamala harris. vance hard already successfully prosecuted that case for donald trump. i think a he's proven to be a smart pick by trump for that reason, so tonight i do think you can expect the see vance really focus on the fact that he is running against the incumbents who have failed. elizabeth: so, jon, you sound like you're worried that the cbs moderators will be biased. >> i mean, i am generally not confident that any debate moderators are going to be the fair towards a republican candidate because i've watched debates for a very, very long time. and i think that's sort of baked into the cake. and j.d., i'm sure, is ready for it, and i'm sure he'll handle it as he because. elizabeth: great to have you both on. reminder, fox business will be airing the vice presidential debate tonight at a 9 p.m. eastern time.
