stuart: take a look at this, a tornado touched down near the florida turnpike in broward county in southern florida. that is a tornado. you can see it very clearly. southern florida, tornadoes. milton is on track to make land fall along florida's gulf coast tonight. short distance evacuations are safe but too late for residents to get on the highway and go long distance. janice dean joining us from the pox weather center. janice, tell me where is milton now and where is it going? >> it's going to make landfall somewhere along the west central coast anywhere from ft. myers up towards the tampa bay area

expecting landfall around midnight tonight and you mentioned tornadoes. that's one of the risks of the landfalling hurricanes and we have counter clock wise motion and friction with land can produce some of the tropical tornadoes and that's what's happening right now and it's a conconfirmed tornado on the wesn side and close to the eastern coast and it's getting the risk of tornadoes and that's ongoing throughout the afternoon and evening. this is the latest advisory for major hurricane making land fall between tampa and ft. myers and sarasota in the cross hairs and exact location is yet to be determined and south of the core is the storm surge what we've been talking about and devastating 12-15-foot storm surge hitting and north of that we have the heavy rainfall upwards of a foot or more on top of over 2 feet of rain they've already received in the last couple of weeks.

in the tampa bay area. do we know how many have evacuated? reporter: hi, stuart, we know a lot are leaving especially people that live along the coast and especially closer to the gulf and there are also a lot of people staying but in total, around 6 million people who live along the gulf coast of florida live in mandatory evacuation zones and they're expected to leave or have already left. here in tampa, of course, people are bracing for the potential of some of the worst impacts of the storm. we're standing on the water front where there could be as high as a 15-foot storm surge and where i'm standing now could be under water. we'll go somewhere much safer well before the landfall. in an earlier segment, we're standing just across the water from tampa general hospital where it's on an area -- island that deal withs a lot of flooding and put up fencing, a specific aqua fence and have their own power supply. they plan to stay open with their patients inside the

hospital throughout this storm. another big problem in the tampa area and out in the clear water area, city, out by the gulf, they're still dealing with debris all over the place and hurricane helene and just hitting about two weeks ago and some had debris lose and worried hitting project tiles and hurricane-force winds. stuart: disney world closing the florida theme parks earlier today and remain closed all day tomorrow. how much will that cost them, ashley? ashley: a lot. anywhere from 150-$200 million. that's according to analysts at goldman sachss saying that'll be the cost of closing disney's hollywood studios animal kingdom, magic king come and epcot and disney springs and the parks will likely stay close thursday and same reports that the closures causing park
