reeling from two doubly back-to-back hurricanes that left florida, georgia and the carolina ravaged cleanup efforts underway right now, and early assessment, fitch's estimating 32 men $50 billion in insured losses tied to hurricane milton alone president biden is pushing for more funding from congress for recovery efforts. >> i think that congress should be coming back and moving on the emergency needs immediately and the good have to come back after the election as well, it is going to be a long haul for total rebuilding it could take several billion dollars it is not good to be a matter of just a little bit. maria: this is republican lawmakers are slamming alejandro mayorkas after his shocking comments last week on fema aid running dry mayorkas force to clarify during the white house press briefing this week. >> we have the resources to respond to the immediate needs of the individuals impacted by

hurricane helene and milton, that being said we will need additional funds and we implore congress with the returns to in fact fund fema as is needed. >> house oversight committee chairman james comer calling fema to testify before congress. >> we need to have fema in front of the oversight committee because we hear reports out of money that came from joe biden and now we know that they have enough money for the last hurricane but i don't think any member of congress can tell you specifically where the majority of the money of fema goes other than it goes for disaster relief we need specifics and i don't think any government agency in the biden harris era has been very specific or transparent with where they spend their funds. maria: house oversight committee member, south carolina congresswoman nancy mace, thank you very much for being here, i
10:03 am
hope you and your constituents in south carolina are okay, how did you fare? >> we did find through hurricane milton and we did okay at the coast and from helene the upper part of south carolina still has houses with power out but were not nearly as devastated as western north carolina or eastern tennessee where a lot of our thoughts and prayers and were telling everybody to donate and help those people in need in western north carolina especially. maria: i know there has been a lot of talk about this administration using fema money, getting fema after mayorkas said it was running dry and they would not be able to make it to the hurricane season but the administration is calling it misinformation they are denying that they use fema money for illegal migrants despite the fact that karine jean-pierre said this two years ago, here it is, watch it. >> fema administrators have been

program and it's been funded to the tune of $1.45 billion both in fiscal year '23 in fiscal year 24 and there was a request earlier this year for 3 billion additional dollars for this program to house illegal immigrants, the one thing we can debate issues and policies all day long but you cannot get away with lying to the american people and i'm holding the administration feet to the fire on this, had a bill i filed a few weeks ago that would divert funds from the shelter services which is housing illegal immigrants and divert to hurricane helene victims in milton victims, anyone who needed to help keep fema afloat until we get back in congress. maria: it's unbelievable to use emergency management money for illegals, we will follow the fate of your bill while the south faces challenges with recovery efforts, national security remains a top priority ahead of the election, the d.o.j. is accusing an afghan national this week applauding

would appraise that fbi and d.o.j. for finding individual in trying to find justice here but the american people deserve answers at a bare minimum we write the checks and they pay the bills for their jobs and pay their salaries in the american people deserve answers on this. >> you of this report he was let in on special visa after the botched afghanistan withdrawal, first you have to ask yourself why was he in this country. >> and exact how did he get this immigrant visa, our office in arkham but under congressional office received inquiries about the sort of thing we have to be careful who relating into the country i have a bill that would prevent anyone coming from hamas -controlled gaza into this country because it would keep the american people safe we have to be very careful who were letting in and making sure were not openly that interested in maybe we should shutdown the

border and not everyone on the terrorist watch list. >> this is obvious, come on the fact that we have seen 350 would be terrorist, the on the terrorist watch list they have been encountered at the southern border already, i don't understand why we are not getting answers on this, you're an elected official. >> absolutely, that's why we have hearings on committees like judiciary like oversight committee and others, that's why we have these hearings in the administration or the officials won't answer questions publicly we have to subpoena them and bring them before congress, i love chairman comer's idea to bring fema to testify before congress on the oversight committee when they refuse to answer questions at the press conferences we have a responsibility to get the answers for the american people no matter an election year or not. maria: right-click on the election we reported earlier more people identified as republican then democrat according to nbc polling, more
10:09 am
americans calling themselves republican this year that's an eight-point swing from four years ago when voters who identify as democrat led by six points the first gop leading more than three decades, do you think this tells us anything about the upcoming presidential election, how are you feeling about it. >> i think it gives us more hope for the future in november but it only matters if people get out and vote, registering to vote is step one, step two as soon early voting starts to get in line and make sure your vote counts, we are encouraging everyone to get out and vote this year. if you do not vote four years ago, the time to vote is now is not just about the united states and her future it is about the future of civilization and terrorism angie hot around the world. maria: thank you very much for being here, we will be watching your work, we appreciate your time, nancy mace. a quick break, to key inflation report out this week gum problems could be the start of a domino effect

10:13 am
maria: take a look at where mark attended another busy week after we got the last two reads on inflation before the november election, consumer prices for september higher-than-expected but sloping to the lowest level since february 2021, producer prices, and is likely higher-than-expected annually but flat from the month before, the major banks kicking off their quarter earnings season friday j.p. morgan, wells fargo, bank of new york mellon beating earnings expectation, the site miss on revenue for wells fargo, j.p. morgan jamie dimon were needed by geopolitical risks calling them treacherous and getting worse, slatestone wealth chief market strategist kenny polcari, good to see you, thank you so much for being here, what you make of the market this week, any takeaways in terms of how things look for year-end? >> i think the markets have actually remained amazing to me
10:14 am
considering all the headwinds that are in front of us, geopolitical as well as economic the cpi and ppi as you mentioned came in slightly hotter than the estatestimate but trended lowern you look at a plot under broad scale, the banks crashed it they believe the numbers out of the water, it is all very exciting and we saw the market responded i actually think what the fed has managed what appears to be a soft landing there is underlying concern of what the next move will be in november. 25 basis points twice of november and december, we see
10:15 am
the short and, the yield on the ten year is around 4%, rates have gone up, they are going to test long-term resistance which is about 4.16% that would be the turning point of how investors react to rising bond yields, which i think is very interesting, rising bond yields typically reflect concern about future inflation it reflects concern about government spending an hour going to support that, it is all going to be very interesting, your point of what the good to do with rates in november or december, i actually think and rafe bostic atlanta fed president said yesterday that they do nothing in november and they let it settle in, i think 50 was aggressive in september, i was
10:16 am
thinking 325 is going to be appropriate but the 50 basis point move in september may cause them to step back in november especially considering what we saw the cpi and ppi with a little bit higher in what bond yields are telling us they are moving in the opposite direction of what the fed says they're doing in terms of lowering rat rates. >> a great point, let's get into earnings from the big bangs on friday as louisville earnings for the third quarter. >> overall were looking for about a fiber through a 3% earnings growth from where was moving into this quarter which i fully expect is going to happen we seen revisions come down the whole thing has to come down. i don't think we get to be disappointed this quarter i think they will come in line but i think you going to set us up for a better fourth-quarter into interesting e-zine in early 2025
10:17 am
while i'm bullish on the market i think this is great i think bebop to be very, very specific with individual names as they move forward i don't think this is a broad you can broadly invest the market yet to be very specific and listen to what the ceo each does about the forward guidance, yesterday and on thursday we had domino's pizza and delta air lines, they both gave very cautious forward guidance which is why saw the stock selloff, let's see how this starts to unfold in on friday we had a very bunch of good reports and see if that continues to be the case as we move through learning season. maria: always a pleasure, good to see you, we will catch up soon, thank you kenny polcari, helping hands and florida's massive recovery effort, one humanitarian group led by military veterans is heeding the

maria: recovery efforts are underway after florida was rocked by two massive hurricanes in two weeks, in a list predicting the storm across a global industry after $100 billion in damage. 120 mile-per-hour winds with 19 tornadoes repeated across the state leaving mounds of debris, team rubicon has traveled to florida to take action, veteran blood humanitarian group based out of california it helps communities with disaster relief, geordie on the ground in punta gorda is team rubicon vp of operation, good to see you, thank you very much for being here, give us a sense of what you seen on the ground. >> thank you for having us all,

great day to be a a shirt, were important punta gorda and we are seeing damage and as we move north we have several teens canvassing the area and multiple counties and we've been working in pascoe county as a result of hurricane helene and we had to do a safety stand down and the operation is getting back up and running we will see more ruth roof damage and a lot of inlet flood warning there is more to come. with milton. maria: there is more in terms of debris and terms of what, you're talking about the cleanup. >> right, obviously the cleanup, again with the end led flood warning's, there is still areas that aren't safe to go when and
10:23 am
we will going quickly when it is safe but the other thing that is not debris it is not recovery this is an emotional toll especially on a lot of floridians as you alluded to the second major storm in two weeks part of our mission that is not on our website is providing being part of the community which we are letting folks know that we are not alone in this recovery. maria: absolutely, the pictures are horrific. what is been the most stunning effects on the ground that you've seen as we read through some of the neighborhood early this morning and you saw a lot of contents from alene so i think the most impactful thing so far as the multiple hits and
10:24 am
you've got belongings and treasure that is already on the street, what little may have been saved, now is probably destroyed we've seen right now it's a multiple impacts, we have crews that are working and cutting roads in park city today as we are interviewing. i am meeting with some of the county officials will be get done. and upwards of records amount, you are talking about two major storms within two weeks in very close proximity. that is tough. that is tough on the psyche and
10:25 am
the emotions. maria: i think that's a great point the emotional impact what do you think people need most right now. >> it varies, there are some parts in recovery and they may need some of the fema assistance with the emergency cash program in emergency relief program, others as were doing in some parts of florida they'll need large trees cut off their driveways and sidewalks trying to make their home safe so they can start the recovery process, it is really not a one-size-fits-all, if you well know it depends on where you are in this stage, but we try to do team rubicon in what we do is fill the gap in bridge the gap of what's needed at that point that we can bring to the table, disaster survivor and they need a hundred things, we may bring ten of those, we want to bring partner organizations with us
10:26 am
