larry: donald trump at the chicago economics club today proved that he can deal with a hostile interviewer and number two, he's got a very good pro growth economic plan and that's the key part. and number three, we're going to switch over to liz macdonald right this moment. liz: that was entertained and it was like trump was schooling him. it was fun to watch with you, larry. thanks for a great show and welcome to the evening edit, everybody. i'm elizabeth macdonald.

5:04 pm
that of course took center stage at the economic club of chicago event here. it also will be a main focus for the former president when he takes the stage at that rally in atlanta. the former president took questions from bloomburg editor in chief and what was interesting about this event is that the audience was quite receptive to former president trump and his economic policies, but the interview itself got contentious at times. by far the biggest topic of discussion was tariffs, which he suggested would hurt our trade partners and increase the national debt and former president trump fired back making the case that tariffs would protect u.s. jobs and encourage other companies to build factories in the united states. >> because we're about growth, she's not go growth we are going to bring companies back to our country and lower taxes for companies that are going to make their product in
5:05 pm
the usa. we are going to protect those companies with strong tariffs. it must be hard for you to spend 25 you're talking about tariffs that have been negative and then have someone explain to you that you are totally wrong. >> that was a theme that came up quite a bit. take a look at our latest "fox news" power ranking polling on the economy. this combines a whole host of polls. this is "new york times" siena college poll. 43% trust kamala harris vice president harris more on the economy and 53% trust former president trump on that, the number and issue with like i said three weeks until election day. by the way we are told vice president harris was invited by the economic club here in chicago to answer questions in a similar format but the campaign has not gotten back to them. she has been busy in the blue wall swing states and the guest is now time. >> grady trimble great reporting it's always good to see grady
5:06 pm
trimble. trump is talking his ideas but, if being criticized for her new ideas. let's welcome to the show youth advisory council council cochair cjb or. let me lay it out cj. trump in the polling is turning in the best performance for gop candidates since nixon. kamala harris won wants 1 million new loans financed by taxpayers and the taxpayers would totally bailout for up to 20 grand each plus she says she wants to supposedly help black man to go into the legalize marijuana business. she now says that has been over police but didn't ask the san francisco deity and she can pick 1900 people for marijuana possession? >> she absolutely did listen thank you for having me but buts is more the same revisionist history from kamala harris and in fact she is so willing to come out here and try to win over black man by saying hey we will let you smoke some weed is
5:07 pm
patently offensive and black men aren't going to give her a pass on that. soon she struggling with voters in the economy and struggling with black voters and performing, underperforming -- with black voters's and it's been trending down since obama. she's trailing former president trump by 10 points in latest polls in the key swing states but she trails the economy and the harbor spooled trump is edging out harris with early voters by just a point. her approval rating has dropped in the nbc poll and she's now underwater. "new york times" siena poll black voters give trump a big percentage since nixon and that's more than six decades ago. why are black voters turning against kamala harris? >> i think the american people know black voters under president trump america was running as smoothly as a chick-fil-a under president biden and kamala harris we have turned into a broken mcflurry
5:08 pm
machine. it's a shame and i think the american people are sick and tired of being sick and tired and sick and tired of runaway inflation record high gas prices and they know under president trump life was far better the american economy was strong and resilient. seeing cj lets get your reaction to pollster frank luntz talking to black voters and why they are voting for john. >> the reason i'm voting for donald trump is because i want to make america great again. the last four years we have seen overpromising without a plan and when i watched the debate stage the democratic candidate vice president united states for three years and eight months and nothing that she proposed, or spoke on she had a plan attached.
5:09 pm
>> donald trump reaches them in a personal and human way. it -- they feel victimized by the federal government. they feel like they are attacked or even persecuted for being black men and they believe that donald trump understands their plight more than harris does. they seek more in trump's language in his willingness to fight and beat the system. it's the same thing with union membership with the rank and file absolutely more moving towards trump at the same moment the leadership are overwhelmingly maybe 90% endorsing harris. >> you know cj that censoring sting -- interesting stuff. showed trump's tax cuts versus kamala's tax hikes. that would hurt everybody. all voters across all cultures. what do you think? >> absolutely would hurt everybody in yesterday kamala
5:10 pm
harris came up with their so-called plan for black men but here's the deal. president trump doesn't just have a plan he has a record and under his record when he was presently experienced the lowest black unemployment rate in the nation's history. black americans of every political affiliation elevated under his administration we will see more of that when he wins come november. >> cj pearce always a pleasure to have you on and bret baier will do an interview with vice president kamala harris tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. eastern time. be sure to tune in and let's get to this story, this big about regulation, inflation and retail theft. what is kamala's plan to fix that? walgreens is shutting 1200 stores nationwide over the next few years and that's about 14% of the stores and reporting multibillion-dollar losses and government regulatory pressure. a comment on inflation retells that this is a significant developing story.

5:12 pm
poor neighborhoods when they lose stores like that but many listen to the other side and you listen to trump he said he'll bring down inflation and bringing down energy prices down to 21% that will lower inflation and lower mortgage rates and housing costs. let's listen to this. watch. >> we have more liquid gold under our feet and saudi arabia. i'm going to bring down your energy costs 50% in the first year, 50%. we are going to drill, baby, drill. you will pay 2.3 percentage for your house and you will say i love this guy because interest rates will follow as the energy goes down. >> that's an interesting link and you talked about it too that he is connecting all of that. what do you think? >> he is totally right. mass production and export of energy but it goes way beyond inflation. he is right about that but it
5:13 pm
goes way beyond that. everything in the world needs energy. if you want to make everything in the world better, make more energy. the u.s. has enough energy for everybody. do you know why it takes an outsider like trump and it should be obvious to everyone in the chicago economics club. >> what do you make of the bloomberg editor? >> he's the bloomberg editor, right? i don't know why you'd go to the chicago economics club to be interviewed by bloomberg editor but is not the chicago bloomberg club. why have a politically biased post may have an audience that smart intelligent open-minded economist that just want to know what trump's programs are. >> they want to debate. it's an important point you make sometimes they just sat around talking points and they are getting at the agenda in the policies. don luskin thank you so much it's a pleasure to see you.

herself from then tim walz going out there like a cartoon character in costume trying to be a manly man, that is not working for him, you played it on your show, yesterday, she out trying to to hunt and he can't load his own shotgun. elizabeth: thank you, stephanie hamill. thank you for watching "the evening edit" on fox business, we love it when you dvr us, now early to "the bottom line" we know that dagen and sean are fired up. dagen: you said edify. elizabeth: i did. dagen: thank you, e-mac. >> to me the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff, it
