lauren: up two points from september up two months in a row, builders are encouraged by easing inflation and mortgage rates. election remains a wildcard so say the builders, tomorrow we will find out how much they are building. stuart: thank you very much indeed. now this. three weeks until the election, kamala harris finally sat down for a real interview. she's down in the polls, lost momentum, needed to get back in the game. i watch that interview, i watched it twice all the way through. i don't think it worked for her. yes, her supporters are cheering, pleased at her feisty performance and love the way she turned every question into an attack on trump but that's the knee-jerk reaction of supporters desperate to see their candidate go on offense, desperate to make donald trump the issue, desperate to concentrate on what they believe are his fatal flaws but many investors want more than that and didn't get it.

harris did not reveal herself, she covered up on all the big issues, the border, trump's fall. when did you notice biden's declined, she said joe biden is not on the ballot. what kind of answer is that? bret baer pushed and harassed turned it around to question trump's stood blue. throughout the campaign harris was asked how she would be different from joe biden. bret baer asked how would you turn the page? no answer. another one. does harris owe an apology to families of young women killed allegedly by migrants? no direct answer but when pressed she again turned it around to attack trump. are you okay with using taxpayer money for gender reassignment surgery, no answer. she said please said she would follow federal law but don't you have some role in shaping that law? no answer. the economy, trump will ruin it. immigration, trump is not interested in solutions. he went on like that for most of the interview and that's very revealing.

the harris campaign has been reduced to fear monitoring. worry about the danger of trump. harris promised to begin the interview at 5:00 sharp. she didn't show up until 5:17. her team knew that would limit the time of the interview. they managed to cut the real interview short. second hour of varney just getting started. ben domenech with me this morning, what is your take away from the harris interview? >> my takeaways if she was trying to win over independent voters, swing voters in critical states across the midwest part of the country, voters who tune in to fox news every day she did a terrible job of it. i feel like she was doing that interview with the attitude of

simply trying to gin up more support from her own base, as if it was something she was trying to create clips that would be praised by msnbc and the like as opposed to trying to win over people who still haven't made up their minds in critical states. particularly think about people in states like pennsylvania where we know there is a population that is more winnable for her than it was when president biden was a candidate and they were soured on this whole thing, she unfortunately didn't do anything to make clear that she was going to be a different president than joe biden in any meaningful way for those voters and their families, she didn't have a message for the. citing something like nobel prize winners and the like may play well with the class that still trust the experts but in this context she needed to be empathetic, show some humility and to distance herself from many of the failures of the biden administration particularly on the border, she

did none of those things which she filibustered and we heard the same talking points we've been hearing from her for months. >> dodging questions was a feature of the whole interview. is an example of dodging a question about the president's mental fitness. watch this. >> you say donald trump is misguided. you've told many interviewers the joe biden was on his game. when did you first notice president biden's mental faculties appeared diminished? >> he has the judgment and experience to do exactly what he's done in making important decisions on behalf of the american people. joe biden is not on the ballot. donald trump is, and donald trump is. >> george clooney said in a few minutes of talking to president biden is a fundraiser he thought this was not the same joe biden. you didn't have any concerns? >> the american people have concerns about donald trump.

stuart: that was the worst answer of the night, straight back to criticizing trump. last word to you. >> i think it is an experiment to have joe biden continue to be president for the next couple of months. not sure it's a good experiment for the country but in this context she needed a better answer. none of these questions were gotcha questions, none should have come as a surprise but all the questions that should have been asked in tougher interviews much earlier in this process but the fact that she's doing it at this late stage with such low preparation and such refusal to address these obvious things she needs to in order to win is an indictment of her as a candidate and her campaign as an approach to win over any american the doesn't automatically agree. stuart: thanks for being with us today. appreciate it. kamala harris has a new opportunity agenda for black men.
