peace, suddenly seems to care about the economy. she has a terrible record on that but i take some solace as an american who wants to see the country united and growing in a positive direction but the candidates agree on what we want to have happen. the problem is one of the candidates has a terrible record on this and no credibility. i choose to be hopeful about that one aspect. stuart: you are looking for the positive and you found it to. i want you to listen to the media panic about the washington post decision not to make a presidential endorsement. >> i see this as a betrayal of the core principles of the post and also a betrayal of the practices and the principles that jeff bays owes professed. >> the malpractice and cowardice of the washington post and the legacy of that newspaper in this moment is unspeakable.

you explain why are treasury yields going up and up and up? >> there are genuine worries in the short term. they've gone through 4. 3 earlier today. could go higher. i don't think it could be there for long. there's two big reasons. we have a short-term spike while we worry about inflation. we have to get use to inflation because the fed has to inflate to get out of our debt problem. debt to gdp, 120%. we got a spending problem. in order to take care of that problem, for the last 200 years have inflated their way out of it. all roads lead to inflation so we can get ourselves out of the debt problem. number 2 is now that the interest on our debt is the second biggest line item in our

budget, social security has overtaken our military, that's another reason they have to keep rates lower. maybe not right away, we have a tour 3-month bumpy ride while we get used to these rates but we need to have a time the fed runs a little bit to take care of our debt, might be a little higher than most people are used to. we will see more of a 3% to 4% inflation as we try to get the debt under control and bring down the debt service we have to pay every year because it is not sustainable. nobody is talking about it. i try to do a little bit but people don't want to know. the red mist comes out. you can't go to washington by saying i will stop spending and trim back on your entitlements. at some point you've got to pay the piper. stuart: you can go to washington and you can say i've got your lawn musk on my side or you employ him as secretary of cost cutting and take a meat

stuart: of turnaround for the dow industrials, the dow is down sharply at a strong consumer confidence re-porridge, the dow turned around, it is up 3 points. next case, change the subject, hezbollah has named a new leader one month later. what can you tell us about the new guy? >> reporter: with no diplomatic solution on the horizon, hezbollah is doubling down on its commitment to this war appointing a new secretary-general. naim khassamwill be in charge of the group and likely a target for the israelis.

today, 50 rockets hit communities, still full of people, one hundred 50 rockets were launched with some being intercepted by israel's missile defense system continuing a strike against lebanon targeting positions after efax you a orders were issued. shifting to israel's southern front israeli forces operate in the northern part of the gaza strip and conduct new airstrikes killing militants and civilians. overnight israel's knesset passed a law that will make the united nations relief and works agency for palestinian refugees illegal in israel and limiting the group's activities in gaza and the west bank. the move is politically popular in israel, it will put a strain on humanitarian efforts for palestinians. with the northern and southern front remaining active, there are questions about if and when israelis will respond to the strikes over the weekend.

neil: stuart: israel will wait until after the election before moving forward with a cease-fire deal. how will the election sway his relapse decision? if trump wins are we more likely to get a cease-fire? if harris wins are we less likely? >> reporter: of trump wins you will have the israeli government willing to give the united states more faith, more confidence that the cease-fire or reduction in operations will lead to long-term security. it will be an acknowledgment that iran is the driving force behind hamas in gaza and the united states will treat iran very differently under a trump administration than under a harris administration. stuart: what happens if harris wins? >> they will go on more of the same and israel isn't going to accept the latest proposal, the egypt and proposal.

it slices and vices things differently but at the end of the day it will turn gaza into another version of beirut where you have a un force like the one israel is kicking out, they were in cahoots with the bad guys, un force in place, a façade of civilian control but hamas and iran are running of the place. israel won't tolerate that. harris's people like biden's people are the same people pushing to accept these bad deals and i don't think israel will do that. netanyahu doesn't have the political mandate to do that either. neil: stuart: a journalist from california was kidnapped by iran when in dubai, iran claims without evidence that he committed multiple terrorist acts. on monday they executed him. how do we deal with a regime that freely executes americans and journalists and seizes them? >> you got to start hitting them back, start with a pocket

book about let them know you are serious about this, not just this poor man who was a permanent resident. secretary of state mike pompeo has been out of office four years and has a bigger security detail than colin powell had and he was a senior figure in the 90 one gulf war and the afghan war and the iraqi war. because of the irani and his. they have these big details. they plotted to kill donald trump. they can't be allowed to do this. we need to know that we will not only go after them but go after their leaders inside iran if we have to. that the only message they understand. stuart: if trump wins we take a harder line on iran. if harris wins more of what we've got. would that be accurate? >> that is. i think trump will start with oil sanctions, it doesn't mean war right away. maybe lessening of kinetic tensions if you will in the region.

do you get the federal government to pay for migrants like you are seeing in that town? the federal government's fault opening the border in the first place, how do you get them to pay for this? >> the government is not going to pay for it. it will be those states, residents of the state end up having to pay for those programs. the state may trickle down from the federal government from federal programs but the states are largely going to be left to bear that burden. stuart: local people vote, i'm not sure they will be happy with the biden/harris team that opened the border, this is an election issue, isn't it? >> most certainly is. our border was completely dismantled because of politics. you have men and women on the front lines who want to do their jobs but there trickle
