and so forth. he's concerned about the way the defense department is going now. that's going to be controversial i guess. all though anybody knows hegseth, knows he's qualified to run the pentagon. what do you make of that, senator johnson? that's a breath of fresh air it seems to me also. >> you used the term i would apply to the people that president trump is picking smart. these are highly intent people and that's kind of the first criteria. then you need people that want to aggressively implement the president's agenda of dramatic change. i mean, the status quo is unacceptable here with federal debt and the federal government is trampling over the freedom and rights and certainly suppressing economic growth. we need regulatory relief and tax relief and he's picking people who are going to not be cautious but be bold like he is. in the end, he'll be responsible for his picks. >> larry, i'd like to speak to the pete thing because an officer of this committee. he's a great pick and got trump

down and perk first but when you combine pete hegseth that's a warrior's warrior and enlisted military of men and women looking for a leader like pete hegseth, he's not going to do it alone. he needs a good deputy and lots of operational skills that will be necessary, but this idea of a military that's so woke as to not be desired by recruits is really a problem for us. having said all of that, i think you have to remember that a lot of generals that are under some scrutiny absolute upstream to the political leadership of the services and of the joint chiefs and up to commander in chief. we need somebody like pete that can rip through all this and pick out the phonies from the loyalists, but i also don't want to be too hard on the generals themselves because i do think they're somewhat victims of really bad leadership. larry: well, okay. but there may be an executive order that would have a review of generals. this is not the first time and

0.2% in the headline number we've been watching, 0.2% and only for three months now. that's only before rounding. if you round, you see it actually went up several. it almost rounded up to slightly higher 0.3%. i bet it would have caught a lot of people's attention. larry: powell said at his press conference, he looks at core inflation, if you look at core pce deflater, i don't want to get too technical and consumer price deflater and prices never go down. i keep saying in every time i have this discussion and prices never go down. powell said if we overshoot can overshoot and shooting inflation in 40 years and undershoot and let prices fall but he won't. let trump policies might but his fed policy won't.

>> the fed is wrong, it's not falling, it's staying right where it was and i don't know why the fed won't admit this. larry: trump has counter inflationary fiscal policy and talk about elon musk, vivek ramaswamy. they're going to chop the government down in size going to be tricky. but the point is, i don't want them to be pumping up the money supply and lowering interest rates and donald trump in the next year or two has to bring inflation back. i don't want that. just as they shouldn't have pumped up last sum tore try and somehow -- summer to try and goose the economy for kamala and other thing is, you write this, i didn't know this, 81% of donation goes to democrats.

>> 19% going to the democrats. almost literally 11-1 is another way of thinking about it. it went to democrats compared to republicans and like that in 2020 as well. early election cycles, much more balanced and much lower. the fed officials were not highly politicized back in 2012, 2008, 2004. look at numbers, they're tiny and republicans and democrats are relatively evenly matched and in some years, the republicans even got more. it's now gone extreme. i don't know if this is because of a change in personnel at fed. i suspect that it does have something to do with that. they have really tried to change the numbers and believe the fed
