walters is going to speak out. but first, this: president-elect trump's nominees making the rounds on capitol hill to the gather senate support before their confirmation hearings. let's get the update right now, senior national correspondent aishah hasnie is live on cap until -- capitol hill with the stories. what's happening now? >> reporter: good evening to you, a lot of news coming many on capitol hill. so trump's pentagon nominee, pete hegseth, is currently meeting with senator steve daines. he just popped out of a meeting with senator murkowski who is a very important vote for him. he called that morning excellent and said that he appreciated her input a great deal. he is meeting with senator susan collins tomorrow. these two senators, murkowski and collins, elizabeth, are pretty moderate republicans who have a streak of an independent
5:04 pm
streak when it comes to president trump. collins tells fox news that she is going to ask hegseth tomorrow about ukraine, sexual assault in the military, combat, women in combat and the allegations that have been lodged against him again, murkowski and collins are two votes that he really is trying to ensure that he has. hegseth is making progress as well with senator joni ernst, a combat veteran and a sexual assault survivor herself. ernst is facing backlash though and threats of being primaried if she votes no to which one of her colleagues says that is just not right. watch. >> do you think joni should be pri married if she says no at the end of the day? >> no. i think joni's going through the process because it's very important to her. she'll make the right decision, and i'm ifs about that. >> reporter: so homeland security secretary nominee kristi noem made her debut on the hill today. she is going to be meeting with

5:06 pm
there are, obviously, ways that you can disrupt that is not just for the sake of disruption, but causing chaos to the detriment of the department that they are potentially going to be appointed to. i don't think we've gotten any of those the kinds of choices from donald trump. you may disagree perhaps with whether or not they have all the, i don't know, the resumé requirements of some of these positions to folks on the hill, but i think when you're talking to average people, when you give them the backgrounds of a pete hegseth or 2u8 city gabbard -- tulsi gabbardover even an rfk jr. who's probable the only one who's possibly in significant trouble, i think the average person would come out and say, yeah, this is the appropriate choices. this is why we went with trump. elizabeth: we found 49 states are going red, just one state is blue, massachusetts. voterses gave trump a mandate. they want the trump agenda. so from where you sit, does it look like the republican senators will get onboard and,
5:07 pm
you know, confirm all of his nominees? we've got the new york fed if survey, look at this. voter optimism about their household finances hit the highest level since february 2020. that was before the covid pandemic hit. small business optimism soaring, the optimism if index at the highest level in three years. business round table survey of ceos now the highest optimism in two years, jason. >> yeah. and keep in mind, these are numbers as a result of president-elect trump, right? he's not even in office yet, and i think once he gets back into the oval office and a will it -- is a little more visible than he is now which is intentional, he's not going to be delivering speeches or talking to the press every single day. but once he gets into the oval office, he takes on that position again and he does start getting in front of the american people not only do the numbers you just cited continue to go up, but i also think it puts a new sense of pressure on the senate as to whether or not they're going to bo with some of
5:08 pm
these choices. i honestly believe rfk jr.'s probably the only one who is in potential trouble because of his past comments around vaccines, for example. but i think everyone else at this point just looking at some of the insider reporting and, you know, hearing from some of these folks, it doesn't seem like there's all that much of a controversy anymore. and, again, that's including pete hegseth with joni ernst starting to clearly change her tune. i think overall he's going to have, i wouldn't necessarily call it smooth sailing because i do this i think it's important to ask all of these folks really tough questions and understand where they're coming from. but at the end of the day, i think they get the thumbs up perhaps with one exception. elizabeth: from where you sit, you don't see much of a democrat pushback. you don't see the protests in the streets of america like in the first trump term. what do you make of that? >> i think they saw this last election, and it clearly hurt their momentum or at least the
5:09 pm
momentum that they thought they had. i think a lot of folks became a little disillusioned with the fact that the they were told they were going to win this last election. and then, of course, going into the last election he did also have a lot of people that did not like kamala harris as the choice. there was the clearly a movement to either vote for a third the party or sit this one out completely. and perhaps for some even just give a protest vote to donald trump the because they thought that he was the way to send a clear message to the democrat party. think you're starting to see a significant split if between progressives and the democrats who are considered more mainstream and, frankly, they're going to have to make a choice as a party whether or not they're going to continue to amplify the voices of members of the squad, people like pramila jayapal or aoc and i'll hand to marx or are hay going to start to take their party back. they probably would have won the election if they didn't lean in for the last several years into
5:10 pm
all the woke garbage. hay probably would have won. but they chose to lean into the wokeness because a loud group of very angry, defiant, chaotic progressives pushed them into it, bullied them into it. and they paid a price. so now there's going to be a lot of in-fighting, and i think that's obviously to the detriment of their politics, which is okay with me, and to the, you know, the glee, i suppose, of republicans. elizabeth: okay. jason rapt, appreciate you so much. we'll see you later on in the show. t it's good to see you again. >> the billion dollar deficit, and you spent half our money, half of that on illegals. trump, tom homan, make a [bleep] out of this right here first. please, come here first because you know what? we gonna help you. elizabeth: chicago's minority and black voters in a world of pain. illegal aliens really hitting chicago hard. s the ground zero -- it is

5:47 pm
we need straight answers, obvious. we are concerned -- of course. we are concerned about drones and these new technologies and what it might mean for national security and the safety of the american citizen. i'm looking forward to the outcome of that hearing, and if we don't get the necessary answers there, we'll dig deeper and go to the classified -- >> reporter: any thought these might be dark programs? >> i don't -- i hope not. i don't believe so, but there's a lot of investigation going on, so we'll find out. >> reporter: we spoke with congressman jeff van drew of new jersey. he tells fox that he doesn't think the u.s. military is behind the drones and believes that it's very possible a foreign adversary is conducting surveillance. >> -- is one full decade the ahead of us. and if this shows us anything, it shows us that we need to do better. the d the od, the department of defense, is going to bring in a radar system that can better track these because right now we are deficient in our radar system to track them.
5:48 pm
>> reporter: meanwhile, new jersey governor phil murphy called for meetings tomorrow with legislators, state police and the new jersey office of homeland security and preparedness. it will be two separate briefings led by governor murphy. they will begin at 10 a.m., and we will be there. back to you. elizabeth: nate foy, great journalism, as always. thanks some. let's bring in the chairman of house homeland security, congressman mark green. congressman, thanks for spending time with us on this story. what's going on sneer what more do we know about these drones? if. >> these drones could be from anyone, a recreational user, they could be from our adversaries that are spying on our infrastructure and the layout of our infrastructure, our military. we don't know. you're right, we don't know. the problem is, is that the authorizations are about to expire, so we've got legislation right now to renew those and to expand the authorizations that allow both doj and dhs.
