doge and vivek ramaswamy and conservatives, did they just score a big win reports coming in, congress may now pull its massively inflationary spending bill as president trump just put out a statement slamming all of the pork spending. look whose here fox news senior national correspondent chad pergram was the first to break the news on this. chad, thank you so much for joining us live from capitol hill. can you tell us what's going on now? reporter: good afternoon, liz. we just got a statement here. it's on j.d. vance's twitter feed. his x feed and this is a trump/vance statement they want a new spending bill here. they want a debt sealing increase in the bill. they also oppose the congressional pay raise. they want a streamlined bill, something not as big, something that keeps the government open but they also want disaster relief after the hurricanes. there was about $110 billion in that bill for disaster relief after helene and also milton. they may pull the bill, a post on x by elon musk sent shockwaves through the capitol.
5:05 pm
house republicans were trying to see if they have the votes to pass the bill. musk posted anyone who votes yes should lose in two years, and lawmakers are scrambling. >> tweets from musk, is that complicated this? >> well, i mean, i think that there's always a lot of interest in what's happening up here, and -- >> this is more than interest. they are telling people if they vote yes they should be voted out. >> the social media world is part of our politics, and i think members have to expect that and there is a lot of hard votes in the next couple of years. reporter: now a member of the house republican leadership told fox that musk "is not helping." the lawmaker added that musk has bigger fish to fry than picking a fight with house republicans. the bill bled support from the gop when asked how many democrats the gop feeds to pass the bill, a senior aid replied, "a lot." lawmakers who had hurricanes devastate their districts are torn.
5:06 pm
>> the fact is is that look, this is a sandwich. i don't know how else to say that. we're forced into this position. they did this because they knew it would put members in this position to support it. reporter: now, some republicans could bauk and vote against mike johnson january 3rd. he can only lose one vote and still win the speakers race. republicans hope things be better under johnson, but this play went south. government funding expires saturday. liz? liz: chad pergram great reporting thank you so much. we appreciate you very much. let's welcome to the show for more from house judiciary and oversight, arizona congressman andy biggs. what exactly is going on here? are the trump tax cuts, are they getting embroiled in these spending fights? >> well they aren't related to this at all, liz. those are going to be, i don't mean questionable, they are going to be discussed and promoted through the reconciliation process, which is a completely different process from where we sit now.
5:07 pm
this is a short-term omnibus bill that the speaker put together that just hemorrhaged support. nobody liked it. nobody wanted it, but when we get to the tax package, that's a different animal all together. we will have to pass a budget and then reconcile that budget with a special piece of legislation to deal with taxes and also energy and several other issues. liz: got it but here is the problem. i mean, let me back up. congresswoman nancy mace tweeted out this last bill was 21 pages. the former one. the latest one is nearly 1,600 pages. more taxpayer dollars flushed down the drain. trump is trying to control inflation. fed researchers already said inflationary government spending fuels inflation, so the way to stop it is to as larry has been all over this , reporting it, trump has a plan to stop inflation. he needs to get the tax cuts
5:08 pm
done. so the fear is that all these spending fights in d.c. are going to swamp the push to get trump's tax cuts done because as you just pointed out, they have to do the budget spending first and then the trump tax cuts. the economy needs a trump tax cut, period. >> well amen to that and i support the tax cuts going into the first reconciliation bill. i think that's the wise way to do it, with the border, with the energy, and do that, but what happened here is the speaker, in my opinion, miss played this and this should, this spending package should have been done and completed months ago, right? but they didn't do that. so the speaker's basically tried to buy everybody in the world off with this bill, which became instead of a cr, it became an omnibus bill and you had all of this stuff in there including the much maligned pay raise for congress who doesn't deserve it because we're ones that have
5:09 pm
failed to get the budget done the way we're supposed to, so the reality is the government will have a lapse in spending which i'm actually okay with for a couple of weeks. if they did it for a couple weeks, but they aren't going to do that. the speaker said he's never doing that so he's boxed himself in and lost leverage but when we get to the reconciliation package, that's where we have to get together and everyone, i think, everyone will, we've been having meetings on that to deal with some of that, and i think we're going to actually be able to get all of the three priorities that president trump iterated, we're talking border, the tax relief, and energy. those are all necessary. liz: he's got a mandate, got it. congressman thank you so much, andy biggs thank you so much for joining us good to see you. >> my pleasure, liz, thanks. >> look at what is happening. every time there is substantive stuff to talk about in a world

5:11 pm
