president-elect trump suggested that the u.s. should take back control of the panama canal complaining about how tolls and china's influences but panama firmly rejected the idea. grady trimble is live at the white house investigating this , grady? reporter: hey, edward. so the panama canal used to belong to the united states and was controlled by the united states but gradually, until 1999, the u.s. handed over control completely to panama. well, now, the president-elect is saying if they don't lower the fees, u.s. shipping companies pay to use the canal, then we might have to force them to return it to us. this is the post on truth social that got this debate started. the president-elect writes, the fees being charged by panama are ridiculous, especially knowing the extraordinarily generosity that has been bestowed to panama by the u.s. this complete rip-off of our country will immediately stop." trump has expressed concerns over china's use of and control
5:02 pm
over the canal. china's the canal's second-biggest user behind the united states and a chinese company controls two of the five ports next to the panama canal. >> it's falling into the wrong hands. it was not given for the benefit of others by a token of cooperation but it was given to panama and to the people of panama but it has provisions. you've got to treat us fairly and they haven't treated us fairly. reporter: well as you can imagine, panama's president doesn't like this one bit. he's firing back saying in a video statement that we've translated, i want to clearly state that every square meter of the panama canal and its adjoining zone is panama's and will remain so. there's a different translation of the same statement on your screen there. the president-elect shared that quote on truth social and he said, "we'll see about that" so
5:03 pm
it sounds like he's serious about this. we'll see what happens, and the president-elect is also making a play for greenland, saying that he's interested in taking control of that territory though the foreign minister there responded trump as well, edward, saying that greenland is open for business but not for sale. edward? reporter: well, this could be part of that negotiating tactic that he uses we'll have to see what happens on january 20. grady appreciate it from the white house. thanks. so let's welcome to the show trump advisor steve moore and national taxpayers union executive vice president brendan arnold so steve, i'll start with you. the fees being charged to the u.s. companies and the u.s. military to use that is what set off the president-elect. is panama taking advantage of the u.s.? >> it sure seems like they do. i mean, i remember by the way, when the whole issue of who is going to have ownership of the panama canal was i think when jimmy carter was president back in over 40 years ago, but the provisions of this deal do
5:04 pm
say as the president said that we need to be treated fairly, because it was american workers and american money and american know-how that built the canal in the first place, and so i think trump does have a strong leg and i'll say one other thing, edward. having worked around trump and with him in the past, this is a guy who doesn't back down and i think that the end result of this is going to be that panama will have to make a deal with the u.s. and our shippers will face lower fees for using the canal. reporter: we'll see so brandon ingrabrandon,i want you to listo president trump on panama and regaining control. listen to this. >> it's falling into the wrong hands. it was not given for the benefit of others by a token of cooperation but it was given to panama and to the people of panama but it has provisions.
5:05 pm
you've got to treat us fairly and they haven't treated us fairly. if the principles both moral and legal of this magnamus gesture of giving on our follow we will demand the panama canal be returned to the united states of america. >> [applause] >> in full, quickly and without question. i'm not going to stand for it. reporter: is this a legitimate concern? what about the fees and two about the chinese influence? >> yeah, i think yes on both fronts. the fees charged to ships going through the canal can be as high as $300,000, sometimes much lower even a few bucks, but $300,000, guess whose paying that amount? of course the shippers who then pass it on to american businesses, and american consumers, so anything we can do to drive down those fees i think is a positive and as we still try to get out of this nightmare of inflation we've been experiencing for several years now. i would say panama also made a strategic mistake back in 2017 when it was one of
5:06 pm
the first countries to join china's road initiative. obviously aligning itself with china is a bad idea any time but particularly under a trump presidency it creates some tension for the united states and panama and we are the most important country when it comes to commerce, when it comes to national security to panama. reporter: steve, i want to ask you how would you go about taking over control of the panama canal knowing that the president-elect, you know, this fight might involve tariffs or economic pressure to change the fees at least, right? >> i don't think it's going to come to that, edward. i think it will be a negotiation and trump's very good negotiator as we all know and so i think we are going to see and brandon is right that these fees that are being charged are really outrageous to american shippers, and brandon it's also right that this raises the price of the goods and services that we buy as americans, but no i don't think the u.s. will take back
5:07 pm
control of the canal because i think the panama will blink. by the way he's making the same demands on canada. you mentioned greenland. what about canada? he's calling trudeau the governor of canada, so this guy plays hard ball. reporter: canada seems to be cooperating at least i talked to tom homan yesterday and they seem to be cooperating at least on the immigration front so i want to ask you this brandon. could this be another reason that the president-elect is floating that for floating that 15% corporate tax rate so if companies manufacture here in the u.s. it reduces the need to go through the canal, right? >> yeah, probably so. when you have a 15% corporate rate then we're below the average of industrialized nations so we have less of an incentive for our country, or our companies to relocate us, and we produce more and we would engage in more commerce domestically so all things be good and lessen the importance of international commerce but listen at the end of the day we're always participating in international commerce, free-trade is always important to this country so we
5:08 pm
should preserve those relationships while making our country as attractive to investors domestically and internationally as we possibly can. reporter: we know from the first administration that president-elect does like those free-trade agreements one on one with countries so now we've got canada, mexico, panama the list keeps growing as he's getting into office, steve mo moore, brandon arnold, thank you, appreciate it guys. so now to this. the president-elect in the same speech about the canal also saying no, elon musk will not be president, but the world's richest man and the trump team shook up congress by killing a major funding bill signaling changes in washington politics thanks to the doge duo. fox news aishah hasnie is live digging deeper into the implications here. reporter: ed good evening to you. democrats are outraged calling musk a shadow president and warning of the chaos to come. >> i don't think we're witnessing the start of
5:09 pm
an oligarchy. i think we are fully here. >> we're not just going to have president-elect trump as a billionaire rage tweeting at 4:00 a.m. we'll have elon musk also injecting instability into how we tackle very complicated and important issues for our country. >> many people throughout the capitol are saying he has perhaps emerged as the leader of the republican party moving forward. reporter: so ed, there are republicans calling musk a so to speak prime minister, others are lobbying to make him the speaker of the house. doge is getting some help from a familiar face, trump just appointed katie miller to joan elon and vivek and she was the press secretary for former vice president mike pence. i will say some democrats do want to work with doge. congressman moskowitz of florida hopes elon speaks to democrats next time he's in washington so more to come. definitely folks talking about it over the holiday break, in anticipation of what doge will
5:10 pm
do. reporter: and this is something you'll be following for a while, asia, i appreciate it. good to see you again. so now let's welcome to the show congressman russel fry, so is it good for washington? >> i think it's great. anything you can do to kind of breakup the normal dance that washington d.c., the better that's what the american people expect. that's why they elected donald trump back to the white house is they are tired of business as usual in washington d.c. they are tired of the spending. tired of not securing the border. tired of inflation just crippling their pocket books and their wallets and so i think doge is a welcome breath of fresh air in the swamp. reporter: i want you to listen to this. this is former new jersey governor chris cristi. he says elon musk's influence on donald trump will fade. listen to this. >> when you initially begin in that role you have enormous influence and he loves having you around and he loves listening to you and you're
5:11 pm
the best thing in the world. it will always decline and that's what happens and you'll see it. it will happen with elon musk too. reporter: so what do you think? is the president-elect too tight with the tesla founder and will his influence fade? >> i don't think so. i think that's kind of remarkable coming from chris cristi, but at the end of the day, the president trusts elon musk has done a great job in the private sector and i think president trump wants the private sector to kind of talk about how we can have savings in our federal government, how we can cut costs and how we can save the taxpayers money and so i don't think this is going away any time soon. reporter: so the first order of business in january is to get the trump administration cabinet nominees confirmed. here is senator rand paul on moving quickly on that. listen to this. >> i couldn't be happier with his nominees. i couldn't have picked better. some of them are people exactly who i would have picked. marty makary at fda, bobby
5:12 pm
kennedy, kash patel, tulsi gabbard, just the list goes on and on, pete hegseth. good people. we're going to work hard to get in the first week you'll have a half a dozen of them approved in the first week. i will control one committee and that i pledge to get them through as quickly as possible. reporter: so, the faster that's done the faster the president's agenda can start moving through congress, right? and tax bills start in the house generally. does that speed of nominations equate to a speed to see the tax cuts extended? >> i think so. when you look at this , what we see and what we're trying to do both in the house, sounds like senator paul in the senate is every which way that you can enact the president's agenda we'll try to do that. there's conversations taking place on capitol hill. there's conversations taking place between the house, the senate, and of course president trump's team on making sure that we deliver on the agenda set forward by president trump and so people really are excited about it but i think speed is an allie of
5:13 pm
ours. i think we owe it to the country to get some early wins and certainly as soon as the senate can confirm a lot of these appointments the better off we'll be. reporter: do you expect that one big bill will include the tax cuts extensions as well assading the no taxes on tips over time on social security? >> i think there's a lot of schools of thought on how this will come but the tax cuts and jobs act, the reauthorization of that, is incredibly important to the president. it's incredibly important to the taxpayers. if we don't act $1,400 per average on average for the american people, they are going to see their taxes increase and so if we cohen act this however we could enact it it's good for the country. this is a high priority for the president as is securing the border and other things, but it certainly is something that's on our minds as we move into the next congress that we have to do this. reporter: do you have a preference of one big bill or do it in piecemeal? >> look, i think the president is the coach and i think he calls the shots so when he's ready to call the shot, we're ready to roll.
5:14 pm
reporter: so how do you offset then revenue? how do you get more revenue to offset those added costs for the tax cuts? >> well look there's a lot of things he's talked about with tariffs and other things that could be part of this but at the end of the day, the reauthorization of the key components of the tax cuts and jobs act is really important. obviously the president wants to shift the focus a little bit on tips and corporate tax rates, so those are all good and again, when you get into the details of this that's kind of how this thing emerges but certainly the president talked about tariffs and other things that would boost revenue into the country, into the treasury and so these things are all on the table as we negotiate but we're just eager for him to start on january 20 so we can deliver much needed tax relief for the american people. reporter: so congressman you're on the energy subcommittee. the president-elect trump will unleash american energy. do you believe that lowering gas prices will actually lower prices and then how fast do you think that could happen? >> well i think what it does is
5:15 pm
it actually puts, i do, but i actually think it puts more money back into the wallets of the hard working americans who have been gut punched by inflation for four years. democrats talk about president musk and all this kind of stuff and try to be funny except it's not funny. it's not a joke. the real joke is how they have handled the country with this inflation and so for us, lower energy costs equate to a rising middle class that give them opportunities when they aren't having to foot the bill for higher energy costs in their home or their cars and so this is huge. i think this is actually a really big opportunity for the country when we're so energy dominant that we can have these opportunities for the middle class, in this country to provide, launch us into the future. it's a great way, it's a great way to pave into the 21st century. reporter: that was the key to the first trump administration was getting the oil prices down and then sort of everything follow the federal reserve is even complaining at the end of his administration they couldn't
5:16 pm
get inflation up to 2%. trying to figure out so congressman russel fry, from the great state of south carolina i appreciate it thank you. >> thank you. >> when my first day back in the oval office i will sign a historic slate of executive orders to close our border to illegal aliens and stop the invasion of our country. >> [applause] >> and on that same day, we will begin the largest deportation operation in american history. >> [applause] >> larger even than that of president dwight d. eisenhower. >> the president-elect donald trump doubling down on his plans for a massive border reform on day one of taking office, but now the biden administration is reportedly considering extending protections for hundreds of thousands of migrants whose legal status is set to expire in the trump administration. lt. chris olivares will join us

trump administration so mike emanuel digging deeper into this live in studio. mike what are you finding? reporter: edward the new york times is reporting the biden administration is planning to authorize extending the status for immigrants with temporary protected status. that allows people from dangerous countries to live and work in the u.s. legally. if president biden were to extend it, president-elect trump would have to wait for those protections to expire or cut them off early which could lead to lawsuits. if biden takes his action it's believed it would make it harder for president trump to deport this group of people. a biden allie says mr. biden is anxious about what's ahead. >> of course the president is gravely concerned about what president-elect trump might do but as president biden repeatedly said you can't only love your country when you win. he is committed to the process of democracy. >> yesterday president-elect trump suggested he wants to get started right away. >> your border is a disaster.

5:24 pm
abuse of the cbp app and the fact the current administration allowed millions of illegal immigrants who have not seen an asylum judge so we don't know what the status is and what their asylum claims are, so for the most part, many of these illegal immigrants are here for economic reasons which is not a criteria for asylum so many of these be considered or wobble inable for removal based on that alone, so that remains to be seen how many have temporary status, what exactly is the due process, have they seen an asylum judge and what is the reason why they are here and claim as far as asylum. that should be taken into account and i believe that on day one, with the new administration, that's what they are talking about is these mass deportations that have been adjudicated have had due process there's 1.5 million currently on the list right now that have orders of removal, so that's what we need to focus on. of course by having this in place, trying to slow down
5:25 pm
the new administration's policies to move them forward so again, undermines completedly what we're trying to do as far as move forward and i say we as a country when we're trying to slow down the flow of illegal immigration. >> lieutenant you talked about the parole process. the numbers we're seeing are a little skewed because they have been reassigned to those different apps. we're still seeing same amount of people coming to the southern border there in texas, right? >> well we have, and the texas alone we've had 80% decrease in legal border crossing which is good for us in texas but nonetheless across the southwest border on average we're still dealing with anywhere between 1,500 to 2,000 illegal border crossings a day between the ports of entry. that's not including cbp one app and direct flights that are from venezuela, cuba, haiti into the united states and also the parole process. those numbers as you mentioned are skewed and not taken into account the overall number of illegal border crossings, one thing the administration has been very good at or secretive is trying to allow people into
5:26 pm
the country illegally by avoiding the negative optics from the media where you don't see thousands coming across the border especially during a political year so that's what we're seeing and dealing with but nonetheless we still have close to 2,000 illegal border crossings a day. >> well chris, there's an op-ed from the editorial board over the weekend in the "wall street journal" saying the u.s. added a record 1.2 million militaries between 2023 and 2024 so given that reporting, you know, the biden administration is considering now expanding protections for migrants. how does the incoming border czar deal with all of this? >> well it's going to be very challenging for tom homan but of course, i've known tom over the years and if anybody can do the job and crackdown on illegal immigration it's tom. but again it's going to be very challenging. in the current administration right now trying to make it difficult for this new administration and trying to halt some of the deportations, so but you know, they mentioned from day one tom homan mentioned their priority is the national and public safety threats.
5:27 pm
criminals have committed crimes that have convicted of crimes and gotaways you have over 2 million known gotaways that have been reported not taken into account unknown gotaways, suspected terrorists, criminal gangs such as trend de aragus, and tom homan mentioned as far as new administration and focused on texas as well the public safety threats. >> you probably heard about the horrible event that happened in the subways over the weekend. you know, new york authorities arrested the person but first, he came into the u.se of 2018, days later the trump administration deported him and customs and border patrol believes he's a got away under the biden administration's open border policies. in an interview i did yesterday with tom homan i asked him this. listen to this. >> how concerned are you someone's already come across the border who wants to do us harm? >> i'm very concerned. we've got over 2 million gotaways. these people more to get away and don't want to be fingerprinted or vetted.
5:28 pm
it should scare the hell out of everybody. it does me. i don't know how many come across the border but does say it's a bad day for america that's why i'm glad president trump will be in office. >> how do you find those people? >> that's law enforcement. >> so the question i have for you is can the trump administration find those gotaways in time? >> you know that's going to be the issue right there is you talk about gotaways these are people that snuck into the country and being able to avoid capture and law enforcement. this tragedy that took place in new york in the subway is a prime example of a got away that has been able to sneak into the country and the only reason why we're able to find them or arrest the criminal is the fact he committed a horrific crime. we can't wait to continue for these crimes to happen and tom homan is mentioning they have a strategy in place, they don't want to disclose that because obviously no type of information to the criminals how 'r i know they have the resources

so more for this story let's go to gop strategist ford o'connell. now, so not only amazon but starbucks workers are also striking in at least 12 cities. were these strikes timed for the holidays and do you see them making major disruptions? >> they are absolutely timed for the holidays. what they are basically trying to do is get public support on their side. let's start with amazon. it has 950,000 workers nationwide. the union only has 10,000 workers so it's not going to make a major dent. the international brotherhood of teamsters are basically trying to make a long-term play so they can get that initial collective bargaining agreement with amazon and once they are in the door they can push amazon around. with starbucks on the other hand you've got 200,000 workers. it's workers united only 1 1,000 and if the workers united get what they want which is about a 64-73% pay increase your latte is going from $7 to about $13, so they aren't going to beat starbucks either. >> so, the trump economic advisor steve moore had a lot to say about the strikes yesterday
