kudlow, i'm larry kudlow. it was high noon drama in the house where mike johnson was reelected speaker by a cat's whisker. we'll talk to senator chuck grassley and house gop chair lisa mcclain and ke kellyanne conway and others in just a few moments. first jump in with a quick recap from fox news aishah hasnie live from capitol hill. virginia foxx fell badly, bleeding, something or other. can you help us on that? reporter: yes, you know, larry, in the capitol there's all these marble floors and it gets slippery and we're hearing that virginia foxx took a tumble down steps and her head was bleeding apparently. she is conscious, she is speaking. apparently they have paramedics on the way to help her so she's going to get treatment and they're kind of cordoning off the area and she's in good hands
4:02 pm
and being taken care of again and awake and talking and she did take a slip and fell in those steps. reporter: yeah, turns out, larry, the man that closed the deal for speaker mike johnson was none other than the president elect himself. sources are telling us that donald trump was on speakerphone with both norman and self, those two holdououts that were voting against johnson right after they voted against him and this is what we're being told that trump got on the phone and told these guys "it would be disrespectful to americans who voted in a historic presidential election to have this speaker's vote go to a second or third ballot, and it would be disrespectful to me"ending with,"female las, we have a -- fellas, we have to lot
4:03 pm
to do, let's get to it". apparently it worked, that phone call and trump said tvs a great honor to have helped and this process that brought the gop conference a lot closer together. johnson secured the gavel in the first round, not without drama of course and we saw six republicans originally refuse to vote, three republicans voted for somebody else but then members began huddling and the talk with trump happened, larry. someone in the room told me that johnson promised these guys he would be more inclusive, this would not be a top down conference and he would have people of good faith in the room working on the big bills and told that johnson did not make any deals and didn't hand over any deals and here he is talking to what is now the new congress right after getting the gavel. listen. >> we recognize that the core principles that made america what we are must still be preserved today.
4:04 pm
the principles, i call them the seven core principles of american conservative but the seven core principles of the nation itself. individual freedom, individual government, rule of law, peace through strength, fiscal responsibility, free markets, human dignity. reporter: larry, we did see some of the trump world folks here in person as well. there was definitely pressure from mar-a-lago but there were people representing the president elect himself here on the ground as well. and it worked. larry. larry: aishah, when did that trump phone call news break? must have just happened. reporter: looked like it happened right after that vote was doomed for speaker johnson. larry: the pause? reporter: yeah, the pause and we didn't know if it was going to go to the second vote or not. when people started huddling together and members started leaving the chamber floor a. lot of people brought kids and wanted to get something to eat, and that's really what afforded
4:05 pm
some time for speaker johnson to have these conversations. he slipped into the cloak room but not in the cloak room but in the side room is where trump was put on speakerphone. i'm hearing from someone that it was nancy mace possibly that got him on the phone. then hand that had over and the talk began. it was both trump and johnson i think talking to these two guaranteed credits and tropical storming that they will it'll bin collusive conference on trimming the deficit. larry: that's great news. aishah hasnie, thank you, appreciate it very, very much. yes, it was high noon today on the floor of the house of representatives and michael johnson was finally reelected to be speaker in the 119th congress. by a huge vote of 218-2015. may be a -- 218-215.
4:06 pm
reminds me of high noon cowboy movie. cooper won an oscar for his role of cleaning out the bad guys and at the end of the movie, he shoots the worst criminal in town. wasn't exactly like this on the floor of the house but in the end mike johnson was able to persuade dozens of gop rebels including some friendly persuasion, i guess with donald trump for the last two holdouts. the guy cooper metaphor and not precise and you get the picture. speaker johnson gave a strong acceptance speech touching on the elements of president trump's mandate for change agenda. listen to this one. >> we will act quickically we will start by defending our nation's boarders. that's the number one priority. we'll deport dangerous criminal, illegal aliens and finally finish building the border wall.
4:07 pm
larry: the speaker then promptly moved into pro growth tax cuts. take a listen to this one. >> after four years of high inflation, there's a big agenda and fight high inflation and we must. we'll give relief to americans and we'll extend the trump tax cuts. larry: he'll be stuck with biden fellation and caused in part by the last minute and lame duck biden spending and federal reserve that is monetizing biden's deficits by cutting interest rates and inflating the money supply. unless mr. trump's supply side tax cuts and deregulation is quickly put into place, this new year 2025 could turn out to be very disappointing for the broad working class coalition that gave them a resounding electoral victory and that's why the new congress should immediately move
4:08 pm
to put together what some sources close to president trump are calling one big beautiful bill. that would include tax cuts and border closing and the doge brothers spending cuts, energy deregulation and a peace through strengths defense component. let's not waste any time and happened back in 2017. let's start right away with one big beautiful reconciliation fiscal package. get it done by mid year at the latest. that will conquer biden fell-flationand a match needed . that's the riff. weir joined by the great iowa senator chuck grassley and chair of the judiciary committee. senator grassley, wonderful to see you, sir. happy new year and thought you'd react to this high noon dramatic

united states senate, but i'm just glad that scenario didn't happen because what it would be is blow everything that was accomplished by reelecting president trump and just blow it all away. we can't afford to lose one day let alone a month after getting this agenda under way and we're ready in the united states senate as a first republican majority and fourth year to meaux the trump agenda along and we know that elections are supposed to have consequences and one of the consequences is delivering on what the voters thought about and closing the border means continuing the tax policies of the last eight years and whole bunch of other stuff. america first is the best way to put it. larry: yes, sir. you're going to take over as chairman of the very important judiciary committee and i just want to switch gear as little bit, senator grassley.

i mean, the fbi again, i don't know if the word botched is the right word, but we couldn't get a straight answer. this horrible nightmarish evil terrorist act in new orleans for example. first the fbi said it wasn't a terrorist act and then they said it was. first the fbi said that there were accomplices and then said no, there weren't. so much gone wrong with the fbi in the last four years or in fact really going further than that with all the nonsense of trump's russia hoax and so forth. what do you make of that? can kash patel come in and clean house?
4:12 pm
>> i look very favorable at this particular time and expect him to get through and expect him to make big changes on the eighth floor of the hoover building here in washington dc. and have law enforcement or fbi become law enforcement agency and not the political weapon that it's been to arrest and bring charges against trump as an example to use it as a political tool to defeat who was supposed to defeat who's now going to be the next president of the united states. larry: senator, i assume you'll get along famously with my good friend pam bondi nominated to be attorney general and important job and another place that needs housekeeping i would think, sir. >> i've met with her and i'm enthused with her work that

all this migration madness and border insecurity. and these foreign wars and they've won a government that was smaller and less invasive and instrewsive and expansive and has -- intrusive and expanse and i have relationship with the citizenery and not punitive and confiscatory and overbearing and you hear that from president trump obviously and now from speaker johnson. larry, i love the fact the speaker took the gavel and immediately talked about those seven governing principles and said it's conservatism but founding principles of america and he just kn knows them off te top of his head and individual freedom and free market economy and sovereignty and security and this is what america voted for, i have to say, president trump weighing in is so appropriate here because he basically is telling these holdouts, look, you may have general concerns and you're putting on the table that you want more workdays, great, and you want more time to read and debate bills before you
