quickly. tariffs haven't even been imposed yet and already people are backing off. >> well, the market i and else said this will hurt and people knew it was going to be bad stuff coming and both sides said donald trump said let's come to an agreement and so bash them over the head and say let's come to an agreement and so far seems to be working. i hope though, i hope though he follows through not just on the tariff front in terms of getting these things settled but come up with a -- we're waiting for that big, beautiful tax cut encompassing tax cut because in the first term, he got the tax cuts through and then he dealt with tariffs. so we want a big tax cut in there and any tariffs come along and can be mitigated by people having paychecks going up. stuart: most americans have high hopes for president trump's

economy and new gallop poll say 53% think the government and economy will grow over the next six months. 53% growth in the next six months. think that'll happen? >> i think the economy will grow and getting this tariff situation resolved as quickly as possible and big fat tax bill and the rules of the game and see thing and removing uncertainty and people know things are moving and i think that'ses formula for growth and this taxes and big fight later in year is with the federal reserve, that still doesn't understand inflation. bad thing. stuart: trump wants federal reserve to lower interest rates now and jay powell not so keen s. that a clash? >> the clash is jay powell thinks the way to control inflation is by depressing the economy. it's not the way you do it. do it the way reagan did and cut taxes and cut regulations and you get a stable dollar and relatively stable dollar and

jason katz with me this morning. looks like things are moving and looks like trump's hardball strategy is working; right? >> just another manic monday, stu. you know, i'm z surprised that investors were surprised. trump is following through with exactly what he campaigned on. look at what kevin hassett said this morning. this is a drug war, not a trade war. howard lutnick specifically referred to this as bargaining chip and at expense of some short term pain, trump will continue to use this tactic but most countries as evidenced by what's happening in mexico this morning will concede something and trump in turn will declare victory and our base case, stu, is that tariffs will only partially be implemented at best and probably prove to be temporary. stuart: this is a rosie scenario. if you can just fix the tax and figure out the tariff situation, you can move onto extending trump's tax cuts.

then move onto doing something about interest rates because as a clash between jay powell and federal -- and president trump. this is a fairy rosie outlook right now. would you agree with that? >> from steve forbes' mouth to actor's ears. look, there's a lot that has to go right here and i'm sure we're going to have bumps along the way. the market pulled forward a tremendous amount of performance and end of the day, you need good tax cuts but above all and i said it last week, we need companies to deliver earning ands we're in the throes of earnings season and not even talking about earnings but deepseek and tariffs and getting back to business to the micro in the near future. stuart: that's a positive you think? >> i do indeed. i think the bar has been set relatively low and washington looking for 10% earning ands seeing at least that. by the way, it's not the growth cohort that's down half a percent on the year. what's up 5% on the year through

america. madison, if the tariffs were immohsed, would tafanely -- imposed, would they raise gas prices here? madison: yes, but depends on where you are in the u.s. f. they go into effect, refiners in the u.s. paying 10% higher for canadian energy sources and could be paid by you at the pump. but there's hope that things could change. # trump caught tariffs on canadian oil in order to ease the impact on energy prices. trump has said that there will be short term pain for americans if these go into effect. now, prices today they sit at just above $3, $3.09 for a gallon of regular gas on average across the u.s.. i cross the u.s. because midwest drivers could be luckier than east coast if we see these tariffs. that's because midwestern pumps have been stockpiling canadian oil in recent months so they

crocrossing and one pound of fentanyl is too much. we announced a package of over $1 billion to buy helicopters and drones and actually put more people at the border, but we've also said to president trump and his folks that we're willing to do more and that's a conversation we need to have is this is something that both of us agree we need to ensure the public is fully secured. i would also say i'm heading to washington this week to have conversations about how can we actually help each other become more secure, particularly visavi china and we need help in developing the minerals and a way in which we can help to ensure security against the country that really is the challenge for both of us, which is china. stuart: you'll be coming to dc i believe later this week, i think it's maybe tomorrow actually. you're discussing trade. will you be discussing the idea that's been put forward by some of a great north american energy alliance?

this afternoon between canada and united states? can we make that assumption? >> i think there's going to be active conversations going on and they spoke about the boarder and trade and i expect they'll continue that conversation later this afternoon and they're going to be a win/win for the pathway for the united states of america and canada. stuart: i understand they booed at sports events this weekend and can we get back to a better relationship quickly? >> we can. we've been partners and allies not just economically but in world wars and we -- many of us have family in the united states and certainly almost everyone has friends in the united states and i think what you saw in a couple of places last night is canadians are angry about the

development remain committed to the project but without shell's backing, hard to see how that works. supposedly it's happening and skepticism there. the impact of trump's executive order is bearing fruit with the announcement. on the first day in office, trump signed an executive order singling out offshore wind and halt on all lease sales and federal waters and pause on approvals. it also directed administration officials to review existing offshore wind leases and identify any legal reasons to terminate them. so this could be shell getting ahead of that for fear that it would have been terminated anyway. stuart: it could be. think? it looks like it. madison, thank you very much indeed. madison: got it. going to the dow 30. we opened up this morning, every single one of those stocks was in the red. now about half are in the green. clearly the market has come back because of all the talk about negotiating on tariffs. coming up, new jersey governor phil murphy revealed an illegal migrant is living in his home.
