"the wall street journal" doesn't think much of the president's deal with canada and if mexico. the journal says our neighbors gave, quote, minor concessions to get a pause on tariffs. all right. at the top of the money news this morning, yeah, it's palantir. the stock is behaving like nvidia. it reported a surge in profits and suggests it will stay strong in the future up 23% at $103 a share. the dow after monday's 600-point recovery swing, down about 80. a nasdaq up about 0 points in the -- 20 the points in the premarket session. bitcoin, it's at 99,2. the 10-year at 4.58%, and the 2-year coming in at 4.25%, actually, just above 4.25%. treasury yields rising. to oil, down, $71 a barrel. when tariffs on canada's oil

"varney & company" is about to begin. ♪ ♪ finish. ♪ you don't know how lucky you are, boys ♪ stuart: i like that song. it's very old. we have to start with, china responding to president trump's tariffs with tariffs of their own. china's finance minister said, yes, it would impose a 15% tariff for coal and liquified natural gas, 10% for crude oil, agriculture commitment and large engine car as -- cars from america. they will open an antitrust investigation into google. all of this was put in place just hours ago. there will be a phone call between the president and xi jinping at some point today. remember, please, phone calls

yesterday with mexico and canada quickly yielded a pause for the tariffs. we'll bring you any news on today's call with china in a new minutes, we'll talk to press secretary karoline leavitt the see if there's negotiation taking place today. president trump's and canada's prime minister, justin trudeau, they were able to negotiate a deal to delay the tariffs for at least 30 days. good morning, madison. what's in that deal? >> the main part is that canada has vowed to take steps to the secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl. both sides have announced a pause in tariffs for now. prime minister trudeau saying canada will post a fentanyl czar, list cartels as terrorist to organizations which opens up enforcement pathways and will increase security on the border. heir also going to launch a canada-u.s. joint strike task force, a slew of things, all this backed up by money. canada is backing a new

intelligence directive with $200 million. trump responded on truth social saying fairness for all, among other things as you saw there. but not all are treating this as a success. "the wall street journal" editorial board saying that president trump wavered after minor concessions from canada the and and mexico saying, quote, president trump never admits a mistake, but he often changes his mind. that's the best way to read his decision monday. president trump hit back. >> they're ripping us off. really badly. and the united states is tired of -- we're being ripped off. the "wall street journal" is wrong. very simply, every single country that you're writing about right now is dying to make a deal. because the deals they have right now are so good and so good for them and so profitable for them. >> so, obviously, we were covering this all day yesterday. things are moving so quickly. the news today, both canada and mexico have their tariffs paused

for one months -- one month, but but there's the possibility they come back. stuart: thank, madison is. yesterday we tarted way down, ended up modestly lower. this morn ifing dow's off 70 but the nasdaq up 36 points. look who is here. we used to call him the superbull. his name is mike lee, and he's with us today. we have short-term deals in place with canada and if mexico. trump speaks with china later odd on today. what does all of that mean for the markets? >> well, look, i think from a mexico standpoint, you know, i view mexico as a failed narco state. anything we can get them to do to help is good. but this is going to be a long battle with them. and then the deal with canada is a win-win, right? fentanyl's a problem for their country too, so for them to commit more resources and work with the united states and declare these cartels as terror theist -- temporaryist organizations -- terrorist organizations, that is a massive

step. they've known it for decades, but now it's a new level. from an mix standpoint -- economic standpoint, every other major market in the world has tariffs and barriers to entry except for the united states. it has been a massive long-term benefit for countries like india and china. so in the u.s. if we do reinstall tariffs and the market sells off, those are huge buying opportunitiesful you'll have short-term price shocks on specific chings -- things, but in the long run, it creates revenue for our treasury that is $37 trillion in debt. stuart: okay, palantir. look at them this morning. last time we quoted them, it was up $104 a share, you're up about 23%. you've long favored this stock, you say one of the best investments around. how high does it go? >> so, stuart, today and next week, i'm not sure. i'd imagine we get a slight pullback, maybe $5-10. when the stock hit the 70s and if 80s, it pulled back to the mid 60s.

that was a great buy just a week and a half if ago. morgan stanley analyst. >> just upped his price target. as artificial intelligence is coming about, as the way data is consumed and transformed on a permanent basis, they are the leader in software in implementing these big data, these large language molds into businesses. -- models. they're being built with nvidia chip, without a software component to drive it, they're just science experiments. stuart: buy it from here? >> yes. look for some dips. stuart: all right, stay there. more in a second. listen to what democrats said about the add administration shutting down usaid. watch this. >> this is a corrupt abuse of power that is going on. >> this illegal, unconstitutional interference with congressional power is threatening lives all over the world. >> this is a constitutional crisis that we are in today.

they actually had to go through a terroristal congressional review process -- traditional congressional review process. 9 and the idea that we're in a constitutional crisis over something like this is laughable. usaid a was created by an executive order, by president kennedy back in the day. this is something that, you know, should absolutely be folded into and part of the tools under the department of state. and that's why i think what's happening right now is a healthy dynamic, saying these are things that should not be, you know, the ways for bureaucrats to spend money willy-nilly in accordance with woke or dee political agendas. it should be manager that is actually decided and determined by people approved by the congress to lead the cabinet and the executive branch, and that's something i hope we get to. stuart: ben domenech, thanks for joining us. >> good to be with you. stuart: trump signed a new executive order creating a sovereign wealth fund. how about that? come on back in, mike lee.

what's going to into this fund? crypto stocks or some other asset? >> howard lutnick is a dealmaker, and he said it best. if you're going to invest substantially in a company, if you're a private equity executive or if you're a foundation or you're giving must be to a private entity hike they did with the covid vaccine, the united states government should get some sort of equity participation in that. so i think you're going to see all sorts of things go into that. hopefully, a bunch of crypto. hopefully when hay sign a massive -- they sign massive contracts with enterprise, they get some equity in the participation to the upside that the taxpayer has funded. this is a turning point in america. it's time for us to stop being this broke nation of a fiat currency where we keep printing money into infinity, to start having some real monetary, financial assets that we can point to for the long-term health of our country. i'm really excited. stuart: it's a big switch.

stuart: trump's interior secretary, doug burgum, he's mrt signed new orders to unleash american energy. what's in those orders, madison? >> all of them have the goal of not just freeing up american energy, but making america energy dominant. they do things like establish that the u.s. is in a national energy emergency, they also boost energy production on federal lands, open up offshore drilling areas that were previously restricted, and they fast-track the development in alaska. there's a push to cut regulations. they want to eliminate ten

existing rules for every new one they create. a key theme is reducing costs for american families, mainly through expanding domestic energy production. so there you have it, stu. stuart: that's one of the reasons why oil is down to $70 a barrel. white house press secretary karoline leavitt joins me now. president trump's going to the speak with xi jinping later on today. is is this the start of some sort of negotiation over tariffs in? >> well, as president trump made it very clear9 with the signing of the 10% tariffs on china, he is in longer going to allow chinese-sourced, produced and distributed fentanyl to flow through our southern and northern borders here in america. fentanyl is the leading cause of death amongst young people in this country aged 18-34, ands it is the president's utmost respondent if to protect -- responsibility to protect american lives. that's' why he implemented the 10% tariff on china p. president xi did reach out to president trump the speak about this, maybe to begin a negotiation, so

we'll see how that call goes. as you saw, can and mexico both conceded to president trump, agreeing to help us in securing our territorial borders. and so we will see how the conversation with president xi goes, but as of now the 10% tariff has been in effect, and president trump is going to continue to stand up for the american people. stuart: okay. if we got something from xi jinping about the drug situation, that could be the the start of a serious negotiation, i suspect. but let me move on. listen to what president trump said about elon musk's powers at doge. roll it. >> well, he's got access only to letting people go that he thinks are no good if we agree with him, and it's only if we agree with him. he's a very talented guy from the standpoint of management and costs. but they're finding tremendous amounts of really bad things, bad spending. elon can't do and won't do anything without our approval.

stuart: musk has access to the payment system and us an aid -- usaid. what bad things has he found? >> well, first of all, leapt me say, stu, i think it's quite comical how fascinated the legacy media is with elon musk working on behalf of president trump. this is what president trump campaigned on. elon musk is a highly respected, once in a a generation business leader who is volunteering his time to help make our federal government more efficient. and president trump talked about that on campaign trail. the american people elected president trump to do exactly what elon musk is helping president trump do. and when it comes to usaid a, elon musk and his team have found egregious spending, federal tax dollars being wasted on thicks like transgender concern things like transgender comic books in foreign countries. opportunity tens of thousands of dollars, millions of dollars going out the door every year on thicks that do not align with our priorities here in the

united states of america. and so that's been president trump's main goal since day one, insuring that the every penny that goes out from washington, d.c. aligns with his america first principles. and that's certainly true when it comes to foreign aid. the american taxpayers have been funding just useless priorities over seas, and it's unfair. and elon musk is helping president trump in identifying these receipts and clawing back some of that wasteful spending. stuart: the president's moving at breakneck speed. what can you tell me about the plan to shut down the department of education? [laughter] >> well, i won't get ahead of president trump on any announcements, but that is something that he campaigned on, and it goes back to his wanting to make this government accountable to the american taxpayer. and when you rook at the literacy rates, the math and the reading rates of young children and students in america, they are not good. our nation's report card was released last week, and it showed that only 40% of fourth

graders are reading at a proficient level. so, colliely -- clearly, the tens of millions of dollars that the department of education is spending every single year is not working, and president trump wants to empower parents to have a greater say if in their child's education system. he signed two executive the orders on the education front last week. as for the department of education, tbd on an announcement there -- stuart: so you can't confirm -- [laughter] that he is going to try to abolish the department of education. can't confirm that for us? >> i will say that president trump campaigned on that promise, and i think the american people can expect him to deliver on it. stuart: okay. let's turn to immigration, if we may. trump's team has gotten venezuela ask pell salvador to agree to take back criminal migrants that we deport: what threats were made to these countries to get them in line in. >> well, they have seen that president trump is not messing around, if he's no longer going to allow america to be a dumping ground for illegal criminals from from nations all over this

world. and so el salvador has not just agreed to the repatriation of their own citizens, but also illegal criminals from ore nations who -- other nations who will then be sented to their prisons. venezuela has well -- as well and colombia also agreed to cooperate with the repatriation of illegal colombian nationals we have found in the interior of our country. and i can also confirm that today the first flights from the united states to guantanamo bay with illegal migrants are underway. and so president trump, pete hegseth and kristi noem are already are delivering on this promise to utilize that capacity at a gitmo for illegal criminals who have broken our nation's immigration laws and then have further committed heinous crimes against lawful american citizens here at home. stuart: quick comment, new jersey's governor phil murphy said he had an illegal migrant living in his home. he tries to challenge the

administration. what do you make of that? >> hmm, very interesting comment. i will say that this administration will hold democrat governors and leaders across the country accountable if they break the law. if they harbor illegal aliens or if they are not abiding by the federal immigration laws, this administration is focused on enforcing those laws, and we will ramp up prosecutions of those who are not abiding by our nation's immigration laws. stuart: you're one of the busiest people in america these days, and we thank you for taking time out to speak with us. >> thanks, stu. stuart: i see red ink for the dow, down about 82 points. minor gain for the nasdaq, up 10. not much price change in the early going. the opening bell is next. ♪ ♪

we could facilitate the sale and purchase of tiktok which is one that i think has a snap u.s. interest. but it's all about a benefit u.s. taxpayers. i have a vision, stuart, that in a decade we could balance the budget with the returns of a u.s. sovereign wealth fund. so that's how big of an impact could be, and i think it's a big with win for u.s. taxpayers. stuart: but who pays for the assets that go into the sovereign wealth fund? is it the tax taxpayer that funds them? >> yeah, look, trump said he may use tariffs, i want to see more. i think we have to have a conversation about taxpayers funding this. the federal reserve is buying u.s. fixed income at treasuries a is the -- assets. i think you're going to get a taxpayer-type funded sovereign wealth fund for the benefit of u.s. taxpayers. to me, that makes sense. stuart: we always hi of you as a dip buyer. are you buying the latest dip? and if so, what are you buying? real past.

>> i say buy cheap index funds, vot is a bid-cap fund. i'm -- mid-cap fund. palantir's one of the names in this fund. it's up big. the second one is vgt, vanguard technology the fund. 40% of that fund is apple, nvidia and microsoft, so it's a good allocation to tech. i think the care scare in tech is overblown, you want the own those names. stuart: the trend in stocks is still up, right? >> i am a bullish on this market. i think we're going to see regulatory reforms and tax reforms, you want to stay invested, sue. stuart: thanks very much or, indeed. the opening bell just rang, the market is open. off we go. a minor loss for the dow industrials, dead flat, frankly, and an equal number of winners and losers, red and green, amongst the dow 30. s&p 500 on the downside ever so slightly. i mean -- that's dead flat, let's call it like that. the nasdaq composite, possible small gain, up .16%, 31 points,

there you have it. let's have a look at big tech. we've opened almost all of them higher, alphabet, meta, the amazon, apple and now microsoft moving into the plus column. 40 if huge price changes but they're up of -- no huge price changes. china placing two companies on its unreliable entity list. good morning, taylor. which companies are unreliable in. >> pvh corp. and illumina, a biotech company. basically, china putting these on the unreliable list is their way of doing countersanctions against us for our special 10% tariffs we put n. it allows them to impose punitive measures against foreign entities so, again, targeting two companies here that are u.s. companies but have big exposure the china. stuart: china's launching an antitrust -- >> yep. stuart: -- against google, and they report tonight. no impact. >> yeah, at least for now. remember, google's effectively been shut out of china since

2010. i read maybe 1% of their global sales come from china, so this is more a headline than a fundamental story. let's get to the earnings, right? cloud growth is going to be the focus and p of course, spending on a.i., right? look at earnings per share, up to 213. look at revenue, up to $96 billion. ad revenue to come into $7532 -- 72 billion. i mean, these are staggering numbers, but that's to how big google is. google cloud, growing up to about a $12 billion in revenue. stuart: walking up to the earnings, the stock is up. got it. chinese stocks, some of them at least, on upside this morning. despite these tariffs. >> remember, we had a big selloff yesterday so, again, digesting how much of a selloff yesterday, how much of a rebound today. do tariffs really impact them or not, tbd. stuart: i want to talk about palantir. it's going to be the stock of the day. they just had their earnings. they must have been excellent. >> it was the stock of the year last year, right?

remember, they were up triple digits. this is unbelievable. this was a stock, rep remember when khan ives said -- dan ives said it's a $75 price target? we all thoughts that was crazy. it is now a $100 stock. unbelievable. yes, basically, they crushed it. alex karp came out and said, look, we are demonstrate thing our deepening position, we are at the center of the a.i. revolution and what basically all of their early insights are showing they have moved from theory to fact. so they're monetizing a.i.. stuart: that'll get 'em going. that's a statement, all right. >> i know. stuart: super micro. i believe it's way up today. can you tell me why? >> this is a company we talked a lot about at the end of last year. the auditor pulled out, they had to get a new auditor, so basically they're going to be to giving us an update on february 11th, but we do know they said they are looking at net sales for next quarter of 5.a 5-6.1 billion dollars. that was in line with what

analysts wanted, and remember that big independent committee came in and said that they found no evidence of misconduct or fraud. so maybe this is a company that's starting to turn around and put that bad news behind it. stuart: salesforce, job cuts. how many and why? >> 1,000 people all to pivot to a.i. they did say the thousand people, they do have the opportunity the apply to a.i. sales roles but, again, this is the pivot within these big tech companies of moving to a.i. stuart: estee lauder, job cuts. how many and why? >> 7,000 because things aren't good. this is a different story. so they basically said that they see weak demand at a airport as, at travel destinations, asia cons to be a problem for them. -- continues to be a problem with soft demand travel trends over there, so really job cuts in order to restore growth. stuart: several companies reported their earnings this morning first thing. let's start with fox. looks like they were good. >> yeah. so our parent company.

look, pryer profit -- higher profit, better advertising thanks to sports. revenue if was up 20%, profit was a certain similar story. ad a revenue up 32%, thank you to news ratingsing, high prices for advertisers, digital ad sales and really good mlb postseason. stuart: it was a good election year with, wasn't it? spotify. >> swing to a profit. look at this, you're up 10 president on the day. -- 10%. they want to add about 3 million new monthly active users in the current quarter. stuart: okay. pfizer. >> pfizer. okay. so revenue person andings beat, and they reaffirmed their guidance. very good, that's why the stock's up 2%. they also said higher paxlovid sales and their legacy oncology drug did well. stuart: tell me about a merck. >> to the downside -- stuart: bigtime. >> 11.5-12%. soft guidance going forward. they said last quarter sales

were really good for key feud da, cancer drug -- keytruda. stuart: can we get back to the green. >> if paypal? >> no. okay. so we're down 10%. what was interesting here was this was an easy beat. the ceo said they have really started to get in that narrow focus that they plan plantedded the seeds for in 2024. they're starting to see signs of that. but one analyst said that the payment volume growth of about a 6% was short of estimates. stuart: pepsi. >> you are not eating enough snacks, stu. keep eating your snacks. here's what they said, revenue missed and reporting weakness in north america, frito lay and quaker foods business. every knew fell 2%, quaker foods in north america fell 2%. the beverage business was unchanged. you need to be eating more knacks. stuart: i wonder if that's got something to do with wegovy. >> i know. there are thoughts about that. there also was a food recall with quaker that they're till
