elizabeth: welcome back. this time around president trump or is totally prepared. he's showing how unprepared and out of touch democrats are with voters. it feels like the president's been president for phi years, and now he is -- five the years, and now he is preparing a new executive order to reform the education department. polls show many americans want this. mike emanuel live from the d.c. bureau with more. >> reporter: hi, liz. it's clear leading republicans strongly support shutting down the department of education. >> i very much support president donald trump for his courage to promote local elected school boards with the elimination of the duplicative, wasteful, interfering and federal department of education. and the funding, cheerily, should go to the -- clearly,

should go to the students and not to bureaucrats. >> reporter: president trump's point person to fix education in this country is linda mcmahon, and it sounds like the president is hoping her role will only be tier. temporary. >> we're ranked very badly, and i want to let the states run schools. i believe strongly in school choice, but in addition to that i want the states to run schools, and i want linda to put herself out of a job. >> reporter: today a key democrat pressed a parent advocate on that issue. >> ms. neely, do you think that the department of education should be abolished? >>e won two world wars without having a department of educatio- >> so you don't believe it should exist. >> i didn't say that. >> reporter: house law may pecks -- lawmakers held a hearing and democrats acknowledge america's schools have struggled to bounce back since the covid pandemic. >> achievement gaps which existed before the pandemic have widened according to that

assessment. if math and reading gaps between higher and lower performing students continue to rise as black students continue to be more than 10 points behind their white peers in all a subjects. finish. >> reporter: an education department spokesperson if tells fox they are, quote, evaluating staffing to prioritize academics over divisive ideology. liz? elizabeth: mike emanuel, thank you so much. that was a great story. now listen to this -- >> reporter: thank you. >> reporter: and on the education department, why follow nate if linda mcmahon to be the education department secretary if you're going to get rid of the education department? >> because i told linda, linda, i hope you do a great job and put yourself out of a job. i want her to put herself out of a job. education department. so we're ranked number 40 out of 40 schools, right? we're ranked number 11 in cost per pew -- number 1 in cost per pupil. we're ranked at the bottom of the list, we're ranked very badly. and what i want to do is let the states run schools.

i believe strongly many school choice. elizabeth: that was president trump on overhauling the u.s. u.s. education department. look who's here, he's at prager-u, he's xavier derusso. it's great to see you. what's your reaction to this? you just heard the sound that, you know, we won two u.s. world wars without a u.s. education department. trump wants to put education back inside the u.s. states, again giving u.s. states the power like it used to be, you know, serving block grants to states for -- sending block grants to states for them to spend. he says we could be as good as a denmark, nor ifway, sweden. this is how it used to be before the jimmy carter white house. >> i mean, i think that's fantastic news. if you look at a every single measurable metric of the department of education, they are a failed experiment. we used to be leading the world when it came to education, and now we're at a the bottom of the list. and when you look at the alarmingly low literacy rates and math and science scores,

it's humiliating to us as a country. i think the the common sense if solution of that is to have the resources going back to the backyards of these students, going to the states, going to local supervision so that we can figure out how we can be more hands on with getting these kids the proper education that they need. because right now the department of education is just a glorified money laundering scheme because they're taking all this money from the states, essentially cutting it in half and then giving the scraps back over to the states and telling them to use it to push woke causes and vaccine information. elizabeth: you know, savier, let's stick on that point -- xavier, because public universities have been accused of choosing indoctrination over education. last year the advocacy organization speech first found that two-thirds of mayor u.s. universities mandate college students must take dei courses just to graduate. i mean, six out of ten of them were public, taxpayer-funded universities. so taxpayers are paying for,

like, really crazy stuff happening inside u.s. universities. what's your take on dei in public schools? >> you know, i think it's horrifying. i think it should be the bottom of the barrel when it comes to our priorities. why do we have our most elite minds in pupils that should be learning about, you know, actual science and history and things that are going to continue to push our nation forward? instead they're learning about dei and all these different woke mindsets. and it just shows, again, how much of a scam the department of education is. their number one financial priority is putting billions of dollars towards federal aid for these students so that a they can go and be indoctrinated, and yet there's no accountability put on these universities who waste so much of that money on general ed courses that are just a scam to get the universities more enriched and then end these dei classes that, again, are teaching gender studies and all these racial classes that have nothing to do with anything if relevant. it is all a scam, and this is why you have so many students

>> president trump is doing what he promised to, to and very quickly. i represent a part of my district reeves county that produces more natural gas t -- anywhere else. the president is doing his job, in a couple weeks he has proven he is supporting the oil and gas industry, and using it as leverage. congress needs to come alongside and do your jobs to make sure that gains are long-term for betterment of u.s. and world. >> it feels like he has been president for 5 years, his game fla -- plan, do more drilling, lower energy cost, lower gas and oil costs, and lower inflation that will lower interest rates and mortgage rates,

we're hearing he could create more pipelines for u.s. to sell oil to west then to japan and china. they have northwest pipeline, and k keystone maybe more from east to west to japan and china, is that possible? >> it could be, it is a great idea, we have other venues, you can chip you know, lng across the globe. our strategic petroleum reserves they lie in west texas, in the permian basin, we keep american prices down and do be that global leader that we once were, how do we help our allies, everywhere i go, when i meet with president of the prime minister of india or with the president of south korea, doesn't matter, everyone is saying, tony, you know, how can i get some more of that texas natural gas.
