number one the sloppiness and fraud and waste has gone on for so long. obviously this is not something that happened overnight it's incredible to me that people work in a government have such laziness that they never bothered to look at the numbers that apparently are pretty easy to find number two was incredible as anyone is objecting to this. as caroline leva pointed out this is not just about hauling in the illegal and fraudulent and wasteful payments it's about making sure if you are 60 years old that you will get social security payments from a healthy institution for the next many years. how could anyone object to this, i have no idea. maria: i think the democrats are objecting because they are embarrassed and they have been supposedly stewards of our economy and stewards of our government for how many years depending on who you're talking

about and this is been happening on their watch. >> the agency has been asleep at the wheel and i'm so glad you brought this up. it is the system why did this happen and elon musk posted about it. he said the logic flow diagram for the social security system looks insane all capital letters he wrote he says no other person actually knows how it works you need to get forensic accounting and programmers and people from doge and you need to get experts on technology and algorithms and accounting systems in their, why that has never happened at all the decades that you've had multiple thousands of reports about social security fraud about checks that kept going to somebody's residence after they passed away. come on i cannot believe were finally addressing this. maria: for so many years that's all you heard from politicians we have to get rid of fraud,

abuse and waste and they didn't go with look to see where the money was going. >> the idea that somehow the nameless bureaucrat could do a better job than elon musk is absurd where are the directors of social security bed this is the first thing you check in the first day are we paying anybody we should be its billions and billions of dollars and they talk about viability social security that the first thing you should have done instead of raising taxes and cutting benefits initiative a number when these people should be ashamed of themselves. maria: right now we have the debate on how to come up with offsets to actually afford president trump's agenda being money for the border and money for defense and are talking about cutting into mandatory spending. instead of going back and looking at where the money is which is what elon musk and doge are doing cutting the mandatory spending. it is outrageous.

but we think there should be more volatility as we make our way to the next number of months and as you said we watch washington, d.c. and how they try to put together all the plans that they are suggesting it'll be very interesting headline news to pull things back and what other news do we have the meantime as we wait for the next quarter earnings. maria: fundamentals look good and could be getting better because of policy changes. why are people buying gold so much it is typically a hedge when you're expecting things could turn ugly you were to buy tangible items like gold gold is up seven weeks in a row as investors are watching president trump's tariff plans and hedging their bets, your thoughts on gold. >> you said the word is tariffs and what that might mean for the geopolitical relationship around the world and some of the historical friends and what that might mean for inflation it's an uncertainty play the stock market is near record high and

gold is reaching record highs, that is a nervous play we just haven't had any volatility it's been going straight up with nothing else to do whether we worry and honestly their downside risks ahead in the next number of months that might make you worried. what's the saying stocks climb a wall of worry what are the things you're worried about the future you see what's going on with the yields of the federal reserve is in no rush to cut rates, governor michelle bowman says she wants more progress on inflation before cutting rates further the yield on the ten year up five basis points at 4.51% the president of the philadelphia fed says he favors holding rates steady and the central bank policy is restrictive, tell us where the worry is? >> as you know scott bessent and team are worried about the ten

year yield afford half% that's where we have the tenure finishing the year that is not bad and if they don't reduce interest rates maybe they don't see any need trendy reason they need to and the economy continues to be growing which it is and that could be fine. inflation is slowing and a more slow pace that is okay we still think the inflation numbers from last week showed the pc the preferred measure is moving in this direction it is slowing down and it is all okay what we need to worry about is what is happening with earnings you can worry about inflation and we don't think inflation is going to surge from here we think of the ten year yield were to meander toward 5% that would be a buying opportunity that what else can we worry about we can worry about appointment in the employment figures look good. it's all things study as you go and while things are steady i guess we can worry but we feel

good about their needs outlook for the rest of the year. maria: chris mcmahon jump and wire yields up so much this morning. >> i think linda is right you said stocks climb a wall of worry that's her clients worry about they say you have enough to evidence and when i have enough what can take it away for me and a lot of times they flee to gold and those other types of things but i think the capital market has optimism, i was thinking about as i sat here and talk to myself what happens if we see the market hit all-time highs and we get 7000 and s&p what does that mean for 2025 what is the longer-term outlook were pretty optimistic but we see really significant downward pressure started in the first quarter of 2026 torture. maria: why. >> it cyclical as you know as some point people said i had enough and when they see all-time records for 18 months there is an appetite people start to flee the market was a normal reaction and is not tied to anything that other than it's

time to catch powder and put my powder in the drive-in. maria: because of evaluations are the areas you want to be invested and if we do in fact see valuation worries his hit some of these groups? >> we think the most obvious place to invest his large caps typical we like large-cap but large caps typical has been ignored for the tech stocks and are looking better. what are the best things that we see coming out in recent months is that the manufacturing sector is up over 50 and an expansion zone it hadn't been there for over two years and you're actually seeing growth around the world as well. valuations are there in earnings growth looks good in the broadening of earnings which was looked out for is starting to show itself. in early cyclical you see employment go up that's where we think the next good way will come from.

checking that doge is doing and elon musk is using those type of procedures are uncovering it and that's what we should be using we should be using 21st century technology to check on these things. i am delighted that were finding the waste fraud and abuse we know it existed we've known her for some time we just have to uncover it now we have to do something about it. maria: why are the democrats losing their minds over elon musk having access to all the stuff do they not recognize the importance of finding the waste and eliminating it. >> if i recognize the importance but i think you lost in the wilderness and they have nothing to hold onto right now politically in there looking for anything that they can that they can attach themselves to. they think it'll bring them back into power this will not do it. people appreciate what elon musk is doing and they don't have

access to personal information. of course they're being vetted. you know the algorithm of the procedure that they are using they are uncovering all of this and this is exactly what we wanted them to do and exactly what we hope for them to do. maria: no wonder the social security fund is expected to go insolvent, they're talking about social security retirement going insolvent in 2033. what is this mean for you and your colleagues looking to cut expenses to come up with the offset to execute president trump's agenda 76% of the spending a government goes to mandatory programs now questioning what's mandatory are you going to be cutting into the mandatory spending to come up with offsets any reconciliation package where it is that stan? >> if it includes waste fraud and abuse, yes we will be whether mandatory or discretionary.

and the governor has to pivot on allowing it expansion of natural gas imports into the state i think congress needs to look at this as a whole but also begin to tackle some of the state-by-state mandates like in california and new york and so forth that are restricting whole regions growth and prosperity, what do you think about that congressman. >> i think it's an excellent point and we need to look at it state-by-state in region by region. i will tell you i'm headed to houston, texas and i'll be speaking to an energy forum and my message to them we need to do a better job in the fossil fuel industry of telling people and telling the public how we decrease admissions here in the united states of america while growing our economy and we have done that and i don't think they tell that story enough. >> i agree. >> you kathy hochul threatening to take eric adams out of his

and ends on march the second. there is a dispute over the actual numbers of hostages remaining but somewhere around 70-ish is where we are with half of those may in fact be done we have considerable hostages that have to be released prior to march the second and phase two kicks in and the negotiations were supposed to start well over a week ago and the substance of them as you just indicated in the interview sunday are just about to get started. phase two is really tough and asked for a complete withdrawal of all idf forces out of gaza and in to the war and secondly hamas is going to give a governance of gaza and disarm,

those objectives need neither party wants to achieve the israeli's do not want to leave gaza because they know they're not going to leave hamas in control of gaza and they do what aleve thousands of hamas soldiers still in gaza. in the back of the mind of the israelis they intend to go back into gaza to finish the business that still remains unfinished as i stated. certainly hamas will not give up control these two objectives of phase two has always been irreconcilable heading towards that if something can be worked out certainly to everyone's satisfaction that would be great but as i indicated that is doubtful. here's the issue also if the hostages are not released if there is a stall in the hostages israel will likely go back into gaza as a result of the failure

of hamas to fulfill the deal and release the hostages. i think the likelihood of returning to hostility is more definite than the likelihood we will have a complete troops ending into the war permanently. obviously that is an aspiration and it's not realistic given where both parties are. >> it's too bad what a shame as hamas pushes back on the idea they will not be part of a governance of gaza on the other side of all of this. you have a senior iranian official boarded the u.s. and israel cannot do a damn thing about tehran nuclear ambition in the goodie keep building a nuclear weapon after secretary of state marco rubio met with benjamin netanyahu in jerusalem. benjamin netanyahu not to counter while meeting with rubio, watch this. >> i want to tell you that it's her loud and clear here in everywhere else.

today secretary rubio and i had a very productive discussion with our staff on a number of issues, none of them are more important that iran israel and america stands shoulder to shoulder encountering the threat of iran and we agree ayatollah must not have nuclear weapons. we also agreed that iran's aggression in the region has to be rolled back. over the last 16 months israel has dealt a mighty blow to iran tear access under the strong leadership of president trump and with your unflinching support i have no doubt that we can and will finish the job. >> what are your thoughts on that. i know iran is pushing back saying you are not going to stop us from building a nuclear weapon but at the same time president trump has instituted the maximum pressure campaign back on iran will that be enough to stop them from pursuing this?

>> most definitely. the reality iran is back on his heels away that's not been imported for years hamas and obviously has below has been seriously decimated they lost their strategic platform in syria in the military defenseless and being able to defend against any substantive error attack in their country because air defense system has been eliminated by israel. we have never seen iran in this desperate situation. what is left for them to develop a nuclear weapon to preserve the regime, that is what is left and we have to take that off the table. the united states and israel agree try to get them to voluntarily dismantle with a date certain and absolute verification of that with the alternative u.s. supported israel strike to dismantle the nuclear enterprise, that is where we are those of the two
