and america. your reaction? >> rational and consumer don't necessarily go together all the time. when you talk about the new cycle a lot of the new cycle tried to make people afraid as opposed to explaining them in the context of what they accomplished over the long-term. when they explain context, what people realize when you come from a position of strength like the u.s. economy like we have here you can negotiate better pricing, better deals and better opportunity sets for every american. just because prices may arise in the short run and tariff threats it doesn't mean the prices will be sustainably higher in the long run, the opposite is normally what happens when you see the circumstances that present themselves in the u.s. economy with rising corporate profits in pretty stable monetary policy, what you have is a recipe for a strong economic growth, you need to leverage that strength to be able to get the better pricing

and bring down the price of things or the cheating that goes on in the trade barriers that other countries put against us we have to leverage those things to get fair deals and i think that's what the president is trying to do. the interesting thing when you talk about tariffs it's interesting how he does it. in my view the tariffs implemented on china were lower than what i expected and the terrorist threat for mexico and canada were higher than what i expected. if you take a look at what he's actually doing and take a look at what's happening it's going to turn out better because the whole point is to leverage companies that are taking advantage of us most to be able to get them to the table to deal, the only way to do that is to be forceful and that's what he's doing. adam johnson what do you think about the tariff situation the ultimate goal president trump will get the semi conductor companies and automakers to make it in america.

>> i hope so but he can't suddenly decide that you want to make semiconductors here and start making them it takes two years to build a fab which is the place where they call where they make semiconductors. it will happen but it will take time and there will be dislocations in the meantime but i agree with jamie let me put a question to you we have three selloffs of 3% over the past three months one day selloffs, each of those was led by. i think this is a market that wants to go significantly higher how are you playing the salsa happen periodically. >> the same. every time you get a selloffs you get an opportunity. as long as corporate profit continues to rise that is a wearable market any chance for lower prices you should take them none of those fundamentals have changed i'm in total agreement. one of the things that's lost in this entire tariff conversation, trade barriers are not something that president trump came up with on his own, this is been

easiest things to do was to look for waste fraud and abuse, sometimes it's difficult to find and it's great this group is ticketed with new technology to find it. i heard data out there that there is $4 trillion and they don't know where it went. it is shocking how much money is being wasted and with the amount of money that is taken from americans in taxes we await to them and the american taxpayers to make sure every dollar is spent wisely. i think it's a great opportunity that we have right now. maria: is not just the biden administration, this is been going on years automatic checks going out to groups and places in retrospect you have to rethink why will we ever do t that. let's talk about president trump's new threat of tariffs on imports of cars, drugs and semiconductor chips. watch this. >> of you decided specifically what the auto tariff range should be. >> all probably tell you that on april 2 but it'll be in the

neighborhood of 25%. >> what about semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. >> of between 5% higher and it'll go substantially higher over a year but we want to give them time to common. as you know when they come into the united states and they have their plant or factory here there is no tariff. maria: congressman, your thoughts on the tariffs and the impact on the economy? >> on a broader picture i think it's important that there is a focus on america producing more goods than we do we produce where the economic powerhouse of the world but there's a lot of things that we moved offshore and we rely on other countries your previous segment talked about semiconductors we need to make sure were expanding as much domestic production as we can because the national security standpoint you don't want to be in a position where your enemies particularly can hold you hostage. i think the tariffs are way to signal that the united states is

and strength of the military make government work better for all americans. do you feel you have the votes for the big bill? >> i believe that we do and i will tell you the house leadership is doing a great job of getting buy-in from the segments of the conference and if you look at the house proposal to deal with all of the issues i think it's extremely important. yes we need to make sure were extending the tax cut and were securing the border in making america energy independent but we also need to rain and out-of-control spending things that doge has identified. the best way to do it is to do it in one bill get this passed into law and get it moving immediately. if we can turn these things around and rain in the spending and lower taxes it will spur the economy like it's never been spurred before. the one bill approach works. maria: how are you raining in the spy data for talking about spending more on defense of the border where are the offsets?
