american debt i think that is next argument trump administration has to start making. >> yesterday president trump talked about, tariffs i'm wondering if he's going into specific sectors now. not necessarily just countries, but reciprocal tariffs on sectors coming from those countries. >> yeah. well, i think that's, ultimately, par more effective. because, remember -- and i think you agree with me on this -- the tariffs are a tool, a lever to get what you want through some sort of negotiation. maria: yeah. >> so if you can drill down and put a specific tariff on a specific product, then they come back and say, well, hang on, let's talk about this. now you're having a substantive conversation as opposed to speaking in generalities and saying, oh, you're not fair. maria: and you have an opportunity to protect those things that are national security-related like semiconductor chips. 90% of the semiconductor chips for advanced semis are made in

taiwan. and the president's trying to make the case, bring that manufacturing back to the united states. will it be successful? >> god willing. people need to understand, tariffs are meant to protect your own country, your own domestic goods. and people, i don't think the average person thinks of a semiconductor when they think of tariffs, but they do think about avocados. when you place tariffs on mexico, for example, you're encouraging domestic production of avocados in california, florida and hawaii. and democrats should be willing to work with republicans to unleash avocado independence in the united states by deregulating industries here. >> it's a little bit of an eye-opener with some of the biggest complaints on auto tariffs coming from what we consider american manufacturers because over time so much of their components have lifted to mexico and canada, they're the ones complaining. i think that was an eye-opener for a lot of americans who in their mind associate these brands with american manufacturing.

maria: what do you want to say, joe, about kathy hochul and her plans to potentially take out eric adams? >> it's not going to a happen. she's not willing to the take the political risk going into her own tough re-election whether it's a primary from congressman ritchie torres on the democratic side is, whether it's a general election side from mike lawler on the republican side, she doesn't have is the political capital to really withstand the fallout from alienating a large chunk of democratic base voters, and that's african-americans. we saw mayor with adams at some is of the black churches in the outer boroughs, he is still liked in many parts of the city. >> remember, eric adams a came out and said, hey, federal government, you can't keep dumping all these migrants. maria: that's right. >> we are putting migrants in our schools, ps-242 had to shut down -- maria: yeah. and as soon as he opens up his mouth about the border, charges are put against him -- >> what a coincidence. maria: great panel, everybody.
