♪ stuart: it's a beautiful morning. feels like spring. good morning. it is 10:00 eastern time. let's get to the money. we have a significant market selloff, thou industrials down 532 points, nasdaq down 340. when you start expressing things in percentage terms you have big movement. the dow 30, only one of them in the green, the rest in the red, the dow one. 5% % in the s&p, 1.8%. ryan pain with me this morning. inflation isn't beaten, the economy is slowing down. you've got a huge trade fight going on and we have a record trade deficit which gives ammunition to trump, who says trading partners are ripping us off. does it seem like a great environment to be buying stocks? >> things are not as bad as you think. first off, we look at we don't

know what will happen with tariffs. one day tariffs on, tariffs off. tariffs a month out. the negotiating process going on, markets hate uncertainty. until we know where things land, i see why markets are volatile. look at the data, talking about gdp growth the first month of the year, a lot of importers in front of these tariffs, getting good to have the tariffs which makes the trade deficit look better than it is. that a little deceiving. seeing growth pickup which will have positive gdp growth is my best guess. if you look at the consumer, the coldest january since 1988. i was going to buy some good-looking suits. it's too hold to go out. there is pent-up demand. stuart: what are you buying? >> you want to broaden your exposure, not just the ai trade.

macron will consider using nuclear weapons to protect the allies come a that is a switch. china had a prickly and provocative response to the president's tuesday a speech, their embassy put out a statement, china, quote, is ready for any type of war, ready to fight to the end. russia going the other way, they are happy to see nato scrambling, happy to see the falling out with ukraine. they should remember trump is always negotiating, that's the point. trump believes america has gotten a bad deal from allies and rivals like. he wants a better deal. he is the america first president. that's a reversal of policy. that is why donald trump is making waves around the world. one last one. trump says to hamas if you hold hostages, if you do, you are dead. talk about a reversal from the biden years. brian brenberg occasionally disagrees with me. what does he have to say today? brian: i disagreed with you

stronger relationships with allies and played its advantages. why wouldn't we want america to do that? stuart: howard lutnick explains the strategy of tariffs on mexico and canada. >> you are our greatest trading partner, canada and mexico. if we are so important to you, why is the border wide open? why do we have to build a wall? they disrespected america. caravans coming in from mexico, and every criminal in the world, the president said, had enough. he says tariffs. they say hold on, hold on, we will start to respect you and they start doing work. stuart: if canada and mexico did secure the border it may go that way. will tariffs cut off? brian: that is what trump is saying. his precondition is you need to show us you don't just care

about this when we are threatening you. this is they only say i love you when they've gotten a fight. what trump is asking for is all the time, have our back. when criminals are pouring across your board, care about it before we tell you we are going to put tariffs on you. same in canada. the issue is bigger in mexico. that's a harder one because they've got more work to do but it is an issue in both cases. we all protest, we are all great allies but what have you done, canada, mexico, let's talk about it. stuart: another proposed change, trump issues an executive order to abolish the department of education, last month he said he wants the states to run the schools. >> why nominate linda mcmahon if you are going to get rid of the department of education? >> i told them linda, i hope you do a great job and put your self out of a job, ranked 40

out of 40 schools, we are ranked number one -- we spend more on people than any other country in the world and we are ranked at the bottom of the list, ranked very badly and what i want to do is let the states run schools. stuart: makes a good case, to abolish the department of education you need legislation for that. brian: to totally abolish it union legislation but you can do a lot to take power away from that department had to give it to parents. if you are paying a tutor every year and your kids's test scores got worse, wouldn't you fight the tutor? you would fire the tutor, it is a tutor the doesn't teach kids, spend time on other things. a lot of money, a small department gets paid a lot of money, american parents would rather have that money, spend on their own kids and see their tax scores go up. stuart: we will watch "the big money show" starting at 12:00 eastern time, see you later.

the administration announced who will lead a sovereign wealth fund. lauren: michael grimes has been picked to lead the sovereign wealth fund. it is a collection part for the revenue on foreign countries, donald trump issued an executive order for this just last month, does need congressional approval but trump said the fund could potentially finance buying tiktok. i bring that up because michael grimes advised elon musk and he led prominent tech ipos including meta, airbnb, he might know a thing or two about tech deals. stuart: let's move on to the market. nvidia is down 2%. lauren: more ai competition. first it was deep seek but now the chinese e-commerce company

stuart: commerce secretary howard lutnick is speaking about the tariffs. the tariff reprieve more likely won't just apply to automakers. expect to expand the reprieve to all products covered by usmca. he will speak with his mexican counterpart later. he says we need to see fentanyl death decline and expect the full reprieve announcement made later today, reconfirmed on april 7th.

edward lawrence on top of it all. we mentioned secretary lutnick wants to expand tariff relief. >> reporter: this is what the white house is trying to get to. whatever mexican tariffs as we will tariff them at the same rate, whatever canada tariffs us, we will tariff them at the same rate. the president has said he's open to conversations with any sector talking about how to navigate his new tariff environment and this affects everything from cans to packaging to automakers. the president said he spoke with ford, stellantis, and gm, after talking with those automakers he decided for right now that one specific industry has an extension of tariffs to april 2nd. >> at the request of companies associated with usmca the president is giving them an exemption for one month so they are not at an economic disadvantage so the three

companies he spoke to our stellantis, ford and general motors, they requested the call, the president is happy to do it, one month exemption. >> reporter: company like walmart asking for suppliers in china to cut prices by 10% the company spokesman telling fox business they are working to keep prices down. hasbro pointing to tariffs is the reason it will affect those companies's bottom line, not clear if they will make price increases, the head of the small business administration says this marks an opportunity for a fundamental shift from external to internal. >> there are going to be a million jobs available within the small business manufacturers. it will strengthen supply chains and national security, we know china is ready to engage in any kind of war and we need to bring those supply chains back and strengthen our main street, this is a great opportunity for rural america. >> reporter: donald trump says

that we know tariffs for any products made in the united states but you heard the headlines, howard lutnick saying this extension could expand to all items under usmca and that announcement could be later today. stuart: that has affected the market, bottom right-hand corner of the screen the dow is down 260 points. a few moments ago the dow was down 500 points. the news on tariffs is helping the market come back a little. the mayor of alberta, danielle smith, joins me now. you were a big trump support, you went to mar-a-lago, are you still a trump supported? >> i am a supporter of the american people. we have a wonderful relationship with the us. we have incurred will companies we have partnership with and we want to maintain that relationship. i can tell you 25% tariffs for

a monkeywrench into that relationship. i am hopeful based on what i heard from you this morning that there will be a reprieve. i'm watching x and truth social and it seems the story changes every two hours. job losses in the united states, market in disarray and chaos, the american people are beginning to understand a tariff war with canada, the juice isn't worth the squeeze, it causes more pain than benefit, let's get back to having the tariff free relationship. stuart: donald trump has delayed tariffs on cars from mexico and canada. do we regard that as real progress? >> if we can get to a renegotiation of usmca, that would be real progress. the report i heard suggested that would be extended to all products that have a 0 tariff. you have to remember 97% of product from canada have a tariff on them. is that where we are going? that would be positive and i

hope that could be maintained. stuart: there is expectation of an announcement, full usmca reprieve may come this afternoon. that's why our stock market has come back quite a bit, down 278 on the dow. prime minister trudeau dismissed the tariffs, he says trump wants to ruin canada's economy, trump fired back they are trying to use the tariff fight to stay in power. his popularity, trudeau's popularity has gone way up since the tariff war started. >> let me assure you three days from now there will be a new prime minister, the liberal party will choose a new prime minister and i suspect in short order we will get into an election and have another new prime minister by april but what we do know in canada is having somebody with four year mandates to get to the heart of negotiations will be in the interest of both our countries. i've been navigating to get to and election as soon as possible.

the election call will be precisely, i can't envision a scenario where justin trudeau has the support to stay on, you can rest assured there will be a new face on the table. stuart: ontario has banned american liquor. is alberta going to ban american liquor? >> we turned off the ordering system. we purchased $292 million worth of product each year but you have to remember what tariffs do, they told our producers we don't want to purchase your items anymore. the logical thing for canadians to do is to say companies are going to be heard and you have to consume more alberta beer and spirits so we are trying to be supportive of our own businesses and as soon as those tariffs get released, any country that is honoring the free-trade agreement, we will continue to do business with them.

stuart: we still have some red ink but not as bad as it was. howard lutnick is expecting an announcement, to make an announcement that gives a full reprieve to usmca products between the united states, mexico, and canada. that is why the market is coming back, the reprieve on some products from tariffs. the dow was down 500, now is down 300. we have considerable movement

in the market including tele-dock which is up 7%. %. lauren: there deal with eli lilly to offer weight loss direct to your house. they previously offered a compound but this is the actual drug. no longer in short supply. stuart: coming to my home. lending tree financial services. lauren: revenue jumped 95%, $260 million, stock is up 20% led by a doubling of home insurance. stuart: burlington stores. lauren: they are fourth-quarter earnings, grew 12%, fourth-quarter sales grew 5%, the ceo says we are off price. we are in the sweet spot in a market like this, consumers are nervous and everyone is worried about tariffs. stuart: you can tell volatility when you start quoting stocks in percentage terms especially double digits. lauren: i gave you three big winners.

stuart: we are learning about this $1.5 billion hack on a crypto exchange. lauren: the ceo was targeted, stunning detail from the new york times exposing this hack could have been avoided with the security upgrade. the ceo was making a routine transfer approval, clicked on a link from the security software company that the company uses, it's called safe but the link was a ruse. north korean hackers from the lazarus group planted malicious code and sent a fake link, the $1.5 billion in crypto stolen is a record. so experts are saying why didn't they upgrade their systems, this could have been avoided. stuart: what response does that gentleman have? who pays? lauren: everyone is made whole. but that's a lot of money. stuart: thanks.

my next guest was invited to meet with members of congress on proto-policy, the chief architect is greg de frisco. spell it out on simple terms. what do you want from congress on crypto? >> we want smart stable coin legislation, stable coins will power the future of us commerce to mystic land abroad and having clear legislation out of congress is going to make everybody's lives easier. stuart: stable coin maintains constant value usually at one dollar, correct? >> correct and if they are well constructed by us treasuries, they are very pro-america and pro-technology the easy win for both sides of the aisle. stuart: can't we do that now? what is wrong with now? >> we don't have them now. we have two big firms, circle and tether who are giving things the old way, hybrid way

so to speak and new firms like my own which allow any brand to issue stable coins but to do that we need clear issuance guidelines, the way they do it is putting a square paying in a round hole. of the when did you get satisfaction from members of congress you spoke to? are they sympathetic to you? >> absolutely. this issue needs the right framing. i've been in this industry a long time, full time in crypto since 2016. i visited dc during the first trump administration, avoided it like a plague during the biden administration. you have to give trump credit, he has breathed life into the legislative process, people from both sides of the aisle, democrat and republican building a crypto caucus coming from ripped torahs and they are getting these votes. it's the first time you are seeing congress and the senate and the white house working together on bipartisan

legislation and crypto is the issue they are doing that on. stuart: the president wants a crypto strategic reserve but a lot of people are not happy with the idea. the critics suggest this reserve should just have one crypto in it like bitcoin that has more than one, it becomes like a hedge fund. what's your opinion? >> i don't like any government assistance to the private sector. the libertarian side of the spectrum but that's my personal opinion. i don't think there is a right or wrong answer. i think it's missing the forest for the trees to focus on it too much because the real big deal is you are getting legislation coming out of both houses of government. stuart: will you be at the white house tomorrow? >> i wasn't important enough for that but they have good representation and they will get a good outcome. stuart: why weren't you invited?

california named robbie who called an ambulance because his daughter had an allergic reaction to something that she ate. he gets his bills, $600, but it said without insurance. he said i have insurance so he updates that, get to the new bill after it was sent through insurance, it was for $1300. he went viral on social media after sharing that experience. >> if i want to pay less for medical care i should cancel my insurance if my daughter needs lifesaving medical care? >> i don't know. i'm just letting you know that discounts only for patients who are uninsured. >> there is no way to put that discount on to an insured person, only uninsured people get that? >> that is correct. lauren: all because of the bill gavin newsom signed a year ago called ab 716 that prohibits surprise billing for emergency ambulance services but he says

that makes $0.00. >> i live in a state that is passing bills like this instead of building reservoirs so we have generational fires, we can get out of fire hydrants, it's all disheartening, a constituent here trying to do the right thing by their family and purchase insurance and it is a strange thing in this law to have it dictated by whether you are insured or not would be the deciding factor whether you get this discount and provided a better rate. lauren: he said it perfectly, when you do the right thing you are penalized and people are sick of that. i have a statement from the california department of managed health care. they say california law protects health plan members from surprise medical bills. members are only responsible for in network cost sharing when they use an in network facility. they go on to say filed a complaint, i hope robbie did.
