jonathan serri standing by live from the kennedy space center in florida. jonathan? there's a lot of anticipation and excitement over this rescue mission. reporter: yeah, there is a lot of excitement here. the rocket, a spacex falcon 9 with a dragon spacecraft perched atop it are on the launch pad behind me, launch pad 39-a at kennedy space center in florida. the rocket is poised to deliver a crew of four fresh crew members to the international space station and that will allow starliner pilots butch willmore and sunny williams to return aboard a separate spacex capsule that launched to the iss in september. at that time carrying two crew members and two empty seats. ahead of her departure from the space station, sunny williams handed over command of the space station to a russian colleague. >> i promise you, we are actively trying to find the passage back to the place we

were before. reporter: who knew she be quoting hotel california when this mission started back in june. it all started as an eight-day flight test of boeing's new starliner spacecraft. it developed intermittent thruster problems on the way up to the space station. boeing determined the issue could be managed safely for the return flight but nasa decided not to risk it and brought starliner home autonomously in early september, and reassigned the test pilots to a full mission aboard the space station. the timing has become political, with president trump calling on spacex ceo elon musk to expedite butch and sunny's return and the president also blaming the biden administration for their extended stay in space. nasa officials say they had already planned, were already planning an expedited return to get ahead of a busy launch schedule in april, swapping a new spacex capsule, delayed in production, for an older model, will allow crew 10 to launch

>> well the tariff, liz, just part of donald trump's overall game plan, and i know the markets are concerned about tariffs and most economists oppose tariffs but if you look at his overall game plan which includes extending the trump tax cuts, doge, deregulation, you look at everything he's doing and i think overall donald trump is right that in the long run, it's going to be much better off for americans. i think we got to calm down, give him the benefit of the doubt. he's earned it and we know tax cuts work and the regulations work because he did it in the first term and gave us a wonderful economy with very little inflation. liz: the other thing too is epa chief lee zeldin just broke the news late in the day. the breaking news is this , mr. elder, larry, that he is going to rollback and get rid of 31 biden era climate change, environmental regulations. he's trying to unleash. he's saying trillions of dollars in regulatory costs and hidden taxes he's going to wipe out lowering costs for american families. what do you think?

>> well i agree. the climate is always changing. what president biden said is that it's the number one threat to the planet. are you kidding? it is not. and all the money we're spending for climate change in my opinion could be rechanneled for other things. we need to drill, baby drill, as donald trump said he wants to do and stop trying to force us from a fossil fuels-based economy to renewable ones which is more expensive and will hurt the very people that the democrats claim to care about, poor people. liz: what do you make of this story? we've got reports coming in that the trump administration aids and officials are upset with commerce secretary howard lutnick, they are frustrated over his economic messaging and tariff messaging. politico is reporting and we're hearing other reports he could take the fall for what's going on with the tariff messaging. what do you make of that? >> well, you know, i don't really get too much into the entry and there is always going to be that and supposedly he's gotten ahead of his skiis

to the states. better education is closest to the kids with parents, with local superintendents, with local school boards. i think we'll see our scores go up with our students when we can educate them with parental input as well. liz: that was it, right? that's education secretary linda mcmahon to the news that the education department is laying off half its workers there in d.c. it's about 2,200 workers we're hearing. there's a big fact though missing in the coverage. senator joni ernst has already reported the education department is one of many federal headquarters in d.c. mostly empty, by nearly 85%. you could literally shoot an arrow or throw a bowling ball down its hallways and not hit anybody. why? because the senator says the education department employees refuse to come into the office they choose to telework. joining us from senate education markwayne mullin. senator, can you please tell us

break this down in what's going on at the education department because the teacher's union and democrats are really angry with what's happening. what do you think? >> what they are doing is they're defining the definition of doing the same thing expecting different result right? a 1979 when we started the department of education we were number one in the world in education. today, we rank 34th. if this is a business, they would have shut down a long time ago. along the way, they spent over a trillion dollars trying to improve themselves putting thousands of people to work and all they have done is require teachers to teach to pass a test which are federal requirements? they required the student council that's there to comply with all these rules coming from washington d.c. that have to be student-led. the school board there no longer can actually run their school. they try to keep away from lawsuits that could be handed down from the department of education and what the president trump and secretary mcmahon wants to do is put the schools

back in charge of teaching their kids. why would the teacher-student union be upset about teachers being able to do their job without little large government looking over their shoulders constantly. liz: it's interesting what you said, senator. the bureaucracy in the education department. we saw data that the education department help center didn't pick up the phone and answer 4 million calls from the students. >> that's right. liz: yet they received 1.5 trillion in federal student loans and got 190 billion bucks, you know, basically during the pandemic but then we see school administrators, school bureaucrats, you know, the number of them, about 700% where the number of teachers that, that number grew less than half of that. >> right, and at the same time, we have our education failing our students. now these teachers that are part of this teacher's union which i don't think necessarily represents the classroom. they represent their union,

which is a problem within itself, but at the same time, we seen our students education suffer along the way. what is wrong with trying something different? and what we need to do is look at what was working prior to 1979. we put it in the teacher's hands and in the local government. we allowed the people in oklahoma and stillwell, oklahoma or tulsa to decide what was best for their students and let the people in new york decide what was best for their students, and it was successful. liz: yeah, i mean, we fought world war i, and world war ii without an education department. senator markwayne mullin we appreciate you so very much, sir for joining us. thank you. >> liz thanks for having me on. liz: now please listen to this. >> president trump turns the white house into a tesla showroom. >> that's one way to stabilize an oligarch's business empire. donald trump did something illegal today. liz: would you please stop it? stop it with the oligarch talk.

into your xfinity voice remote. liz: welcome back. we've got action coming in. republicans are hitting back at democrats. they are taking the trump resistance a step too far. they have been threatening a government shutdown. democrats used to be against that under biden. fox news senior national correspondent aishah hasnie on capitol hill with more. reporter: good evening to you. well, house speaker mike johnson released a video this week calling out house democrats who have previously blasted a government shutdown. take a look at this , with me. the likes of former speaker nancy pelosi, maxine waters, aoc, saying a shutdown is a huge national security concern. well, now, democrats are threatening a shutdown because they didn't get what they wanted. congressman glenn ivy, for example, whose district includes 50,000 government employees who could be furloughed if there's a

i'll just start oint by pointing out to your listeners that last year medicare issued about $100 billion of improper payments. look, president trump, i'm up here republicans are here to save medicare. we want it to deliver great healthcare but we don't want money to be wasted. maybe we could take some of that money we'll save and help more with their prescription drugs, but the hypocrisy is as you pointed out once upon a time the democrats wanted to go through this waste, fraud and abuse but the republicans are actually the ones doing it. liz: i mean the inspector general for social security found 72 billion in improper payments from fiscal years 2015 to fiscal 2022 and then it exploded under joe biden. we saw a number half a trillion dollars in improper payments that went out the door under joe biden, so that means higher taxes for everybody to pay for that waste, right? >> yeah, and i think that number actually approached a trillion dollars when it's all said and done, a trillion dollars of improper payments, but this adds to the size of our deficit. look we're spending 2 trillion

more than we're taking in. if we could find half of that through waste, fraud and abuse and then maybe go on a little bit of a spending diet, maybe we'll work back towards that balanced budget which will help bring interest rates down for americans. liz: i gotta tell you something. we listen to ray dalio, big hedge fund titan, big guy on wall street. he's saying he's warning so are other wall street pros like mary meeker the u.s. treasury market faces a crack-up. that there's basically like a car crash inside that bond market if we could put it that way where the treasury markets worldwide are having trouble digesting the flood of u.s. government overspending that democrats don't seem to grasp, don't seem to understand, that when that happens, yields could, the federal reserve could lose control of rates and we're not being, you know, paranoid crazy here but these are the scenarios being played out on wall street. the fed loosens control of the bond yield, those bond

let's get you updated when elon musk says is the biggest democrat scam of all. he says it's one of the biggest sources of fraud in the u.s. government. the one and only hillary vaughn is joining us now live on capitol hill with the story on this one. hillary what's going on? reporter: good evening liz. when you think non-governmental organizations you think charity but elon musk says he sees fraud. he told fox business that the majority of fraud is being funneled through these ngo's and the money is not being spent to do good. a lot is a scam with no oversight of how taxpayer money is being spent. under biden's term taxpayer cash spent on non-profits topped $128 billion spread out over 70,000 non-profits. the department of government efficiency has honed in on these non-profits as easy ways to slash billions in government fraud and abuse. republicans on capitol hill say because of doge's work, taxpayer money is being saved. >> the trump white house, the administration, will send to
