that's it for today. have a great week! >> a fox urgent, and it involves your money. we are getting a first look right now at how u.s. and world stock markets are react to go america's first first downgrade of its credit every. i'm sandra. we are monitoring the news desk and we are looking at a dip at this point? >> it's a significant sell off we are seeing in the stock futures. this is giving us a good idea what we are going to see when we wake i am tomorrow. markets are plunging right now. the futures are all falling by more than 2%. to give you an idea how severe this fall is, remember just a

couple weeks ago when they didn't come to an agreement on that debt deal and the sunday night before we saw markets sell off 100 points. we are now seeing nearly a 300-point sell off in those dow futures so we are likely to see some big sellings in the morning trade. we are also seeing selling in overseas markets, new zealand as well as the israeli markets, seeing significant sell offs there. just less than an hour from now we are likely to see more selling. and also we are taking a look at oil and gold futures. this is a very good indication of what this market is predicting that this debt downgrade will do. lots of concerns what it will do for the recovery. powell futures right now sinking by more than three dollars. we're now looking at oil trading in the $83 range. lowest level that we've seen in quite some time. and investors are certainly seeking the safe haven of gold. gold up nearly 40 bucks.

sharper. president obama's former advisor and now campaign strategist, david axelrod, said s&p's move was a tea party down grade. john mccain of arizona saying it's on president obama's shoulders that he never gave a clear path during the debt ceiling debate. and chris wallace was asking the head of s&p about his been about who bears the blame, republicans or democrats? >> in this country both congress and the administration are jointly responsible for the congress of fiscal policy. so this is really not about either political party, it's about the difficulty of all sides in finding, you know, a consensus around fiscal policy choices now and in the future. >> we are live in washington tonight. standard and poors is saying no single party is to blame but the finger pointing continues. >> of course. democrats and republicans each

blaming the others. for example, senator john kerry is laying the blame squarely on the tea party. >> there were some people in the republican party, and mitch mcconnell even admitted this, that wanted to default he said there were people in his party that were willing to shoot the hostage. in the end they found out the hostage is worth ransoming. this isn't did ransom, it's about our nation. >> and a former presidential candidate, senator john mccain, also placed the blame in a different place and responded to the accusation. >> i think it's a failure of presidential leadership when you don't put forward a plan, a specific proposal to work off of. previous presidents certainly have when we are in a crisis. by the way, talking about hostages? lately the democrats have been calling us terrorists. so we need to lower that level of rhetoric. >> and house budget committee chairman paul ryan, and a republican from wisconsin saying

both parties share the blame equally for the credit down grade. >> and we were reporting a call for the top mannan, tim geithner, to leave, and now some news about his future. >> apparently he's not going to be leaving. a statement from the treasury department today saying geithner has decided that he will stay and that he looks forward to dealing with the challenges ahead, big once as though they may be. and a statement from the press secretary, jay carney, the president asked him to stay on and he welcomes the secretary's decision to do so. and others call for his resignation yesterday, as you noted. >> thank you very much. live from washington. some world leaders holding emergency conference calls about the stability of financial markets. part of it a reaction to the u.s. being downgraded by standard and poors but they are also dealing with a euro debt crisis because of a cash problems in spain and italy and a growing list of nation that is are trying to avoid financial collapse like we've seen in

greece. deputies from a group of 20 and a group of seven talking over the phone to try to come up with a noon avoid disaster. family members from the victims of yesterday's helicopter crash in afghanistan expressing to to the world their heartache. a senior military official confirming all the bodies have been recovered. investigators working to determine what caused the crash that killed 30 american fighters, among them 22 navy seals. as you might imagine, their families are hurting. >> there's three navy seals here yesterday. and about the news of my son. >> he knew -- >> it was something he was trained for it, it was something he wanted. >> he loved philadelphia, north catholic, and he loves all you guys and all his friends. all the kids in the area. >> meanwhile, word of more intense fighting today in that same area where the chinook helicopter went down.

doug is with the news live in washington. doug, it's so important that the u.s. retrieve that downed helicopter. >> it sure is. it will reveal clues as to whether the chopper really was brought down by a grenade or whether an internal explosion or pilot error cause it had to crash. 22 from the elite seal team six, the same special ops force that killed bin laden, although we hear none of the victims were actually involved in the bin bin laden raid. there were also 58 commandos onboard the chopper. speaking on meet the press, john mccain said he expressed how many americans feel when he said i'll be interested in what was involved. >> we're getting more reaction from the families. what else or they saying? >> in addition to the incredible devastation and pain the families are going, to we are hearing stories of tremendous pride about the talented young men who rose to navy seals, a

terrible tragedy, whether it turns out to be a furnishing point. >> and we are learning more about some of the victims of the tragedy. petty officer michael said he decided back in high school he wanted to join the military. recently became an uncle and looked forward to seeing his family again this thanksgiving. and a sargent was helping her girlfriend raise her daughter. we were told he was planning to propose to her when he returned home. and john brown, that you just heard him talking about, was a trained paramedic. his mom called him today a gentle giant. a police officer calling what happened to one of his officers an assassination. and we will update you as they search for the suspect. and these siblings say they

>> eight people reported dead tonight before the gunman went on a ram paneling before police shot him. in northeast ohio, about 40 miles south of cleveland. it began with a family argument. we are told the gunman shot five people in one location and then went to a different location and shot two other people. an 11-year-old boy among the victims. police now saying, listening to 911 calls that were made. in one the woman on the line saying that her boyfriend was the shooter. and we are learning much more about the chaotic scenes in san diego playing out this weekend which left a shooting suspect and a police officer dead. the police chief now reporting the suspect left a suicide note before he shot officer jeremy

henwood in the face while he was sitting at an intersection in his squad car. police were pursuing the 23-year-old man and found him at an apartment building. when he pulled out his gun again, officers shot and killed him. but they believe a second suspect was involved. we are told the police officer killed was a captain in the u.s. marine corps reserves and had just returned from a long deployment in afghanistan. the latest on the search for the search for three renegades teenagers from florida. the two brothers and his sister shot at police. officers were trying to pull him over for speeding. hours after that three people wearing masks robbed a georgia bank and police said they left the scene in a similar car, a white he is das -- sedan. now their mom begging them to

turn themselves in. >> only mom knows what good people you are inside. please prove me right and everybody wrong by doing the right thing now and turning yourselves in. >> according to an online posting the daughter, lee grace, she likes to, quote, shoot guys and wreck cars and cause mayhem with my siblings. the siblings are expected to be carrying an arsenal of weapons. well, a lot of questions on a college campus tonight after a teenager was tazed to death. it happened at the university of cincinnati in ohio. authorities say campus police were called to break up a fight early yesterday. and that's when they say the 18-year-old approached an officer with his fist. they said the teenager was ordered to stop and when he didn't the officer shot him about with a stayser and put him into handcuffs. he then bent into cardiac arrest and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

>> people might start a fight , but you don't really have to use a taser. >> in the vast majority of situations, you know, you get right back up afterward. >> the office who are uzed the taser now on paid leave. police are investigating, but sofar they say they have not found any evidence of any wrongdoing by that police officer. in iowa an elderly couple is missing. authorities saying they vanished under some very serious circumstances. 80-year-old bill wood and his wife kay have not been seen since july 30th when a fire destroyed their home. one person died, no identification on that person. then the past week the couple's pickup truck was found in kansas city. now hundreds of people are taking part in a search along every roadway out between iowa and kansas. >> any information you want to share to help, it's on facebook. we want answers. >> family and friends also posting flyers with the woods

fatall and shane bauer and sara shourd. sarah was released earlier this year. but the other two are expected to be released. >> today should have been the day. seven days ago they said it would take one week to formally sentence the three american hikers but still no word as the world waits to hear the verdict. whether iran will respond to american calls for leniency. there are also, i should add, conflicting reports coming out of iran whether the hikers will be set free. according to the local satellite press tv today, iran's ambassador to iraq rejected reports about their imminent release. however yesterday the foreign minister said he hopes the verdict will result in the hikers' freedom. on july 31st the lawyer representing the three said his

clients were innocent of charges of illegal entry and spying. in a statemented to the u.s. state department tells fox news, and i'm quoting "the trial of joshua fatall, shane bauer and sarah shourd has been concluded and a result should be forthcoming. shane and, it is time to reunite them with their family. >> they said they illegally entered iran and accused them of being spies, which carries the beth penalty. the two have been held in an iranian prison ever since. sarah was released in february, 2010, for medical reasons after 410 days of solitary confinement. if the court does indeed reach a guilty verdict here, their attorney is saying the time bauer and fatall have spent in

>> this is the fox report. it's the bottom of the hour. time for the top of the news. eight people are dead, including a child after a shooting rampage police say was sparked by a family argument. it happened in ohio. police saying five people killed at one home and then two other people at a nearby location before police killed the gunman. family and friends remembering tonight 30 americans, many of them navy seals, who died in that chopper crash in afghanistan. all of the bodies we're told were recovered. the soldiers just helped army rangers that had come under fire.

we are watching the stocks futures on this sunday following the first credit downgrade in american history. asia set to open in about 21 minutes. but how much weight does that s&p downgrade, the credit rating system really carry? we are joined by sandra at the fox business network. and the futures are telling a story. >> the futures opened at 6:00 p.m. eastern time and they were very telling of what we are probably going to see in the stocks market tomorrow morning. dow, nasdaq and s&p 500s are plunges out of the game giving us an idea the sell-off over the last couple weeks, over down 10% the last couple weeks and that's lakely to continue. the dow currently plunging by 2 other points and we've seen it down by 300 so we will be watching it closely. >> neil cavuto was on the fox business report friday. we talked about the fact you could see this monday regardless of the downgrade. it had more to do with the

economy. >> it's an interesting point. many were confused after the decision was made to raise the debt ceiling. everyone warned if we hadn't done that things were going to be horrible. >> and look at it now. >> look at it now. we've seen markets selling off. economy is not in good shape, bottom line. >> the economic indicators we see on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, whether it's unemployment or manufacturing, do not render a strong economic recovery. these markets had been pricing in a lot of bad news, let alone the fact that there's been a lot of calls for this actual debt downgrade. sometimes, sometimes we see markets that sort of come back once the news is actually out. so we could see a lot of volatility here. we are down big. oil is selling off. this will be a minute by minute thing. >> i think i know how you will answer this because you give the advice often. how should investors be positioning themselves? >> you never want to panic. it's important to have a diverse portfolio, and any financial

advisor will tell you that. there will be some financial houses that will spook the individual investor. i was looking at the european bank and they said they are shocked. brace for turmoil the next couple of weeks. that could be the case but make sure you are always position today handle that. we've seen a lot of investors buying gold recently. they don't like what's happening to the u.s. dollar so they would rather own a hard asset. also if you don't want to get out of the stock market all together, we've seen strength in consumer staples. those are stocks in companies that produce things we need on a daily basis, whether it's food or tissues. you don't have to bail out all together but it will be a situation that could be very volatile. we've seen that the last couple of weeks. the best thing to do is talk to your financial advisor and don't panic. >> hang on. it will be bumpy. >> while you were talking, i have the fox news app going on my i-phone and i'm checking the wires. we're down. >> we are down big. this is not to be avoided.

this is a significant sell off in a market where we are already in a correction mode. and we sold off more than ten percent since the hays of the year. this is a significant sell off and looks like it will continue to monday morning. not only that oil prices down about three bucks. we are looking at $83 a barrel whether just a few weeks ago we were staring at $100 right in the face. while that might be good news if you are a driver out there, not great indication about the health of our economy. >> that's a good perspective because my eyes got big, i thought gas prices will come down. so much does the s&p downgrading really count in all of this? >> it's big. jp morgan estimated it would raise borrowing costs by $100 billion for the united states. this is significant. this is our coveted triple a rating that has now been stripped. keep in mind this is by the s&p. there is also moody's and fitch which have not followed suit. big investors like warren

buffett said he thinks this shouldn't have happened and he thinks we should have a quadruple a rating rating and wt see a second recession. the treasury is slamming back saying this was not warranted, it is a $2 trillion math mistake. there are so many reasons somebody could go up against s&p and said you guys haven't already been right in the past, why should we believe you this time? but you have to take it seriously because this is a very real situation right now. >> warren buffet would give this nation, even with all its debt, a quadruple rating? >> his words. >> i think we need him to give us the rate . the story is breaking wide open. in less than 20 minutes asian markets open across the country. >> just less than an hour from now and right now all indications point to the fact we will see asian markets sell off hard to because in overnight trade questioning saw new zealand and the israeli market sell off so much it had to halt trading. and not to panic or spook anybody, one thing you want to

watch in the stock futures index, i contacted the exchange on which these trade, five percent limits. we are down over 2% now. if we were to see a sell off as much as 5% in the stock market, they would halt trading for at least a few minutes to bring calm to the mark. it doesn't look like we will reach such significant levels , but it's better to be forewarned. >> i remember in time we've seen it plummeting at the height of the recession where they would implement that. sandra -- i almost called you son draw bullock. you are gorgeous. >> thank you. >> sandra smith. and we are monitoring the u.s. credit downgrade. the futures are giving us some idea what might be coming. tracking the latest developments as overseas market begin to peel open through the night. a two-hour special will also air right here on fox news channel. so fox business network and fox news channel at the same time.

and opted to get rid of it by dragging it into the woods. we have been following the stocks futures ahead of tomorrow's opening bell. in minutes the asian markets set to open just a couple of minutes away. let's check back now with sandra smith of the fox business network who is watching it all. sandra. >> we are moments away from the stock markets opening in asia where they are expected to see heavy selling after the s&p down grade. in fact we are seeing markets plunge here. the dow, s&p and nasdaq futures all plunging by more than 20% right now. indicating we will see a lower open when they open tomorrow morning. dow is down 245 points. off the lows of the session we had been down at much as 300 points but still significantly lower. and not just stocks plunging, oil also plunging on the debt downgrade, signaling there's lots of concerns what this will do to the economic recovery.
