we have been at this sense a week when it went to puerto rico and units down there with drew and repond and search and rescue and hazardous materials. and it ripped through the bahamas. and we had units down there. this is our thir hit coming in north carolina and our head quart ares in fort smith,virginia. i am actual i calling you from st. louis. i have actually had helicopters that went to look at the situational awareness in wilton. and then helicopters and recognizance airplanes and ready to go to do surveys in the morning.

i grew up military as a depeppedent and it makes it sound like a military mission. you have a command center set up in st. louis. that's what it is like. >> that's what it is like. we are armed service here and we do have a military role you heard that you have the red cross. anditates, and you have all manner of folks to join in with the response. cthey are preparing for the advance of the torm.

we have a large number of ship hudson harbor. and seeing them pull out. thursday and friday all of the naval fleet video of everyone leaving. it is that eerie seeing that much power moving away and you obviously had a plan for this. is it precipitated from katrina or would you have done it anyway? >> i think we would have done it anyway . but there are lessons in katrina and caused us to fasillitate and what cooperative fashion. and i think we are better prepared for this one and these are unpredictable things and the people on the water at this point and in the path of the storm. it will be an exciting time and we hope they are not in harm's way. we have set airports off in

advance of the storm to make sure they knew it was a dangerous and they were not in contact. we have been able to monitor this. and so far all of the search and rescue is minor cases. it is part of a warning system. i had not heard that. it is a search and rescue missions out on the water and it would be interesting to see that. >> absolutely. and they are exciting when they do happen. of course, when it happens, it is not as great on video as it was when you were there . we make those available and we hope we have to have that. that would be a tolts win for

us. and a lot of coastal that have to come from puerto rico to the northern climates. >> you know you have a lot of real estate in the massachusetts coastline as the storm is going toward boston. vice admiral robert parker with the u.s. coast guard tonight. >> thank you, harris, good luck in new york. >> the latest on the track of hurricane irene. we hear of tornado in three states in the northeast. maria has more. >> greg, that is great. possible tornados in north carolina and delaware and so it is an unfortunate situation and this is a aspect of hurricanes that we have to deal with in the outer rain band. there is a lot of rotation with the hurricane and they do make landfall and interact with the land. there is friction on the

surface and that causes additional rotation and you get tornados with the storm. there is a tornado watch in affect new york city and down in portion says of jers yedel delaware. and there is a tornado warning northeast of philadelphia to tell you about for southern bucks county in outheast pennsylvania. and montgomery county. there is a lot of rotation. there could be a tornado on the ground. it is located cent miles from the south of ocean city maryland. we are continuing to track that center and it is located on the ocean. current temperatures are not warming up to be good for rapid intense casication . right fow in the 70s. it doesn't mean like it will not warm up rapidly. and because irene is a large hurricane, we are not

expecting weakening. and as far save as cape hatteras. scen miles per hour. and north as philadelphia in the international airport. 52 miles per hour was reported. that is a large area to experience tropical storm force meisture. we had 14 inches of rain in north carolina. and all the way up to the southern portions of canada. it will cause all kinds of problems with flooding and the track of the storm system is expected to track in a north, northeast ward direction at cane miles per hour. it could be a landfall in western porgs of long island. and i think rainfall will be around 10 or 12 p.m. and that

will o.k. cellerate northbound. and still a significant tropical storm. and heads to the new england. and 8:00 p.m. sunday and then long it will be a low pressure system. >> maria, molina, we'll check back with you. >> long gone. if we can get to monday now. >> you hear maria and our team all day long and week long saying how it is going to be. those ofulse in new jersey and new york don't always heed the warningings. many people are choosing not to get to safer ground. new york mayor bloomburg and new jersey governor chris christi. this is what they said earlier. >> i am not sure what to think. it is the first time this has happened. >> the stores are boarded up.
