trapped. a reporter whom we were speaking with us katherine underwood is trapped in an area of road along with residents. another resident called to report that 21 people are trapped at moore's hotel at the bottom of that spillway area in a town called pratssville new york. it's a rural area with not a high density population but certainly this dam a matter of great concern. a level "b" emergency and working to find out more about it. we'll have more as we get it on fox news channel. let's go to mike tobin is following things. he is in rockaway beach, new york. >> another band of rain is whipping through this area right

now. not too much water from it. it is more water compounds the problem and clearing out all the people hoping to get a look around to see the destruction. we can show it to you. in an area as broad channel there was a house that was built on a foundation of stilts that went down in the water. the rising tide it all served to reach up and tear the house off the foundation. if you look at the debris a boat has been slammed up against the debris that used to be a house. you see a jet ski that was deposited in the center of town as the floodwaters receded. you see a lot of debris out on the street. mostly are trees that have been knocked down. the trees knocked down the power lines and we have some 4 million people who are without power right now. they can't expect to have lights turn on anytime soon. as long as you have conditions like this with the rain picking

coming in and still the possibility of more flooding. these waves came whipping in. they came underneath the boardwalk and straight through across to what is called broadway where they did a lot of damage to a lot of homes. we were talking to the nassa uconn executive being the western part of long island. he said they are just beginning assessments and he believes that the damage costs will run to easily millions and millions of county in nassau county alone. so they begin the process of trying to see how much damage is done. these residents begin the process of coming back looking into their homes and seeing how much damage is done. it's hard to believe that a lot of people haven't suffered a great deal of damage. there are a bunch of people looking to see has gone on.

most rain in any month, 7 inches from this storm, 20 inches in the month of august for rain in new york city. that is breaking records in philadelphia for your rainiest month of all time. you will hear tropical storm jose. it won't affect anyone. a lot of time to watch this one, though. it is a big powerful wave and probably by tuesday or wednesday we'll have tropical storm on our hands. that is the replacement for katrina. >> all right. whatever they want is just fine. you've been a great man, thank you. again, word from the white house and all the president's men and women the president will speaking regarding the response to hurricane irene. it was a coordinated effort all all the way up the east coast.

it affected more people we believe in large population areas than any hurricane in many decades. when you include the population of philadelphia and new york and all the way down the coast, down to the raleigh area, now up in the boston area and into canada, when a storm we have just witnessed. folks looking out in the west saying there is nothing to this, they are wrong. we are continuing to watch gilboa dam up in the catskills. our indication they are having a level "b" emergency except they got way too much rain than the hills and valleys can handle. they are working on emergency just. our correspondents are on their way are there hey, the new guy is loaded with protein!
