in our post debate spin room last night. was there a clear winner? joining me with analysis, frank luntz. he watched the debate with a focus group of 30 florida gop voters. frank, welcome back. >> it is a pleasure. i have to tell you the debate this is one of the most significant to hour segments of politics i've seen in the last 15 years. had you a winner. you had a loser and it shook up the field. >> sean: we'll see in the polls as they emerge. last night your focus group felt romney ran away with it, right? >> it was more than rick perry fell short of expectations that what he said and more importantly, how he said it, left these primary voters cold. perry's language is very close to what a typical republican prime -- primary voter would say. how how you articulate and execute that articulation matters. rick perry made a big mistake on the issue of immigration.

>> sean: this is about immigration and it got a lot of play on the blogs today when he used the term i don't think you have a heart if you are not agreeing with him. >> weppch put 400 million dollas of our taxpayer money into securing that border. we've got our texas ranger recon team there is now. i supported arizona's8w.ñj immigration law, by joining in that lawsuit to defend it. everyday i have texans on that border that are doing their job. if you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there, by no fault of their own, i don't think you have a heart. we need to be educating these children. because they will become a drag on our society. >> sean: as he's talking about security, it is high. as soon he went into that phrase, but if you say we should not educate our kids it

begins a big dive. >> what i tend to do when i'm watching, i let the people do the dials. then i ask them during the commercial break, what happened? in this case i ran over and i said why did it tank there? their answer, conservatives have been attacked by liberals for their life, for having no heart. it is a typical refrain you hear again and again. when a conservative says, to another conservative, you have no heart, that's unforgiveable. the entire room looked at this and said, i don't want this. >> sean: interesting. one of the things i'm going to ask you about is can governor perry learn from this? same topic immigration with him and senator santorum. >> most folks who want to go to the state of texas or any other state have to pay the full boat. the point is why are we subsidizing. they can go they have to borrow, find other sources to be able to go.

watching were angry with him. when had you that exchange between him and santorum, the fact they are speaking over each other, agitates republicans. the opponent in this is not each other. the opponent, if you are a republican is barack obama. when you have rick perry delivering these attack thats against mitt romney and others the people watching are saying, please for focus on barack obama, not on your eight colleagues standing up there. >> sean: speaking of the focus group. you got verbatims from them about the debate. why don't we run through that. i have a question on the other side of it. >> describe, in a word or phrase, what you think of the current front-runner rick perry? j reluctant. >> defensive and inauthentic. >> nonspecific. >> under size sieve. >> ill prepared. >> stiff and boring. >> not serious enough. >> targeted. >> nondirect. >> not fully prepared. >> how many of you were considering voting for him

before tonight? look at those hands. what happened? what advice do you give rick perry to recapture that friend runner status? >> he called out social security's ponzi scheme has an opportunity to talk about social security reform. tell me how we are going to fix it? >> he's breaking the reagan rule and being very combative. he needs to stop that. >> bash obama. >> he needs to be more prepared and get not point and answer the question. seems to be lost in space. >> before he showed strength and leadership and now he' being divisive and combative. >> he needs to be bolder and more direct. he tap danced around a lot of questions. i can't think of specifics. he wouldn't go directly to the answer. >> do you want to see rick perry as the candidate debating barack obama in the fall? >> no! >> absolutely not. >> god no. >> he could never go toe-to-toe with barack obama.

debate isn't until the middle of october. he still communiques in a way that republican primary voters appreciate. propose, not oppose. tell people what you are for not what you are against. don't be going after your opponents up there. keep your fire on barack obama. that is what republican primary voters wanted you to do. >> sean: how does he overcome the fact he's at odds on illegal immigration with a significant portion of the conservative base of the party? >> you acknowledge it. candidates who look you straight in the eye, acknowledge there are some differences in your philosophy. but when it comes to adherence to the law there is no compromise. if he's tougher, when it comes to enforcement, that's how he survives the immigration issue. >> sean: frank luntz, appreciate it. >> a congressional hearing turns ugly after solyndra executives refuse to answer questions. now there's new shocking

to the 535 million dollar taxpayer funded loan. instead, they all took the fifth. let's take a look. >> mr. chairman, i have tremendous respect for this subcommittee and the important oversight rule that it -- oversight role that it plays. as much as i wish to answer questions i've been advised by my counsel it is better course to assert my constitutional right to decline to answer questions under the fifth amendment. >> sean: this investigation is far from over. moments after the hearing concluded the house energy and commerce chairman took to the microphones and had this message for solyndra and the obama white house. >> we're not done. we didn't get any answers today on legitimate questions posed by republicans and democrats. but, at the end of the day we have to find out what happened to this taxpayer money. half a billion dollars. >> sean: while the congressional investigation continues "the new york times" has uncovered even more damning evidence tying solyndra to the white house.

front page article reveals that solyndra lobbyists met with an obama aide, white house adviser valerie jarrett three times. these lobbying efforts cost the company nearly two million dollars. in the end that price tag may have been worth it for solyndra they were handed a taxpayer check for more than half a billion dollars. here with reaction republican congresswoman from the great state of tennessee, marsha blackburn is back. she was at this moing's hearing. democratic congressman rob andrews is here. they said they were not going to take the fifth so a lot has changed. >> correct. last week they were going to appear and answer our questions. then we found out they were going to take the fifth. what we would like to know from them is, what they knew, when they knew it, when they found out their business model was broken? did they discuss this in board meetings? why did they come to capitol

hill in july and tell us that things were improving and they were on the right track production was going to double? and then six weeks later, they are filing for bankruptcy. there are so many questions on this, they continue to grow. >> sean: why in february, did they restructure the loan so the taxpayers would be paid back last? i think that is another question. >> well, that's unprecedented. and you have questions, is this allowed? was it legal? but for mr. -- to be front of the taxpayers is inappropriate. when you know that he has visited the white house. when you know that mr. harrison, the ceo has interacted with the white house to get the initial loan. and you uncover this chain of e-mails which we've uncovered. we've been working on this investigation since february. of course, last week we did the first of our interviews

with mr. silverman and and today, the unproductive time, if you will, other than getting our questions on the record, that we did have for the ceo and cfo and the answers we would like to have. >> sean: congressman andrews here's what stinks to high heaven, you've got big donors to the obama campaign. bundlers, people that support the president. that gets them in the door not once, twice, three times, four times the week before they get the money. we have our own government investigators saying we need time to do due diligence. don't rush this deal. the money is given over any way. in the case of lightsquared you had a four star general pressured, but i don't want to mix the two. it stinks to high heaven. is this the type of corruption that the american people that are suffering, that can't take family vacation. they are giving up buying new

cars. they can't send their kids to private school. both parents have to work. do you think the american people deserve answers here? >> we most certainly do. and whether it is a democrat or republican white house or congress, if someone has done something wrong they should be prosecuted or sued or dismissed, if they are an employee. >> sean: how about the fact if you bundle money you get to go to the white house, you get the money. doesn't that whole system stink? >> it does stink. you know it is not unprecedented. this has been an ugly fact of american political life for a very longtime. >> sean: forget about that i'm dealing with this case. >> i think wherever the facts take us in this case they should go. if someone did something wrong they should be held accountable. >> sean: what does this tell the average person? the president made a big deal about being transparent. a big deal about things we are going to change in washington. big donor, big bundler, big

access. the average person doesn't get to visit the white house once, let alone four times up to the week this money is being given. does that seem like the president is playing cronyism that he campaigned against? >> i don't think he is. in prior administrations, i don't know we would have had the same disclosure as to had those meetings for when and what purpose. the reason the president voluntarily has disclosed more about what goes on inside that white house, because he wanted to do that. let's see where the facts lead. if the facts lead to wrongdoing, no matter who it is that person should be held accountable. >> sean: congresswoman, i would contend -- maybe congressman andrews is right maybe this has been standard operating procedure. what has your investigation shown in terms of the unprecedented access by people who supported the president and they got all this taxpayer money and all the warnings

were this -- as a matter of fact they predicted the month and year the company would go bankrupt. >> right. that's an e-mail that i used in the hearing last week. sean, we have the e-mail chain that shows the bush administration, january 9th2009, before president bush left office, they said do not make this loan. this loan cannot hold up. don't make it. president obama is sworn in. then there's the e-mail chain that reactivates this loan and fast tracks this loan. you have career omb analysts and department of energy loan analysts who are saying, it is not ready for primetime. one of the e-mails that i had from august of '09, august 20, 2009 showed the omb analyst saying with the liquidity issues the company will be bankrupt september 2011. that is what happened. for some reason they moved

>> sean: palestinian president mahmoud abbas submitted his request to the u.n.ed if for official recognition of a palestinian state. he received applause, standing ovation from the general assembly as he held up a copy of a letter and said the time has come. netanyahu took to the podium and requested that abbas' petition be rejected. he said the leader's proposal is no substitute for a peace

deal. which he argues must in fact come first. >> all these potential cracks in israel's security, have to be sealed in a peace agreement before a palestinian state is declared. not afterwards. the palestinians should first make peace with israel. and then get their state. i also want to tell you this, after such a peace agreement is signed, israel will not be the last country to welcome a palestinian state as a new member of the united nations. we will be the first. >> sean: president obama has stated publicly, if necessary the u.s. will use its security council veto to block passage of the petition. the real question is, if we had a stronger leader in the white house someone who had taken the time to build substantial relationships with these two leaders and was able to help bridge the gap between them through peace talks, would we be here now?

joining us doug schoen and the author of the new book pam geller. welcome back. bebe was phenomenal, he always is. what bothers me here, as i watch this. the u.n. has historically been anti-semitic and anti-american. we continue to fund it. you saw the reaction to abbas. abbas supports hamas. hamas' charter calls for israel's destruction. it is infuriating that so many countries in the world support this unholy alliance. doesn't that have to be resolved first? >> absolutely. we see the largest bloc of countries in the u.n., 56 plus the palestinian authority driving that bus that's who is giving the standing ovation. what are they applauding? the terror against the jews?

war against the jews. applauding the fact that the palestinian authority refuses to recognize israel's right to exist. the new state would be free of jews and homosexuals? they were offered a state in 1948. they many, many chances they had everything in 2000 many and they rejected it. which shows they want to destroy israel. when gaza and -- were unjordanian and egyptian rule nobody was clamoring for a tate then? >> sean: good point. >> i believe in the two-state solution. i think everyone ought to accept what prime minister netanyahu and all jews across the board say. there have to be guarantees of israel's security, negotiations without preconditions before we move towards any sort of two-state solution. >> sean: why am i cynical about obama?

>> sean: welcome back to hannity. time for our weekly round up of all the ways the mainstream media tries to spin you the news. the president of the media research center brent bozell. how are you sir? >> how are you? >> sean: there's a cable news network that says, no, they are fair. but they have made a conclusion. you gotta tax the rich, you have to do it, i don't care, taxes have to go up. let's watch. >> you look at any serious budget experts analysis of the situation, taxes have to go up. at what point do republicans say okay we agree the taxes have to go up and here's what we will agree to? you are talking about the buffett rule affects 450,000 individuals. what is wrong with raising taxes for that crowd so they are paying the same on their overall income as a middle class family?

what is wrong with raising taxes on just that sliver of the rich? >> sean: does that sound like obama's press secretary? it does to me. >> absolutely. what is wrong with it? greece. greece has a 45% income tax. greece should be in fine shape according to this economic theory because it is -- but it is not because taxes are not the issue. every serious economic person -- what nonsense, what absolute nonsense! this is a press release by the obama campaign. what about cutting the size of government? capping spending? cutting the deficit? those are much more serious proposals. they are off the table not just with obama, but with cnn. >> sean: they claim to not have an agenda.

let's go further. same network. they talk about george herbert walker bush had the courage to break his no new tax pledge. had the courage to raise taxes. >> george h.w. bush had courage. knowing it might cost him reelection, it would cost his conservative base. read my lips, no new taxes. and he called everybody out to camp david and an to a package that caused him to violate that promise. there are some people now saying we need a moment like that. and the republicans should give president obama some some tax increases as long as they get significant spending cuts and a big spending package. should the republicans learn from george h.w. bush and sit down with president obama and cut a deal? >> sean: they don't have an agenda. >> i'm disappointed on john king.

thereafter. she had the gun ready to go with her. do you believe that is a legitimate excuse or within a 20 year time period she has a responsibility to leave? >> no, i don't believe that's legitimate. the feminists may rally around her for taking things in her own hands. i think she should be treated the way anyone else would be that committed murder. >> there's a process, procedures. you have to follow the rules. obviously, after 20 years that's horrible, a terrible situation. you can't pick up a gun and start shooting somebody. >> she sure got even, 11 shots you said? i think we don't know enough about the case. how much abuse? how long did it go on? what is the evidence, the testimony. this will go through a process of litigation and discovery and what was the evidence, how was she abused? it is a jury.
