of the missing baby. that's it for today. >> hello, i'm kelly wright. welcome to america's news headquarters. >> jamie: topping the news this hour, there are possible new leads in the case of the missing baby from missouri. a new person now questioned in the baby's disappearance. we're going to have the very latest on this developing story. >> right now, votes about to be cast in a straw pole at the value voters summit. the major contenders are there. >> jamie: one of the longest running and controversial owners in football have died. the look back at the legacy of al davis. >> kelly: we begin with the frantic search for a missing ten month old baby in missouri. new reports today, authorities are looking into two new leads there. which could be the first real progress since little lisa irwin vanished from her kansas city home on monday night. and her father says he

returned from working an overnight shift. only to find his daughter's crib empty. the federal police searching through a landfill for the second time and no clues turning up at all and hours after the child's mother says investigators dropped a bombshell accusation against her. julie banderas is live in our new york news room with more details. >> first, kelly, i just want it talk about the new details. the new leads that are coming in. apparently, a teenager that lives next door is being talked to by authorities and apparently that teenager, who they are not naming a suspect, not saying anything other than the fact that investigators have spoken with this teenager, apparently does know the combination to get into the garage of their home. and that's all we know at this point. and meantime, baby lisa irwin's parents are saying that she was snatched from her crib, sometime monday night or early tuesday, and that the abductor actually entered through the window of the baby's room, but the mother of the ten month old says that police actually told her that she failed a lie detector

test. and they accuse her of being involved somehow in her baby's disappearance, although they're not exactly saying how. debra bradley says the police never showed her the results of the the test and denies knowing anything about what happened to her daughter. bradley and the baby's father, jeremy irwin say lisa was abducted from their kansas city home. irwin says he also offered to take a test, but the police said that was not necessary. police are not commenting on whether the parents have been part of the ongoing investigation. the parents say, police have been treating them like suspects and bradley in particular has been preparing herself for the possibility of charges being filed against her. and then on thursday night, a new twist. kansas city police announcing at a press conference that irwin and bradley, quote, decided to stop talking to detectives and i don't have to illustrate how that affects the investigation, it that speaks for itself. in a statement in the very same night, the parents insisted they have been cooperative from day one and he they just want to find lisa

and bring her home. in an interview with judge janine pirro, the parents describe their horrific ordeal. >> when you walked in the home what's your first thought. >> i didn't-- >> did anyone come to mind? >> no, i mean, not really, it was just -- panic, panic, you don't, you don't think, when something like that is happening, you don't, you don't think, everywhere-- there's no --. >> nothing in your head, it's not real, it's a dream. it's just a nightmare. >> fbi agents have searched a nearby landfill twice and decline to discuss what led them to search there. still no suspects are in custody in this case and you can watch the entire interview by the way, the exclusive interview tonight, 9 p.m. eastern on a special edition of justice with judge jeanine, kelly. >> kelly: something we'll be be watching. thank you for that update. >> jamie: we look forward to

the interview, judge jeanine had with the parents. here is how the police say it unfolded. on october 3, baby lisa last seen by her mother at 10:30 she was put in her crib, and her father returns from work at four in the the morning to find her missing. the parents hold a press conference and ask for the baby's safe return. on october 6th, police claim lisa's parents are no longer cooperating with authorities and yesterday, they speak out denying they've stopped cooperating and tonight, judge with an interview with the parents and we'll learn more. >> kelly: we'll talk about that just now, as julie mentioned and jamie, also, the parents of baby lisa, sitting down in an exclusive interview with judge jeanine pirro and here is more of that interview that we'll see. >> what's the next thing that you remember? >> him coming in the bedroom, he said, why are the lights on, you know, why is the

screen popped out of of the window and lisa's bedroom door is open and we always, we always close it when she goes to sleep at night. and we ran back and checked and he came in the room and he said, where is lisa, where is she at. and i said she's in her crib, what are you-- and he he said she's not there and we just got up and started screaming for her and looking everywhere and she wasn't there. >> lisa is ten months old. >> she'll be 11 months old. key gathering of social conservatives today. it's hardly the only big headline though, coming out of the value voter summit a bombshell dropped yesterday when a prominent evangelical pastor equated mitt romney's mormon faith to a cult. and not directly addressing those comments, telling the summit, such talk won't help. >> we should remember the desense aand civility are values, too, one of the speakers that follow he me today has crossed that line, i think, poisonous language doesn't advance our cause. >> and doug galloway from the voters summit in washington. hey, i understand those cult comments from yesterday are still reverberating today not just from the former massachusetts governor. tell us what's going on? >> that's right. really continues to be an issue here today. you heard what mitt romney had to say about it as they addressed the convention this morning. in introducing romney, talk show radio host, former

secretary of education during the reagan administration, excoriated them for the remarks, listen up. >> i would say to pastor jeffers, you stepped on and obscured the words of perry, and santorum, and cain and bachmann and everyone else who has spoken here. you did rick perry no good, sir, in what you had to say. >> romney, as you also heard, criticized remarks without jaming the pastor nor his rival perry by name. it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the next couple of weeks and months and the perry campaign issuing a statement reads in part, the governor does not agree with every single issue or everyone he knows that supports his candidacy. he's getting it on track and keep in mind this thing may resonate with yvonne gel cal voters especially in states like iowa and south carolina, one out of every two g.o.p.

voters identifies themselves as an evangelical or a christian conservative, jamie. >> jamie: he no question about the importance of those faiths. let me ask you about ron paul. i was watching his interview carefully. what kind of reception is he getting there today? he seems a little bit more soft spoken than normal? >> he he got a very good reception here, this auditorium was parked for his remarks this morning and shortly after that at a meet and greet, the line to meet him stretched literally hundreds of people long, and i haven't seen anything like that in quite some time and he's go the quite a following here, in his remarks this morning, he addressed and equated his libertarianism to the teaching of the bible in many respects. he cited several biblical passages from samuel, book one, verse 8 and people of israel wanting a king and talking about the danger of that. here is ron paul. >> in samuel, although he knew he wasn't going to be around

long, he advised the people of israel not to accept the king, because the king, he warned, would not be generous. it would undermine their liberties. there would be more wars, there would be more taxes. >> now, paul went on to say that back then and today, the most important governing body is not a king, but the family and he he said that in washington, we too often rely on our king. and that line got a lot of applause, jamie. >> jamie: very interesting perspective. thanks for bringing us up to speed on it. we'll check back with you today. it will be interesting, thanks, doug. >> kelly: interesting to say the least, in fact the impact of faith voters in the 2012 election and plus the fallout from pastor jefferson's remarks at the value voters summit as you just heard are fair and balanced, political panel list joins us now, chris hahn, and an aid to schumer. angela mcglowan joins us

today. good to see you, angela. >> good to see you. >> kelly: i really heard what bill bennett said and i think it hit home. he talked about that no one should give voice to bigotry in this campaign. how do you both respond to what happened here with jeffers making the statement, calling mormonism a cult? >> this is the problem that mitt romney is going to have, kelly. if he is our nominee. and some of those seven voters in the bible belt still actually understand, maybe, mormonism, but at the end of the day, it's not about religion, it's about jobs, it's about the economy. and i think that it's a travesty that we in the republican party can be our own worst enemy. we need to run against barack obama, not run against each other. >> kelly: chris on the opposite side the democrats are looking at this, saying, gee, what gives with the republicans and as angela said they shoot their own. >> i don't think that angela could have been more correct. the republicans are sniping at

the one guy in their field who really could win the election next year. and he, you know, i see it every day. you see how speaker boehner undercut his foreign policy speech yesterday. you see how the values voters down at this convention are sniping at his mormon frank, quite frankly, whether you agree with it or not, the mormons tend to have a very good record on how they raise their families and live their lives and it should be in line with the values voters. they're sniping at mitt romney and you see the other candidate sniping at mitt romney and as candidates drop out they're sniping. >> christopher. >> a break through 20%. >> now what, you're having too much fun here and that's the thing, kelly. >> kelly: and asking about that, and angela, let me ask you, what's it going to take for mitt romney to gain some traction among evangelicals to move forward in terms of getting that nomination. >> number one he needs to stay on the issue and number two, he doesn't need to run away from his spirituality, nor

does he have to really actually explain it. i think if he-- >> good point. >> if he actually works on the issues and not about religion, i think we'll be okay. but the democrats want us, kelly to tear each other down and that's about the only strategy that they have. right now, barack obama cannot run on the economy, and jobs. he can't. >> kelly: well, i think you know. >> usually it's the democrats beating each other up and kind of refreshing to see them around a single candidate. will et me say, in the general election, voters tend to frown on, on candidates who wear their faith on their sleeve. ronald reagan made that very clear when he ran twice, that he did not wear his faith on his sleeve. and you know, and mitt romney doesn't do it as well. he so, i think that, you know, if they could get past that, and unify around him. he is he' going to be a formidable challenger to the president next year. that said this primary is far from over. >> go ahead, angela, get a

word in. >> as for the nomination, kelly, those social conservatives, they're both very important and bush won four more years for getting the black vote in ohio on the right to life and sanctity of marriage. religion is important, but mitt romney mass to put it back. >> chris, she makes a good point there about the values that many people are looking for in their presidential candidates. and he so, what say you as we wrap this up quickly. >> the problem with romney is, he was pro choice before he was pro-life, and when he actually had a chance to govern, that's how he governed, more after liberal and that's the bigger problem in the system here. people don't know where romney stands and that's going to be his problem and he might have a hard time motivating the religious right wing of the republican party snie wish i had more time for both of you, both are making valid points, we didn't get to herman cain for ron paul or rick perry. and we thank you both for

sharing your insights. don't forget that straw poll is taking place today with the value voters. >> thank you. >> thanks for having us. >> new developments in the solyndra scandal. bombshell e-mails have been released and reveals that the white house was warned of a possible conflict of interest, regarding the now bankrupt solar power company. the situation also prompting very inappropriate language from a white house aide. peter doocy in washington to tell us about that profane e-mail, sent. >>. >> reporter: back in august some were pushing to give solyndra nor 5.4 million dollars because they knew they were in financial trouble and knew it was going to come out. so the white house scheduled a conference call where everybody on the call would eventually against giving solyndra. but beforehand somebody from the management and budget asked a white house aide what the problem was and her one-word answer was too

inappropriate for tv. essentially bleep show. and shows an obama donor who went on to work for the department of energy, top post and who's wife worked for a law firm who worked for solyndra. and steve spinner is that man and quote, any word from omb, the white house breathing down my neck on this, getting itchy to get involved if needed, i don't want that, steve. and the e-mail vase that it had intimate knowledge and knew what was going on and the republicans are not pleased and saying that doj, some in the administration thought the department of justice needed to approve the loan because it might be illegal, but the department of energy went ahead with it anyway. >> jamie: awful lot of people involved. every time we learn a new development and how are republicans responding to it

specifically. >> reporter: well, congressman fred upton and cliff sterns from the energy and commercial committee shows the west wing and their, the deep pocket donors of the-- to president obama are disturbingly close and they said, quote, when asked about solyndra this week, president obama proudly proclaimed solyndra went through the regular review process and people felt like this was a good bet. the facts say otherwise, but if solyndra is evidence of obama's regular review process, when we have significant problems and taxpayers could be on the hook for billions. so, jamie, another day has gone by and another group of people have been dragged in the scandal. >> and sounds like more billions. thank you, peter. good so see you. >> kelly: al davis, controversial owner of the oakland raiders has died. he was 82 years old and dave's raiders won three super bowls in the 70's and '80s. he was elected to the pro football hall of fame in 1992

and davis will be remembered by many as a rebellious spirit with little love for authority. and i remember those days. but he helped mold the nfl into the successful sports league it is today. and commissioner roger goodle reacted to dave's death today saying quote, he he defined the raiders and contributed to pro football at every level. the respect he commanded was evident in the way that people listened carefully every time he spoke, he is a true legend of the game, whose impact and legacy will forever be a part of the nfl. >> it's pretty amazing video, folks, a pilot is forced to ditch his plane right in the middle of the pacific ocean, all caught on tape. how it all went down and how it went when they went in to get him. we'll tell you about that. plus, the party may be over in california. uh-huh. federal crackdown now on the state's medical marijuana dispensaries, big business in california setting the stage

caught the pilot of the small plane out of the pacific ocean after he ran out of fuel while flying from california to hawaii. fortunately, for this pilot. he had the foresight to contact the coast guard after he noticed his cessna was low on fuel 400 miles east of the big island. the coast guard was waiting when the plane splashed down. 13 miles shy of the destination. >> he did it picture perfect, a textbook landing if there's such a thing in the water for an airplane like that. he gave in, wings level and brought it in slow as he could. >> we could see him out of the airplane moving and we were overjoyed. like, hey, the airplane was intact when it landed. >> it's not something you want to try again for sure and fortunately, the pilot was hospitalized, but only with minor injuries. the coast guard folks are the best. >> well, the feds are vowing to shut down scores of california's pot operations

and the government cracking down, targeting who they call the worst offenders. those using the cover of medical marijuana to act as store front drug dealers. casey stegall live from the los angeles news room. what prompted this crackdown? >> well, kelly, partly it's because of the obama administration, that administration recently vowed to toughen its stance when it comes to medical marijuana, which is why the department of justice issued a memo to federal prosecutors over the summer, saying that some of these medical marijuana dispensaries and growers could face prosecution for violating federal drug laws. remember, just because pot is considered legal in some states for medicinal purposes, with a doctor's prescription, it is still illegal to sell or possess it under federal law. now, the u.s. attorney's office, issuing dozens of letters to dispensaries, giving them 45 days to close up shop.

targeting those within 1,000 feet of a school, park or playground first. >> i understand there are people in california who believe marijuana stores should be allowed to exist, but i trust that these same people will all agree, we don't need retail marijuana outlets across the street from playgrounds and schools and little league fields. >> reporter: now, the feds say that they do of course have compassion for people who are ill, chronically ill patients that are using this drug for its intended purpose, but they say that the reality is, many people are abusing the medical component of it and getting their hands on it using it for recreational use, kelly. >> kelly: so they're cracking down now. but could other states be following suit and could be next in line? >> absolutely. in fact, 15 other sitates have similar, california the first to pass the marijuana law.

we're hearing that officials in colorado, nevada, washington, oregon, have been warned of similar crackdowns and the feds say they'll go off landlords who are renting to dispensaries and leaning on blacks to close the accounts of dispensary owners. mad cal marijuana activists say it's a violation of patient's rights and one more example of the federal government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong, kelly. >> kelly: that's going to be quite a case to follow. good to see you, have a good day. >> remember when owning a home was the american dream? remember, kelly? it may not be any more. new numbers show that home ownership is seeing its biggest drop since the great depression. why many economists are saying it may be a thing of the past, and maybe we can help you hang on to your home. plus, the internet to go. one car maker putting the web on wheels, but is it a goods idea or just another

>> well, he when some new and vi dire, i have to tell you, new census figures showed that home ownership over the last decade has seen its biggest drop since the great depression, we ask what does it mean for the american dream? how about owning your own home. how about holding onto the one you have? joining us now, oliver porsche, president of gary goldberg financial services and thanks for being with us. >> thanks for having he me. >> is owning your own home no longer the american dream? >> well, i think the american dream has been redefined over the centuries and over the years, so, absolutely, right now the american dream is not defined as owning a home and i think when you reach the 70% level like we did, you know, halfway through the the past decade, it was done artificially and i'm the not

sure it ever should have be described as owning a home and an opportunity. >> you can't own a home if you don't have a job and they go hand in hand. i know you feel that strong home ownership is really, it's important, it's not only desirable, but it's necessary for us to have a strong economy. but what's your report card on where we are? >> sure, so, you know, at gary goldberg financial services money managers, we're concerned about the economy and prospects of the economy as a whole and you want to have home ownership and a lot of ownership in the mid 60%, but in a manner where people have an equity stake, a skin in the game so you don't get the scenario like we did. we remember, 2006, 2007, people were getting million dollar mortgages on ninja loans, no income, no job. you want to have the equity and want to have it be sensible and away from the heavy, heavy leverage that was occurring. today we're in much better shape than three years ago and

we're operating the on the patient and that's painful and the recovery will happen. there are many good things happening in this economy, that are just not being paid attention to today. >> we all want a part of those, please, share, what are the good things happening in this economy and do you we get in. >> we get in, it's slow, it's difficult. if you look at the latest census from the labor statistics bureau, 48% of small businesses owned and operated and started by immigrants. that's the definition of the american dream to me. and you have to work hard, you have to be patient and we've got to get past the idea of you know, the get rich quick schemes. i remember, speaking to friends three, four, five years ago, before the crisis happened in the housing boochlt. they said i'm going to buy this home in las vegas for $600,000 and going to put it right back on for $700,000 and make 100 grand quickly. that was never ever meant to

making dinner reservations behind the wheel. we're not sure whether she should or not. toyota is introducing a new in-car internet. is it too much distraction from the drivers, elizabeth from the the atlanta news room. did you take a drive. >> i have been able to get a look at the new system and automakers are turning cars into rolling wireless the hot spots so occupants inside can check anything from stocks to sports scores and even the weather or by movie tickets. big car makers like toyota, hyundai, gm, ford, all of them

are pushing new technologies and that's because customers are looking for their own wireless network inside their cars. and j.d. power and associate. 86% of smart phone owners use their device while in their vehicle. we spoke with toyota and this is what he had to say about the the new system at toyota. listen here. >> we are aallowing the customer to interact with the in tune content using the typical vehicle controls like voice, touch, and steering wheel controls, so that's one of the key benefits we're trying to keep the customers eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. >> and there in lies the controversy, jamie, does more access to cooler gadgets mean distracted driving? one mother, a mother in georgia would say yes. unfortunately she lost her 18-year-old son caleb when he died in 2009 while texting and driving, even he though car makers insist the systems are

safe because they keep the hands free and voice activated. mandy would say her son was killed instantly in a head-on collision because he was distracted. here is what she had to say. >> people get killed all the time by drivers just talking on their cell phone, even hands free is dangerous and i don't think that people really see the dangers in it. they think they have their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, but when you're having that phone conversation, your mind is not on the road. >> thanks to mandy we have k caleb's act in georgia. and on one hand car makers are satisfying the customers with new technologies, but safety advocates say it's still distracting for the drivers. jame. >> jamie: thank you, elizabeth in atlanta. >> kelly: without a doubt it's a beautiful day here in new york.

and actually see for-- and you actually show them or show us how people can do the call of price in everything that they do. >> and kelly, it's just unbelievable, what's happening in the catholic church. it means so many times you hear the negative side of it and actually there are wonderful developments in the catholic church over the the last 30 or 40 years and one of those wonderful developments is the emergence, is the explosion of lay involvement. and that's what we wrote our book about, living the call. it's all about lay people. like you and me, stepping up and getting involved and boy, oh, boy, aren't there a lot of students. >> a lot of students and i'm going to get the excerpt of quickly, from what you wrote. where you'veent through about a dozen years or so ago, some significant professional material that's under your belt and you say, quote, i began to feel that something was missing that maybe these three things in my life.

my family, my faith, and my career shouldn't be separate and maybe the balance among the three wasn't quite right so i started to pray. and boy, if more people would do that in america, they might not only the catholic church, but the country as well. >> well, kelly, it was a gradual process, i'll tell you that. it wasn't like on the road to damascus, it was a gradual thing and i'm a greatful guy and a lucky fellow and have a wonderful wife, four wonderful children and i had a good business career and working hard with my brother pete and we have a wonderful firm, but i think your faith is terribly important and it's great to weave your faith into the daily life, not just on sunday. >> there's nothing wrong with that. >> and nothing wrong with that at all. in fact, it almost becomes something that even could help you on the job? >> well, it's been a big help to me i tell you and my wife tells me i'm a lot easier to deal with at home, too.

not? >> this is very confusing and if you brought ten doctors in here i think you'd get ten different opinions about this, but what we're learning and tough to put our heads around is that screening is not always helpful. we're talking about healthy men here, not men with a history of prostate cancer in their family or african-americans who has a higher rate of cancer, you get a lot of false positives, number one and also, finding cancer early is that always the outcome. >> what's interesting to me, doctor, in the research that i read, men who invented the test, test for prostate cancer even he feels not everybody should have the test. but what's the harm in having a test, you either get good news or you find out you have something you have to watch or you find out you have prostate cancer. >> first of all, there's a lot of anxiety around this test agoen understanding the risk and benefits of taking the test. there are false positives, other reasons why it might be high nothing to do with cancer

in the prostate. >> jamie: so repeating the test wouldn't be a way to rule out that you got a false positive? >> knyou need to repeat the test. it's not just the value on one test, but over time. it's anxiety provoking and hard for the patients, even after a biopsy, if they had a small benign, low level cancer to watch it and monitor it. grappling with that procedure is hard, and may be with cancer that may never harm them. >> should they or shouldn't they? is the advice ask your doctor. >> that's right, have a conversation with your doctor. the bottom line, this should not be a knee jerk blood test that everybody receives. talk with your doctor, understand the risks and benefits of a having a test done. >> kelly: if you're african-american like myself, be proactive and do it, what's the harm in doing that. >> that's right, higher risk
