crash landed. and got what? a billboard playing off a popular ad campaign for milk causing controversy and a push to take it down. right now, the search for survivors intensifying after a powerful earthquake rocks the nation of turkey. we're learning the streets are filling up with thousands of people running for cover from collapsing buildings. what you're watching right now, a few hours ago, a much-needed sign of hope as rescuers were pulling one person from all that debris. the quake, a 7.2 magnitude hitting earlier. while the numbers keep rising on this, the turkish prime minister announcing many are dead. the epicenter in the northern part of the country, however the hardest hit we just saw is farther east. near the iranian border,

aftershocks a short time ago and that's been happening for a couple of hours, and president obama says the u.s. is ready to give help and turkey is sitting in one of the earthquake prone areas. now to libya, it is liberation day three days after the longest ruling dictator in modern daytimes, muammar qaddafi and now the leader of libya's interim government making a keynote speech in benghazi, had a rebel uprising eight months ago and turned into civil war. he told libyans to show their joy not by firing guns into the air, but by chanting god is great and patience and tolerance, building a government based on islamic sharia law. president obama commenting ott the new era, we look forward to working with tnc and

know if they fight off the qaddafi force here and in tripoli and hometown of sirte. they're saying they want to future say in the government and the folks here are one among many factions vying for power in the next few months, harris. >> harris: everybody keeps pointing to-- are all of those pictures of muammar qaddafi in death and a lot of controversy that i'm reading about, greg, in terms of an investigation now going into how he died. what's the latest on that? >> yeah, harris, the body of muammar qaddafi remains unbelievably on public display here in misurata. overnight authorities conducted another post-mortem and authorities are pretty satisfied with their own version of events that he died in cross fire, that it was a battle zone and we wanted a closer look at the scene of death and traveled to sirte,

150 miles from where we are today. here is a little of what he we saw. >> this is where it ended for qaddafi, a drainage pipe outside the town of sirte where he ned to when his convoy was hit and the rebel fighters spotted him, pulled him out of the pipe, dragged him 50 yards and according to a fighter, he asked desperately, what have i done to you, my sons. to which, the fighter told us, he replied, more than 40 years of killing. and then reportedly, qaddafi was killed. you know, another person, harris, came up to us while we were at the scene at the drainage pipe and pointed to the pipe and said, you know, qaddafi, he was just luke a mouse and crawled into a hole and caught just like a mouse. folks here are hoping for a much better future. back to you. >> harris: great reporting, greg palkot taking us up close. and turning to the war in

iraq, new fallout regarding president obama's decision to withdraw troops through christmas and some on capitol hill pressing forward with concerns about security and safety and iraq's ability to keep the peace once our troops go home. the administration is standing firm and secretary of state hillary clinton says the president is keeping his promise to get the troops out, but strong emotions over this planned withdrawal. critics say a complete u.s. pullout will create stability in the middle east and leaving the door open for iran, leaving iraq, open. and how the president will explain the decision. >> they say the president promised to pull troops out by year's end and he's keeping his promise. there were negotiations with iraqi officials to keep a certain number of combat troops in the country past the deadline, but no agreement was reached. now, only a handful of u.s. military trainers will remain and the secretary of state

today, playing it as a foreign policy achievement. >> the president has fulfilled the commitment he made to the american people, we've also, under the president's leadership, fulfilled the commitment requested by the iraqis. >> says that the u.s. and iraq will have an ongoing relationship for years to come without the american combat troops. >> harris: as we learn more what the pullout will look like, the criticism is growing widerment how are republicans reacting? what's their major concern? >> their major concern is iran and the danger it might pose, that the absence of u.s. combat troops allowing iranian influence to gain hold and expand and they don't think the president is doing the right thing. >> it's a serious mistake. i believe we could have negotiated an agreement and i'm very, very concerned about increased iranian influence in iraq. >> at a time we need troops in

iraq and against iran and bad actors in the region we're going into 2012 with none. >> reporter: secretary clinton saying that iran would be badly miscalculating if they can't consider the continued american presence in the region, including bases in turkey. >> harris: steve centanni, thank you very much. as the mission in iraq is set to wind down. some controversial comments from the president of afghanistan, where our troops are risking their lives to keep the country safe. hamid karzai saying in an interview, afghanistan would support pakistan if it ever went to war with the u.s. as you might imagine, his comments hitting a raw nerve for those who might have supported his government. >> if pakistan is attacked, and if the people of pakistan need afghanistan's help. afghanistan will be there with you, afghanistan is a brother and with the united states and pakistan, this has not had an impact in our attitude towards

his own life. james poe was riding his motorcycle home from work when he stopped to check on a car just sitting along the side of the road and they say poe didn't even get to put his kick stand down on his motorcycle when 26-year-old christopher hodges shot him several times, and then turned the gun on himself. hodges was with the tennessee national guard doing some training in georgia. the sheriff saying hodges appeared to be drunk and had been firing shots at passersby. no one else was hurt. new developments tonight in the case of the missing baby girl in missouri and it could back up the family's claims about her abduction. surveillance cameras rolling when a man wearing white walked out of the the woods near little lisa irwin's home the night she vanished. while he we do know know who this person is, we do know witnesses had told police about a suspicious man they say carry ago baby in the area on that same night. meanwhile, a new push to find the 11 month old little girl. drivers will now see lisa's face on billboards along

kansas city highways, and advertising company donating the sign hoping somebody might recognize the child and call police. and in arizona, no sign of missing five-year-old jahessye shockley. last seen two weeks ago outside her home in phoenix, she jshd after her mother went on an errand, leaving the child with three older siblings. our david lee miller is on the story, we learned a lot. what's the latest. >> we're learning increasingly more. last night a candlelight vigil outside the home. and jahessye's mother lashed out a the media blaming reporters for disclosing where they are. and now her ex-husband is going to know where they live and he's a sex offender behind bars and jahessye's grandmother accused the media and not doing more saying they

were lax because jahessye a black. and police meanwhile, reject any of the accusations and say race did not play any role in this investigation. list nl. >> nothing can be further from the truth. this is a beautiful little five-year-old girl and our-- the police department and the community's effort has been unwavering from the the very beginning. it doesn't matter what the color of her skin is, her nationality, it would never make a difference. >> reporter: and jahessye's grandfather last night, harris, took the opportunity to say he appreciates the support he is receiving from not only the media, but the police as well. contradicting what his wife said days ago. >> harris: when you look at this on balance, david, there are a lot of things that people have found out about this family, almost like they're retreating from the media. on one hand they're blaming the media for not enough attention, but you have more information on what you found about the family. >> some cases it could be careful what you wish for. the grandmother says we want a lot of attention and now they're under the microscope

and may not be happy with things disclosed. this, as the investigation continues. we've learned, number one as i mentioned a moment ago, that her ex-husband is a convicted sex offender now behind bars. the mother was convicted of abusing her own children back in 2005 and today there's a report that three of her other children have been taken by child perspective services, we do not know, and the investigators in in case made it abundantly clear to make sure they're not going to let the criminal association of this family in any way overshadow the investigation. they're looking at anything and everything, and quickly one of the things they're looking at, i was told today that there was a witness who observed a car, a dark colored chevy the day of the abduction, someone entering that car resembling jahessye, possibly a hopeful lead, but at this point too early to tell. they're looking at it. >> harris: that would be the first solid one potentially we've heard about. david lee with that breaking details tonight.

retailers, bulking up its staff to handle the rush and macy's department store, for example, will hire the most, looking to add about 78,000 temporary workers to the payroll, which is 4% more than last year. toys "r" us, the world's largest toy company will hire roughly 40,000 as will kohl's, again, a nearly 5% increase. >> the amount of hours that a seasonal associate with expect. a few hours 020 hours and the typical job probably unloading of a truck, stocking on the sales floor and cash register duties. >> reporter: while the world of retail is not growing as fast as some other sectors, experts say it's a slow, but sure process and sales have been on the rise for 15 months in a row now, according to the national retail federation, and the industry has added about 100,000 permanent jobs just in the last year. >> it's also important to keep in mind that just because you
