term president but mitch mcconnell said that one time and it's been used almost for ads for democrats to say he's not keeping his eye on ball. you can make a strong argument in reality away from entertainment that the whole jobs bill shows it was about party, not country. >> one of the things about the jobs bill is joe biden famously went out there and used some scare tactics. unless you pass this thing, rape is going to increase and murders are going to continue across the country. have you wondered why joe biden has in the words of michael goodwin today in "the new york post" been a jerk lately and hillary clinton has been a good soldier? he suggests that they are out to switch jobs. they're auditioning to switch jobs. joe biden would take secretary of state and hillary clinton would become the vice president, might help obama come 2012. >> might help obama but it's never going to happen. i mean, it might help obama, many people were stunned when he chose her as secretary of state. they'd be even more stunned. i don't think he likes her that much, quite frankly. she's doing a great job by many people's assessment and many

deductions -- >> less money. >> less money coming in for the government. it seemed as if governor perry didn't know exactly what the answer was. see if you can figure it out. >> how much would the feds lose in revenue under your plan, governor? >> well, i don't really worry about what the feds are going to lose. what i'm worried about is getting people back to work in this country because the fact of the matter is the spending problem is what we've got in this country. i'm looking at a tax process that will allow people to keep more of their money because we know what happens when job creators get to keep more of their money than they have the confidence to go out and expend that money to create jobs that in turn create wealth. and that's what we got to do in this country. we have to build the confidence back in this country. >> that's an answer he really should have had and charles krauthammer was on the o'reilly program right after and he said he's kind of surprised he did not know. >> how could he?

the bottom line is that he was on a bipath to winning the state. he have beat john mccain easily in 2008 and that was in part because he had the democratic convention right here in this city of denver. but unemployment, foreclosures here, just like in many other big cities around the country, it's all weighing down his poll numbers here. i mentioned he went to the denver museum, talked to republicans not happy and a democratic voter saaveda look, congress is blocking parts of his agenda and it's time for him to take action on his own. take a listen. >> the people are losing their homes and jobs and people are hurt, very hurtful. so whoever can get it done needs to get it done. he's the president, more power to him. if it's here in the rips working to together, more power to them. >> when you talk to the president's advisors in private, they basically say if he wins colorado again, and he wins nevada again where he was a couple of days ago, they think he's got a better than 50/50 chance of winning reelection 'cause winning the western

5:19 am
they can stay with the current plan that they have, which 47% don't pay federal income tax. >> let me finish my point. perry is not concerned about advancing sound tax policy. he is only concerned about increasing his dwindling poll numbers. poll after poll has shown us that the american public wants millionaires to pay their fair share of taxes. not less, and these plans would just put more money into millionaires' pocket. >> we have the most progressive tax system in the western world, more than europe. it depends what you mean by fair share. if you mean all of their money, that's fine. but this talking point stuff about fair share and all that stuff is better for chance and occupy wall street. >> gretchen: great that you can stick around because we got more to discuss with our panel and he's talking about wall street, the president is. but he will still take the donations. he promised no lobbyist, but now he has hired one. so can the president have it both ways? is this just politics or will

looked like hillary clinton it had sewn up four years ago. >> one of the fatal mistakes, ohm one that all pundits make is projecting today into tomorrow, next week, next month, next season. and we always do this, steve. 2008 figures are interesting. you're absolutely right. hillary clinton was ahead more than two to one over barak obama. you couldn't find a pundit who believed that she wouldn't win the nomination in 2008 and we all know what happened. look, this happens regularly. think of pat buchanan coming out of nowhere against george h.w. bush in 1992. think of steve forbes upsetting the coronation plans of bob dole in 1996. john mccain winning the hatch hamp primary against george w. bush in 2000. john considery coming back from object live onto win in 2004. all of these things happened late. these electates particularly in iowa and new hampshire, they do

as they please. they don't listen to you and me, steve. it's outrageous. they do not listen to you and me. >> steve: let's keep it that way. they can watch us, but shouldn't listen to us. so larry, does that mean that anybody in the republican ranks can come out to win ultimately, or is it pretty much down to a couple of guys or gals? >> look, you never rule out anybody who is on the ballot, who has paid the fees and who is in those debates. those debates have been critical. yes, we don't have as many coming up as we've had, but we've got a few in november, december, and especially january. they could change the calculus again. so it's easy to look at the polls and say, well, the ones who seem to have the money and the polling are romney and cain and perry. but who can say? gingrich has been moving up. others have shown life. so we have to wait and see. we have to be patient and patience is not a virtue to most of us in the political

community. >> steve: that's right. what about rick perry? yesterday he unveiled his flat tax. herman cain, most would argue, is at the top of the heap because he's got a very simple tax plan. 9-9-9. have you heard about that, larry? >> somebody mentioned it to me and i ordered a pizza the other day from godfather's, and it was 9.99. it really was. >> steve: fantastic. all right. so do you think perry is going to move up? >> look, he needed to do that to have a chance to move up. where did his votes go? he was the front runner. they mainly went to cain. why did they go to cain? people like cain, but they like the 9-9-9 tax plan. so perry has countered with his own creative tax plan. it's bound to help him somewhat. >> steve: thanks for appearing. now i'm hungry. >> get paula deen back. >> steve: love her. we love you, too. thank you for joining us. >> thanks a lot. >> steve: straight ahead, when we come back, they weathered the storm to find true love.
