five." same time. same place. captioned by closed captioning services, inc welcome to "red eye." i'm greg gutfeld, live at 3:00 a.m. at headquarters, so obviously i am no that guy in the park asking for back rubs. andy, what is coming up on tonight's show? >> cool out, america. our top story tonight, occupy oakland calls for a city wide general strike. we will have the opposite of full team coverage straight ahead. and a new poll shows gun ownership among americans is at -- is at its highest rate in 20 years. something to think about, zombies. and something to think about when bill schulz visits the morbid museum. >> thank you, andy. >> happy plush animal lovers day, greg. >> what kind of sick things are you into, andy?
12:01 am
>> i am not into sick things. animal lovers day is a day for people to enjoy and appreciate their stuffed animals. >> what did you think it was? >> oh. >> i was wrong, move on. >> come on. >> let it go. >> you thought it was some kind of furry thing, didn't you? >> he is quite the hair ball, andy. >> we were just friends, greg. >> whatever. >> jealous much? >> why would i be jealous? >> just because i was a shaloopee way before you were. >> that was a longtime ago. >> some things you never forget. let's welcome our guests. she is so hot her bear feet burn sidewalks in the summer. and he is smart and charming, but john gibson couldn't make it so we are stuck with joe derosa. his new comedy cd came outlast month with the worst title ever. i guess hitler loves me.
12:02 am
and wherever he goes, property values drop. it is my repulsive sidekick, bill schulz. and he has more name for snow than eskimos do. sitting next to me, bob beckle, fox news contributor and co-host of "the five" on the fox newschannel. and even the women of "the view" have a higher iq. good to see you, pinch. >> the late author must suffer from the indignity. it is all part of the time's new hazing process. he will suffer various humiliations including, but not limited to egg yolking, office streaking and a particularly nasty ax known as chocolate tub thumping. greg? >> i am trying to imagine what chocolate tub thumping is. does is involve david carr? >> here is something i recommend not doing, the google thing.
12:03 am
not good. >> well, she is sorry, so very sorry. the mayor of oakland has apologized, hat in hand. she issued a statement one day after police teargased protesters. gene quan blubbered, quote, we are a progressive city and tolerant of many opinions. most are part of the 99% and understand the spirit of the occupy wall street movement. we are committed to honoring their free speech rights. well, in other oak town news, the occupy yes, sirs voted to call -- occupy yes, sirs -- occupiers said, quote, instead of workers going to work and students going to school, the people will converge on downtown oakland to shut down the city. all banks and corporations should close down for the day, but we will march on them. that's right, the people complaining they can't get jobs are going on strike. and speaking of strikes, the kitchen staff at occupy wall street seemed ready to call
12:04 am
one of their own. they were mad they were working 18-hour days because they were feeding homeless people who were there to get free food. yes, the ones you want to pay are pissed people want something from them. welcome to your socialist paradise. how was the media covering the protest? let's take a look courtesey of the fine folks at jest .com. >> they are gaining steam and what is the headline? >> how about occupy wall street protest, gain steam. >> i like it. so who wants to agree with them and then taking credit for it? >> to rest protest. >> less rewords. >> that's great, print it. i'm going home. it is almost noon. >> obama ruins economy and inspires shanty town. >> yes. >> where do the "new york times" go?
12:05 am
>> we can do another redesign. >> see, nobody reads us. >> ladies and gentlemen, this week's occupy wall street cover. >> genius. >> and finally here is a homeless man who is part of occupy san francisco explaining the facts of life to his brethren. >> we are occupying through the night. this is legal. >> yes, it is legal. >> there is a need for privacy. people have been [bleep] on the ground and publicly urinating, but we have a condition and we call it going to the bathroom. >> vit same condition and sometimes i can't control. it you said in the green room you have had it with the protesters, and it is time for the national guard to step in. i was surprised you said that.
12:06 am
i -- >> i didn't say that. the mayor had her hat in her hand. and i know you are going to do this later, but i couldn't understand a word that guy said because i am not drunk anymore. i think as usual the police are overreacting. they have 3,000 cops down on wall street here. they have 30,000 on their force and they put their best cops down there. the crime goes up. there are a bunch of weak homeless people and serious protesters, and what will happen? crime will go up. >> there is crime going there, though, lots of crime. >> you are a crime. >> again he crushed me like a little bug. twice in one day. lor rawrks well come to the show -- laura, welcome to the show. >> thank you. >> sorry you have to sit by bill. how do unemployed people go on strike? do they get jobs for the day and then not show up? >> i don't understand. when i was unemployed i would not leave my job to go strike.
12:07 am
i don't get it. and the students are leaving school, but they want their loans for given. hmm. >> i can dig it. >> joe, how pathetic is the statement from the oakland mayor. -- mayor? >> what really irritated me more than the statement from her is the fact that they want to march on the corporations and banksthat refuse to go on strike. you know what i mean? this is a cause that you continually try to support or get behind in someway. but i think a lot of us are feeling like hans solo. i am not in this for your rebellion, kid. i am in it for the money. i don't understand how you are supposed to get behind people who are going against the powers that be, and now they are starting to act like the powers that be. who are you to drag me into this? i don't want to be a part of it. >> that's a great point. i was surprised it came from you. i'm sorry. bill, have you been going down
12:08 am
to the park to take advantage of the free food. do you feel bad at all for the kitchen staff? >> no, i don't. i am not only protesting against the powers that be, but against the powers that don't be. we tend to forget about that. look at the new yorker. i subscribed to the new yorker for five years. granted i only read the cartoons, many of which i don't understand. but i still have a subscription, greg. it makes me look smart. >> say you were an employee -- no, actually you were an employer at a company, and an employee says he is going on strike in support of occupy. as an employer, wouldn't you be pissed off and say "you're fired." >> no because i wouldn't be an employer. first of all, i object to the name of the last gig. what is it called again? >> my cd? >> it is -- yes. >> it is called return of the sun of the depression auction. the first was called the
12:09 am
depression auction. i am a zapa fan and -- >> fred zapa used to call me when he would run for president. i thought he would make a great candidate. particularly if he was running for the republican presidential nomination with these bunch of losers. listen, what is wrong with boeing general strike? you have been with them for the last month and a half. it is for all of these big bankers and corporations and they ripped us off. they put us into a depression and you sit here and apologize. >> we can get into this. it was not just the banks. it is the government that encouraged the banks. and i am not talking about the protesters. i am talking about the crime that is going on here. when you have mayors it only encourages more crime. until a mayor says you have to stop this there will be more rape and assaults. >> if you want to go on strike, please do. >> i think this is a strategy by the really smart protestors
12:10 am
who want jobs. they will say nationwide strike, people go on strike, and then they will apply for the jobs and get the jobs of the people on strike. >> they are not so stupid, are they? >> makes sense. >> off topic, if you ever campaign for zapa, i have something for you. vote for zapa, everybody else is full of crapa. you can use that. >> i used to get paid a lot of money. >> you know the thing, laura, the mayor of oakland pre sides over the most liberal, most aggressive city scprkts people who live in oakland are railing against what is a socialist paradise. doesn't that prove the point that what they want doesn't work? >> absolutely. and i think she is a little confused. in one sentence she is saying these are peaceful protests. and then she is saying people are getting injured, and then it seems like she is trying to place some of the blame on the police. >> the reason they are getting injured is the cops went there and took them out of their
12:11 am
rightful place to protest and took them away, and then they wanted to go back and get their place to protest and the cops beat the hell out of them. classic. and then they blamed the protesters. >> do you think not one person that got maced by a cop was obstructing justice in any sort of way? >> one or two may have been obstructing traffic or something. but do you think those people were busted on the brooklyn bridge 700 were breaking the law? >> they were just being annoying and breaking the law. >> if that's the case you should be in jail for life. >> coming from you. >> have i been in jail -- i have been in jail. >> cops are public servants like anybody else. if you were a public servant at mcdonalds for instance and you had 700 of the most annoying, stupid, loud, obnoxious people in your restaurant you would throw french fries at a few people. you would snap sometimes. i am not saying it should happen, but it happens. >> and we are not talking about a bunch of peaceful people. there are some that are peaceful.
12:12 am
there are some that are really bad. it is attracting a lot of homeless and a lot of excons down there doing bad things for those people. they have to be protected from those people. >> there's a lot of peace peaceful protesters. >> there is very few -- there are a few -- >> see, you haven't been on the show. when ever this comes up he tries to compare it to the tea parties. >> more is always allowed if the host is doing it. how many times i did hear, if bush was in the white house. that's okay. >> there would be another war. then a lot of people could go to work. >> we were in another war. >> obama ended it. >> no, he didn't. >> from occupying to crying, talking about obama. was he looking for pity in the sourdough city. on tuesday president obama spoke at a campaign event in the w hotel in san francisco named after an actual letter.
12:13 am
after listing what he views as his many accomplishments he took a slightly different tone as he talked about how things have changed since 2008. and i'm told that through some kind of magical technology i don't really understand. we can actually watch and hear what he says. check it out. >> i know i am now a little grayer. i know it is not as trendy to be an obama supporter as it was in 2008. i was the new thing, sort of the new, new thing. we have had setbacks and i have made mistakes on occasions, and michelle reminds me of those frequently. the hope posters kind of faded. >> somebody needs a hug. maybe hes -- maybe it is him.
12:14 am
the president's sentiments echoed the other interview where he head sed he was the underdog and the country is not better off than it was four years ago. for more on this story let's go to dancing baby goat. >> once again dancing baby goat nails it. probably the most cogent analysis of the presidency i have seen in my lifetime. and granted have i been living a longtime. let me go to you. is this talk normal for a president? >> no, he is not confident about what he has done. he had nothing good to say about himself. if he is saying that he was voted in because he is so trendy, well, trends change. >> well, this is an interesting point and i am going to go to joe. i know bob will disagree with me. joe will disagree with me as well. but he kind of made a stunning admission that people voted
12:15 am
for him because he was cool. i thought that was interesting. i have been saying that for years. >> well, look -- >> since the 60s. >> i think there was a little bit of that in there. i personally think that whole statement was actually just brilliant strategy. you want to root for an under dog. when you watch rocky you don't cheer for apolo. you cheer for rocky. >> that's because you are racist. >> laugh hard enough and maybe it won't be true. >> make it go away. >> so we kind of agreed. >> bob, in the green room you said how sorry you felt for president obama which surprised me once again. >> you know, you have said in the green room twice now and i wasn't in the green roo. i was late getting here. first of all if i would have had a gun i would shoot that goat. that's not funny. the goat is not fun fee -- funny. just wait until you see what he does to the furniture.
12:16 am
i had a monkey and he ripped up my entire apartment. >> how did you buy a monkey from a guy who was stoned? >> i apologize for that. >> it was a terrible monkey. >> are you exactly right. that's good strategy for politics. that's exactly right. he was cool in 2008. in fact, i think what he is doing here is setting it up perfectly. you are the ones who keep saying the guy never admits mistakes. he said "i made several mistakes." and now he is playing the underdog. it is exactly the same place to go. when he gets up against mitt romney or wild bill perry or pepperoni pizza man, he is not going to look like such an underdog, is he? >> i was just contemplating this. >> there is a pizza running for president? >> i might have changed my mind on mr. obama. >> he is kind of doing the -- he is kind of doing the
12:17 am
metallica strategy which i appreciate. he is coming out and going i know we said the records in the 90s were great, but they sucked. we are getting back on track. our new thing will be really good. >> what is wrong with metallica? >> reload. did you have that one? >> i have never got a metallica in my life. >> you never got a metallica? it is not a procedure. >> sorry, i ended with a sentence. >> it would be amazing music to listen to while you hung out with your monkey. >> we were both stoned and while the monkey was ripping apart my apartment. >> i like how you gave it up saying, i will just play it and chill out. let him ransack the place. >> but he is saying -- he should be legitimately worried because there were a lot of people that voted for him because he was the first african-american president. he was the first -- he was a younger president. a lot of those folks probably aren't going to vote again because it is not as exciting.
12:18 am
i never saw "rocky 2". i saw "rocky 1" because i am open minded and not a racist like joe. and i cheered for apolo creed. but "rocky 2" it was like, i saw" rocky 1". "rocky 3" no chance. >> i will do something that you hate me nor. >> you don't believe in your country if you never saw "rocky four." he defeated the russian. >> well, at the end you find out apolo is rocky's father. spoiler alert. it was unbelievable. >> you see my point? >> no, not at all. >> does anybody get the point? >> my point is, the first time is the best. the second time, you did it. >> the second time you won. rocky lost in the first one. >> there you go. >> sorry to bring up something like that. >> so in order to make massive
12:19 am
pollution cuts required under the federal government's chess creek bay pollution diet, more money needs to be raised for modernizing the sewage plants and fixing the storm water problems. like we are doing that story. but first, are guns funds? when we return, analysis on the right to bear arms. and by analysis i mean mindless yamering.
12:20 am
12:21 am
12:22 am
are americans okay with ak's? in a word, way. well, it is further proof of how fond we are of firearms. a new poll found that self-reported gun ownership is higher than it has been since 1993. with 47% of adults admitting to packing on their property,
12:23 am
up from 41% a year ago. the good folks at gal lop say one in three americans personally owns a piece. and in the same survey 26% of americans perform a legal ban of a possession of handguns other than police. also for the first time more americans oppose a ban on semiautomatic guns or assault rifles and support it. in kanga recountry, conflicts are -- kangaroo country, conflicts are settled. >> calista flockhart is looking much, much older. >> that's the name of my emu, cal si ta flockhart. you make me sick to my stomach.
12:24 am
why do you think more americans are packing heat? >> i think there is a lot of -- people are scared. i think it is a fear that guns could be banned. i think people are stocking up. >> that's an interesting point. when people come after guns, doesn't it just help the gun industry? >> listen, we will get serious here. check and see how many people want tanks and bo zoo caws. >> you always say tanks and bazookas. >> yes, you do. i am around you every day. >> i know which is a painful experience. look, 26%, i am not surprised. but next year there will be another 1500, 2,000 children killed because of handguns in somebody's home, and i want the people who support guns -- carrying these guns around to go to the funerals. it is despicable. >> that's ridiculous to say that to gun owners. we are talking about lawful gun owners doing whatever they can to keep their guns safe. unfortunately when the accidents happen, it is unfortunate.
12:25 am
>> 1500 kids died from guns in their own house that were not locked up. >> i am going to have andy check that stat. >> you have andy check that stat. >> still, because of that stat , what are you trying to say, that people shouldn't have guns? >> no, i have a gun. i have a shotgun. i have a shotgun i use to hunt with, but now i am going to turn it on you. i don't have a problem with people having guns to hunt. but handguns, they conceal them, they are involved in most crimes and who needs them? why do they need them? >> it is a nonissue. name me one instance where obama is coming after your guns. obama says -- this is the thing. the nra gets membership by making you scared and making you think that they are coming after your gun. no one is coming after your gun. >> i don't think that is why people are buying guns. i don't think that's the case. do you have anymore to say? >> he has to drink water and that's why he stops talking. >> i have made a great point. find me those obama quotes.
12:26 am
>> i think the spiking gun ownership and the people easing up on gun control laws or their opinion is a directory flection of what is happening to society. the economy starts to crumble and people are protesting and everybody starts going -- you know, it might go down at any minute now. let's make sure we are protected for this. >> it is my apocalypse soon here re. -- theory. you have people on the streets demanding your money and your property. you have riots in greece and looting in eke land. -- in england. the rise in gun ownership is the first step toward the mad max road warrior lifestyle i have been looking forward to. >> and i have been stealing fuel. >> and i made an entire suit of armor out of garbage cans. and i carved a hole in my apartment where i dropped down and landed on my motorcycle. >> i bought a giant mouse out there with the hole in the back. >> it was a very strong garbage can if you put that on. you know, the other thing they say is these handguns save so
12:27 am
many people's lives this year. people are breaking in the house. i want to see an example. >> okay. that never happens. let me put it in the simplest common sense so you understand. >> we don't care. >> i know you don't care about common sense. ask a criminal what house would he rather go in, one that is armed or one unarmed and that's your answer. >> no, he wants to go in the one with the most money. >> the one without the gun. >> i have read a study -- >> i have known you for three or four months and you become more right every day. how much farther can you go? >> respectfully, the argument is not whether guns protect us or not, but why has the gun ownership gone up? why has it increased? >> people are afraid. the other reason is you carry them now without being concealed. >> guns are awesome, that's why. >> they are awesome. >> we are going to get a lot of angry letters. do you have guns? >> i do not. but i had to talk a robber out of robbing me, recently
12:28 am
robbing me. i told him i had a gun. how fast do you think he left my house? >> case closed. >> do you have a comment on the show, e-mail us at red eye at fox news .com or leave a voicemail on my direct line. >> call me anytime. still to come, the half time report from tv's andy levy. >> tonight's half time report is sponsored by tennis, the game played with rackets and a small ball by two players on a rectangular court. thanks, tennis.
12:29 am
12:30 am
12:31 am
12:32 am
welcome back. let's find out if we have gotten anything wrong so far. for that we go to andy levy. hi, andy. >> hi, greg, how are you? >> great, thanks for asking. >> bob, how are you? >> fine, good. >> excellent. >> you said the police in oakland were overreacting. oakland mayor quan seems to agree with you. she is now distancing herself from what the police did. she said she was away in washington when it all went down. >> does that mean she learned something? i think that the police tend to overreact in things like that. these are protesters who are against the establishment, and
12:33 am
the police are there to protect the establishment like our host. why would they protect him? >> they don't want to lose their jobs. >> here is the thing. bob, i don't think it is fair to just say oh, the police are pigs. >> i am not suggesting they are pigs. i used to call them pigs. i was a lot younger. >> you know, the story about how all of these crimes, and they had their best cops down on wall street and everybody who hate the wall street people say they are a bunch of punks and drunks and homeless people. why do you need it to protect yourself then? >> i think you need them to protect them from themselves, bob. >> i see. >> that clear itself up for me right there. >> thank you. >> joe, you said a lot of people are trying to get behind the protests, but they are starting to become annoying and you feel like hans solo. i am not in this for your rebellion. i am in it for the money. other than showing off your
12:34 am
geek cred, what does that mean? >> i took my reference too far. i should have stopped it after "i am not in this for your rebellion." >> well, the fun part was watching greg's face go to more confused. >> i was surprised that you did not bring up star trek after that though. >> well, there is still time left in the show, andy. >> i thought greg likes to say it when he says star wars. >> it is both the same thing. >> stop it. >> they both take place in outerspace. >> we will stop down the show and start over. we can't have that. >> by the way, that star trek star wars line got the most emotion out of than i have ever seen in my life. >> he called me a racist. >> he is talking about captain
12:35 am
kirk. this table is going down. >> bob, you mentioned that frank zapa would have made a great presidential candidate. he was pretty libertarian, wasn't he? >> yes, but he had a good liberal streak to him. libertarians get caught by the police and then fall over to where greg s. but zapa used to call us to the basement. he would want to run for president and we talked about it, and he wants to help people who need help. that's what governments there are for. >> who is his number one enemy? al gore. >> that is everybody's number one enemy, so what is the difference there? it was down to this. it is either somebody who cares about needing help and you are a liberal or you are fwreg. -- greg. >> well that's not fair. >> no, it is fair. >> it is not fair. conservatives and libertarians care about people meeting up, but they don't think the government is the means to do it. >> who should do it?
12:36 am
>> churches, charities, people doing it. >> yes, private people doing it. i'm sure. the wall street people have all of the money and they have done it to us. why should we expect that they should help out people who need help, andy. >> i will correct you on what you said. a lot of libertarians were liberals. i know i was. and then what happens is you come to recognize that economic freedom is a necessary condition to have personal freedom. >> could you shut up, please. >> i could, but i won't because it is my show. >> that's right, i'm sorry. i am very sorry. i apologize. >> joe, you said cops are public servants and you told a story about how if you were a public servant working in mcdonalds you wouldn't be a public servant if you worked in mcdonalds. >> how is that not public service? >> it is a private business. >> but it is customer service to the public. >> a public servant is somebody who works for a government organization. >> andy, we can go back and forth. >> we can.
12:37 am
and at the end it will be like at the beginning, and you will be wrong. we can do this the hard way or the easy way. >> would you define what you do as public service or customer service? >> i would define what i do as a load of crap. >> then we agree. >> oh, come on. >> bill, how do you compare the occupy yes, sirs to the tea partiers when it comes to the whole getting arrested and stuff like that. >> i said a few people got arrested for sure. a few people in the tea party were birthers. the liberal media wanted to make it bigger, and the conservative media -- >> hundreds of people have gotten arrested. it probably is thousands. >> there were a numbers that said the birther movement is as much as 40%. that's your comparison? look, on the record, i think the tea partiers and the occupy yes, sirs have a lot of the same anger. in terms of getting arrested and doing things like that,
12:38 am
you can't compare them. >> i was talking about violence arrests. we were talking about -- we weren't talking about people being arrested. we were talking about being violent. >> was there any -- how much violence was there at tea party rallys? >> most were 85 years old waiting for tea times. so not that much. >> so it was a tea party -- a tee party t-e-e? >> i have gotten in trouble calling them names. i just call them the tea people. >> you have. them and a lot of other people. >> by the way, what is with the kitchen staff? they are pissed about calling the homeless. it is 98%. >> yes, they are waging their own class warfare. >> they are not being inclusive. it is not cool. by wait, the richmond tea party is demanding a refund of about $10,000 from the city
12:39 am
because it charged them to have rallies, but it has allowed the occupy protesters to use the same space over several weeks for free. i thought that was an interesting fact. obama says it is not as trendy to like him as it was three years ago. greg, you said president obama is somebody who needs a hug. just a note, the secret service advises against doing that. >> yes, you don't want to do that. i learned the hard way with gerald ford. >> he needed a place to stay at the time, bob, and i do care. >> you do care. >> i will get in trouble for that one. >> no, you are okay with that one. >> you said president obama had nothing good to say about himself. earlier in the speech he talked about things he accomplished over the past few years. >> sure, and he said it was a trend and a trend to be liking him. i think it was a lot of hype and i think he agreed. >> would you say we should believe the hype or don't?
12:40 am
>> don't. >> so you say he should be impeached? >> that's exactly what i'm saying. >> you don't want to impeach one of the greatest presidents we have had. >> down twinkles. >> bob, is it true you once had a monkey you bought when you were stoned? >> i did. i really did. and it ripped up my apartment and it ripped up my neighbor's apartment and we had to euthanize it. >> that's a saddening. >> greg, you used the rocky movies as an analogy for obama. but "rocky 2" a huge hit and" rocky 4" made more money than the original. are you saying he will be a four-term president? >> i think so. i do, i do. >> and i would like credit for lighting the fuse to your analogy. >> and you used a metaphor there. as though this were a bomb. interesting.
12:41 am
>> lastly americans loved guns. people who support gun rights should go to a few funerals of people who have died because of guns. i would like people who don't die from gun rights. >> that's a good shot, but it doesn't work. people who have gun -- guns in their homes and don't lock them up and kids pick them up and kill themselves. >> in the 80s and 90s americans were killed by others with guns at a rate of 5.66 per 100,000 350e78. -- people. in the last decade it has fallen 28%. even as firearms sales have sky rocketed. >> if we had no hand guns there would be a lot of fuel. >> but oddly, the more people who have guns the fewer people who are dying from -- >> there are places they are banned. >> we started talking about america. >> i'm sorry. i just wanted to go to other civilized places and talk about banning handguns. >> there are no other civilized places. there is only america. >> review time. >> let's walk out to time
12:42 am
square to prove that point. >> have i to go. >> all right, andy. see you later. >> bob, you have to go. >> i had a question for andy though. >> he is off the -- he's gone. >> they asked me to come up with a question for andy. >> you won't be around. >> can i ask him now? >> no, he is gone. >> well, what i was going to say is andy, who do you think should take the place of greg if he were off the show when he was sick and i was going to say andy. >> thanks for nothing, bob. >> don't get me wrong. it has been a pleasure as usual. >> what a great camera angle that was. >> what is next, everyone? why don't i tell you? >> what is bill schulz doing at the museum of morbid anatomy. why is anybody anywhere,it people?
12:43 am
12:44 am
12:45 am
so, what is the best place to be on halloween? aside from my counted house which is what i call my lap.
12:46 am
i would say the morbid library. that's where brooklyn's morbid anatomy library keeps the real body parts on display every single day. every day is halloween to her.
