cut. already on the table. before the super committee. so we are $600 billion down over ten area period right now and that cuts into the bone and muscle. >>alisyn: we have heard stories of the overspending or redound dance, what did you think could be cut safely? >>guest: those cuts have been made. frankly. and secretary gates, i am on his defense policies board, and i know how studious they have gone about doing this. and there is a lot of frustration in the cuts that have been made in terms of the super committee, it would devastate the military. it would take the united states military capability and dramatically reduce it. and what the viewing odeons should understand, what the united states military does in terms of the preeminence in the world is as a deterrent factor.

tell us what you found out. >>guest: this has been an "i'm not mitt romney candidate," from the beginning, first michele bachmann and then rick perry, and then herman cain and now gingrich and you look at polls romney is very steady in second place, he would be happy with second place finish in iowa but the difference between gingrich and those before is that 76 percent in iowa believe she qualified to be president, the only other candidate seen as that qualified is romney. the others running far behind. so, don't know in it will last but he has something going. >>clayton: money does not equal poll results in iowa. a 2012 hypothetical tell us what we see. >>guest: well, we have been polling on all of the candidates and romney right now trailing by six points to president obama.

he was even with the president until very recently, as gingrich has surged, romney's numbers slipping a little bit. >>alisyn: when you pair up gingrich against president obama, the president still does well. look at this, 46 percent say they would vote for president obama, in 2012 and 40 percent say gingrich. >>guest: and gingrich is moving in the other direction he was trailing by double digits a few weeks ago. but use some caution, some for romney say they will never support gingrich and those who support gingrich who will never support romney like hillary clinton supporters said they would never support obama but they d the race will be close. and key demographic group, the white working class democrat, they voted for hillary clinton not primaries in 2008 over president obama, and they voted for the president in the 2008 general election and they voted for republicans the last time around. that could make the race in michigan and ohio and

consume the health care. they are the ones raising health care costs and premiums, et cetera. and as a result of that, it would be very good idea, finally, also, from a perspective of modifying that behavior if you don't want the surcharge, stop smoking. it makes people, perhaps, think differently about what they want to do. >>dave: walmart agrees, saying the increase in premiums in tobacco users is directly related to the fact that tobacco, users consume 25 percent more health care services than nontobacco users. how can they not add the surcharge? >>guest: whether it is discriminatory the legal definition could be as stated but the fact is to discriminate is disserving and they are saying because this is a leading cause of health care costs being high, they have a right to discriminate, to charm more. well, the fact; obesity costs

more than smoking. and there will always be a leading cause of preventable death. is it alcohol next in people what have a cocktail have to fight their accomplish for health insurance? will the people would need health insurance the most fine it unaffordable? we are going down a slippery slope here and frankly i blame the democrats for this because they made it the venue of the employer to supply health insurance. that literally insulates the user of health insurance from market demand. get the employer out it, give me the tax break, give me the machine you are spending on health care and keep my employer out of it. >> this has nothing to do with politics but the practical reality. >>guest: it has everything to do with it. >>guest: this is not democt or republican. look at the statistics, half a million of people a year are dying from something that is preventable. >>guest: it has everything to

when perot made a run, 39 percent of the public were read for a third party the now, that number is 81 percent dissatisfied with the government. >>alisyn: so the time is ripe if there ever was an opportunity. with that dissatisfaction, the time is ripe. is it too late for a third party candidate to jump in? former mayor new york talked about bloomberg, flirting with a run and decided not to and he believes there is a major chance and i would like to see him pursue it. he offers independence and money to finance a campaign and to be president. he sure has that, he is a billionaire, and he could finance his campaign and jump in. now. >>clayton: no one has managed to do this even roosevelt would was president and ran after he was president on the bull moose ticket and still lost. he was president. he couldn't pull it off.

perot could not pull it off. >>dave: bloomberg stumbled and not going very smoothly. he had a position but it has not gone well the last couple of months and he has re-positioned himself the last more on two, very antiwashington, upset with washington, which made some people scrap their head but he rules it outing i think. >>clayton: we will talk to congresswoman michele bachmann but there are other candidates, ron paul has been doing well in the polls, and he was asked by hannity what he would actually run as a third party and he said no, that doesn't look like it but it is --. >>alisyn: he has as we know, fervent fans, and we get all the mails, the straw polls he wins, why wouldn't he did a third party? >>dave: he would not win in washington, he would defeat the we republicans and seal the victory of rebound and the republicans would crucify him and kill him in washington.

that is a convincing argument. he is running as a republican and still not g.o.p. primaries and would not shoot himself in the foot yet but republicans would be fearful. they would be shaking this their boots if there were a third party candidate if ron paul gets into the race, think of what that does to the votes. many believe that led to the demise of george h.w. been by ross perot and bill clinton did not have a landslide victory so people are looking to history. it will be interesting. >>dave: do you think the time is ripe for a third-party candidate and would anyone have a chance? we are on twitter, please follow us and let us know. >>alisyn: another hot topic was immigration and the latest republican front runner, gingrich, took a last heat from conservatives over his recent comments on illegal immigration and what to do with the illegal imgrands who are here so we will

immigration stand? >>guest: there is a letter the speaker where and signed, and it was actually published in the "wall street journal" along with other signatories that said that he was part of being for legalizing those who are here illegally. there is nothing about it if you are here 25 years or not, if you are here in support of president bush's amnesty policy and he was on board with that amnesty policy which many americans opposed and they melted down the phone lines in washington, dc, with their representatives. that is why president obama could not get amnesty through the congress because the american people opposed it, but gingrich is on a letter saying he was for it, even as recently as less than a year ago before the meeting of the latinos in the united states, he came out with the same policy that again said he stands for amnesty for illegal aliens. this isn't for people who have been here for 25 years, this is a path of amnesty for people who

are here in the united states. >>alisyn: what the speaker clarified as i understand it, he is saying this is not a path toward citizenship. but it is a path toward legality, people would have been here for decade whose have paid taxes, who are law-abiding citizens, make them legal because face it, we have some say 11 or 12 million people who are considered illegal imgrants here and what would you do with those people that he is describing with the people who have paid taxes and are law abiding, what would you do with them? >>guest: well, first we need to go back and clarify what your comment was. the speaker, if that is so, if he is only talking about people who have been here for 25 years, that would be completely different than the letter that he published in the "wall street journal" with no clarification of people being here 25 years which is different than the statement he made less than a year ago that he believes that people should have the pathway

to citizenship. again, this is a magnet to bring more people in to the united states. and now, the citizen panels across the united states, would the citizen panels then be a quasijudicial group? >>clayton: that is the basis of the citizens. you are getting criticism because of your september debate comment where it sounds very similar to gingrich's comments the other side. here is that comment. we will play it and have you respond to it. >> what do you do with 11.5 million here without documents and with -- >>guest: that is right. it depends upon where they live, how long they have been here they have a criminal record, all of those things have to be taken into play. >>clayton: all the variables it sounds like gingrich's stand the other night, where is the daylight here?

christmas spirit. if you want to show love to your family go out and get the latest gadgets and spend money on useless products that you don't need and some may be pretty nice of course, but this is how you show your love and we know that the holidays are about expressing your love in a way that's memories and genuine not handing over a gift saying have a nice day and have a merry christmas. >> dave: i'm all about personal responsibility, in the absence of that. does a store like wal-mart have a responsibility here to do something to change the system, to stretch out deals over the weekend. that double security? i don't know. >> they absolutely have that responsibility, and all of the suggestions that you're giving are right on, and it really needs to be about crowd control. look, we know that the retailers use psychological tricks to get people in. for example, they use certain scents that come through the vents and play music slowly and should be playing chicago music that will get people buying. >> great.
