with boeing for opening a plant in south carolina and they claimed they were violating labor laws. >> dave: now the suit has been dropped. is it a sham in stephen moore is a senior economics writer for the "wall street journal." good morning to you. in the "wall street journal" this weekend it reads: has there ever been a more blatant case of a supposedly independent agency siding with a union over management and collective bargaining? we asked you. >> well, you know, it was a sham from the start. it is important for people to realize that boeing was not being -- the reason the nlrb suit was brought was not because boeing was going to move an existing plan, and hurt existing workers -- and move existing workers from seattle to south carolina and they were saying they could not open a new facility in south carolina. now, here's the interesting thing. that has never happened before in labor history, where the federal government told an american company that they could loce a plant in location a but not in location b.
6:47 am
now, here's the way it turned out. after -- over a year the issue was been fermenting and the nlrb finally dropped the suit when the labor union got what they wanted from boeing in their negotiations. that is why i think it was a sham is because it was used as a bargaining chip for the labor unions to win concessions from boeing. >> alisyn: let me tell you what the nlrb says about this. from the beginning of the case, and at every step of the process, we have encouraged the parties to find a mutually acceptable resolution, to protect the rights of workers under federal labor laws. and, in other words, they are making it sound as they were a more neutral party than you say they were. >> because here's the appointment. it -- here's the point. it is a great point but no workers in seattle were jeopardized. they were not moving an existing plan and firing workers in seattle. they were opening up a new plant and there were no workers in

seattle hurt by the move. i do believe it was -- essentially, what boeing did here, was they essentially paid a ransom to the union for the right to move a new -- build a new plant in south carolina. by the way, it will create thousands of jobs in south carolina. so i think it was a move to give more power to the union. the nlrb, ali, is supposed to be a neutral and unbiased arbitrator in these cases and, in the case it was not. >> dave: is it a one-off case or the notion that the nlrb is an independent agency is gone. >> at least under this administration, almost all the decisions made, not just in nlrb but most of the regulatory agencies have been tilted in favor of the unions and that is not surprising. barak obama owes his election to the unions, and in my opinion, dave, this was pay back for the union, but has big implications for anyone watching the show, dave, who lives in a right-to-work state and we have 20 states that don't have forced

unionism. this intervention by the nlrb hurts states like south carolina, like alabama and many of the southern and western states, that do not have forced union requirements, because, what we found in our analysis at the "wall street journal," a lot of businesses are moving to states that don't have forced union laws. >> alisyn: we shall see what repercussions it has, steve moore from the "wall street journal," thanks. >> hey, ali i hope you saved one of those baked alaska cup cakes for me. >> alisyn: they are good. clayton has not eaten all of them yet. >> dave: thanks for paying attention, steve, appreciate it. what gift do you get the guy who seems to have everything? we'll see what made our list. next! ♪ my name is robin. i'm a wife, i'm a mom... and chantix worked for me. it's a medication i could take and still smoke,
