part that have burden. >> at the end of the day the payroll tax will get extended the way it is now, it won't get expanded, but we'll find a way to pay for it in a bipartisan fashion. the idea of taxing one group to pay for a tax cut for another is not going to sell and the pipeline probably is not going to sell and it's important that we extend the tax cut through next year. >> and 160 million workers would benefit from a continuation of that payroll tax cut, harris. >> steve centanni, thank you very much. we want to help put this payroll tax cut into some perspective. congress passed it in december of last year, as part after larger tax agreement. that same deal also extended the bush era tax cuts that applied to americans in all income groups. in addition, the social security payroll tax dropped from 6.2% of wages to 4.2% of what was earned. but again, that cut expires january 1st. president obama now wants to extend and expand it. lowering the tax rate to 3.1%,
