what do you advise the front runner at this point? >> here is what i'd advise them to do if they listen to me. first, the american people want to hear what specifically will you do in order to turn this economy around? what specifically will you do for regulatory reform? give me specific ideas as to what you would do for energy independence. that is what the american people want to hear. at the debate saturday night, sean, the two biggest revelations weren't reported on. that was newt gingrich and michele bachmann made the satement we need to throw out the tax code. who said that first? i did. i'm glad they finally have gotten to that point. where the others still wrestle with how big on reform of the 2,082 page tax code. number one, be as specific as possible about their specific solutions. secondly, if it were me, everybody ought to be contrasting what they would do with barack obama.

9:16 pm
i don't see how the strategy could work? >> no. core strategy for 2012. no candidate defended obamacare or said the stimulus was good. there is one important thing going on now. our candidates are getting vetted. i use this metaphor at the end of the last shore. you grimaceed but is it the right metaphor. you had eight and you sprayed them all with roach spray. herman cain couldn't handle it. somebody else dropped out. tim pawlenty dropped out. the one that will emerge, the one that will survive is the one that is immune. the one that can't be hit with negatives. >> sean: newt? >> newt or romney certainly and see who he decides the roach spray the best. that is what they are going through.

>> sean: i thought immediately on abc was that the $10,000 bet offer to perry shows how out of touch that mitt romney. is i thought it was ridiculous. >> i disagreed with that. i thought romney did well. >> i did, too. >> i predict a tightening of the polls. >> sean: i thought newt did well, too. >> but it was not newt's best performance. i thought romney was terrific. i think it is clear that the democratic establishment wants to run against newt over romney because newt is more conservative. i think he will tap in fashion and get more people involved and ene energized. they say romney is pro-choice and for health reform and therefore is a tougher sell with independents. in the last poll, independents by two to one think that romney would be a stronger candidate than newt. so the democrats are trying to nominate gingrich.
9:18 pm
>> sean: you know something, i disagree with everybody. i think anybody on that stage will be infinitely better. in spite of their disagreements that we saw saturday, thursday debate on fox is crucial. because whatever happens in that debate, if anybody is damaged in the debate, it will last through the holidays and what people talk about at christmas dinner. with that said, they are going to repeal healthcare. i believe all of them. i don't think they are using -- i think they want to repeal healthcare and they want less regulation. the president is right. not to poisen the air and water. they want to unleash entrepreneurialism by lowering taxes and limiting spending. >> what i thought wednesday strong about romney in the debate saturday, when he would discuss the nature of the republican primary and go after obama, probably 80% of his comments were anti-obama.
9:19 pm
he was more anti-obama than the other candidates up there. the others were focused at the dynamic going on. that is a moment that made me want to throw up. george stephanopoulos, hitman for the democratic party, and is never impartial and never will be set up a question about marital fidelity. at first he asked -- >> sean: so obvious. >> six other candidates. >> sean: then newt? i know. >> newt? i thought gingrich handled it really well. >> sean: two last questions and i talked to herman cain about this. michele bachmann saying newt newt/romney, newt newt/romney. is that effective? and what about the gingrich line about ted kenned versus him being. >> i thought romney was terrific in that comeback when she said i wanted to play in the n.f.l., too. >> sean: i thought it was good because a lot of humor. >> i think that, i don't think that romney-gingrich worked

while they do it, they show to pictures of newt reacting to the other candidates and pictures of his wife. this was a setup by the media to try for maximum humiliation. they would never do this to a democratic candidate. if they would, the next debate with obama they would ask about bill ayers and show video of bill ayers in the corner of the screen and say why did you hang out with a terrorist and give speeches with the guy? >> you are right with the media picking on newt. but the biggest people picking on newt are republicans trying to beat him. people who put money in, trying to beat the guy are republicans. >> sean: it's a republican primary at this point. >> the group is not conspiring to stop newt gingrich. simple as that. i understand why they are nervous about gingrich. the idea of mitt romney as president of the united states is as frightening as i can imagine. >> saying that trust is important to president.
9:48 pm
like a marriage. there has to be trust there. i went in the debate not necessarily a newt fan. i knew about the choices he made in his life. my goodness, he was so strong. he made others look inexperienced. >> i think democrats would love newt gingrich to get the nomination. >> why? >> newt gingrich is a fat, grumpy, white guy. he will go up against a black, hip, basketball player. >> who has failed the country. >> it's like michael jordan against chas bono. >> even though he is well-spoken? >> fabulous but not the person for my president. i don't care if he sleeps with everybody in the studio. that has nothing to do with anybody's ability to lead.

9:56 pm
more than a platform it's responsibility and obligation to be a great role model and set a great example. it's one thing to score touchdowns and win trophies and championships. at the end of the day, that doesn't matter. >> sean: while other professional athlete mace be out partying with women, drinking, doing drugs, tebow explained the secret for resisting the temptations. >> i think the number one way that you handle that is obviously by having a strong faith and relying on that. staying in the world. by having a great support staff around you. having friends that keep you accountable. >> sean: joining me is the author of the book "tebow mystique." managing editor of paththeos.com patheos.com. >> all the experts said he would fail because of his playing style. you have people who recent he is successful with the unorthodox playing style. some people don't like the overt religiosity. some people just don't like
