the spoiling that, it's milquetoast. please always remember the spin and w w w w w w w w w w w w w wt for you. >> sean: tonight on this edition you will hear from karl rove, stewart var fleyd and christine o'donnell is here with an exclusive announcement who she will endorse for the republican nomination. first, three weeks is all that remain before the iowa caucuses and newt and mitt seem to have separated themselves from the gop movement, that could change, in sioux city, the candidates will have one final opportunity to win the support of caucus goers at the fox news channel debated. here with a preview of that event.
9:01 pm
the author of the "new york times" best-seller, "courage and consequence," karl rove. sir, how are you? >> fabulous. >> sean: i'm looking at gallup. is big business, big government. what is the biggest threat. you probably think big business would be at the top? >> no big government always is. >> sean: 64% big government. one point shy of all time high. what do you make of that? >> this has been, this as it's been for a long time. media gets spun about big business but what people don't like about business is when big business gets in bed with big government. what has gotten people upset, since over over the last several years, if you are political pals and like this, tied into administration, you are going to get special treatment or special
9:02 pm
benefit. the route is with we have seen it time and again, whether the chrysler deal or auto companies or solyndra. jeesz what happened to jon corzine that continue explain what happened to the $1.2 billion that somehow disappeared out of customer accounts. >> sean: this is very interesting analysis. because you have four groups of voters that were critical for obama's victory in 2008. you have two groups of voters that went against them in 2008 and you have analyzed where they are today and this i think could be a look into the future and see where things might go in 2012. >> this is provoked by the new poll showing battleground states romney is beating obama by 48-43. newt gingrich is beating obama by 48-45. these are the states that
9:03 pm
determine the outcome of the election. if you look inside the gallup numbers and look at the president's approval rating from the time he was sworn in, you find out among young people he has dropped 27 points. college graduates, 24. hispanics and independents, 23. these are four groups that really determine along with african-american who has is going to be president in 2008. now among two groups were not with him in the beginning. they have gotten less and that is middle-class voters, with a household income of $24,000 and $96,000 a year and seniors who have turned more against him. if you had to define where the 2012 election was going to be fought out, this is it right here. >> sean: thursday night we have the debate. we'll be in sioux city, iowa. we'll talk to the candidates and
9:04 pm
do our analysis. if you were to advise the front runners and some of the candidates that are lagging behind, i would argue this is the most important debate. after thursday, people are going to start headed into christmastime mode. after thursday, whatever narrative emerges i would argue is going to be discussed at the christmas table. that leads into the iowa caucus. what would you advised top tier candidates and those that want to make head way? >> i agree with you this the big pointed before the christmas health. on the 22nd people will stop paying attention to politics. what happened around the holiday table, the holiday party with family and friends, that is going to matter more in determining people's attitudes. there is going to be a week beeen thursday of the debate and the time that people shut down for the holidays. you have to do really well in
9:05 pm
the debate and you better have a plan to make use of those dates, friday, saturday, sunday, monday tuesday, wednesday, it's not just the debate, it's how you bend what happens in the debate that is going to matter. >> sean: i thought the debate on saturday night was quite substantive. abc and some of the blogs, big gaffe by mitt romney over his $10,000 bet. he was smiling at the time he said it. perry was smiling at the time he said it. do you think it was a big mistake? >> i didn't think was big mistake. if he had said $5 or $10, this is the point on the debates. there have been a lot of good things for the republican field. let's be honest, they have empowered the media more. they could have picked up after the debate, the gaffe was
9:06 pm
gingrich spending billions of dollars on a lunar base. the media gets to decide what the post narrative is going to be like. there is nothing we can do about it. >> sean: let's go to mitt romney. what were you going to advise him, what does he need to do on thursday night? >> he needs on thursday night make it clear there are differences between he and newt gingrich and those differences are important to the voters of iowa and elsewhere. they go to the issue of the general election. for example i thought he made an interesting pointed saying in the sense, gingrich ought to take the money he took from freddie mac back. he said we need to make this an issue, fannie mae and freddie mac and gingrich can't do it
9:07 pm
because he took that money. if he wants to be free of that issue and be able to exploit it he better give the money back. i think he needs to put this in a general election frame. >> sean: those numbers are pretty interesting. both of these swing states, both gingrich and romney are beating obama. i think the numbers will grow. what about gingrich? what would you advise him. people have been waiting for him to slip up and make a mistake. so far he has shown more discipline than people anticipated. >> that's right. i think he needs to keep showing discipline. we've had an example of bad discipline over the last 24 hours. romney said you have to give the money back and he attacked romney from the left which was when you were ahead of capital,
9:08 pm
you threw people out of work. if he is going to attack romney, don't attack him from the left. if you are going to say relechbt and disown anybody, don't go negative f even if you feel the impulse. resist it. he has done well so far by looking well informed and positive on the stage. >> sean: some of other candidates. is there anything rick santorum, michele bachmann was aggressive in the last debated. number two, 1-point behind gingrich is guy named ron paul? >> ron paul and rick santorum are going to overperform in iowa. they are well organized. paul, iowa is sort of an isolation state. there will be a college kids of anti-attracted to the anti-war
9:09 pm
message and there will be democrats. ron paul will overperform. rick santorum has dug in. people that i talked to tell me they think they he is going to overperform. we may have a complicated iowa but the question wille how big and the question will be how closely bunched will the top three or four candidates. this is a low turnout thing, 120,000 people turn out. in a midterm gubernatorial, there was like 240,000 republicans turn out. i think paul and santorum are going to overperform. >> sean: maybe we'll see you thursday night. ann coulter. danaperina has results of a shocking new people.
