[applause] members of the army, navy and air force and marine corp and coast guard along with their families. we thank you for your service. >> that's right. and welcome to everyone here at home and merry christmas to you all. >> christmas is filled with angels and we get to meet every day angelos fox and friends. we meet people who overcame extraordinary challenges and most recently that comes to mind is a connecticut mom. each one of her three sons had facial paralysis. they had difficulty eating or smeeking and never smile.

after years of senching, lisa found a surgeon to perform surgery and three months later her oldest son smiled for the first time. lisa is now working with operation smile to help thousands of other kid in the poverty stricken places get this surgery . the point, that her own family's ordeal made her reach out and help others. we see that spirits of generosity all of the time on our show. >> i was also touch happened by an angel on fox and friends. it was back in january and i interviewed roxanna green. mom of the little girl gunned down in tuson last january. i had to dig deeper than ever before in my television career as a journalist and mom of two small children myself. it was a painful interview. and i felt that angelic spirit of that beautiful little girl was with us as we remembered

her the next day and later on this shower. and angel who are watching out for all of us are those who serve and protect and keep us flee. and the troops who make a dual sacrifice. and merry christmas. and before we get their angel stories. let me introduce you to my personal angel. who helped to get me to haiti. can i talk to you. the u.s. marine corp had my back and afghanistan staff sergeant torres. and navy lieutenant, sorry lieutenant wagner. start with you. rank has its privilege.

tell me an angel in your life. his name is ray perez. i am a native of new york and i was pretty much having a rough childhood growing up he actually mentored me and put me on a better path and inspired me to be a marine and the way i pay it now. i am a mentor in my community in the bronx for high school students and when i can, i participate in the toys for tots for marines. >> excellent, excellent story and i believe that it is one of the great ways to get social mobility to get out of the rough neighborhoods and get the capacity to go back and help others. i am sure ray perez is very proud of you. how is the navy. >> great, and getting better every day. >> who is the angel in your life? >> i had the awesome privilege for those graduating from the naval academ yethree the of i guys. two marines and navy seal

brendon loaney all died in service to the country and these were guys who impacted me. and and men of courage of that nature and inspired me and my wife and i talked about starting a career in navy medicine and going in on the medical side in the navy. we may not be able to save jp or roni or brendan but there will be others. >> you had three guys on the navy varity football team that perished. >> it is others. not just navy football. but people in the crowd have stories like that. christmas time, army and navy and a lot of families who are not able to watch that game with the service member over seas. >> and the guys who go in the service acaddly know if they want to pay pro ball they have to wait until after active duty service. >> it is's pleasure to tuke to

a brother needed a kidney to survive. but she couldn't be considered her weight. she found motivation to lose work. through hard work and determination she lost 135 pound and able to save her brother's life and give up her kidney. joining us right now carrey roberts and brother tony and mother martha. thank you for coming down here. first of all tony. you had what disease. ige kidney disease. >> you don't know where it

came from and how is it affecting your life? >> in the beginning not too much. i had high blood pressure and that's how they found out. in the last few years i was tired and run down and stamina was not there and you don't notice that you are feeling bad until it gets to the point where you need it. >> martha, what are you thinking during this. we don't know where it is going, right? >> i was hoping that someone would be able to give him a kidney when he would need it. >> a few years later, it turns out you would need it. what are your thoughts as a sister. you are close kari growing up. your thought was what in >> i was scared for him and right away i wanted to be tested and he informed that i was too overweight to be considered as a donor at the time.

>> tough to get a kidney but you have to lose weight. you don't know you are a match. only way you can help is lose weight and a lot of it. what did you do in >> watching what i was eating . eating low fat and then i started to walk a mile a day to start can then miles and three mimes. and tony, the hole time you are weaker and martha you are watching your daughter losing weight and your son getting weaker. like a bad movie. >> i knew that kari was determined and she was working at it and she wanted do it, i knew she was going to probably lose the weight and be tested. >> how long until you lost the weight. >> it was two years. >> two years later you lose the weight and go to the doctor. they set up appointments for me to start the testing.

it was a cross match test to see if i was a match and couple of weeks later they call said i was a perfect match. >> tony, what are you thinking? >> thrill exclude happy that you know, it was really happy, i don't know how to put it. it seems like all happened for a reason. i wanted my sister to get health yelose weight and it was working out for both of us. >> i know you are close and siblings. but to say take my kidney. that is no small move. >> that is huge. >> yeah, i was not surprised kari stepped up. we are close. >> how do you feel? >> i feel fantastic different and like i have not in a long time. your kidney is working that

all of my friends at fox and friends merry christmas and happy hanukkah and happy holidays. i have an uncanny ability to find all of the presents before being put under the tree. it doesn't matter where my parents hid it. i always found it and i go to christmas morning and what a surprise. took all of the fun out of christmas. it helped me to be a better

♪ well, this next story is an inedible one about faith. nine year old christina taylor green was gunned down in the tucson tragedy. we were touched by her mother's strength. she knew her daughter was called to be an angel and trying to keep her spirit

alive by helping other kids and their dreams. it is so good to see you in person. you were so brave on that day and continue to be so brave. >> thank you very much. we are grateful to be here and thank you for having us. >> i want you to have the opportunity to remember chris tin a. she had gone to see congresswoman gabreille giffords. she was excited about meeting her and learning about government. >> she wanted to ask her various questions and learn how to give back to her local community. and she was such a gregarous little girl. one of the things i remember about her. she was the only girl on the baseball team, right? >> she was tenacious and a lot of confidence and athletic. >> her interest in government meant that she was patriotic, right? >> she told you what she

wanted to do in life? >> yes, she did. mommy, i want to be a star. i said singer or model. what do you want to be? i would like to be a president or sing with beyonce or major league female baseball player. she had big hopes and dreams. >> for a parent and some of the parents that are watching this, they just feel for you. and now that she's gone, one of the things that is helping you get through all all of this is to know she is an angel in heaven, in what way? >> my husband and i and our family have a deep faith and believe. and we know that christina is with god and her grandma which is my mom and he had a bigger her againhe needed to work in some day. we try not to be sad.

but concentrate on the fond memories and nine wonderful years. >> for some of us who have not lost a child. when you are trying to work through your pain and setting up a charit neher honor is that a way to numb the pain that you feel? >> i think it is very therapeutic and healing for my husband and our son and inner circle bunch of friend and family that worked hard to make this foundation a reality it is very healing for all of us. >> it is called caring through giving memorial foundation. what have you built so far in her honor. >> it is actually christina-tailor-green.org. we received our nonprofit status in november. and we are hoping to fulfill the dreams and goals that we had with her.

as a family we will do that on a larger scale. >> i thand a playground was built in her honor. >> yes, at her old school where mason elementary. there is a beautiful playground and i know she is smiling from heaven seeing in delight that her classmates received a new playground. >> colors are red, white and blue. >> she was very patriotic like you said and she would be proud of the kids selecting red, white and blue in her honor. >> look at that beautiful shot of the rainbow. speaking of angels, i can see her looking down right now roxanne a. and one of the other things that came from this, other students are inspired by christina's story and they wrote you letters. >> we received card and letters from all over the country and a lot of students

[ applause ] welcome back to a fox and friends christmas. this is a little different than the regular fox and friends show. we usually don't have a studio audience but today we do and might i add you look marvelous, folks! give yourselves a hand. >> of course, this time of year it is always special but not always the same. and for a few of us it is very different this christmas. >> absolutely. it is entirely different. the first time that i get to see my son's face on christmas morning. the wonder in his eyes as he opens gifts and crawls around and says ho ho ho. we have been working on that but he throws a few more in so it is like ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. >> overachiever are. >> i love watching the bonder in my children's eyes as well. this year we will be celebrating another miracle.

my wife brandy and i found out we are having a third childed. and three times as expensive. every time ier that baby jesus cry i'm alert a little glimpse at christmas future. >> peaky jesus from the show baby jesus. >> for many of the men and women of our military this year will be different because they are home. let's go over to geraldo who is with some of the troops who just returned and you saw them in action, right, geraldo? geraldo i did and that is what is so sweet today, brian is to be with the fellows just by chance that i had the honor of being with over there. let's start with air force master sergeant jeremy laneer. we met in haiti, when you signed up to fight our nations wars did you think you would be doing this kind of humanitarian work helping in the case of haiti as the world knows the people suffering from the

catastrophic earthquake. >> that was part of what inspired me to come into the air force. you knew as america we were able to get out and help those less fortunate. that was a great opportunity for our base to get out there and help in the humanitarian relief effort. it was awesome geraldo ever give up saying oh, my god there is so much suffering out there we can only do so much, you know, where do you start? >> no, sir,, i would never think of it as the glass half empty. i think of it as what can we accomplish and how much more can we do. be even if it is just a little bit it is ha much more in the world. >> you can't call me, sir. i'm private geraldo. gunnery sergeant, how are you doing. he had my back in the first hour in helmud province in afghanistan where the united states marines have been working so far away from home. into the second decade of this

endless war. how do the united states marines keep up their spirit, how do you connect with your families at home? >> in a lot of different ways through e-mail, phone call. it is nice to be with your fellow marines in combat at christmas time but also very special to have your families near and dear to your heart and there is a tremendous amount of support to them and that means a tremendous amount geraldo there cannot be a more remote piece of property on this god's planet than helmud province, afghanistan. you can't be further away. one thing i found of interest at the forward operating bases is there was a communication ability that never existed in previous wars. you guys are chatting skype or over computers and with your families at home. does that help or hurt? >> i think it helps tremendously just to have that daily contact. in most cases everybody has got that ability and it as great way to keep up your motivation

and your spirits. geraldo and then after all these casualties, so many, you know of those tough engagements, so many deployments, so many kids now, you know, he has got a one-year-old and his wife is pregnant. his 20-year-old wife is pregnant. you are getting paid what most people would consider sub standard wages for the job you do. how do you keep up morale? >> i think when we take up to be marines we know what comes with the job and we are are happy to do it. we are proud to do it. we are a part of something that is very worth while and that brotherhood, that camaraderie, that being always faithful to our brothers and sisters, it is really important and that is what keeps us fighting strong. >> semper fi. >> the christmas music of mannheim steamroller, now the number one selling christmas

music group of all time with more than 30 million albums sold in the last 30 years has a new album called manheim steamroller symphony christmas. matt davis is the face of the group and has something built something that passed elvis presley a long time ago as the most est selling christmas group of all time. how did you do it and go in through the side door of the music industry and change the genre? >> when i came out with the first christmas album everybody said that will never work. i like a challenge. i went after the retailers individually and spoke to them and went out and tried to sell one album at a time. the next thing i knew the first year we sold 9 million albums and there we were on our way. >> how do you explain the timelessness of it? >> a lot has to do with a couple of things. it is passed on from generations to generation.

moms and dads fashionista on to their kids and on to their kids. that is part of it. the other part is i have taken traditional christmas songs and done a certain amount in exactly the way the songs were originally intended but then i flip them over and mannheim them so th kind of updates them. >> here is mannheim steamroller with deck the halls. ♪

and we would spend a lot of time in queens. we love queens and we still love queens. >> ivanka, you were saying that is your memory being a little kid. >> very norm man rockwellesque. the big tree and the presents and a great home cooked dinner by my grand mother. >> even as you got older you would head out to queen foss matter what tower your dad was building. >> christmas day we were in queens. we didn't start the rest of the holidays until after that was done. it was a great experience and really much more normal than a lot of people would give us credit for. >> christmas morning was as magical as the traditional christmas. >> we always had a great christmas tree. today you can't use the word christmas tree you call it a holiday tree. but i will never do that. it is a christmas tree to me. we haded a beautiful christmas tree and my mother would put up presents early. we would get up at 2:00 in the morning and go downstairs and she would say no, too early, go

pack to bed. so you couldn't sleep. it was a lot of fun. >> christmas is a molly henneberg day of giving where for the most part my image is you don't really need a lot or want a lot. how do you keep the christmas spirit alive and still exchange gifts. >> i think it is about putting the priority on collectivity, being together as a family as opposed to the actual presents. what we remember about the holidays was not any one present we steve. if fact, we probably don't remember most of them. it was about coming together as is a family and spending the afternoon together and eating way too much of my grandmother's home cooked food. that is what the priority is and that is what is so great about the holidays. >> eric, do you shut off the blackberry, not talk business. is it possible when you are in the same business. >> there was no blackberry. >> that is not possible but there was no blackberry. >> it is what we love. we have a lot of kid in the family. done has three kids and ivanka

has a new born. >> and that esolved to our own tradition. as a family what that is what we do today. obviously and unfortunately our grandparents are no longer aleve on my father's side. we have taken the tradition and gone down to florida. >> how does this change now that you are a grand parent is this deja vu? >> it as cycle. i had great parents. they were really just terrific people. >> it you ever shut is down and reflect be on your lives, what you have achieved and accomplished together? >> we do. even for us we can turn the business side off a little bit and when we get together you can see it in his sense of humor. the way we get along and you have seen us off camera. we have fun poking fun at ourselves and having a good time and playing with my children and watching him play

with my kids. it is just amazing and he has gotten to the point perhaps where he can step out of that a little pitt and be a great grandfather. i think my daughter loves him more than she loves me because for us there is a lethal component of discipline. it is fun for us to capture the images and engrain them in your mind. >> your final christmas wish to people washing around the clobber over 100 countries. here it is christmas day. >> it would be great if there could be peace. unfortunately there never will be ultimately. this world is a tough place. i just wish for peace for everybody. >> eric? >> christmas really speaks to family. speaks to religious beliefs. you know, it speaks to community, getting together, community service. philanthropy. that is what it means to me and to this family. eating copious is amounts of

myco-hosts are. our fox and friends family is growing. >> yes, its. >> i have some favorite christmas photos as well. this goes back maybe five years or so. this is my husband casey and my daughter ci kia at the time. it was emblematic of the angel going on top of the tree and we have been heralding angels today as well. what more to christmas than putting the angel at the top of the tree. also have pictures that you can use against somebody later on. here is my son christian vacuuming in his diaper when was just almost two. >> he had a job already. >> we had just opened christmas gifts on christmas morning and i just like my dad who was always vacuuming the house maybe it is in the gene its he decided it was time to clean up. >> he is not wearing jeans. >> he is not. he was still in the pampers. >> my christmas pictures are moving, movie pictures. i make them every christmas morning.

and we pray that his grace and majesty will light up our homes and our lives brighter than any string of lights we could ever buy at sam's club. we live for all his coming means. in depression days past, my parents hoped that christmas day brought some fresh oranges, sugar candy or even extra wood or coal to heat the kitchen. my wife blanche dreamt of a doll with longhair to brush. my brother and i hoped for the 007 racetrack. even as i dreamt what i could get on christmas morning my parents taught us how important it was to give back. i admired the generosity of my mother who opened the christmas store. she found reason to give away rather than sell most of the ornaments. >> my sister blanche and i always knew how lucky we were at christmas. in working with children at the association to benefit children

the knew that the hope of christmas to come was too often unrealized for some children. year i decided to make candy covered christmas trees which will be part of the dinner at ronald mcdonald house for children fighting their family's cancer together. >> i remember as a boy of 11 or 123 years old speaking at friday night advent bible vigils to a barely occupied saint joseph's church in greenwich village. congregation of widows who miled as they walked that young man in a jacket and tie, read isaiah. behold the serr virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name emanuel. and they beamed as i continued the key of the house of david will i lay upon his shoulder and the government shall be

about dax's story tell us about the brave little two-year-old. >> he was born to us a h healthy baby june 26. he was 9-pounds 6-ounces and perfect to us. you you know, when you see your first baby, we were so in love. and by the time he was 13 months, he had just been -- had constant, constant fevers and ear infections that turn inside eye infections and we just could not get them to stop. and everybody told me it was just a virus and that it would be okay and that these antibiotics would take care of it. eventually dax went completely lethargic and we found the cancer. >> so he had a rare form of leukemia. only 15 children a year get this form. often times leukemia is able to

be cured. they told you you around halloween that he would not make it to christmas. >> they gave us a 50/50 chance we he first got diagnosed whether or not he was going to make it. so it was really tough as a parent to hear that. it is one of the worst things you can hear. >> and so you decided that you wanted to grant his wish because he was just starting to get into the christmas lights and you started to set up christmas then and there and you would take him out on rides and what would you do? >> they told us he wasn't going to make it until christmas so we looked at each other and we were like we have to give dax a christmas so austin pulled out the christmas tree early. it was -- i remember there was trick or treaters at my door when we had christmas lights up so it was before halloween. and neighbors started asking what is going on and that is how it spread. >> and you would take them out and look at the lights and all of the commune th community god

and put up lights like this with his name. >> that is the front of our house actually. that s a complete strange's home that heard about our story. it didn't just cover our whole town. it started going to different states and then we got a picture from baghdad, someone had their barracks set up with dax christmas lights on them. we were so honored. >> and he made it through christmas. >> he did. >> and he passed away on december 30. >> december 30. he was very peaceful and i'm so grateful to have had st. jude. they kept him very comfortable and gave us every opportunity to cherish every moment that we could with him. >> st. jude gave us an extra year to spend with dax and that is priceless to us. >> and one of the things that you have ton in his honor is set up in foundation. >> i began a foundation called
