the president? "fox & friends" starts right now. >> good morning, everyone. thanks for getting up bright and early. we've been doing "fox & friends" for an hour. we started at 5:00 today because it's the political season and last night was new hampshire so who won? mitt romney and guess who is going to be on our show coming up, mitt romney will join us along with the second place finisher, ron paul and rick perry who has been spending the last week in south carolina. >> if only he had come in third place, rick perry, he would have loved last night. >> yep. >> dana perino will join us from "the five" and she's got a lot of insight in politics. it's been her business for a very long time. >> let's take a look at what happened last night if you're just waking up, you'll be fascinated by this result. even if you saw 85% of the precincts reporting, you didn't see this. romney ended up with 39%. we've had 36% and 37% and in the end, 39%.
3:02 am
ron paul feels very good about his 23% and governor huntsman has done enough to stay in the race. he surged enough to stay there, good luck in south carolina where he's done very little work. newt gingrich and rick santorum are both in a dead heat. both are disappointed and governor perry didn't try. >> the thing about the newt number where he's tied with santorum, there was no noticeable anti-newt super pac ads on the tv up there so why did he -- a couple of months ago he had been doing very well across the board. not in new hampshire, of course, because that's where mitt romney has a weekend home. he's lived there for very long time. last night when he came out to accept the victory in new hampshire, the president of the united states not looking at the back of the pack, looking straight ahead at the president of the united states. >> this president wakes up every morning, looks out across america and is proud to announce

ron paul who says he's not going anywhere even though he's said i'm not going to compete in florida. i think he has to rethink that. here he is last night. >> have to chuckle when they describe you and me as being dangerous! that's one thing they are telling the truth because we are dangerous to the status quo! >> and along that same vain, here's one reason why ron paul probably did so well in new hampshire. independents in new hampshire are up. the electorate up to 45%. that's up from over just a little bit of a third in 2008. so if you consider 33% to 45%, a lot of those independent voters probably went for ron paul and now it's up to mitt romney to figure out how did he get those voters to come to him? >> by the way, ron paul dominates, oldest guy in the field dominates with the younger

conservative, 13% of the voters leaving the polls said they wanted that true conservative. not a huge surprise that number is a little low. the 2008 exit polling said about 21% of voters leaving the polls find themselves very conservative as for feelings about obama, a lot of the voters leaving the polls yesterday felt angry. 40% said they felt angry. 42% said dissatisfied. 12% said satisfied. and just 3% said they were still enthusiastic as far as their feelings were concerned about the president. fascinating information coming out of those exit polls. i had a chance to speak with a lot of the voters on the ground and they really mirrored what those exit polls had to say. guys, back to you. >> all right, molly, thank you very much. speaking of polls, a new cbs poll out that shows that the two frontrunners on the republican side in new hampshire would really give the president of the united states a run for his money if they had the election today, mitt romney would be the president of the united states. he beats the current president by two. ron paul right there, nipping at

nomination. the issue is that as long as both gingrich and santorum are in this race and they're now at 10 each in new hampshire and there was no distance between them, then they are going to split that vote and romney will coast in. if one of them pulls out and there was even some speculation that one of them might later today. there was some talk about that, then there's a chance for the other one to go against romney. but right now, romney is winning because he's dividing and conquering. >> i want to bring your attention to this 9:00 a.m. eastern time speech that newt gingrich is apparently going to make this morning. here's his spokesperson's statement. bottom line is you're going to see the most authentic candidate who is running for president who is not worried what the consequences will be put forth the truth as people see it in their lives every day. what are we to make from that? >> it sounds like it's a regular hype for a candidate's speech. and it sounds like he's sort of teasing them that he might have a major announcement in the course of giving the speech. but there's been some scuttlebutt that there have been
