lusher. the spin stops right here because we are definitely looking out for you. >> sean: tuesday, santorum has once again shaken up the race for the g.o.p. nomination. front-runner mitt romney responds as the battle to take down president obama continues. controversial social issues and alarming national security matters have been injected back into the 2012 debate. which of the final four candidates is best suited to right the ship? and the divider in chief does the unthinkable unites
6:01 pm
republicans against the contraception mandate. all of that plus the weekly obama mania media bias. hasn't in an event starts right now. >> the race to take on president obama is anybody's guess. all eyes were on rick santorum as he won all three contests. the rest of the g.o.p. field is looking ahead to the races coming up in michigan, maine, arizona and beyond. joining me is mitt romney. how are you? >> i am terrific. >> sean: what do you make, you had great momentum, you took nevada and rick santorum comes up with a hat trick. he got three states. what do you make with the volatility of the race? >> we each chose the places we would compete aggressively in
6:02 pm
florida, nevada, won both of those races. i got a lot of delegates. he left and went off to the other states that didn't have delegates. he made a good showing there. we'll have a lot of race down the road. part of the success was due to the fact that speaker gingrich had a campaign that sort of disappeared from those states. long way to go. i'm pleased with the delegates i've got. i hope to get a lot more. >> sean: the headline on the drudge report, the gloves are off as former senator santorum seems to be going directly at a you. is this going to be gingrich versus romney versus santorum. i think it's his opportunity to be a leading contenders. he hasn't been as visible in the sweepstakes but he is now. he will be under the microscope.
6:03 pm
obviously some of the things he said are troubling, he voted five times to raise the debt ceiling without compensating reductions in spending is a problem. the fact in washington, government spending grew by 80%. he is defender of earmarks. i think spending in washington is out of control. i wouldn't raise the debt ceiling without getting compensating reductions in federal spending. >> you are going to be speaking at c pasm c and i remember your speech going back after the 2008 process. actually i remember i think was the best speeches you gave. it seems like it's an opportunity for you, i had karl rove discussing this last night. you still seems not been able to close the deal. these were his words with conservatives within the republican party. what will you say to them when you go to cpac to tell them i
6:04 pm
will govern as a conservative. you can put your trust in me? >> first i note i won conservatives in new hampshire and won conservatives in florida. won conservatives in nevada and most delegates in this race, i wouldn't say i don't get good support from conservatives. but first, describing the challenge we face as a nation, but secondly i look at my record and describe it as governor. some of those things get hidden but economically we balance the budget every year. we put in place a rainy day fund of about $2 billion. some things we didn't talk a lot. we had a attack on religious liberty in massachusetts as well and they passed a bill for the morning after bill. insist church provide it, i
6:05 pm
vetoed the bill. i fought the intrusion on religious liberty in my state. we'll talk about marriage. supreme court of my state begin a process of providing for same-sex marriage. i led the charge to put in place an amendment that would reverse their decision. we missed by one vote in the legislature. i have a record being a strong conservative on the issues that matter and i'm going to point that out when i go to cpac. >> let me ask you about this religious liberty issue as it relates to the mandate that would force the catholic church to provide services that goes against their values. did you deal with this in massachusetts. in the end. health care that got passed in massachusetts did allow for these things but there is more to the story.
6:06 pm
you vetoed it and the democratic legislature was able to override it? >> actually the provision in massachusetts is different than the one in obamacare. it was actually put in place prior to my becoming governor. so insurance policies in massachusetts had similar provisions but not the same as obama's. that went in before i came into office. when i came into office and we were working on healthcare i fought to remove those mandates from coverages. i was unsuccessful in getting the legislature to do that. obviously when you got a legislature that is 85 democratic you could understand. we saw throughout my term where liberals try and make america more secular and try infringe on people's rights to be free worship of religion. i had to battle that with w the morning afternoon pill. i had to battle that with cloning.
6:07 pm
time and again the values you are seeing fought on the national battlefield today. >> sean: we have a lot of foreign policy issues on the table. one, hostage crisis in egypt. a slaughter taking place in syria. thirdly we've got iran becoming very aggressive continuing their pursuit of nuclear weapons. number one, what do you think the obama administration is handling it and if you were president what would you do differently? >> we've got to whole series of issues, but overall, the reality is for america to be able to preserve our interests and encourage freedom around the world we have to be strong. we have to stand by our friends. we have to show a commitment to a strong military. this president is shrinking from our military commitments. at the same time we have to promote our values around the world the president was silent
6:08 pm
when there were dissident voices in the streets of iran. he should have been aggressively supporting those voices. arab spring now turning into arab winter he has been asleep at the switch. he has been ineffective to promote democracy and freedom in parts of the world that is critical to the stability of the world. so this president has really failed almost on every dimension of foreign policy, this had the pt has waned america's strength. >> bill: it's a biger issue every day, almost as big as the economy. by the way, when i did see you in nevada your wife wasn't able for for six weeks. did you give her a day off? >> she has ms and she needs recovery and i said take some time off this week. go out and ride horses. she said, mit, i want to go to

michigan. she is going campaign across the state even as i bounce around the nation raising money and preparing for states that come up down the road. >> sean: governor, thanks so much for being with us. we'll see you on the campaign trail. >> thanks, sean, good to be with you. >> we have witnessed how badly the obama administration can botch social issues to national security matters. a rare appearance, great one, mark levin is here to explain which g.o.p. candidate is best sued to clean up obama's mess. and later the controversial contra september active mandated is caused a rift on the left. some of the president's closest aides are not happy about it. that and much more coming up straight ahead. ♪
