contraception. not smart. >> this contraception thing, my gosh, it is such inexpensive. back in my days they used bayer aspirin. the gals put it between their knees and it wasn't that costly. >> excuse me. i'm just trying to catch my breath from that. >> he told a bad off color joke and shouldn't have done it but that is his business. it certainly doesn't in my opinion reflect on the campaign or me because he wasn't doing it it as part of our campaign. >> bill: now, senator santorum is correct, he doesn't have any power in his campaign but that is not going to stop msnbc and other left wing media from hammering santorum. everybody knows the majority wants to reelect barack obama. why are the republican candidates and supporters giving the opposition machine guns? talking about private behavior of americans is a no win

a fanatical guy as a member of the inquietsityion. uninformed voters could do him damage. that is the memo. reaction, joining us from los angeles, fox news contributor leslie marshall and radio talk show host jeanine turner. where am i wrong here? >> i don't think you are going wrong. i agree with you. this is a very difficult situation for santorum. he is a principle conservative and stands by his convictions and i believe he is a comepassion ate man but it is getting lost in the translation. i bristle when i hear this type of thing. >> bill: why do you bristle when you hear this type of thing? all rick santorum is saying that that he himself doesn't believe in birth control doesn't practice it apparently and that he believes that the til and the emphasis on do your -- the pill and the emphasis on do your own thing

led to a variety of social problems. why does that make you a conservative woman bristle? >> because i am a conservative woman. there are lot of people that don't live in traditional families. whether you are conservative or liberal and when says things like this it alienates a lot of people instead of coalescing them. >> bill: you feel like santorum comes off as judgmental when speaks about this. >> i think he does. i don't think he is but i think he does come up a as judgmental. if he could temper that and speak the truth it would be better for him. >> bill: leslie, as a flaming liberal woman, of course, you object to everything rick santorum said from the time he has been alive. he is speaking from the heart and his constituency, many people believe the way that he does. but in this day and age, santorum is not going to get a fair shot and everybody knows it, right?

>> well, it is not about a fair shot, bill. i mean life isn't fair and certainly politics and if you are running for president, left or right that is how it is. it is very transparent and he has to say what he believes. i commend anybody for saying what they believe. but if you -- there is a difference between hey, look, i'm a catholic, this is what my wife and i practice, we home school and choose that she doesn't work dot, dot, dot. and then the perception which i think people left and right are getting which is whoa, you are trying to push your lifestyle and your religion and being judgmental that is how he is coming off. that does hurt him. >> bill: he didn't come across to me -- >> you are guy. >> bill: and that is a legitimate point. i see things a little differently than obviously you guys do. but let me just state my case here. santorum doesn't seem to me to be a zealot. i have known the guy for many years. he doesn't go around trying to convert you to catholicism or

tell you the bible says one thing and you should do it. i never h heard him do that. he is caught in a situation where there is a legitimate issue freedom of religion surrounding a contraception ruling by the obama administration dealing with insurance. now, what happened is the charlie rose's on cbs and some of the other interviewers have taken this and the guy that he went on msnbc which is insane. the more i think about putting a guy like that on msnbc we didn't you just take off all your clothes, run around naked, all right, and get arrested by the police. that would do just about as much harm as going on msnbc. but i don't see him as a roller, leslie 86 think you are being unfair there. i don't think santorum is a holy roller. >> i think honestly and i have many catholic friends but i'm not catholic and my mom used to be. a lot of people that i know that are catholic and a lot of

people in every religion seem to have the cafeteria style religion. they pick and choose what they like. i know many catholics within their marriage use birth control. >> bill: he is not putting his faith above any others. it is interesting because your point of view is usually traditional on this broadcast. here do you say that all politicians should avoid all of these issues because some are social issues. santorum is saying listen, the sexual liberation movement has led to a lot more abortions, dead fetuses. that is true. should they avoid all of this stuff? >> no, and i appreciate that he sticks by his convictions and what he say is who he is and i think he is great on the economy and so many other areas. i would like for him to not narrow his audience. i would like for him to be able to not come off in this type of way. >> bill: can any politician address these issues without being demonized?

>> bill: back of the file seth tonight. as you may know the daily collar website doing an investigation into the far left propaganda outfit media matters. incredibly the government is allowing media matters to operate as a not for profit organization and all donations to them are fully tax deductible. it is amazing. so, big name radical left outfits like the tides foundation, george sore rice open society, the barbra streisand fund are funnels millions into media matters. joining us fox news analyst len knee davis. a democrat. i don't understand this at all. tax free organizations are supposed to be nonpartisan. that is number one rule.

they are not supposed to be in business to advance any political party or cause. if this is so ridiculous, how could it happen? >> well, first of all, they are violating the law and i think that the law says you can't get involved in a partisan political campaign and endorse a particular candidate. but if they are not allowed to take a point of view or be idea logical then they ought to be -- >> out to, could have, should have. you have to tell me why it is happening. i don't want any theory. let me read you the law so you got it. >> read it carefully. >> bill: the organization may not be an action organization. media matters certainly is. may not attempt to influence legislation. media matters does it all the time. and may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates. they meet with white house officials. they meet to advance the democratic cause and so they

violate every one of these things. there is no doubt about it. and yet because it helps the barack obama presidency and advances the cause of democratic party, it gets tax exempt status. that is the truth. that is where we are. >> first of all, i don't agree with your interpretation of what they are doing. but if they are doing what you are saying and it violates -- >> bill: tell me where you disagree with me. you know media matters around what they do and put out. how can you possibly disagree with that? >> let me make my point. the law has to be applied equally. criticizes liberal media and criticizes liberal democrats. >> you have to -- >> did he meet with george w. bush 8 years? i don't think so. >> i don't know but i know that his point of view you could influence legislation. >> bill: could. >> i never heard you say we should deprive present of his

first of all, i have known david since the days where he defended bill clinton. there are things that david and his organization have been doing including posts about israel that have troubled me. so i don't agree with a lot of the direction of media matters and if david is involved i would say to david i strongly disagree with you. so that is where my friendship comes from, bill, during the bill clinton days. >> bill: you have to reeval wait. he is a nasty s.o.b. and wants to hurt people and you shouldn't be enabling him at any cost and we are going to demand -- >> we ought to, though, be even handed. there are people on the right that do the same thing that you have also criticized. >> bill: that is again trying to excuse bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior. >> not excuse. even handed. >> bill: this is a story about a tax ex. status that should not be allowed. are if you have evidence on another organization you bring it to me and ile do a separate seth.

man. he edited the harvard love view. mr. obama was raised primarily by his grandparents in hawaii and had few advantages as a child. he developed his intellect and you have to give him credit for that. number three, being intelligent and effective are two different things. i believe he does not understand macro economics and does not realize the danger he is putting the nation in by running up trillions of dollars of debt. i'm well aware that some of you disagree with me and you believe the president and his crazy spending is doing it on important to reinvent the economic system. i know millions of americans believe that. but the evidence that i have points to the fact that mr. obama simply does not believe that the massive debt is going to come back to buy the him and believe me, it will. the problem is he is not the only one who is going to get

teeth marks. we are all going to get them. harry truman was a very effective president because he had common sense. same thing with ronald reagan. not a brilliant thinker but good when it came to instituting things that worked. president obama's economic policies are simply not working. after dealing with mr. obama stewart turned his attention to mitt romney. >> because he is the guy you know is like considers himself next in line. the guy at the deli who is like but i'm number six. but you they don't like him. the voters. >> yes. >> and he is like because he wants to be a regular guy but he can't just be himself because he puts on jeans but you know he has hit suit pants underneath it. just the way -- and he is trying to be like i'm a regular guy. and he always has like he is in a bar like sure i used to hang out in this bar, give me one of

those malted hop drinks. >> bill: stewart is mostly, correct. mitt romney is not your average guy. raised as a strict mormon. did missionary work on behalf of the church. his family has a ton of money and he is not exactly a bootstrap story. the governor is a likeable guy. what is holding romney back is his failure to feel, to feel the conservative positions that he escaped spouses. therefore, some voters believe romney is not sincere, not authentic. i don't happen to believe that but it could be true. could be true. i don't know the governor that well. maybe he is a charlatan. in the end you have two men, barack obama and mitt romney who are both distant from the folks and that was stewart's analysis and he is right about that. plenty more ahead as the factor moves along this evening. the u.s. state department says it may be dangerous to go down to mexico on spring break.

now, fox business anchor lou dobbs. this is what i don't get. warm winter in the northeast and most other parts of the country. very warm. not a lot of home heating oil being used so you figure in america a lot of oil reserves going way, way, way up. we got a lot of oil. but no gas prices. >> supply he and demand thing. this year is not working and the reason is demand for gasoline is down. demand for heating oil is down. >> bill: even driving gasoline. >> o our demand is down but the supply must be up, right? >> if we were just in a domestic market but here goes globalization again. >> bill: let's stay in the united states. we have all of this oil brought in here in anticipation of the cold winter. >> that's right. >> bill: and but we don't use it so it is here. it is here. >> well, now, see this is where i have to take you out of here. and stay with me. >> bill: to the not here? >> but it got defined here and then where did it go?

>> it got exported. and by the way, these fuels are now our number one export. number one export. >> bill: so they brought the oil in here. >> refined it. >> bill: refined it and sent it out to where. >> jet fuel, primarily to asia, to china. primarily jet fuels, diesel and gasoline which normally would be in abun dance right now is being shipped overseas. >> bill: so the oil companies are making all their money now but still had to allot a certain amount of oil for the united states domestic use. hasn't been used. >> because demand fell. >> bill: right. >> and that oil, that -- and those derivatives fuels were exported. and that is what no one is talking about. >> bill: they figured out it wasn't going to be a cold winter. >> these oil companies are not as dumb as as the folks in washington. >> bill: i heard they told the refineries to stop refining. >> they told them to start refining. >> bill: that is not true?

>> absolutely not true. >> bill: they didn't slow the refining down. >> there are all sorts of myths. the fact is we are exporting and it is good news. >> bill: so they are exporting but why are the gas prices going up at the pump? >> because they are pushing the margins and it is that simple. >> bill: i don't understand that. what does that mean? >> what that means is they are managing to export fuel and what is left is going up in price. >> bill: why? >> because there is sufficient demand for what is left. >> bill: so by exporting the fuel to china and other countries they are not leaving enough here. >> correct. >> bill: so that -- >> and it is worse than just the gasoline, though. also home heating oil. 10% decline in demand for home heating oil because of the warm winter you mentioned. but again, these fuels are now being shipped exported overseas. >> bill: shouldn't the government then say to the oil companies you can't interfere with them? because it looks like we are getting hosed the american

worker. the american worker's pay check didn't go up 92%, dobbs. but the price of gasoline did. >> you don't have to tell me. >> bill: you are telling me the reason it went up is because the oil companies can make more money overseas so saying to the americans blank you, we are not going to give you the oil because we will make more over there. >> the same principle by which we are buying cheaper goods at wal-mart. we are now part of a world market, like it or not. the fact of the matter is we are competing with demand in china, in europe, and premarely in latin america. >> bill: no matter what we do and how much we conserve and how many cars get better mileage the prices will continue to go up because they are selling all the stuff over there. >> notice you haven't heard president obama crying about the higher prices. >> bill: not a word. >> because this fits into the green philosophy. >> bill: he wants people to get so fed up they go for the electric cars. >> they may get so fed up they show up in november. >> bill: i think you understand
