much. and right on the boarder of afghanistan, in neighboring pakistan, a drone suspected to be american has gone down. it happened, telling fox news they don't know what caused it to go down, whether it was shut down or suffered a mechanical failure. they are denying claims by the taliban that they shot it down. you may remember the u.s. lost a drone in iran not too long ago. it went down in december while flying a mission over afghanistan. and it was all over iranian state television, the u.s. demanded they return the drone, and instead they created pink toy version of it and sent it to president obama. also in the region, fox news confirming pakistan is demolishing the come bound where osama bin laden spent his final days in hiding. the special forces raided that come bound killing the former lead everybody. overnight they started tearing

>> two airport security workers off the job tonight after a security breach. a metal detector left unattended with as many as five people just strolling through security unscreened. this is video of that very area from when it first opened a while back. terminal b was closed for a few hours today and twelve flights even delayed when officials realized what had happened. they tracked down those five passengers and had to rescreen them. the transportation security administration is investigating on exactly why that detector had no staff working at the time. major military preperations underway in the persian gulf in the event with a conflict with iran. a new report revealing the pentagon is planning new hand and sea measures to stop any attempts by iran to close the

is the latest there? >> people are picking up the pieces after the string of violent thunderstorms and storms ripped through the east. they said winds there reached 130 miles an hour and the storm carved an 8 1/2 mile path, ripping up homes and businesses. some parts of the state saw more than two inches of rain. and just over state lines in north carolina, residents there feeling temperatures today more than 25 degrees cooler than yesterday. so with that shift came a system dropping a quarter-size inch hail, heavy rainfall. we saw tree limbs down, power lines down. at one point more than 2,000 people were without power. harris. >> i mentioned in our reporting just moments ago that one person has died. i think that happened in georgia. what about that area? >> you are right. a 73-year-old woman unfortunately died wednesday night when rome was hit a tornado. she died after heart attack shortly after the storm passed through. we know that particular storm

it was accidental. counting down to the next major contest in the republican race for the white house. voters cast ballots in michigan and arizona on tuesday and then on super tuesday, march 6th, people in ten dates go to the policy. but have you ever wondered why these contests are held on a particular day of the week? now there's a push to move them to the weekend but the federal government is saying not so fast. we are in the west coast newsroom with more. the big question, why on tuesday, why not saturday? why, why, why? >> well, harris, dust off your history books. we have a lesson for you. can you believe that this law goes all the way back to 1845? that is when congress decided that tuesdays would be the day that our federal elections would be held. mostly to accommodate the farmers because they had to load up in their horse and buggies, it took them to day to travel, a day for voting and day to travel

back and it wouldn't interfere with market or worship days so tuesday was the most lodgal. clearly a lot has changed since then so now a democratic congressman from new york plans on enter of introducing the weekend voting act, proposing federal elections be held on saturdays and sundays when most are off work. >> hopefully by making voting more convenient, we will have less apathetic voters that actually have faith in our system. i don't think it's going to be the silver bullet that makes voter turnout in the united states 80, 90, 100%, but it will surely go a long way from the 50% we've averaged for a long time >> but the g. a. o. did a study that said is wouldn't necessarily increase the turnout. changing the day would be costly and it would be difficult to find workers to staff polling places and some of the sights

like churches would no longer be available. >> you will confuse people if you make these changes and that is not trivial. if your goal is to increase participation, don't change the system. figure out how to bring more people into the system. >> critics of moving the election tell us that there have also been other failed attempts to try and boost voter turnout, like a lot of states people are able to vote by mail. also signing up people to vote when they get their driver's license, known as the motor voter program. and, harris, those attempts have not really succeeded in getting more people to the polls as well and this wouldn't either. >> you know what would be interesting is to get the candidates' take on this. there might be an argument for keeping it on a weekday like a tuesday because they get the whole weekend to try to get last minute votes when people have more time to think about the issues. >> you know, it's really interesting on that organization's website whytuesday organize. there's a video clip where they
