6:00 pm
tonight. i am bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us. the spin stops right here because we are definitely looking out for you. captions by closed captioning services >> sean: this is a fox news weather center. powerful storms have left a path of destruction in the state of indiana officials say at least 8 people are dead and we are just getting word from the kentucky governor that five people have died in that state as a result of this storm. and word is that the southern town of marysville, indiana has been completely decimated. now the sheriff from that town said, quote: it is completely gone. joining us now on the phone from henryville, indiana to tell us all about the extent of the damage sustained there and throughout the entire state our very own mike tobin. mike? >> hi, sean. it's remarkable with the intensity of funnel clouds the fact that you can approach one
6:01 pm
of these strike zones and not think that the damage is that bad. you see a lot of water and see a lot of emergency vehicles until you get right here to the bulls eye. a lot of damage. i'm looking at the damage to a building that had the roof torn off it appears to be a high school and one of the buildings adjacent. trees torn down. the file lage is largely gone because we are still winter. the trees are actually continue -- except for the trees that are standing. >> sean: i think we lost mike tobin as can you hear we are just telling new this report tonight that in fact an entire town we believe in indiana has, in fact, been decimated and as we have more word tonight we will continue to bring the very latest on the tornadoes and reports of damage and death as that toll continues to climb. and meanwhile tonight, we are only one day removed from the tragic death of our friend andrew breitbart. as his colleagues, friends and family all come together to
6:02 pm
remember his legacy, sadly there are those on the left who have refused to allow all of us the time to grieve and, instead, taken the internet and have attempted to smear the conservative new media pioneer. that includes left wing writer mike taibbi. with rolling stone magazine. hours after news of andrew's death he released a disgusting column that reads, quote: so andrew breitbart is dead. now here is what i have to say to that and i'm sure breitbart himself would have respected this reaction. good. blank him. i couldn't have been happier. is he dead. joining me now with reaction somebody who was very close to andrew columnist the one and only ann coulter. ann, i know you were very close to andrew. i knew andrew really well. i don't think, you know, i find this amazing this double standard that exists where if a conservative says anything about a liberal, hyper sensitivity, selective phony moral outrage. liberals will say this and
6:03 pm
they will get away with it. your reaction? >> yeah, no, i mean i was shocked. i didn't know rolling stone was still publishing. so that is new information for me and i'm sure video store clerks across america thought it was rip roaring hilarious since they are the only people read rolling stone magazine. the defense of these attacks has been when teddy kennedy died andrew breitbart called him something like a piece of human excrement. in andrew's defense he was a piece of human excrement. and, also, all you get for when someone has actually killed a girl oh, you know, the line -- "new york times" reporter wrote in his book that even mary jo kopecky probably would have appreciated what teddy kennedy appreciated in his lifetime. there is no negative press throughout the guy's life. i think a little push back not a push back but, in the alternative media what andrew
6:04 pm
breitbart said is not so shocking. with breitbart, it's not like he didn't have people denouncing him every second of every day. he used to retweet all of the vials that would be sent his way. >> sean: you used to be friends with bill maher. i don't know if you are. he is still on hbo. i have defended his right to say every ignorant stupid hateful mean thing he has said over the years. [ laughter ] >> sean: i have. he has every right to say it? >> i know you have. as we learn with media matters that there is this well-funded campaign to monitor conservatives. you have been a victim of this in a number of times in your career to shut them down, to attack advertisers to silence them to shut them up. they don't want to hear their voices. when bill maher says, this again, selective moral outrage. use the c word referring to sarah palin and this. >> new rule, now that hosni mubarak has released logan he must put her hotness on a plane back to the united
6:05 pm
states immediately. next change we will send elisabeth hasselbeck. >> recently the t-people who wag the dog there in the republic party. they finally see somebody they like. i mean, newt gingrich, i'm sorry, but he does mirror who they are. mean, snarling, border line racist. jon huntsman can suck my [bleep]. >> sarah palin was watching said if only he was black i would [bleep] >> andrew dice clay for years he he has been called that massage nist hydro phobic. he just gave $8 million to obama's super pac. should veto return the money? let me phrase the question better. should obama request that the super pac return the money? >> well, i don't think obama
6:06 pm
will be returning a penny because he he is going to need every single cent in running against mitt romney. yes, i am still friends with bill maher, despite that i hate when you run these clips because i think he says this crazy stuff just to get your enormous audience to find out that he is still on air. >> sean: maybe, maybe not. the difference is, you know, when sarah palin was attacked i didn't hear any democrats in congress asking, you know, for a resolution on the house floor off i don't know that president obama called sarah palin and expressed such outrage over these things. >> are we segwaying into the birth control activist? i love that story. >> sean: segway into a double standard that exists and phony outrage by liberals. that's what bothers me here. you know what? if they want to have free speech and say what they say, let conservatives have the same thing. >> no. you are right about that. i must say it's like andrew
6:07 pm
breitbart's last trick because he loved ginning up liberals. he loved this jits i didn't fujitsu with them as do i. he got them to say the most shocking thing people who follow him on twitter had to turn off the retweet function you would open up your twitter page and it would be filled with vial. i don't need that vial coming at me on my web page. he loved it. even in death. he shows liberals in their true colors. >> sean: thanks ann coulter for being with us. joining us now democratic strategist julie row row -- >> i don't think it's a double standard. ann coulter has a right and same with breitbart. >> sean: and bill maher. >> all of them. >> sean: liberals can write that they are glad that
6:08 pm
breitbart is dead and that doesn't offend you? that's okay. >> i think it's ridiculous to say anybody is dead. i feel horrible for his family. he has the right to say it the same way andrew breitbart could have said that ted kennedy is a mfer or anything he said after his death. >> sean: organizations funded by george soros monitoring and taping. right now the show something taped hoping that sean hannity or one of his guest says something outrageous and they can publish it and attack our advertisers. why does the left do that when they don't ever criticize their own? why do they act all outraged only when a conservative speaks? >> that's the left. right does the same thing to the left wing media. >> sean: give me an example of a campaign. >> news busters got after me for saying stuff on your show they don't agree with. >> sean: have they ever gone after people and started boycotts campaigns? >> i have no idea what news busters does. media matters first amendment right to go after you when you
6:09 pm
say something they don't agree with their right to use your huge audience and venue to go after me or any liberal you don't agree with. >> sean: i don't know any conservative and you can't name one that's hiring private investors, that's organizing with the white house and collaborating with them and attempting to get advertisers to pull out of shows in an attempt to silent voices. you can name a conservative equivalent. >> i don't follow conservative media so i don't. >> sean: i can tell you i can't name one and i know conservatives. >> sean, let me say this, you have probably the largest audience of anybody in cable television. you have the right to say whatever you want. you have -- >> sean: no, i don't. >> why don't you? >> sean: i'm telling threw is an infrastructure well-funded by the left. >> you are on the number one cable network. >> sean: that's right. we are. >> in the country. what are you talking about? you have the most free speech of anybody. ann coulter has said things that are so incredibly offensive but i just -- >> sean: bill maher said about a democratic woman, what he said about sarah palin i would not be on the air today and
6:10 pm
you, as a liberal, should acknowledge that exists this environment exists. >> ann coulter on the air today. on the air a lot. she has called people offensive names that are horrific, i can't use them here because fcc would fine your show. >> sean: cable. >> quoting her. she has said jews need to be perfected that is incredibly insensitive to the jewish religion. she has a right to say it and i defend your right to put it on your show. >> sean: if you are looking at hosts of programs called laura ingraham a shut. look at the case of bill maher, these are hosts on networks that say things and the media that goes after me and tries to go after other conservatives, they are quiet. the democrats in congress are quiet. >> you are the media you just went after bill maher. what's the difference? >> sean: big difference is i don't want to silence him. i defend his stupid right to say everything he says. liberal groups do. they are going around in a
6:11 pm
circle here. >> i'm a liberal. rush limbaugh called somebody a slut yesterday. god bless he thinks somebody a slut he has a right to say it. it's first amendment right? >> sean: thank you for being with us. >> thank you. >> sean: as competitive primary carries on. conservatives about the republic base uniting between one g.o.p. candidate. patrick j. buchanan if the g.o.p. should be worried. michelle malkin. contraception controversy. busy friday night.

republican party will ultimately unite in november. even worse, some conservatives seem to be ready to surround the white house. george will writes that conservatives should start thinking about turning their energies to a goal more attainable than, quote, electing romney or santorum president. it is the goal of retaining control of the house and winning control of the senate. george will and others may be getting ahead of themselves. because if you remember in 2004, there was perhaps no bigger critic of george w. bush than patrick j. buchanan. but a few short days before the voters went to the poll, patrick j. buchanan wrote that, quote, no matter the quarrels inside the namly, when the shooting starts, you come home to your hone. will the g.o.p. voters put aside their criticisms of the nominee as but cabban did in 200 -- as buchanan did in 2004 now, out of

exile, patrick j. buchanan, welcome for duty. >> thank you. good to talk to you, sean. >> sean: it's interesting. you are right. i don't see this as a remote threat. and i know a lot is being said and a lot of damage is being done. i don't see it. i think that people will unite because obama's record is so atrocious. your thoughts? >> george will had his pundit's license suspended. when you go for the presidency of the united states, that's the way to win the house and the senate. they are all up for grabs. if obama wins the white house, he could hold on to the senate and take a lot of seats in the house. but the house, the senate, the presidency and the supreme court are at stake. we have four supreme court justice, scalia, roberts, and thomas and four liberals. that's at stake in this next election! everything is there. there is no reason to panic. >> sean: i don't know. look, he's a well-respected
6:17 pm
writer. i have enjoyed watching his commentary over the years. i know you probably have. but we are looking at a weak incumbent. he was found 43%, averaging around 44%. if you look at his approval, right track/wrong track, if you look at the approval on the signature legislation, health care, you know, these are not the numbers of a very strong incumbent. they are the numbers of a weak incumbent. >> sean, you know, a couple of months ago, obamma was so low in the poll, even the keenians was saying he was born in the united states -- >> sean: you come on this network, looking for trouble. just right out of the box. but go ahead. >> that's a joke. today! the gallup poll has mitt romney at 50-46 over obama. it has santorum running about dead even. why in heaven's name would you write this off? this happened, sean, after 20 debates and all of these rough
6:18 pm
super pac attack ads and all the rest of it, and the republicans are up against obama now. i mean, reagan at times was down 20 points with carter. a lot of folks were saying he has to put gerald ford on the ticket, if you recall. i think there is no reason to write this off. >> sean: we don't even know what will define this election because events could change tomorrow. if israel, for example, attacks iran, who knows how big national security will be, as a defining issue in the campaign. and you are right about reagan. he didn't take off until september of 1980 when he won. all right. let me ask you this about the left. we were talking about andrew breitbart, the vile, vicious, horrific comments, the comments that the president has made about the republicans and kids with autism, downs syndrome, et cetera and the poor. all of these other -- selected moral outrage, everywhere. democrats can say anything about sarah palin, george bush, get awiwith it. if a conservative says
6:19 pm
something, deemed over the top. that's outrageous. this is going to be the campaign. will that be successful for obama? does he get to hide from his record, in other words? >> that depends on the republicans. the republicans have to make obama and his record the issue in this election. do you think what he's done merits re-election and four more years? the second issue i mentioned is the supreme court. a third issue, sean, is this -- this country is in political deadlock. nothing happened in 2011. nothing's going to happen in 2012. you put barack obama back in that white house and then we have four more years of deadlock, $5 trillion more in national debt and they are headed down the road of greece special italy. i genuinely believe we need to have a conservative president, a conservative congress and they have to work together, that's the only way you are going to get this federal deficit under control and get this debt under control. >> sean: paul ryan said, we have 2 to 3 years before the -- the
6:20 pm
bond markets abandon us. now, that's a short -- that's a very short window. and i think you are right. the warnings about greece and italy and spain and portugal and the euro -- it's all coming our way if we don't do something about it. i think it's a three-step process, fire obama, get a republican that governs conservatively. step 2, a conservative congress. house and senate. and step 3, the american people can't walk away and say i voted, i'm done. they have to keep their foot on the gas. they have to hold these guys accountable and that means that they have to really deal with the tough issue, the third rail of politics, social security and medicare. will they do it? >> that's the key question. i think if the republicans do it, if you had a president romney and a conservative senate and house and they really did the carving and the cutting and the controlling of spending, that's going to involve a lot of pain. it could be a very tough election for the republicans in 2014. hopefully, you would be out of the woods and got this done by
6:21 pm
the time the presidential election of 2016 came around. but you are right, sean. listen, we ought not minimize the courage and the toughness and the character that are going to be needed, if you are going to take a federal budget, which is about 24-25% of gdp and bring it back to 20% of gdp or 19% of gdp. that's a tremendous amount of money. but if it's not done, again, i don't see how you get off this road we are on, where you see greece and italy and spain ahead of us. >> sean: what about the way andrew breitbart's treated by the left? why does the left get away with this selective moral outrage isn't horrific things said? why does bill haher get to use this vile language about sarah palin? no phone calls from the president. what do you make of that double standard? >> well, the left controls the culture. it is dominant in culture. the folk who is started in the 1960s and grew up and now in
6:22 pm
television, entertainment, hollywood, you name it. the media. they are predominant, except for fox news and some other outlets, they are predominant. you look at how michaelmore -- michael moore is treated the way andrew breitbart was treated. andrew breitbart -- i didn't know him. he had a lot of grit, guts perseverance, did a lot of good and pointed out a lot of truths about institutions like a.c.o.r.n. and he deserves better than what he's getting. >> sean: welcome out of exile, sir. priesht you being here. coming up, president obama is stretching to make the case for four more years in office, comparing himself to some of the most influential figures of world history. we will check in. and larry the cable guy will put a smile on your face, straight ahead. ok! who gets occasional constipation,

6:28 pm
>> sean: oops. joining me with reaction, the author of "culture of corruption" michelle malkin is back. mandela? gandhi? >> the audacity of obama. is there a successful world leader he hasn't compared him to in the last 3 years? last year, the trend was comparing himself to ronald reagan, the gall! the audacity. and i think that that first tape was very useful, to see him moaning and groaning about how hard change is and he said he would never be a perfect president. well, that, i agree with him -- on that. however, i recall during the entire campaign, obama and his surigates, promising the moon, unicorns and rainbow, world peace, racial harmony. do you remember -- >> sean: the oceans. >> do you remember one of his big promoters -- >> sean: heal the planet. >> of course.
6:29 pm
all the rank-and-file... supporters of barack obama believes that they were going to get their gas paid for and their mortgages and have a college education. [chuckles] >> and, look, yes, change is hard. but you know what is going to be harder? turning back all of this radical, progressive transformative wrecking ball that we have been all suffering under the last 3 years am. >> sean: let me ask you in terms of the narrative. you knew andrew breitbart well. you see what the left is writing about him and saying about him. you see there is a certain mean-spiritedness. it is beyond class warfare, all the things that i highlight. you can see, for example, they try to -- they only get outraged over things that benefit them politically. not things that bill maher, million dollars to a super pac has said, as i pointed out, some of the most offensive things.
6:30 pm
how far will they go? and how far does the mep media go along with them and how successful will they be at it? >> it is no coincidence that by any means necessary is the way that the far left has always fought. i have been in this business for more than 20 years. and andrew breitbart was one of a kind. although he is gone and i said this after we got the terrible news, his legacy is built to last. online. he has inspired a generation of young activists and citizen journalists out there. i think, one of his most powerful legacy, of course, has been fearlessly fighting back against the poisonous, leftist means. primarily among them, the thrust of the left to try to delegitimize and criminalize conservative dissent and
6:31 pm
ideology, painting us as racist and sexist, as the most hate filled on the planet. when all we need to do -- and i have been doing this as long as i have been in public life -- is hold up a mirror to the very intolerant -- >> sean: let me ask you this i. strain of the left. >> sean: we hit this in the opening block of the show tonight. the president now is out there, you know, lecturing everybody on language. the left is attacking, viciously, andrew breitbart. but yet, the president's pac took $1 mill yen from bill maher. i want to get your thoughts. should the president ask his pac to return this mony? roll the tape. >> new rule: now that hosni mubarak has released laura logan, he must put her intrepid hotness on a plane back to the united states immediately n. exchange, we will send elizabeth hasselbeck.
