d help stop further joint damage with humira. the fox news alert. and scenes of the of utter devastation playing out across the u.s. after a massive outbreak of deadly tornadoes reshapes the landscape of america's south and midwest. hello i'm rick fulbaum. >> i'm marcei'm arthel neville. >> devastating twisters wiped whole towns in the midwest.
3:01 pm
>> marina molina in the extreme weather center. mike tobin in henryville, indiana. check in with mike tobin, first. >> rick, everywhere is a profound scene of destruction. this house the roof the house was blown off. the location is right across the street from the henryville high school where students were sheltering in place. the local emergency authorities say this is proof that the air early warning system worked because of all of the people sheltering in the high school only one person was killed. i want to show you amateur video out of pe pekin indiana where you can see the funnel cloud forming in the sky and reaching its fury and reaching down toward the earth and cutting its path of destruction. we now know from the national weather service debris was pulled some 5,000 feet in the
3:02 pm
air before it was deposited. we also know as the tornado was working its way along the ground four people on that particular scene were are killed. marysville indiana. wiped out an entire town. back out here live you can see the power crews restoring power engaged in what is now the primary activity. there are no more people unaccounted for so the primary activities are cleanup and restoration of the infrastructure. back to you guys in new york. >> tough to look at those pictures. mike tobin, thank you so much. >> and strong storms taking their toll on tennessee as well. families there searching for what little they can salvage. sad scene like the one we are showing you now playing out in neighborhoods across the state after a reported tornado touched down in nine counties.
3:03 pm
we go to jonathan who is live in hard hit delano, tennessee. what can you tell us? >> there used to be a house sitting right here where you see the remaps of a wooden porch. what used to be the house is now scattered debris in the family's backyard. there were five people inside the house at the time. they all survived although four went to the hospital with varying injuries. take a glance at this home over here. a manufactured house where mitchell dykess. it had been tied down with anchor straps. he saw the tornado coming and grabbed it -- >> that was johnathan serrie there in delano tennessee. we will get back to him late. our hearts go out to everybody dealing with this destruction. and we have brand new information just coming our way
3:04 pm
from the national weather center. more.lina withmaria mow low >> the tornado watch in georgia has now allowed to expire. we are thinking that severe weather or the risk of severe weather is greatly diminishing here. the storm is losing its punch and the sun starting to set to we lose the day time energy or heat that we get from the sun to fire up the storm systems. still a strong line of storms into southeastern georgia and around the florida panhandle. still expecting h heavy rains from the storms. something that we are seeing with them is actually flooding. no current tornado warnings in effect or severe thunderstorm warnings. stay alert across the area because you have the slight chance that some of the thunderstorms could become strong enough to produce large
3:05 pm
hail or damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado cannot still be ruled out although the tornado watch has again allowed to be expired. we do have a number of flood advisories across parts of the florida panhandle into southern parts of georgia. we did have a flash flood warning across southern parts of georgia that has also been allowed to expire. talking about generally speaking 3 to 5-inches of rain. locally higher amounts and that is another big concern with weather events because flooding is a big concern as far as deaths that occur on a yearly basis as far as the weather. of course, something else to take seriously. do not drive-thru flooded roadways and stay alert throughout. of course, a lot of debris so any one that lives in an area hit hard by a tornado be careful and try not to go out in the debris field because you could have other dangers lurking throughout. guys? >> marina, thanks. >> we will go back to jonathan
3:06 pm
serrie. before we lost your signal you were temperaturing us about behind you once stood a house yesterday or hours ago. a house, the five family members inside survived thank god for that. i want people to understand as they are listening to your report that those people's lives are profoundly changed and i want people to keep that in mind. take it away, jonathan. >> they are, indeed. four of the family members were hospitalized. injuries ranging from minor are to serious. i also want to tell you about the neighbors. a house where mitchell dykes lives. he saw the tornado coming, grabbed the cat and ran inside to an interior bathroom. a portion of the house was picked up several feet before it slammed down. the house is tied down with anchor straps which may have prevented more serious damage. we spoke with mitchell today and he says that he is amazed that there wasn't more damage
3:07 pm
to his house but his neighbors weren't as fortunate. listen. >> as you can see, you know, it looks like a bomb went off over here and a bomb went off over here and i got picked up and kind of threw over there. i don't know, man. i'm still in shock big time but i'm okay. my cat is okay. so, you know, he don't know, we'll just move on, man, that's all you can do. >> now, we want to show you video from another community outside of chattanooga. the hair arer harrison communi. a big problem there downed trees. for awhile some residents were trapped inside homes. today crews went out with chainsaws cutting down the trees and clearing the roads. we heard a story of one woman who took cover under her stairway. her house was competely destroyed but she amazingly survived with only a scratch on her arm. we are hearing plenty of stores
3:08 pm
like that. people fortunate to be alive and today many of those people including those who lived in this house coming back to inspect the damage and pick up the pieces and arthel as you pointed out, many of these people their lives will never be the same. mitchell the gentleman that we spoke to his house was insured but his two next door neighbors were not and mitchell says that they will likely be looking for help from others in this very tight knit community. >> and, of course, you know, jonathan when we see the stories and pictures, people do come together to reach out and lend a much needed helping hand. thank you very much. speaking of pictures we want you to send your pictures to us and video of the tornadoes. we are getting dramatic images as you can imagine from the storms including this one here. a destroyed fire department of all things. a building there in ohio. and this image of a huge ball of hail. i'm not sure if i'm saying that right, in indiana.
3:09 pm
e-mail us won't you at ureport @ fox news .com. give us your name and location and a brief description of what we are looking at. we will get those on the television, of course. but your safety is priority when getting the videos and pictures. >> more on the storms in a bit. now, to politics and super tuesday which is just three days away. up for grabs, more than 400 delegates spread across ten different states. one of the biggest prizes for republicans is, of course, ohio. a major battleground in the general election. chief political correspondent carl cameron is live in cincinnati today with more. hi, carl. >> rick, it is a very important state in primaries, too, because of its significance in the general election but also because in both democratic and the republican parties it is a bellwether and indication of where the hearts and minds are of ohio wans and in fact the whole country and that is what
3:10 pm
makes it interesting. rick santorum has been going after mitt romney suggesting that on a whole host of issues he simply isn't a reliable conservative. h his record santorum argues proves that. mitt romney said well, i changed in many ways. when i was governor of massachusetts i grew and became much more conservative and you have to look at what i have done in the time since he was governor of massachusetts. and the way in which his policies have evolved. listen to the exchange with mr. santorum really questioning whether or not mitt romney can be believed. >> i think there is no question whether it is healthcare, whether it is cap and trade, whether it is bailouts, whether it is just the roll of government in your life governor romney has a very, very bad track record of being for government type solutions. >> now, romney counters that santorum very much has a similar record. that when was in the u.s. senate he south ear marks and brought home a lot of federal
3:11 pm
money, a lot of pork to pennsylvania and sort of a big government proconservative prounion rather type of republican. romney argues that in time all that, too, will come out. listen. >> i wasn't looking for ear marks. i was looking for money. every governor and every institution frankly goes to washington and talks with their needs and tries to encourage congress to appropriate funds in the normal process and that is how the system works. it is up to the government, it is up to the congress and the president to decide what the priorities are and to balance the budget. >> that was romney responding to criticism from santorum video appeared inual you 2002 when romney was running for governor he told a trade group he would use his associations there to make sure that all the federal money would come back to massachusetts. he has been dealing with problems from his past and rick santorum is taking advantage of
3:12 pm
every one of them. there are 66 delegates availal here in ohio. rick santorum was unable to qualify for some of and of the 66 overall he is ineligible to collect 18 of them. literally almost a third. that gives mitt romney the opportunity to collect the most delegates even if santorum were for beat him in ohio in the popular vote. over 400 delegates available on super tuesday. this state, the buckeye state of ohio is the one where most eyes will be focused. rick? >> carl cameron in cincinnati. carl, thanks so much. right now, washington state holding its republican caucuses. result there's could be trickling in any minute now. the early buzz is focusing on ron paul who may get his first win of the political season. for the latest on the race bret baier anchor of special report
3:13 pm
joins us now. if ron paul does pull up the win of sorts it is really mainly about bragging rights because it is a nonbinding straw poll so it is momentum leading into super tuesday. >> sure. eventually it does lead to delegates. 43 delegates on the line in washington state. we should be getting results from the smaller counties and throughout the evening we will get more of the results and should know the washington state gop is optimistic that they can have a winner declared by 9:00 p.m. eastern definitely before 10:00 p.m. eastern when we have a special roundup. be anecdoteally they had a lot of turnout in the different precincts across the state of washington. in benton county it was so packed in the three he rivers convention center they had to turn away 1500 people and you can imagine folks were very upset about that. mitt romney has good organization on the ground. ron paul does. and santorum has been out there
3:14 pm
cam paping but the only candidate out there tonight with a results watching party, congressman ron paul who is going to be out there and we are going to talk to him later tonight on the 10:00 p.m. show. >> we will be looking forward to that for sure, bret. of course, romney is seen more of a moderate and ron paul more of the conservative. how do you think that is playing out there in the state of washington? >> well, you know, mitt romney has been trying to shore up his conservative credentials all throughout this process. congressman paul came in a strong third in 2008. in fact, just behind mike huckabee with 22% roughly ron paul took in. huckabee 23%. john mccain 25% of the vote four years ago. so people in washington state know ron paul. he has got some organization. and this could be his first win. his deal is delegate hunting. and these caucus states usually line up for him. he needs a win on the board. he hasn't had a w.
3:15 pm
this could be it. >> 43 delegates up for grabs there but they won't be assigned immediately, correct? >> right. that is the definition of the nonbinding because they have to go through the process where they have a district convention and the state -- a county convention and then a state and eventually elect the folks that go to the national convention. incidentally ron paul is banking on all of the caucus states that his people are the diehards to want to go to all the different meetings along the way and they will be the ones that stick with him until the end. >> and we will be watching. we will be watching you tonight. bret will have a special edition of special report bringing you full results of the washington caucuses tonight at 10:00 p.m. eastern right here on the fox news channel. we are just getting word within the last half hour or so that rush limbaugh is now apologizing for calling a female georgetown law school student a "shut and prostitute"

marie colvin handed over by syria. her remains now being returned to her mother in the united states. and as rick just mentioned, several county results now, in in today's washington state caucuses. dan springer is there live from seattle. so, dan, what do we know so far? >> well, arthel we just got handed the first batch of results from 15 of the 39 counties. these are the smallest counties. most in eastern, washington. the early results are good news for mitt romney. ron paul and also rick santorum. 31.5% of the vote went to romney out of these 15 counties. paul in second at 26.9. and santorum is closely behind paul at third place at 24.38%. so you have a pretty closely contested three person race so far. again, the eastern counties in the state of washington smaller
3:35 pm
counties. that is really good news for ron paul. he has put in a lot of effort here. he is the only candidate still in the state of washington. he showed up at a caucus earlier today. we were there. we saw him. he was treated like a rock star as he went through the crowd getting pictures with people and then maybing his last appeal to voters to vote for him. he has not had a win yet and he desperately wants a victory and whatever delegates he can get from washington state. he is ron paul. >> i take my oath of office seriously. i believe you you take the oath of office you shouldn't vote for anything that is not permitted by the constitution. >> and newt gingrich is also in the state of washington. he was here once. he is trailing all the other candidates. he is at 12%. this is early. and we are expecting the results to be trickling in over the next couple of hours and hopefully later on tonight we will have the winner of this nonbinding straw poll. arthel? >> still early. still tight.
3:36 pm
what is up for grabs tonight. >> 43 delegates from the state of washington. none will be awarded tonight. a nonbinding straw poll. the real value here is momentum. the last contest before super tuesday a few days away. any one who wins this will claim that they have won another vote. if it is ron paul it will be his first. he spent a lot of time in this state so he is hoping for good results. we had a poll done about two weeks ago and that poll showed rick santorum with a sizeable 11-point lead over mitt romney and gingrich and paul were third and fourth. but in the last couple of weeks that has completely flip flopped and we have had a big surge from mitt romney in the state. he now leads according to that poll by 5% head into today's vote. santorum has come back and romney has gone up and looks like ron paul as a very strong state here in the state of washington is paying off. he clearly spent the most time. organized here four years ago.
3:37 pm
a big grass roots effort here and lots of volunteers going out door to door and making phone calls. rick santorum did come back to the rest of the pack and now trailing the other two in the early results. arthel? >> exciting to say the least. dan springer is there live in seattle where 15 caucuses reporting in the state of washington so far. thanks, dan. >> okay. >> the newt gingrich campaign hoping for a big win in his home state of georgia on super tuesday. also where he served as congressman and was speak are of the house while representing that state. real clear politics showing gingrich with a 16-point lead over mitt romney and a 12-point lead over rick santorum. joining us is bob mccune, head of the ohio leadership team for the gingrich campaign. good to talk with you, sir. thanks for are being with us. >> thank you. my pleasure. >> before we talk about ohio and georgia we just h heard from dan springer reporting
3:38 pm
from washington state. no where in dan's report was the name gingrich. has he sort of become part of another conversation? i'm just wondering why aren't we hearing more buzz about the gingrich campaign these days? >> well, he mentioned that he was 8 or 10 points behind percentage wise just at the beginning in washington. that is just a matter. the fact is on tuesday the largest state to commit delegates will be georgia. he will carry that overwhelmingly. the other states are proportional. he will get a significant percentage of those. of the 2300 delegates that will meet in tampa, less than 300 have been assign sod far. there is much to go. 32 more states and territory. we have no doubt that he will continue to make a significantly strong showing especially for those that are concerned about the economy and those that are concerned about energy. >> what about ohio? because today, sir,, two of your state's biggest newspapers the cleveland plain dealer and the cincinnati inquirer both
3:39 pm
endorsing mitt romney today. why didn't they endorse newt gingrich and how well is he going to do in ohio? >> he is going to do very well. there is a spread between the top three as we have seen. and there is no question that there is a group that is behind one candidate, the establishment candidate and that there are those that have other concerns about why should this nation that can and should be energy independent be going and bowing down to saudi princes when they could have a leader that could make us to be independent number one. number two is that in our lifetime since calvin coolidge left the it has never happened that any one has been able to balance the budget. when newt was speaker he negotiated the only five year agreement that after one year they he would balance the budget for four consecutive years and pay off debt. america's debt is as large as our total gdp. never happened in history.
3:40 pm
if behad continued on the same path as when newt was is in control instead of being 100% of gdp, the debt would be 15% of gdp. >> you are true believer, i hear you. why hasn't that message been getting out there and why hasn't rick santorum been able to rise to the number one or number two spot and become the nonromney candidate and stay there when newt gingrich h held that position a little bit but is now sort of by the wayside? >> the fact is these are very good people. the capacity of of the republican candidates versus what is happening in washington is night and day. the question is who do people best identify with for particular concerns whether is be social concerns, establishment concerns or economy and energy production as with newt. we are going to see as the american people focus on particular issues that particular state tends to respond in a certain way and i think that what we are going to see is those that are concerned about our future for those that see that america is at the
3:41 pm
threshold just let me remind you of this, they just announced that greece now has 120% of gdp debt. we will blow past that before obama leaves office. >> there are a lot of folks and i only have one time for are this question. they are not big fans of mitt romney but feel like as long as newt gingrich and rick santorum are both in the race sort of splitting a lot of votes that mitt romney is going to have a clear path to the nomination. is that a concern of yours and is it a concern of newt gingrich's to the point where maybe he would consider dropping out of the race to prevent mitt romney from winning the gop nomination? >> whenever you are a candidate you would appreciate your oh poynants to no longer be in the race because it does create different dynamics in different states no doubt about that. across the spectrum if a person prepared for this moment on defense, for foreign policy and domestic policy i think they will continue to see newt's strong showing and a month ago
3:42 pm
it seemed like a world away. a month from now we will see significantly changes and you will see that the background and experience of the speaker will come through. >> we'll have you back on and we will talk about that and see what the story line is a month from now. always good to talk to you, sir. former u.s. congressman from the state of ohio. thanks again. >> you have heard the saying they say money can't buy you love. it looks like it can't buy an election either. mitt romney probably has the biggest team on the campaign trail but nearly lost his home state. why the race to the white house is proving once again, that money is not everything. already. susan estrich is a fox news contributor. in one of your columns you speculate maybe he is too rich and has too much personal wealth for the campaign season. explain. >> this is a tough time for most americans. while it is true that most people who run for president are part of that 1%, i think this year it is especially vulnerable because of the hard time people are coming through and you know, rick, the most important question on a poll is does this guy or girl understand the problems of people like us. and these mistakes romney keeps making, you know, h his wife drives two cadillacs, he knows the nascar owners, i think introduced a lot of doubt that this guy really understands of the problems of working americans. >> who of us doesn't aspire to that kind of success in our
